So...whats for dinner?

Oh, no, we are much prettier than Dodo.
Have you had an MRI? I kind of liked it. The noises were funny. Plus I was tired and almost fell asleep
You can be the petite one, the one who they say about, how did she get those tall girls, well 5'61/2, girls as sisters. Plus that slug Bedo, for the love of God, someone get her off the couch.
You will handle it better than I. I took 2 percocets after surgery, decided that I needed a beer too, and then cold pizza and fell down the stairs in the dark going after the pizza at 2 am, and fractured my eye orbit. I told my friends I was fine, fine, just fine, so go home! I was "slightly" stressed. Yippee! Two surgeries!
What is the next step for you? I amThe flaky one. I only pay attention at work

Bedo and Bobo- you guys are cracking me up!

I'm enjoying the twins dialogue. You two are funny.
Debbie, I wish I had words that would bring you some comfort.
About 5:30 I was hit with the realization that I wanted soup for dinner. I got cannelini (sp?) beans, chicken broth and a package of ham cubes out of the freezer. Emptied them into a pot and added a small can of diced tomatoes. Let that simmer for 30 min. and added egg noodles. Turned out to be a tasty soup. We also had a yummy chopped salad with lettuce, grape tomatoes, cucumber, and avocado. DH added chopped sweet onion to his salad and I added calamata olives to mine. Dressing was wine vinegar and Hellman's light.

Laurie, shhhhh.... naps are the new sex.

I agree with Laurie... hilariously funny

Bedo-I couldn't agree more.

And Laurie...your Facebook post about the ladybug naming cracked me up!
Maybe DS1 can hire Jacob to name the lady bug families in their new house.
So I discovered that having DS2 here after a fairly simple procedure, but one that required him to slow down for a change (for the sake of his eyes) is a great way to catch up on his busy life....and even find out a bit about who is he dating. Boys are often so measured in what they share.....thankful for tonight. And was careful not to ask too much.
We had Amelia's chicken vegetable soup and BLT's for dinner....with some roasted red pepper hummus and matzoh bread on the side since DH cannot pass that up when it hits the store shelves.
Going to the MO tomorrow with a plan to ask her about the possiblity of my getting off Tamoxifen. I doubt she would ever buy into my wish to do this but I just need to hear the numbers again since I did not really pay as much attention as I should have when this decision was being made last year, when I was a walking zombie working twelve hours a day and finishing radiation. The Tamox has so many awful side effects for me (not the least of which is that I cannot sleep, so am always exhausted) that I'd love to take a vacation from it to see what happens .So, we'll see how it goes.....0 -
Lacey- Good luck with your appointment, I hope you get a break from it. When you talk about your son it makes met try to hold dear that mine still want to sit on my lap at the same time and snuggle me. I know it won't be long and they will have "better things to do". Not to mention neither one of them ever stops talking right now- I couldn't imagine having to pull words out of their mouths as you do most men/boys- but I know it will change. Sounds like you had a good night with your son.
For those of you not on Facebook, we found a Lady Bug in the house yesterday. The boys got lettuce, put it in a bowl and tried to "keep it". It flew away and tonight they found it again. Just as we finished dinner they saw it fly and DS1 was so excited, caught it, sat at the table and said he would name it. I asked him what he was going to name it and after a minute he replied...." Mrs. Sparkle Nuts". DH and I looked at each other and smiled- what?? He repeated himself....alas Mrs. Sparkle Nuts has disappeared again, but her name....will make me laugh my ass off for at least a week!

Carole -- never stop posting your menus in detail. I love them. I feel like I know you!
Laurie -- how I miss even the chance for a nap! I remember trying to "earn" them. I called it "running offense." Actually I borrowed that phrase from my brother.
Bedo -- I have had MRIs -- like, 5 of them. I am the dog that does not like them. Your pizza story is not funny to me because right at the moment you fell, I remember I had a terrible headache
I ended up having little homemade pizzas on naan bread last night, with magic vegan cheese on them. Long terrible non-treatment-related day ahead. Laurie can I come over with my two and have a playdate instead?

