So...whats for dinner?

Eric.. 41 miles = how many hours? Here 25 miles = about 1 hour (or more) in traffic .... you do the math...

starting the day with half of a large bottle of maple syrup poured on the rug. Looks like I will be cleaning and washing rugs today. Grrrrrrr.

Laurie: Started my day with both kids -- ages 7 and 8 -- having wet the bed. Lots of drinks at camp plus a watermelon. DD wears "night underpants" but she didn't put them on. DS too lazy to go to toilet. Room was a cesspool -- DD's mattress awash in pee.

Oh Laurie, not a good way to start the day.
Carole, your trip sounds wonderful. I think I would like RV travel.
2nd, love your new pic!
Tonight is another DH request, turkey dinner. I'll fix turkey cutlets on the grill. He requested mashed potatoes AND dressing, even though I told him to pick ONE carb. I'll probably fix a small amount of dressing just for him. I don't care that much about it. I'd rather have the grilled asparagus. I have a partial pkg of cranberries frozen that I may even make a compote of. Nothing like Thanksgiving in June!0 -
Oh, your DH is so cute to ask for that! You'd better crank up the A/C... I'd be so overheated if I ate that big dinner..

Bobo, it's not going to be as big as he thinks lol. Small amounts of everything. Turkey and asparagus will be cooked on the grill, dressing in the crockpot and potatoes on the stovetop.

Went to the big Ft. Worth yesterday prob. for the last time until early August at least that's the plan. At TJs bought only froz. leeks and the fruit jelly candies I love plus some fancy salami for bean flatbreads. Very proud of myself. Half Price Books - soup in the crockpot CB, veg. CB and old Cooking Lt. mag. Tonight will be meatloaf; need to get it started soon. Going to 101-102 today with high humidity. Makings for big pasta salad for tomorrow to last a couple of days. Heat breaking and good chances of rain next week.
Laurie and Bobo you both have your hands full. My DM told the story of the whole can of baby powder I poured on the floor entertaining my DB and she hurt her back sliding on it on the wood floor. Laurie at least your rug goes in the washer. Not so sure about Bobo DD's mattress LOL. Thank goodness for plastic sheets. I used to travel to inlaws with flannel pads for DD at that age.
Laurie love the special days with your boys. What great memories.
Carole - sounds like a great start to your summer.
Sounds like most of you in the mid sections of the country don't need car washes. Just park outside. One of our watering days is Sunday until 10am, after 6pm. Hard to water and get ready for church. At least for now it does not restrict soaker hoses.

Dressing in the crockpot is smart! I would welcome that recipe, if you have one..

Bobo: http://www.myrecipes.com/m/recipe/cornbread-dressing-50400000107589/
I use all turkey stock instead of the cream of chicken soup and chicken broth, and my own bread instead of the herb stuffing mix. I add my own herbs then. Of course the salt content is greatly reduced so you may have to adjust. It's pretty tasty and even gets crusty on the sides as if it were baked.
Luv, I admire your restraint. You must have been wearing earplugs so as not to hear those windmill cookies ;-)0 -
Nancy - LOL. I walked very quickly and had an agenda. Spent wayyy too much last 2 weeks in town so needed to exercise budget restraint. Also it was getting late and I didn't want to get stuck in traffic. I need to try to make them; I've bookmarked several recipes.
Thanks for the dressing recipe. Love dressing but not something I practice enough to get good at it.

Bobo- You did not wake up to wonderfulness either! Unfortunately the rug is a 8x10 so I can't throw it in the washer. Hope you had the special sheets on the mattresses!
I have cleaned both bathroom, vacuumed both floors and dusted them and washed the wood floors. Now it is lunch time. This afternoon I will wash the rug with my rug cleaner. I hope it comes out and doesn't ruin the rug cleaner! Stupid but I felt I had to get all the filth up everywhere before tackling the rug. At least the boys have not been fighting so far today and played great while I just spent the last 3 hours+ cleaning.

Laurie - Do you have something to drape it over or hang it on and spray it with water if you think it will take it. You need a break this afternoon. Hope the boys stay quiet for you.
Seems our water is almost out; just a trickle. DH checked our meter and its not turning so not on our side. Probably main break somewhere. This is a large water co-op. I think DH was paying water bill on way to work. Hopefully he will ask and call me. Thankfully no great water usage today but do want shower later.

Laurie - teaching and tutoring from 9 a.m to 7 p.m. -- jealous of your cleaning frenzy! Plus, I admire it. I worked so much this week -- haven't really had time to do real cleaning. Just doing vacuuming, kitchen, etc. Just 'keeping my head above water'!
Good advice from luvmygoats!

