Lookie your gardens are beautiful I can so see myself walking throught them.

Junie, Remember when I said they should have considered a clot.. welllll, now I'm just patting myself on the back, except you likely missed the post and I'm an ass.

    1. a d-dimer will be positive after surgery, what I don't remember is how many weeks it will be positive. So, if they tell you it's positive ask the doc" What increment of time is a d-dimer positive after surgery , to really indicate that it's positive?" I gave you the right info one leg being larger than the other, but forget how long a d--dimer can be positive /yet a false negative. ......Good lord Junie LOL patting butts

Good Lord, Just when I think I'm caught up theirs oddles of posts. Bypassing racoons

Hiya Sas, I went back 3 pages and couldn't find Susan talking in tongues, though her typing is excellent Winking. I must have missed that one.

I did see Susan talking about Randy Travis though,

Susan you were right, it WAS Randy Travis, the refrain you remembered is from a song called Three Wooden Crosses

"It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you,
It's what you leave behind you when you go"

Susieque, okay you have a counselor who's on the same page. Elder abuse is under Adult Protective Services so we're on the same page. The reason I suggested you call is you guys don't have a relationship. ERGO, (*&%E#@ him. Once Adult Protective Services are called and a caseworker is assigned with an eval done. Your brother is under the microscope for responsibility. Forces him to make responsible choices, b/c they will be eval'g the situation. If he doesn't meet the Social Workers plan, he actually can have legal problems........

You have made peace with it. You can do nothing to change the situation. That is a good place to be. I get that that isn't where you wanted to be with your mom. Bless her. But your brother is a total ass. TOTAL.

Chevy ~ That's the cat I need, the one holding the rifle pointed at the mouse hole! Our house backs up to a conservation area. The mice get huge! I live in coastal South Carolina. All kinds of wildlife here. Bears, deer, bobcats, cougars, coyotes, alligators, lizards, snakes, oh and wild boars too! I love the big fan on the fence in your garden! So many pretties to look at. Do you have to bring everything inside before winter comes?

Eeyore ~ I used the .22. I didn't want to make too big a hole! Yup, that's the baseboard. It's way in the back of my closet. Just need to patch it I reckon.

    Hey Meadow!

Kath ~ We only ever had a mouse in the house one other time. Marti was still a youngster and our elderly cats were oblivious. FHH set out traps. We "caught" Marti at least 7 times before the mouse got trapped. That dog really likes peanut-butter. I wasn't going to go through all that again!

Feline ~ "Cheeses"! Too funny! And the creature that was stirring 😂

Jazzy ~ Love your new "do" you posted a few pages back. For some reason I hadn't pictured you as a blond. It's funny what our minds decide when we try to imagine something or someone unseen. I feel bad for your friend with shingles but agree.......she needs to visit sometime else!

Mags ~ Thinking of you and hoping the baby kitty is making you smile 🐱

Susan ~ So sorry for your mom falling and getting hurt. Too bad the hospital didn't take some initiative and send a social worker to evaluate her home care/safety situation. I agree with Sas - make a report to Adult Protective Services. Your mom is not in a position to make clear decisions or fully care for herself. Your brother seems like he is in his own world and finds reasons to be angry with you no matter what. At least you could have the peace of mind that you did all that you could do. And sneak over there and nab that poor puppy! Finding your happiness is what is important now. Time to "retire" from being everyone else's primary caregiver. Surrounding yourself with positive people and doing things that make you happy - Hurray!

Sassy ~ Nope, haven't finished the closet yet. Still waiting for the layers of Lysol to dry! Hates yucky and germy stuff! Donnie's in trouble again? Uh-oh. Hope he just made a little ooops and that all will be well between you again. Rainy and cold in Florida? We get hot and sticky when it rains here in the summer. I think we've had a thunderstorm almost daily for the past 2 weeks. At least they blow by quickly.

    Condolences to 2TA

Sensi ~ Hoping you are doing okay and that you and Chance have been able to get some doggie park time together. 🐶

Loverly ~ Phew.....Glad that Pi is not "bad" for you. I just bought the book on Google Play.....I want to see what the differences between the movie and book are. Hoping for some more explanations too .

    hanley ~ Welcome!