Lacey, are you pre-menopausal? And that is why you're taking tamoxifen? I haven't researched tamoxifen since it wasn't an option for me, but the discussion on bc.org has led me to think tamoxifen has more serious SEs than arimidex and the drugs in that class.
Laurie, cute story about naming the ladybug.

Food this week has been varied. I made Bavarian pretzels to enjoy with some sausages from Carl's. The recipe indicated that you roll the dough into long snakes and then shape. Clearly my snakes were too fat since I ended up with shaped pretzel rolls. So now I know how to make pretzel rolls, which I do love. Last night, we let the Fish Family make our dinner. I had fish and chips, while husband had a combo plate of clams and shrimp. Way too many fries and we left more than half on the plate. I now order a medium cole slaw when we eat there. It goes from a small which is about 1/8 cup of slaw to a medium which is 2 cups! Needless to say, there is some in my fridge today.
Yesterday one of my husband's client brought us 10 lbs of cooked duck breast. These are leftovers from a Google lunch; where he works. May I say, this is a lot of duck. Tonight I will make a duck hash and we will have breakfast for dinner. I will also make a duck ragu so that I can freeze the duck for the future. I leave tomorrow for Portland, OR and the duck wouldn't be good when I return. I had planned a leek and potato soup for dinner. A vegan meal to lighten up our menu but that is not to be.

Rick made bacon and eggs this morning, and I had a piece of pumpernickel swirl toast with blackberry jam - and I really enjoyed the toast. We are meeting my sister for lunch in a little while and Rick is taking me. She doesn't trust conventional medicine and she wants me to use maple syrup and baking soda to "cure" my cancer. Rick will be my protector - I don't think she'll push too hard if he is there.
Rick's golf buddies in Kansas City talked us into meeting them in Phoenix so we are going 3/20 - 3/26. Everything is booked (with trip insurance) and we'll be at a resort in Carefree, AZ so I can enjoy the pool and spa while the boys play golf. My energy level is non-existent so I hope things improve...I think I'll need a wheelchair or one of those little airport trams to get me to the gate unless my blood counts improve. The good news is the flights are nonstop so there's no running from gate to gate.
Ten pounds of duck breast??? That would fill my fridge and freezer!!!

Michelle, you have picked probably the best time of year to be in Phoenix. The weather should be awesome.

Wow Susan, that's a lotta duck! Riches indeed!
Michelle, I really hope you can get your counts up so you can regain your strength.
We have departed Galveston island for Abita Springs, LA. Going to try to get some more biking in there. Abita springs is home to one of my favorite beers, Purple Haze. Last nights dinner was a so so filet at Saltgrass Steakhouse (a chain). They have good steaks and the prime rib is usually very good, but the filet was pretty forgettable. It's not my favorite steak anyway but I was persuaded to order it. My bad. Hoping for something a little better tonight. It's our 33rd wedding anniversary today.0 -
Happy Anniversary!

Carole, that had better not be all I get today. If you do not plan on cooking, I suggest you make something up. XXX

Susan, I just wanted to mention that your post was so wonderful. I do think it's my job to absorb what is too much to bear for my sisters here. You just put it into words for me. {{{}}}

Eric - thanks, that is good to know. We haven't had the greatest luck with our last couple of trips. I'm hoping for warm sunny skies with not too much of a breeze!

Auntie Happy Anniversary Sounds like your travels are going well and the meals out.
Michelle Happy travels to you as well...LOVE Arizona Wish they had a magic pill to get those counts and your energy back up.
Susan That is a lot of duck. the guy up the road used to raise ducks and sell them to NYC restaurants. His yard was a sea of white ducks. No longer does this as he is in jail for murdering his wife and son....yup! right in our little neighborhood where we dont lock doors. Sad
Laurie Kids say the funniest things...your son was very creative. I would buy the clay at one of those "unusual" toy stores, I think it came with a book also and yes you can bake the metal things right in them. You bake at a very low temp. another favorite was the book of paper airplanes...needed some assist to punch out and form the paper airplanes ( directions included) and the kids would play forever with them perfecting the folds to get the best flight. Funny, as my son is now a design engineer.

