If you go farther east from Flagstaff, which is where the casino is located, you drop in elevation to 5000 - 5500 feet. It is still cool (maybe upper 80F temps in the summer) and snows, but not as much...and the trees give way to a high plains kind of terrain. The only thing with that is the wind blows more.
I forgot to mention. Sharon and Chris took the tent trailer up north to get out of the heat. This means Sharon is feeling well enough to do this (last chemo is Monday). I'm stuck working through the weekend, so I'm staying here.
I am just going to warm up leftovers. Cooking for one isn't as much fun...

Here is a picture of my Grand-Dog going to the park in a bicycle basket. She likes it! My DD says she's too lazy to walk her. I guess she takes after me.
I'm hoping for good weekends for everyone! For dinner, Ginger Ale! I know that I am not a good cook but you all have such good ideas that I just fantasize......I eat out a few times a week, When it's hot I like to "put together stuff" instead of cook, and I'm vegetarian. I'll come up with something within a week, I promise!

Eric, you are right cooking for yourself isn't as much fun. its why I go out so much. Today I went to Highland House and had the whole chicken Breast with volcano sauce, and I always order grilled pineapple with it, , fresh sauteed veggies, (they have their own garden) and rice. Really good, and I have half of it for dinner tomorrow. It always looks so pretty, I should have taken a picture. Bedo, you need more than ginger ale! Hope you find something. Tazzy, I love pork chops too. Deb, hope things work for you, whereever you end up! And to all, much love.

The talk about pork chops has reminded me of a favorite I haven't made in a long time, nice thick pork chops floured and browned, laid on top of partially cooked scalloped potatoes and finished in the oven.

Eric- 5000 ft sounds a lot better. It looks like he may be flying out there next week. A little nervous about the whole thing but sometimes change is good i guess.
Glad Sharon is feeling good enough to travel. I always felt better right before my next chemo tx too.
Bedo- What a cute picture of your GD. I think you have posted some great recipes so you must be a pretty good cook! ;-)))

Last night I met Kathyrnn from the "Calling all TNs" thread - we met at Myers & Chang in Boston near Dana Farber and we had a fabulous time. Every time I meet someone from BCO in person, it's like we've known each other for years and the conversation picks up without skipping a beat. We started with blood orange margaritas - and they were really good. Then we moved on to nasi goreng (Indonesian fried rice), sesame snap peas, and surf and turf black pepper shanghai noodles. It was all so yummy!
Moonflwr - I asked Chef Google about volcano sauce and it seems to be sour cream, salsa and jalapeno...is that close? If I lived alone, I'd probably eat popcorn for dinner 3 nights a week!
Bedo - I agree...ginger ale is no dinner. And it won't help your fatigue one bit. You need some protein, my friend! And I'm glad you were able to post that picture of Smelly Nellie - it is such a cute picture!
I bought pork chops to cook this week, but they ended up in the freezer, along with the Italian sausage. I did cut up some chicken breasts and marinate them in Italian dressing yesterday along with some cut up peppers. DH grilled them for us for lunch, and I made him a caprese salad and I had fresh corn.
Kaara - I've eaten pretty low carb for more than 10 years, and only recently threw caution to the wind. I was trying to gain a few pounds so that my plastic surgeon would have something to work with when she made my new girls. But, that's off the table and now I have about 10 pounds that I really could do without - mostly because my size 4 pants won't fit. It's incredible how quickly you can pack on pounds if you're not careful!!! In the past I would have limited my fruit because of its sugar content. But I'm just not giving up watermelon, cherries, etc. So I'm eating the fruit and not worrying about it. And if we go to dinner with friends, I'm having a few bites of dessert. Life is too short... DH went to dinner without me last night and actually ordered a small steak, salad and veggies...no bread. So I think he's committed now. He did Atkins nine years ago and lost 60 pounds, so he knows how it works.
Debbie - my appointment was Wednesday. Everything was good except my tumor markers came back at 91, not so good (normal is 38 or below). But the oncologist reminded me that I've been on Xeloda for just 1 1/2 cycles and it's too soon to tell if it's working. We don't know what my markers were on the day I started treatment, they could have been higher. I have a PET/CT scan on 8/6 and another appointment on 8/15 - I'm sure we'll re-evaluate everything at that point. I'm just keepin' on keepin' on for now!

Daughter home from NYC requested a grilled steak for dinner, so last night was grilled steak and corn on the cob.
Debbie Hope you are feeling better and get some much needed rest, either day or night.
Today the girls are taking me shopping for my birthday...now this is my expertise before cooking.

Michelle: Sorry to hear your tumor markers weren't lower, but as you say, it is early in the tx and I'm praying for more positive results for you! In the meantime, you continue to feel and look good, and that is a blessing! Enjoy the moments in time!
Rain...rain...and more rain! It's either feast or famine here in NC this summer! This is our third day of foggy, rainy, chilly weather. It was in the 60's yesterday; however, I'm not really complaining. We needed the rain and the break from the heat. The plants love it! My BF will be grumpy today because clearly he won't be able to go out and play golf in this mess...he wouldn't even be able to find the ball it's so foggy:( It's a curl up with a good book day, and maybe a movie in town later.
We were headed back to Fl for a short visit on the 21st, but I got an invitation from a girlfriend to visit her home up here with a group of friends, so I'm putting off the Fl trip until late August which is my DGD's third birthday. It will be fun to get together with just the girls and catch up on things. We'll spend a couple of days together talking and shopping in the quaint little town she lives in.
Debbie: Good luck to your DH...hope this job interview turns out to be something better for both of you. New adventure is fun! The southwest is one of my favorite parts of the country!

