Lara, Glad your trip up here was fun, even if it was hot. Today is much better, temps in the high 80's. Too bad I couldn't make to Summerfest though, I would have liked to see either Aerosmith or last nite, Neil Diamond. Apple those lillies sound beautiful. Carberry, choc whip vodka sounds good. Congrats on finishing Herceptin. Michelle the pic is beautiful. Everyone, much love

Hi to everyone.  We're in Pine Hollow Resort near the small town of Park Rapids, MN.  The "resort" is located on one of MN's many lakes.  Every little business with rv sites and cabins calls itself a resort.  This place is attractive and well-kept but not fancy by any means.  During the week we have the whole resort to ourselves.  Everybody including the owners goes back to their jobs.  We have free use of a canoe and some kayaks.  Haven't tried kayaking yet, but we will now that there's nobody to see us!  We bicycled part of the Heartland bike trail yesterday and will bike more of it by transporting the bikes to various parking lots along the trail.

Cooking has been very simple.  Tonight I plan to make a pan dish with chicken, mushrooms and canned artichokes.  Maybe with enough sauce for some pasta of some sort.  We played golf this morning and had lunch at an A&W.  The diet root beer in a frosted mug was sooooo good.  Not a healthy lunch.  Hot dogs w/chili and fries.

I'm writing this in the Park Rapids library.  Down in the "holler" our Verizon signal is too weak for internet or telephone service.  The Dish tv does work.

I've been managing to keep up with most of the posts and sending mental replies  I hope you all received them!

Carole - good to hear from you!  It's nice to have the quiet of the RV park during the week.

Apple - the lilies sound lovely...how about a little picture?  And you do eat quite well!

Kaara - welcome back from WI.  Isn't it bizarre when it's hotter in the north country than in Florida!!!  I need to make that drive through the Smokies, I think we'd love it.

My DH brought home a can of that chocolate vodka whipped cream stuff.  I didn't really care for it, but maybe we didn't put it on the right drink or whatever.  And now that I think about it, that was last summer when I was on chemo.  I didn't like a lot of things Undecided  I do like Absolut Mandarin, Citron or Ruby Red with diet sprite and a splash of club soda.  It's a great summer drink instead of gin and tonic, which I really don't like.

Great news! The idiots at DMV made some error although I was releaved I was kind of ticked I told the guy I had not slept in 3 nights and all he did was laugh! Arghhh! Happy though wasn't sure if I was getting hauled off to jail for a crime I didn't commit LOL!

Michelle- When I went shopping they were out of the premade angel food cake so was going to bake it, I think I will keep that in the cupboard until winter and find the already made ones.

Kaara- Welcome back sounds like you had a great time, cute story about Bf and his mom! '-))

Carol- your trip sounds so much fun wish i could be outdoors camping and enjoying life like that. Safe travels!

DH is leaving for Spokane, Washington in a bit so guess I will go play bingo at the casino tonight and have leftovers.

Apple - it might be too late this year, but if you love lilies, you really should take a trip to Powell Gardens.  They have the most beautiful blooms every year.  It's on Hwy 50 East, probably would take you about an hour to get there.   You might also enjoy the butterfly conservatory that they have every year in August.

Apple- lol.  I have a great husband!  Tonight we had chicken quesadillas that he made.  I was giving the boys a bath and he said what are we going to have?  I told him my thoughts, I had nothing out after working etc and he said ok- I'll do it.  God I love him.

Carol and Kay so good to hear from you!

My brain is a big pile of ooze right now so I am sorry I am not responding more but wanted to check in.  Today went great, I am averaging close to 30 bucks an hour, but man do I feel old!  I used to so this 6 days a week, 12-14 hours and be ok.  Now, not so much!  One more day and then off for the week.  My MIL comes in for three days as of Wednesday....

Have a great night ladies:)  And Eric!!

I am so  far behind I'll never catch up.  Sounds like you have all been very busy one way or another and coming up with some great food ideas - and for that matter drink ideas Wink

Debbie - glad all turned out OK at the DMV - dumb arses.

    Apple: sorry about the lillies.