Bobo- I would be up for a playdate anytime!!
Carrie- OMG! The guy killed his wife and son? That is sad and frightening! I don't think my littlest is ready for paper airplanes. But you are giving me the oomph I need to do the salt clay.
Bedo= Thanks for posting the link!
Michelle- I hope your counts come back so you can enjoy your trip. Can you do a blood transfusion? My mother always felt so much better after she had one. I hope you have a wonderful trip and enjoy the sunshine!
Susan- Happy anniversary! Have fun celebrating.
I have nothing planned for dinner. I am honestly not hungry so I can't even think of food. I had a bunch of errands and things to get done today and while I was out and about I was starving so I got a whopper from Burger King. augh. No fries, no soda, just the burger and a bottle of H2O. I am still full and bloated which proves why I don't do that often. I am sure we will come up with something.

I have absolutely no ideas for dinner either. There is always something for the kids. But I want something fresh and delicious. Wish I had watermelon! Someone mentioned that, and now I want it.

Nancy, I can't believe you're in Abita Springs. That's no more than a 20 to 30 min. drive from my house. Where do you stay there? The favorite beer must be from the Abita brewery. DH likes their dark beer. If you're going to be there a few days, maybe we can get together. Happy anniversary!i
Bobo, dinner tonight will be warmed-up stuffed peppers and warmed up soup from last night and a yummy chopped salad like last night's salad. This meal will be consumed after dh and I have either a vodka martini or a bourbon old-fashioned. I am looking forward to my cocktail.
I had a wonderful day today. I played golf and it was beautiful weather. I am not a person who can bear being cooped up inside day after day.

Oh thank you Carole! It seems I am addicted.
Nothing sounds good to me right now except your dinners! Chopped salad sounds good. Someone else's salad is always better thank your own, isn't it? I would also like a dark beer.

Carol- I have not had a vodka martini in ages. love them- extra dirty of course

Nancy, Happy Anniversary!
I actually weighted the duck today, and it is actually only 6 lbs. I apologize for my overestimation. It is, however, still a lot of cooked duck. This afternoon I made the veggie component of a ragu, and I have now thrown in about 5 lbs of the duck and will let it simmer for 30 minutes. One portion will be left out for the husband and the rest I will freeze. Tonight, I am taking the remaining pound of duck and making a hash for dinner. Will serve with a poached egg on top.
Tomorrow, I leave for Portland, OR.... so Mr. 02143 will be on his own. It will be eating out of the pots and bachelor food all week, I expect. Will be home on Wednsday.

I had to make this smaller.
My nephew Richie just graduated from the USMC.

Michelle, you can request a wheelchair or those people that drive around like a golf cart when you book the flight, it should be on the web site, we did for DH when we traveled to England.

Auntie congratualation on your anniversary!
Michelle, nice looking man.
Susan have fun on your trip!
Bobo Can you be hypnotized before the MRI? I did that once for stage fright and it worked really well.
You are as bad a cook as I am. It's genetic. I used to be embarrassed to post my recipes....ie "I put bananas and dried cranberries in the Cherrios today"..., but no more!
Ps why is Lizzy, my daughter, and your neice, suddenly being so nice, bringing me bagels and coffee in the morning and wanting to watch nature shows before we go to work. What's up? Any ideas? She actually said, can we make this a ritual? She actually buys them :O
0 -
That is suspicious. She must want to borrow the car. I have never trusted Lizzie since I found a cigarette hole in my cashmere twin set the weekend she came to stay.
I was once a very good cook. But now I have two jobs and plus nothing sounds good to me. And plus I am worried.
Hypnosis is not likely. Once I was pretty holistic. And I still have some residual holistic elements. But I just put blue streaks in my hair today. Granted, the color was vegan -- no animal testing. But better living through chemicals may be my motto for the MRI. I have cleared my schedule.
Stage fright? Am playwright. Thanks so much for appearing in all my early plays! You have obviously made me what I am today.