Bobo- I am usually just maintaining too. The house needed it badly. With the warmer temps it seems me and the boys are always off doing things and the house has been neglected. They were not too pleased that we did not go do anything fun today. They built a fort in DS1's room and managed just fine. I just finished washing the rug and it came out great. I am not a huge fan of my Kirby, but it does clean carpets really well.

Because I was running out of time, I took our car to a repair shop because it was overheating when driven at high speed. They could not find a problem, so I took it to the dealer. They could not find the problem either.
Both charged me "diagnostic fees"
So, last week I "dug" into it and discovered a bad radiator. Last night, I replaced the radiator. It's fine now.
I'm out two "diagnostic fees" and the time to do the work, plus the time to shuttle the car around.....sigh...

Bummer, Eric.
Love dressing but it is so carb.
Hate cleaning house. But have to occasionally. I tell myself when I'm cleaning that it's exercise.
This morning was delightfully cool in Detroit Lakes, MN. I almost needed a long sleeve when I was sitting outside drinking my coffee. We played golf at a pretty public course. It was so nice NOT to have perspiration dripping down my legs and glueing underwear to body.
Dinner tonight is warmed up spaghetti and green salad with avocado and blue cheese.
Bobo, what do you teach?
Ditto to Laurie's hope that Michelle is enjoying her trip.

Carole, I am loving your trip -- the camper, the cool weather, your dinners. I love avocado! Love everything. Living vicariously through your trip! I teach critical theory. In truth, I teach whatever my bosses tell me to teach... sometimes I learn things and then teach them. Studying Attic Greek at the college, post-graduate, but it is not likely I will ever teach it. Might do some translating.
I made vegan broccoli 'cheese' soup in the Vitamix today. It was terrific! Comes out of the Vitamix steaming hot. I must say, I continue with liquid diet, if you can call that soup a liquid... Eric, so sorry about your car! Hate that kind of thing.
Laurie, mine build forts too!

Sorry, Eric, that sucks. And I guess that's two mechanic shops that are off your list! you're lucky you can Fix it youself. Much love.

Laurie, I feel your pain! I really wanted to be a smart alec and ask if you started out the day sweetly, but I know that's not the PC thing to say.... My gosh, you got all that done - and before lunch? Puts me to shame.
And Bobogirl, so sorry for the start to your day! Almost makes me want to suggest putting down a shower curtain liner on the floor and play in-door camping so less to clean up (while the mattress dries out.
Luv, hope you fare well in the heat.
Nancy, thanks! Want to try the crockpot dressing recipe too. Looks yummy!

Carol, contrast your temps with the ones here. This weekend, it's forecast to be 117F (near 50C).
Bobo, two beds??? and Laurie, the carpet...wow... I think I'd be more annoyed about the loss of the syrup than the need to clean the carpet! Question....If I bring some blue chalk line chalk (the kind that warns the user that there is no known way to remove the stains) for the kids, can I come over? :-)
Bobo, I read that your biopsy came back "clean"...that's a relief. I hope things are otherwise settling down for you.
Oh, the 41 miles, each way. I feel good when I can average 35mph. So, it's an hour and 10 minutes or so on the "good" days and 90 minutes on the not so good days.
As for the auto repair shops. I'm not sure about any of them any more. I don't like working on daily driver cars because I'm under pressure to "get it done now". I prefer things when I can work on it at my leisure. But, when I can, I do my own work on the theory that I don't otherwise make $95 per hour. "Car fixin" was another of the things I did to pay for college, so it's not a big deal, except that it cuts into the free time.
Speaking of car stuff. On the way home from the grocery store, the car started feeling funny. We pulled over on the side street about 500 yerds from home---bulge in the tire tread. So I'll be changing a tire before I take it to the tire store. All of the tires were within about 3 months of needing replacement anyway (70,000 miles on them).
Oh, one more thing. My new sourdough starter seems to be pretty active. I put it in a jar and "fed" it. It "barfed" all over the countertop. It was much easier to to clean than bedding or carpets, and it means that it should work well for making bread.
0 -
So, Eric, getting the picture of the sourdough starter barfing on the counter - too funny! So does that mean that the dogs were up on the counter licking it up? Then there'd be a big icky mess to clean.
It was nice of the car to have its problems so close to home, not en route to/from home. It this stuff has to happen, better it happen close to home (or even work). I had a brand new car (not even owned one week) literally die in the work parking lot. Good thing my manager helped me out diagnosing that it was a major problem and not to drive (officially diagnosed as "extraneous metal in the engine cell". Big whig mechanics from Toyota had to check it out since it had less than 1000 miles put on it. Refused to accept it and got a newer car out of the deal).
Bobo, that's real cleaning. It's not fake, you've working so I think you're doing a great job. Especially being summer and not having time to yourself.
Carol, envying your cool weather. Easier to put on a light sweater or jacket than living in a dry heat sauna

Hi everyone! We're home after our epic trip to Kansas City and Tunica - 3400 miles! I've read most everything but not trying to answer...too much to do today. Hope everyone is doing well and I'll be catching back up with you over the next few days.