Our last day here in beach paradise ;(.......but we are going home to attend a friend's birthday party. They are serving lobsters and mussels....that will soften the blow of the return.

I know what you mean about the popcorn thing. Last night we went to the premier of a very funny play in Wellfleet, "Saving Kitty". The acting was superb. Anyway, the plan was to eat here at a seafood fest the resort was offering ....DH had a very tasty looking grilled shrimp with garlic and rosemary, pilaf, and grilled veggies. I wasn't really hungry so had a health bar....but then did have an ice cream after the show...probably would have had that even if I did eat a regular dinner. Glad to hear your DH is doing well with the biking. Best of luck to him in the fundraiser!

hubby caught a salmon yesterday, so for dinner last night we had salmon done in the weber with spinach salad and brown rice. For desert we had blueberries and macadamia nuts.
For dinner tonight I'll make salmon and mushroom souffle with a green salad.

I am anxious to visit the Persian buffet I am going to with my bro for lunch. It smelled absolutely delicious when i checked it out the other day. they have a cooking pan that looks like a washtub and they slap the freshly pressed piece of pita dough onto it.. it bakes in just minutes.. Can't wait.

Oooh, Apple you will have a true feast with so many flavors. We recently went to a church fair of our next door neighbors who are Middle Eastern and they were cooking the bread that way. So yummy and fun to watch being prepared. I'm eager to hear what else you have. My DDIL is Persian (escaped from Iran as a 3 year old with her parents), and their food is so delicious. I like fruits and nuts which they use in a lot in their stews....and rose water in their desserts. Have a great lunch!
Off to the beach...tho we are having to pull ourselves off this deck overlooking the tip of Cape Cod....beautiful and spiritual.
Soon enough I'll be home weeding in our backyard in 90 degrees. Our fair country certainly has a lot of varied weather patterns this summer!0 -
Hello all - I will soon be leaving to go up to Washington DC for my first visit in the Her2+ vaccine trial. I am staying with my 24 year-old DS, so not sure what I will be eating for the next week! There are a lot of good and favorite restaurants up there so I am sure we will visit a few! Also great farmer's markets and excellent grocery stores close (Wegmans/Whole Foods/Trader Joe's) so I may also do some cooking for him and his cute GF. I have been avoiding packing but I want to just take a carry-on so I need to pack judiciously and give it sone thought!

I guess if anything good can come out of this terrible disease it's meeting wonderful people from here which clearly you have done. I hope Joyce is doing good. Some how I missed your post on your Dr appointment and your tumor markers. I hope they are way down on your next appointment, and everything is working!

MICHELLE, volcano sauce at this place is basically just a hot sauce, similar to tabsco, but without the big hit of vinegar. I always get grilled pineapple to go with it, as I love the hit of sweet and the dash of hot together. Yum.

Apple, so interesting weird? You are intrepid about challenging foods, so I'm curious about a fuller review.....
Enjoyed Head of the Meadow beach today.....so beautiful! Got to watch two seals doing laps up and down the coast, right off the beach....apparently the smart ones that got away from the sharks which are devouring the many seals that live several miles away on Chatham's coast.
Sadly we are packing up now....this was one of the best weeks. So appreciative to have it. I was mentioning to DH that we are so lucky that in the 30+ years we have had this time share, the overall environment has hardly changed at all....and not a chain store in sight! Just beautiful dunes and beaches....and colorful activity in the heart of P-town. It was Bear Week here....hysterical, if a bit crowded for space everywhere.

a fuller review... the buffet was a bit 'old' .. the curries had sat there for a while and the flavors blended.. they all tasted pretty much the same. It was so healthy.. well i kind of wanted to pig out... the food was actually expertly prepared. maybe i wasn't in the mood.
the bread was soooooooo good tho and the babba ghanoush and hummus were excellent.. I guess it's worth another trip or two. I just wasn't blown away. The owner thought i was Persian because my scarf was tied so 'professionally'.. ha ha. i asked him how many Persians had blue eyes and he said.. actually, quite a few. (Iranians I guess).

Dinner was two gin & tonics, two ears of corn on the cob and 2 pieces of spinach artichoke quiche from Costco. I'll try to work off the calories at water aerobics in the morning if we can get an hour or two without thunderstorms & rain in Houston.

Apple, that bread is the best. It is basically naan. It is cooked that way all Across kurdistan, Persia and India. We have a Kurdish restaurant in town where they bake it, and it is really, really good.

Dh bought a large meat lovers pizza for dinner and for dessert we had ice cream with chocolate fudge topping.

We are home and getting ready to head to our friend's lobster birthday bash this afternoon. It is really hot here (already miss that sea breeze). Would love to head to NH later, but DS2 is hosting his hometown buddies there this weekend.
Stopped at Plymouth for dinner on our trip home last night where the wait for a table at all the seafood restaurants on the harbor was too long for my tired self, so we tried a Thai restaurant on the main street. Had that hot soup with shrimp, spring rolls, and Pad Thai. The soup was great....not so much the rest, but the atmosphere was lovely and I was surprised to see so many people out walking on their main street at 10:00PM...no pilgrims tho.0 -
Thanks everyone I had a great B-day yesterday with the girls, got a cute summer dress and some shoes. Met a cancer survivor last evening, 3 yrs out, she had the Diep recon as well, we talked for quite awhile.
Today there is a triathalon going on, the bikers are all going past my house this morning. Michelle thinking of you and your husband biking.
Garden.....Yum for salmon. Yes please share the soufle recipe.
Oh and Michelle, I did take note of the desert with lemon pudding and blueberries, just gotta get the stuff.
Apple that buffet sounds good, Hope you had some appetite to enjoy some of it.