I am going to definitely try that fried chicken recipe - yum.  And Michelle, you always post the most amazing pictures.

Laurie - way to go on the hourly money - that must make the hard work worth it.

We are in the middle of a thunderstorm here.   Still very warm and tomorrow should be around 90 with no rain.  Dinner tonight is salmon and steamed veggies with ice cream to follow.

    Enjoy your evenings everyone.

Laurie:  Please note Michelle's post about the NetiPot.  I use the Neil Med sinus Rinse and it's great.  Anytime I think I'm getting I cold I double up on Vit C and clear my sinuses with this saline solution.  Haven't had a bad cold or sinus problems in 3 years - knock on wood.  That said, hope the doc got you fixed up.

Debbie:  Hooray about your driver's license.  What a wasted worry weekend.

Derm doc today froze 25 pre-cancerous places.  Have to go back in 30 days for several she's watching to biopsy if this 2nd freezing doesn't work. And of course those are on my face.  Yuck.

Dinner was one of the last "real" tomatoes for Houston (100+ degree heat killed them all last week) along with some corn on the cob & wild rice.

Debbie, that's a relief (if annoying) about the driver license.

It was 106F degrees at 8pm, so we went swimming.

Apple. Nice.... thank you for sharing that (the art show pictures in the stage 4 forum).

Dinner tonight was, by request, the same marinated chicken that I posted awhile back. I got home at a decent hour from work by leaving early and I saved up stuff I can do from home...so it's off to work for me.

    Everyone...stay cool and relax.

    Morning everyone!

Laurie:  I admire it that you are working to bring in a few extra dollars...it is hard work...I know from hearing my DGD's talk about their jobs, then you come home to a full house!

Debbie:  Glad that driver's license issue got worked out...how scary!

Michelle:  Beautiful photo...I have those plants around my back patio in Florida...they bloom year round.  I hope they didn't die in the hot sun this summer, but we are getting lots of rain down there so maybe not.  Yes, the smokies are beautiful...it's a trip not to be missed!

eric:  I actually thought I was back in Az this past week, it was so hot and dry in WI!  The pool is the best place to be, and I love it in AZ because when you get out, it feels like air conditioning.  I love those little misters they put around to keep people cool.  All that does in Fl is make you wet and sticky!

We had lentil soup for dinner last night, along with a green salad.  Trying to shed the greek diner pounds...lol!  Also went to my BF's favorite custard stand while in WI....Leon's...it's been a favorite since he was in high school.  I have to admit the butter pecan ice cream with pecans and hot fudge sauce was divine!  Yes...I ate it all and didn't feel one ounce of guilt...hehe!

Debbie  LOL  Someone here would bail you out:) Yes on the dreamsickle, very good, but a little too sweet for me, can only drink one...and what fun is only one?  I like the raspberry flavored vodka with some fruit juice or lemonade...very refreshing.

Michelle  love that photo.  It is so dry here, that all my plants are drooping.  We are on a well so I limit the watering to the vege plants only and the rest have to fend for themselves, but I hate it when the yard looks so bad.  the grass is dead and I have not had to mow in two weeks.

Today I take my sister to my breast surgeon for her initial appt.  She was having a bad day yesterday, trying to keep busy to keep her mind off everything.  We all remember being there...

Last night was grilled chicken salad, I had strawberries on mine with balsalmic dsg.  tonight will use the leftover chicken in maybe an alfredo sauce and use up leftover salad as a side. I have a ton of blueberries as they are plentiful now....anyone with desert ideas?  (that I could make ha ha)

Apple  LOL!  If you gave it some eyes on each side it would look like an old man.

Carrie - did you see the lemon blueberry trifle recipe/picture that I posted (instant lemon pudding, cool whip, store-bought angel food cake and blueberries).  That would be a good use of those blueberries.  Also, you can just pop them in a freezer bag for use later this year when they are not so plentiful (or terribly expensive).  I use the frozen ones in my greek yogurt for breakfast.  They thaw in just a few minutes.

Apple - is that an "heirloom" tomato species?  It's certainly an interesting one!

