JuneBug, my husband has chronic kidney disease. His last round of medicine was lasix 40mg. His legs started swelling really bad, right more than the left. So much fluid built up on the right leg that he developed blisters. Long story short a second diuretic was added. His legs are just about back to normal. Something to talk to your doc about adding a second med.

Lover, is your hubby back home yet? How is/was his trip? I apologize if you have mentioned this. I have a nine year old MacBook Pro and one that is a year old. Big difference in reading the screen. If I have to work on my old computer for any length of time, I start getting a headache.
Chevy, so glad you're back. I really missed your wisdom and humor. I try not to talk or do things around my hubby that irritate him but it's hard when we would share so much. We will be married 44 years this month. His health isn't the greatest any more and I think he has trouble accepting that. He was under a lot of pressure at work (retired once from the government) and finally retired from this job. Hopefully, that will help his moodiness.

Susan - Thank you for the explanation and you're right, we each have our own journey with this crappy disease. But like Shep said there is such a spirit of camaraderie here that it is hard to accept that we will have to face the loss of anyone, ever. I am glad to know you are going against the odds so far. You seem so strong, so busy, and most times so upbeat that it is hard to imagine you any other way.
Kathindc - I don't know how long the Biofreeze will be available through Amazon because the manufacturer is making retailer's like CVS stop selling it and remove it from their shelves by mid-August. Apparently the manufacturer wants it only available through Physical Therapy, Chiropractic & Massage Clinics, plus some Day Spas. I get it from my P.T.'s office.

Ok, my simple thoughts on the movie. (It is so hard to transform my thoughts to writing.)The one symbolism I find interesting is water:
- water in Mamaji's lungs when he was born
- Mamaji told Pi during swimming lesson that a mouthful of water won't kill you, but panic will
- Pi drinking holy water in the church
- The tiger's name was supposed to be Thirsty and not Richard Parker
- Pi trying to survive on the open sea
Water represents both life and death. Living things can not survive without water. But, water can kill also. You can drown in water or die from drinking too much water or drinking sea water. I think human naturally thirst for truth. Aren't we always searching or researching? When we found truth, our thirst for it is quenched. You are going to think I am crazy, but I think water also represents a person's faith. Putting our faith in the right thing will preserve/spare us and in the wrong thing, it will destroy/harm us.
Did you notice that of all the instructions from the survival manual, 'Don't lose hope' was mentioned more than once? it is so important when we face challenges. I think when we lose hope, we give up fighting. My DH thought that Pi was foolish for sparing the tiger's life. Even though RP was a danger to Pi, it's companionship was more important to him. He admitted that tending to RP helped him to stay focus and gave him his life purpose. Hope, companionship, and purpose helped him to stay alive.
I interpret the ending of the movie differently not because I don't believe in miracles. The human heart is deceiving. When put in a desperate situation, the evil deeds will easily surface. We all have the potential to kill. There are so many things I would love to discuss, but it is way pass my bedtime.

Kathi, thank you for asking about DH. I will pick him up this afternoon from the airport after church. He got a lot of insect/mosquito bites. More than half of the team has/had diarrhea. I am sure I will hear more about the trip from him. I love it when he goes on mission trip. He comes back a better person each time plus I don't have to worry too much about meal prep. I am actually typing on the MacBook Pro with Retina display. It is nice! Too bad it will leave with my daughter to college in two weeks

lover, at the end of that movie I just went WHAT!! I love deep thinking movies, but not ones I have to figure out. Like moby dick.....if you want to wrote about good and evil....I am all in..love it....but when you represent it as a whale and person, that's all I see.. Haha...I'm a bit blavk and white I guess ??

JazzyJune, KathinDC that is so interesating about Biofreeze being withdrawn to specialist only retailers, I hope that doesn't happen here, my Mum and I find it great! Here and in the UK it is sold over the counter in any pharmacy and is not expensive. So if you happen to know anyone coming over to either here or the UK you could ask them to bring you back some.......

