    Debbie,

With a day like that, I agree with tougherthanithought!  I think at that point, even using a glass would have been optional!!  LOL

Debbie................hysterical (although not while it was happening)...shocked DH is still alive this easter monday.

Don't feel bad though, the other day I made myself coffee in my Keurig (love it) in the morning, too k a container out of the fridge, took off the lid, poured it thought the cream looked awfully yellow, but no lights on in the kitchen so I thought hmmmm, oh well...........Took a big swig of my coffee, only to find out I had put   Egg Beaters, Southwestern style egg mixture into my coffee...............Got pissed, threw the thermal mug into the sink, lid popped off, broke the mug, ($20.00), splashed coffee all over the cabinets, and backsplash, and a brand new ($40.00) sweat shirt.  .................so not a good day.

I threw a small ham on the rotisserie, served it with dressing, candied yams, broccoli and a frozen cheese cake for dessert :)

I love my rotisserie---makes everything taste great :)

Ducky- Yuck!  I cringed reading your post!

I am trying to decide when to cook my ham that I bought.  Anyone have god recipes for leftover ham?  I am going to have a bunch leftover and the only thing I usually do with it is pea soup.  I need more ideas!

    duckyb1 Member Posts: 9,646

Hey Laurie08, Pea soup sounds great.........................Bean soup...............ham and cabbage................ham salad....................ham and eggs.....................then of course, you can eat it as ham again like another Easter dinner.........I gave mine to my daughters to take home, and froze some uncooked for the shore for the summer.......however, I hate ham.

    Oh, Yuck, on the mix-ups!!

Lucky for me, I am way past the point of having diaper creme in the house and my wrinkle cream doesn't come in a tube!  The only thing I will need to watch out for in that list is the Egg Beaters!  I do have those...

    LuvRVing,

I, also remember Sunday nights watching "The Wonderful World of Disney" with the whole family together because we only had 1 TV!

    Debbie,

Glad to hear that things smoothed out on Easter!

We used to go to the drive-ins quite a bit when we were growing up.  My mom would pop an entire paper grocery bag full of popcorn!

They always showed 2 movies.  The first would be a G rated movie, then an intermission (anyone remember the  "Let's go out to the lobby" song?")  The second movie was an R rated one.

Parents could choose to leave at intermission or, if their kids were asleep, they would stay!  I remember one time it was my parents that fell asleep and us 4 kids watched a rather racy (for those days) movie!  We had to wake them up to leave....LOL!!!

Edited to add: We still have a drive-in that is open about 45 minutes from where I live!  Have never been there but, may be fun to do someday!

    PuppetLady,

Those rotisseries really do a great job!  My mom has one and the chicken she cooks on it.... MMMMMMM!

    Laurie,

I struggle with what to do with the leftover ham each time we have it....

First off it freezes VERY well so that's an option!  Slice it up and bag it in quantities that your family will eat.

Scalloped Potatoes and Ham.... Kind of basic so I think maybe the kids would eat this!

    Ham Salad Sandwiches

I have a meat grinder attachment for my mixer, so usually will grind some up and make a ham loaf.  That's actually fairly simple and the glaze is a little sweet so the kids may like that too!  If you don't have a grinder, I would think you could use a food processor.  The plus to this is it uses a lot of ham.  I always seem to pick recipes that take just a little of the ham and produce even MORE leftovers...

I also will grind it up and freeze it for a future ham loaf!

    Bean/Pea soup is always delicious!

    Quiche

Laurie- I was thinking the same thing today, I had bought a 13 pd ham so still have quite a few leftovers- besides a ham and bean soup which i probably will make this week or next because I froze the ham bone and some of the ham for that.

I buy the cresent rolls, unrolled put some ham and cheese in there and anything else you might want to add, roll up pinch the edges and do an egg wash put in preheated oven 375% for about 10 minutes or untill browned.

You can also do a ham and broccoli and potatoe casserole- or the quiche i posted awhile back that had a hashbrown crust i think it was with sausage but you could replace that with ham which i have done.

Another one would be like a ham and pea salad- or, a fried rice with ham

    PS- I love ham lol!

Seaside- We were posting at the same time, some of our ideas were duplicats!

LOL@Lets go out to the lobby! I do remember that, My mom also put the popcorn in big paper bags too, and i couldnt wait till intermission to go play on the swing sets they had right smack in front of all the cars so every one could watch!  My parents would lay the back of our station wagon down so we would go to sleep while they watched the second movie my parents would sit out front of the car on lounge chairs, we would also peek during the second movie- too funny!

When my husband and I were in Santa Monica recently having breakfast at the hotel, I noticed at the table they had what I thought was sugar in a cute little wooden bowl with a mini spoon.  After I fixed my coffee (cream and sugar) and took a sip, I almost spit it out across the table.  Jackass, here, put salt in her coffee!  So gross!  I flagged down the waitress, and she knew right away what happened, because I was laughing so hard!  She said I wasn't the first person to do that!  I felt like such a moron!

