Merry Christmas and God Bless Us Everyone!

Susan, hope you're feeling better. Lacey, I hope your DH is feeling better. I've had a cough for awhile, especially at night. Never had a cold, saw the new onc for a six month visit and he thought it was a side effect of the ace inhibitor I take, even though I've been taking it for over a year and the cough has only been going on for about a month.

Lacey, Kaara, Michelle and Laurie, and everyone else with little ones, it makes the holidays so much fun, enjoy! My DD at 15 is the youngest in my family. But my niece is expecting in March, so next year there will be a little one!

Kaara, I am going to try those green beans. They sound yummy. Christmas ve was a success last night. Most all the hors d'ouvers we had were gone, except the raw veggies and dip, go figure! Looking forward to reading how everyone's Christmas was later. Enjoy!

    Merry Christmas everyone!

We are sitting in a very quiet house, which feels weird after having our little DGS and DGD here for four days. They left today after visiting with us at our friends with whom we have Christmas dinner. They are safely home now, and when we called a bit ago we could hear the chaos in the background...making our quiet house not seem so terrible. ;) But boy, was it fun to have that little tornado here. He is so interesting and fun! I think it will be even more fun when we head down to visit at his house since he knows his boundaries, and it is more kid proofed, so we will worry less about his safety. What a pistol! My relatives used to call my DS2 that....and I can see the genetic similarity!

Yesterday we took the kids (toddler and infant, who slept the whole time) to the Children's Museum....it was way busier than I expected. The two year old had a great time...as did his dad. Then we went to visit DS2 in his nearby bachelor pad, which was a riot. DGS managed to unearth every ball DS2 had in his condo....and being a sports person, he has a lot.

We had a strange potpourri for Xmas Eve dinner since we had a late lunch in Southie. So it was large shrimp cocktail ( had to have some fish afterall) along with leftover pulled pork sandwiches, ciabatta bread with pesto dip,and a few other appetizers left over from the party.

This AM, DH made lovely omelets for breakfast before we opened gifts. I really do appreciate his ability and willingness to make breakfast when we have houseguests since I am not at all a breakfast person, and it is the one cooking effort at which he is really good!

So we are home with no dinner mess to clean up, and an invitation to enjoy more Christmas cheer at our next door neighbors'. Why not!?

I hope all those wonderfully planned Christmas meals worked out beautifully for all of you and that your day was special!

Auntie Nance, what a lovely message....and back to ya! :)

Oh, and tomorrow we head to the eye surgi-center at 6 AM to let the doc decide if she will do DH's cataract surgery despite his intermittent cough. Oy!

Also, our friend had a very vegetable-full dinner for our holiday meal today. She usually has salmon or beef tenderloin. Today there were many appetizers, shrimp cocktail; cheese tray; my smashed pea/ricotta crostini; spanikopita; melon with prosciutto and a fruit platter. The meal was Italian braised chicken pieces with olives, accompanied by green beans, roasted brussels sprouts with cranberry and pine nuts, sweet potato in a custard cup of sorts, arugula salad with roasted tomato, garlic bread, and a fabulous chocolate cake from a bakery. Very nice.....

    Merry Christmas to all.

Lacy, hope things go well with DH surgery.

Our get together was brunch. I made a strata with sausage, peppers onions and cheese. My DD made the ham. And a stuffed French toast casserole with pumpkin spice filling. Fruit salad and, of course cookies. I did eat dome nut not that much. But real fun to be together. Hope everyone had the same kind of fun. Much love.

Hi MRDRN!!  Merry Christmas!  Glad you found this thread!

Michelle- Thinking of you this morning hope all goes well with your appointment.

Lacey- Hope things go ok for your DH at his appointment with the eye surgeon.

    Debbie- Welcome back!

We are expecting more than a foot of snow that is going to start late afternoon today.  So I will need to head to the grocery store this morning with the boys.  Almost out of milk, juice etc.  Besides that I am going to try to dig my way out of the mess!  Toys are everywhere!!  Not to mention getting all the crock pots to their rightful places etc.  Looks like we will be spending the next couple of days staying home.  I need to come up with a couple of dinner ideas.  Maybe a potato leek soup?

DH surprised me on Christmas with the best gift of all- a weekend away without the boys.  I have never been away from them for 24 hours and I am EXCITED!  It has been 5+ years of being Mommy 24- 7 and we are just going to the seacoast and staying in a hotel for 2 nights.  Yippie!  I will get to sleep, eat and be an adult for a whole weekend!

yay Laurie!  I used to wear my work clothes to drop my daughter off at nursery school then come home and change into pjs and go to sleep on my day off.  I knew if she knew I was home she would tell the teacher she was sick. Have fun!!!

We had a great Christmas, turned out I didn't go to any of my "families" because my DD wanted me to stay with her, so we ordered Chinese and read foot to foot on the couch.  It's hereditary.

I hope everyone had a great Holiday.

PS, what a cute picture, Deb!