I can sing that song like Louis Armstrong and Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. Ok,hopefully this doesn't sound dark, but I told my family that I would like to have this song played at my Celebration of Life. DH woke me up. He called from Houston to say he missedmy voice. He told me he wanted to call me earlier, but he waited so that he wouldn't wake me up too early. It was 6:00 am. Isn't that sweet? He is in the airport waiting for the transfer flight to California. Going back to bed. It's only 6:30 am. Still too early to be awake. It's Sunday. I still have a few hours of shut eyes left before church. Not like Ms Chevy who wakes up before the roosters. She is probably have an early lunch right now. Have fun with Elena.

This one's for you Ms. Chevy!I went to a new Church with a neighbor today. It was awesome. Pastor gave an amazing sermon and the worship time was very uplifting too. This neighbor & I live in the same building and have for the past 6 years. However, last Friday on my way home from volunteering, because it was soooo HOT, I wasn't gonna cook, so I stopped at Burger King. Haven't been there in like 3 years. Anyway, I meet these two older ladies and as we conversed it turns out that they are close friends of my neighbor and they all go to this Church. Small world.

Ms. Chevy, I can't wait to see the picture of your recycled patio set. As a matter of fact, I have a recycled solid wood coffee table I picked up from my neighbor's front yard that he was trying to get rid. It has a lot of scratches on it, but I don't mind. Maybe I will sand it down and stain it when I feel creative.
DH is home and is upstairs napping. It was a fruitful trip. Met and bonded with several people. They helped build four homes. Majority of the homes there were damaged by the earthquake in April. Many are living in tents.30-40% left Muisne and many dogs were left behind. DH said it was really sad to see a lot strays. I'm glad DD didn't go with him because she would want to take them all home.

Shepk, The Life of Pi brought back the memory of when we escaped VN in 1978, three years after the fall. I was only nine at the time. There were 64 people on the boat that Dad built. I don't know the exact measurement, but there was enough room for everyone to lie down and walk around. We were not packed in like sardines. Thank God! Because we lived in the suburb in the South and not in a fishing village, dad had to be discreet when the boat was being built. I don't remember how long he was away to take care of this. My mom and five of us kids traveled to the middle part of VN to meet Dad. My youngest brother was not quite two yet. I didn't know we were leaving the country until my mom told me the morning of our escape. I didn't get a chance to say good bye to my friends and neighbors. We left in a haste. I still remember hiding in the field as if it was yesterday with my aunt and her five kids. My three year old brother started to cry because he was hungry. Mom had to put her hand over his mouth to muffle the sound of his crying while my aunt frantically was looking for food. I was scare to death not only of whatever creatures that might be lurking or possibly slithering in the dark, but also of the guards with their riffles running over to our hiding spot because they could hear my brother. I thought that we all were going to jail for sure at that moment. I think his wailing was drowned by the sound of the crashing waves nearby because the soldiers didn't stop to investigate and continued marching . I will share with you more later. Got to get ready to go over to our friends' house for dinner.

wow. What a time you must have gone through. I am so spoiled living in this country my whole life. We forget what people go through, what their normal is. Wonderful how you and hubby give back so much. Happy you came through the experience to be a wonderful person that we all got to meet on this thread :

Sensi, be sure to have infusion center to provide you with frozen mittensand socks when you are receiving Taxotere. If the center does not provide it. You should bring your own bags of frozen peas to cool down your fingers and toes in order to minimize the chemo damages to extremities.

Loverly: War is tragic. Record some of those escape and boat people oral history from your parents and aunt for yourself, siblings and children. You probably were too young to remember the whole events.

sensi, keep a close eye on your lungs. I wanted to stay on as long as I could, accomplished that, but also damaged left lung. Got it back inflating well last summer, thank God, .....I couldn't get up or down steps without sitting down on them. Never told doc, I can be a rock head. My advice, don't be a Rick head