Eric, I learned the hard way about starter. I now put mine on a plastic mat when it's out. It's hell to get that stuff out of grout.
Laurie, this is where having dogs comes in handy. That syrup would have been gone in no time without your lifting a finger. I used to never have to sweep the kitchen floor
Has anyone heard from Susan? Haven't "seen" her here in a while.
Michelle, hope tunica was kind to you lol!0 -
2nd, many thanks for the kind words. That shower curtain "camping" idea is a great one. I've got an extra cloth shower curtain -- an old one -- that will probably not make our move to our new house. It would be great for that.
Eric, many thanks to you also. Laughing at your blue line chalk joke! Laurie, if I bring over a pack of Sharpies, can I play with your kids? No, wait. You already have Sharpies!
Making myself laugh! Not 'turning a corner,' though. Still not eating. It's only been a week after. Another doc thinks the GYN may have punctured my uterus..
0 -
Bobogirl - where do you go now with that information? (((HUGZZZ))). Do something nice for yourself today.
0 -
Bobo yikes!

Bobo, I still don't know what you teach! LOL! What is critical theory? Sure hope that dr. is wrong and you don't have a punctured uterus.
Eric, my dh is a "fixer" of malfunctioning things, too. You can judge the difficulty of the job by the language! One tough job he took on a few years ago was replacing the ice-maker mechanism in our refrigerator/freezer. It had only been broken for at least 5 yrs. I just bought plastic ice trays and emptied the cubes into the ice-maker. At any rate he had enough cuss words to get the job done and the ice-maker unit is working fine!
We had planned to bike around Big Detroit Lake today but it is very windy so we drove to town and walked on the path that runs along the shoreline of the lake. Then had breakfast at Mainstreet Cafe. Then we did what all rv'ers do--shopped at Walmart.
Tonight's dinner will be a brown rice casserole that will use up leftover rice. Other ingredients: pork sausage, broccoli, mushrooms, celery, cheese, and a little chicken broth. And tossed salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado.
Again today the a/c is resting and the windows and door are open. Wimbledon is on tv and this afternoon the women's US Open golf. There are some good young American golfers in the LPGA which in recent years has turned into the Asian Women's Tour.
Laurie and Bobo, I enjoy your escapades with your kids.

Michelle, if you had gone to Tunica a little earlier, we could have gotten together for a drink. We were there on the afternoon and evening of June 18th at Sam's Town Rv Park, which is very nice and charges $13 for full hookups on a paved, level site. Tunica is usually our first day's destination when we're heading north for the summer.
I've been missing Susan, too.

I had the sourdough starter in a plastic cup and, yes, one time, the dog managed to swipe it. Fortunately I had been making bread and could use a piece of bread to "seed" a new starter. The dog was unpleasant to be around that night and the next day. The dog would squeak and she would jump up and whirl around to try to catch what was making the noise behind her....we would all have to leave for awhile...... The EPA is probably still investigating it! :-)
Bobo, I hope you're getting that (puncture) possibility checked out. Not that I'd know, but it doesn't sound like something to not do something about.
I don't get all grumpy at the thing I'm fixing. i figure the difficulty of the fix is more the design engineer's fault than the device itself. My working my way through college fixing things has, I think, made me a better engineer because when I'm thinking of how to design something, I'm also keeping the maintenance folks' needs in mind.
Welcome back Michelle......sounds like you had a good trip...
Eric

Bobo, yikes! This run of not-so-good luck needs to stop RIGHT NOW! Calling on the Universie to send only goodness, love and positive luck in Bobo's direction NOW.
Thanks for my laughs: remembering Laurie's son and the markers (bet she didn't think it was funny). At least not permanent. Funny picture of Eric's dog! Promise not to call the EPA, hopefully it's all better now.
Hoping the rest of your Friday is wonderful all, and let me be the first to wish you all a fantastic, cool (in termperature) weekend! The closets are calling and Mom and Dad just left. Here comes the white tornado (hope that isn't politically incorrect, no offense meant, just remembering the old TV commercial)