    Apple - cool looking tomato!

Dinner tonight will be fresh caught salmon - hubby just called that he caught one Laughing - and a salad.

We finally got summer here, but it's foggy/gray this morning.  The fog and clouds will burn off by about 10 (usually) and we'll have a gorgeous afternoon.  This is the time of year that living in Seattle is just great.  (January, not so much...)

Last night we had flank steak salad.  I had marinated the steak and DH barbecued it over the weekend, and I sliced up the remains for the salad.

I think it is so cool that blueberries are in good supply so early this year.

Michelle, love that flower with coordinated butterfly!

And love your unique tomato, Apple.

Just tried to post an Iphone pic I took on our walk (of the tip of the Cape) with no luck. Some day I will sit at my home computer and paste away!

Debbie, so relieved for you! Wasted worry is the worst.... glad it is over.

Carrie- Glad you are there for your sister to help her through this especially since you have gone through it and being her sister she undoubtatley will get the best support ever. Hope when she gets her plan in place she will feel somewhat better.

Lacey- Looking forward to seeing pics after you are able to post them.

Gardengumby- I agree the weather on the pacific NW  is just beautiful this time of year. So your DH caught a salmon and a salad hehe!

Kaara- Pecan ice cream with hot fudge sounds sooo good!

I feel like crap today, been feeling like i have been trying to come down with something all week and going to a smokey casino last night didn't help. Woke up with chills and sore throat almost feel like it strep and a cough that sounds like i have the croup or something. Wont do a thing today since DH won't be back until tomorrow. Ugh!

Dinner tonight was a pork loin with onions, carrots and sourkraut.  Also white asparagus on tomato and lettuce with herb dressing.

    Deb - too funny!

Dinner tonight - a conundrum...I need to take my Xeloda within 30 minutes after eating.  We went to pick up a bike rack that my DH found on Craigslist, and it was an hour away.  So at 6:30 we stopped for ice cream (and it wasn't that good).   Now we are home, I'm not hungry.  I guess I'm going to try and eat a little something.  I thought DH would cook burgers on the grill and I would just have the meat.  But he's upstairs looking at work stuff, says he doesn't want to drag out the grill, and I don't want a "fried" burger.  So I am cooking an ear of corn.  That should be enough.  He can have whatever he wants...he mentioned hot dogs.  Nothing sounds good tonight.  Weird for me!

    Michelle,

Had a fabulous day on the beach and could have been quite content staying in, skipping dinner and konking out, but did that last night after driving out here, so there was no way I would want to come between DH and his

P-town meals twice! :) Smart choice! We had an unbelievable dinner at a newer restaurant, Dalla Cucina. Started with a lightly breaded calamari with a balsamic reduction and pickled red onions. Would return just for that....but also split a Caesar salad comprised of two romaine hearts and Parmesan toasted bread slices and shaved Parmesan with red peppercorns...very nice. DH had a pasta with clams entree which he couldn't stop raving about, and I ordered something unusual for me... Breast of hen rolled with fontina, sage and pancetta over whole corn polenta. It was more than ample and tender with flavor to die for....and flanked by two glazed legs! I overheard the guy at the next table praising the inventive style of Michael the new chef. I would agree! Any chef who can get me to rave about chicken is amazing in my book. Better get up for a walk in the AM!

Ooooh, Lacey!  That meal sounds luscious!  I love linguine with clams, and the chicken sounds lovely, too!  Now I really need my DH to get me to the cape!  We should meet up for a nice dinner - I think we would be "compatible" dining partners!  After all, you sent me to La Morra...oh it was so good!

Seaside - so far, so good with the Xeloda.  I have an appointment tomorrow morning and she'll do tumor markers.  It will be interesting to see if X is working.  I won't get results until sometime on Friday.  I ate an ear of corn...that was my solution to the eating problem.  I could have gone without anything after the ice cream cone.  It was no-sugar-added, but still...  I have been pretty good about bringing my evening dose with me if we go out, but I guess I didn't think about it at 4:30 when we left.  Maybe I'll just keep a dose in my purse for good measure.