Tonight we had egg salad sandwiches.

Sherrill- oh that must of tasted aweful! We had fried egg and ham sandwiches for lunch!

Here is a quick and easy blender hollandaise sauce that is good for eggs benedict you could use ham instead of canadian bacon which i prefer any way.

    • 3 egg yolks
    • 1/4 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 1 dash hot pepper sauce (e.g. Tabasco™)
    • 1/2 cup butter

    Directions

    1. In the container of a blender, combine the egg yolks, mustard, lemon juice and hot pepper sauce. Cover, and blend for about 5 seconds.
    2. Place the butter in a glass measuring cup. Heat butter in the microwave for about 1 minute, or until completely melted and hot. Set the blender on high speed, and pour the butter into the egg yolk mixture in a thin stream. It should thicken almost immediately. Keep the sauce warm until serving by placing the blender container in a pan of hot tap water.

While we are waxing a bit nostalgic... I also remember going to the movie theater on Saturday for the matinee...

Back then, you paid 75 cents and could watch movie after movie... You didn't have to leave in between!  You could also bring in your own snacks.  We brought our really large popcorn bag (Oh, would my kids just be mortified if they had to do that now), got 50 cents to go next door to the Fannie Farmer store to buy a candy bar before the movie and only bought a soda in the theater!  We had a great time and, the fact that we were ALL gone for the afternoon, I'm sure made my Mom happy as well!

Ah, such simple, but really good, times!

Ok, here's another one....I was in my late 20's married and had 4 kids at the time.......I went to a bowling banquet with my husband.......Dinner was really held up, and I had probably about 3 drinks on an empty stomach...................When we finally sat down to eat, I almost missed the end of the chair, but my husband caught me mid fall.. I said to my husband........."I need coffee, cause I'm hit in the ass", (never drank much).........When the waiter came I asked for a cup of coffee...........He brought it, and I put in my sugar and cream, and took a big swig...............After swallowing it, I said "What the hell is wrong with this coffee"..................Wasn't the coffee, I put "salad dressing" in it instead of cream...............why you ask, because there  was no cream on the table, and the small pitcher was "dressing"...................It really doesn't pay me to drink..................Worst part was...........I was sitting next to the Priest......he bowled too...............how the hell was I suppose to know............he left his collar home.........Oh well, another embarrassing moment in the life of Ducky B1

Seaside - I remember when the movie was 25 cents...lol.  And yeah, we would do our Saturday chores then go off to the movies with kids from the neighborhood.  We would walk - and we were young, less than ten!  No one would let their kids do that these days.  And yes, it was almost always a double feature so we were gone for the whole afternoon.

WOW......................I remember those movie days, especially when they would start out with the News........and that friggin "rooster that crowed".............We were doing Trivial Pursuit, and the question was a "femal ice skater" I said "Sonji Heini", my kids said "who the hell is that, and of course there was no point in saying "that was John Payne's leading lady", ...............but yes the double features were fun,,,,,,,We would go to the corner "deli" before the movie and buy the "biggest jewish pickle" in the barrel, and sit and eat that..............no fancy popcorn, nacho's, or $3.00 boxes of candy, if you wanted someting you brought it with you.......Back then you were lucky your parents could afford the cost of the movie admission, and sometimes we would send it 2 friend,..............they would go in, sneak to the exit door down near the screen, and open it, and let a gang of us sneak in..........................back then that was considered being a "juvenile delinquent"..............fun days.

ladies, we are dating ourselves! How about gas at 25 cents a gallon? It shot up just before I got my license to, gasp, almost a dollar! When my older sister got her license, we would scrounge up 50 cents and drive all over the place getting into all kinds of mischief! My mom crocheted afghans while sitting in gas lines during the early 70's (I'm 54).

I love all the stories! They just bulldozed our local drive in. Go while you have the chance if you have one nearby, especially if you have kids. When I was a kid, our drive in had a playground down close right in front of the screen. There was one of those push around merry-go-rounds and I remember sitting on one of the horses with the HUGE people on the movie screen. I was probably only 3 or 4, my sister 7 or 8; in those days, parents didn't worry so much, at least mine didn't. I'm sure they were in the car, drinking beer and making out.

The wrong ingredient stories are great. The first time my DH & I went to Hawaii, we got to Lahaina exhausted, and starving. While waiting for a table in the bar, I ordered a cup of coffee; the waitress brought me a kamikazee and was so pissed off when I said , no, a cup of COFFEE, we never saw her again. We also found out why the table we picked wasn't occupied, near the railing with a gorgeous view; a SHOWER came included with the table; the waves were sloshing up over the top! over 25 years later and we're still laughing about it!