I have to go to work.  I don't want to . I was getting used to not going

Laurie  SCORE on the weekend getaway!

Bedo that sounds like the perfect evening, sometimes all the visiting and get togethers can be too much. Christmas Eve we stayed ina dn did movies and popcorn, a little relaxation before the madness on Christmas Day.

Deb  Love the pic  Oh to be in a warm place.....storm gonna hit here also tonight, predicting a foot of snow.

Moonflwr  Stuffed French toast with pumpkin? Wanna share that one?

Laurie:  I remember those days!!  Enjoy your weekend!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with friends and family!  My DD and I had a nice dinner together at a local farm to table restaurant...expensive, but we shared and it was delicious!  Nice to have just a mother/daughter day.

Photo: She's like a deranged Easter Bunny. She's a pink nightmare! Hope your Christmas had as many laughs as ours did. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

My Christmas Eve jammies from my hubby and DD...LOL!  I laughed so hard I cried!!!  They made me come to the top of the stairs the same way Ralphie did it in A Christmas Story.  And they had that scene queued up on the tv to coordinate with my "grand entrance".

Photo: She's like a deranged Easter Bunny. She's a pink nightmare! Hope your Christmas had as many laughs as ours did. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Here I am with my granddaughter.  For the record, I did not sleep in this getup, I received some cute real PJs, too.

My IV machine just beeped - I am almost out of the chemo center.  At least it's fast.

    More later...

lacey - sounds like a whirlwind of activity at your house, good luck to DH at getting rid of the cough and the upcoming surgery - my dad and my MIL did well with it.

susan - hope you are feeling better, and were able to enjoy.

laurie - having been a military wife the whole time I was a parent of young ones I remember going many years without a vacation away from kids - we never lived near any family.  ENJOY, you've earned it!

We started last night with shrimp and champagne, then had a standing rib roast served with a sour cream and horseradish sauce, oven roasted potatoes rubbed with olive oil and S&P, sauteed zucchini/yellowsquash/carrots, warm italian bread and a green salad with citrus vinaigrette.  Too full for dessert - which is good because I didn't make one!  We had Christmas Eve dinner with friends - the beauty of Florida living - grilled steaks outside by the pool, but they sent half of the cheesecake and strawberry sauce home with us so that was the available dessert.  Plus, I have remnants of all of last week's baking.  Pretty relaxed, and we didn't open any gifts until about 10 p.m. because the kids went out on the boat and fished all day.  Their Christmas breakfast was PB&J sandwiches and Andes mint cookies!

deb - been to that beach - loved it and such a cute pic.

luvrving - enjoy your family and so happy you are all together!

Hope you are all enjoying the holiday whatever you are doing!

Not sure if DS will get to fly out today due to weather, but I won't complain about getting to keep him for another day!

OMG, Michelle!!!! That picture is sooooo funny! There was a marathon showing of A Christmas Story on TV yesterday so watched it in between getting things ready for dinner.... Miracle on 34th Street and A Christmas Story are my 2 must-see movies during the holidays... Hope your chemo went smoothly and that the carbo kicks some cancer butt!!

Michelle, LOVE your hair AND the PJs. Your DGD is totally precious. What an adorable photo! Yay for your chemo session being fast......and, of course, effective and gentle! :)

Laurie, that is the best gift!! Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy! After having the two babies here, I can totally appreciate how wonderful this rejuvenating time with DH will be for you both.

I also did the solo child care sans family support or time away, so know how precious a gift this is. That was many years ago and when time-share marketing was at its peak. One weekend, after a long rainy week in the house, and having gone three years with no vacations, DH and I decided to respond to THREE time-share offers on the Cape. We impulsively (lured by watching our one year old playing at the bay water's edge)bought one to force ourselves to get away...and have used our July week in P-town every single year since....that was in 1981! A good desperation impulse buy...:)

This morning, before dawn, DH and I arrived at the surgi-center with high hopes that he could get that second cataract done. They were able to give him something to suppress the cough, and got the procedure done successfully. Phew! We got home before 9AM and both crashed until 1PM!

Now it's time to take his patch off....

I loved the efficiency of having this done at the surgi-center....

Laurie, enjoy your getaway!  I am sure you will.

Lacey, glad they were able to take care of the cataract for you DH.  I hope recovery is smooth.

Bedo, your Christmas sounds nice and cozy!  I am glad you enjoyed each other's company.

Deb, I am jealous of your DD.  What a great place to live.  Love the picture.

Michelle, love that movie and love the picture.  I am glad the chemo was fast, hope it's easya and effective too.  (((hugs)))

I am at work doing inventory.  Yuck!  I am so busy every year at this time.  I hate it.  Oh, well, better get back to work and get it done.  At least I am enjoying reading about everyone's Christmas.

Lacey - please send our best wishes to your DH.  I know cataract surgery is usually not a big deal but any surgery has its risks.  I hope he has an uneventful healing.

Thanks everyone!  My family has quite the sense of humor!