LtotheK; Thank you for the Shulman cookbook recommendation; it looks great! I'll give it a try, through the library first before I buy.

Bran muffin, yogurt, & strawberries for breakfast with probiotics . . . I'm still trying to get my digestive system back on track after nasty antibiotics. Thai food out yesterday ---- garlic chicken w/broccoli & carrots, yum! I've got to work on perfecting that recipe! Hard to get the garlic caramelized without turning bitter. Today is our busy day, but I am going to try to pull something healthy together -- everyone here needs to cut back after Easter and all the recent birthday parties; maybe brown rice w/roasted veggies and grilled chicken with some kind of sauce, chimichurri maybe?

Anyone planning something special for the Royal Wedding? I love an excuse to make things festive; I'm not a Royal fan, but I have to watch! Cucumber sandwiches, high tea? LOL, we have a meeting in the afternoon and they always have pizza (usually cold and always the same kind - bleh - I keep saying I'm going to pack a salad!). My DH said the wedding will happen between midnight and 2 am our time but I'm sure they will be running it ALL day, so lots of opportunities to see the gown!

Oh Lord I hate to be a kill joy, but I am all Royal Weddinged out..............I am so tired of watchingit on every channel in Philly..........My daughters (married) love the whole thing, and everytime I complain, they laugh........Those goons are even  gettting up to watch it a 4am in the morning.........I told them...........If I'm tossing and turning (like last ngiht), and I am tired of trying to go back t sleep, I will get out of bed and watch it, otherwise, I can catch it all day long, cause I'm sure that is all we will see..............Well at least we won't have to watch Charlie Sheen, and Lindsey Lohan for a while...................

Treespirite........I remember .17 cents a gallon...........It was 1973 we had just bought the biggest, most beautiful car I ever saw (other then my Cadillac in 85)..........This was a Chrysler New Yorker Brougham with a white vinyl top.......burgandy bottom, and an all whie interior......it was a show stopper............you could fill the damn thing up for $2.00.............Then in 1974 gas prices did go up to WOW $1.00 a gallon, and you couldn't even get the damn gas 1/2 the time, and when you did you sat in long lines, and you went on specific days according to your license plate............We could barely afford the damn gas, but "oh what a car".

Ok, just a funny story, guess I'll go watch the news, its 12 noon here, and I'm sure there is crap about the wedding, but I want to see the weather...........ttyl

Yuk!  All those nasty coffee concoctions and mouths full of anything-but-toothpaste!

My ham was large but all that's left is the bone with some meat on it.  We'll probably use it to season a pot of beans of some variety.  Left over ham can be frozen in packets for seasoning.  The ham loaf is delicious, too.  You don't need a meat grinder.  A food processor does the job.

I made a delicious and healthy Chopped Salad last night with cauliflower, broccoli, carrots and an avocado.  I first ate this salad when a kind golf friend and her DH brought us dinner during the week following my BMX.

Dice the veggies small.  I do the cauliflower and broccoli by hand and the carrots in a food processor.  Also dice the avocado small.  Season with salt and pepper and your favorite seasoning.  I use a Cajun seasoning, Prudhomme's Magic without salt.  I sprinkle quite a bit of it and then add EVOO as the dressing.  Last night I also poured a little white balsamic vinegar.  It is so-o-o good and can be eaten the next day, too.

I just discovered this thread, great idea.  I have a leftover ham, so tonight I am making scalloped potatoes with ham because my kids will love it.

Carole, thanks for the ideas.  I will try freezing some of the ham, that Chopped Salad sounds great and very healthy!

I love all the remember when stories!  When we went to the movies, which wasn't often we always brought our own food.  My mother would put popcorn in sandwich bags and a soda for my brother and I to share in her purse.  The first movie I ever saw was at a drive in and my mom went all out and had even bought us some M&M's, which was amazing.  My mom NEVER gave us candy so that made the night all that much better.

My ham is in the oven, psyched that you ladies say it freezes well.  I know I'll end up freezing some.  We will have our sinful cheese and rice with it and some salad, I don't think the salad will off set the cheese and rice but hey, it's still trying right?  lol!

What I usually do is buy a whole boneless ham..............Its cheaper if you get the whole one by a good bit.........i then cut off how much I need, and them freeze the remaining piece.  Ham is much better if you don't cook it before you freeze it.....So if yo don't need the whole thing, but buy it for the savings, that is what you can do.................Sometimes I'll cut the piece I am going to freeze in 1/2 again, and freeze it that way.........If I have several people I will take out both........If its just me, and a couple people I take out 1 piece...........Works every time.......Sometimes i just give it to my daughters,..............cause.........................I hate ham............Tongue out