Patty ~ Keeping you close in my prayers. May you be back home soon and always be pain free. (((hugs)))

    Good Night to All 🌚

Sas - according to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov the d-dimer will be elevated in hip & knee replacement patients about 7 days and decrease after that. They also said that in post-surgical patients the d-dimer blood test is a waste of resources and the patient should just be sent for radiological/ultrasound review if a thromboembolism is suspected. Hmmm!

Susan - So glad you're in a place where you accept that things with your Mother & Brother aren't gonna change on their own. Shep posted a really good saying recently. The one that says something like "A person can only throw rocks at you for so long, until you finally build a wall." Sas always has good advice. I agree with Shep in regards to you going and nabbing the puppy. Who would even think it was you? Use a really good disguise.

Anyway since Shep isn't answering my question tonight I'll just say goodnight again. Sleep well dear ladies. Until tomorrow.

    Lookie -

about puppy. Told my daughter I was going to take the dog for just one day, and pretend it ran away. I wish you could see her face when i talk about anything pertaining to my brother. And the ummmm, she gurgles out. My friend really wants mydog, so no trace of dog in my house. Innocent until proven guilty. Ha ha. So Claire asks me how many friends i have to take the future dogs? And there is my hiccup. Often we can't see our story clearly. So I ask, why would he buy another dog? And she calmly says to her mother, whom she perceives in all other situations as intelligent, why did he buy the first dog and give it to someone who can't take care of herself? Now I am like whaaaaat. So she continues, you always think he is going to make a logical reasonable decision. He doesn't think like anybody I have ever met.. Strange guy with probably many undiagnosed stuff. Definitely mental illness, on so many levels.

Susan3: eep. Mother. Brother. The only small comfort I can give is that I'd never give you the side eye because of the difference in our staging.

    Feline, have a blessed holiday!

JunieB, make sure they rule out chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Boy, that is a mouthful there! Why do they have to come up with such long medical terminology? Ms. Chevy, don't laugh because I know you can make up even better medical term.

JunieB ~ Listen to Loverly and Sas! Praying the swelling is just a temporary side effect from surgery. (((hugs))) I tried to write more last night but I fell asleep in front of the computer! Ack. I go through phases were I sleep at irregular and inconvenient intervals. I didn't get out of bed until 2:30 p.m. my time. Gotta make my tea and some breakfast and I'll be back. .......

Oh Sheppers, you're not getting off that easy! So you shot that River Rat, or whatever that was with your little 357 Magnum 4 barrel, twin-trigger, with the blower on it? The one with the rotating carburetor & the bullet-proof sun-roof? I STILL laugh every time I think of you.... ! And all we have around here, are Foxes, Raccoon's, Crows and pet Chickens!

I bought that "fan" about 30 years ago, and it has had 4 different coats of paint on it. I'm leaving it white.... Winking

Susan! Me too! I'll bet that was a dead mouse, and her cat brought it in to her! My cat brought us in a dead Robin one time! WHILE MY MOM came to visit!!! I found no humor in that one. And Sheppers (I mean Annie) probably "accidentally" shot a hole in there whilst chasing a snake... That room probably has 1000 holes in it by now!

Oh My Gosh Susan! Yeah! Can't wait to hear that she's finally gonna be with you.

Feline - Have a great time on Holiday! Send pics please.

Thanks Loverly, I didn't see your post before I went for ultrasound, but will read your link. Ultrasound came out negative by the way. Apparently the elevated d-Dimer is related to my cancer somehow. The normal high end of a d-dimer is <0.5. Mine is 1.05. But, US tech said that unless it reaches the level of 7.0 - 9.0 the likelihood of a clot (P.E. or otherwise) is low. So glad I won't need to take blood thinners. Yeah!

Spoke to bus driver with the 2 dogs who got into the rumble with the raccoons (2 Adults, 1 Toddler). Both dogs are home and doing good. Will need healing time. Schnauzer got 6-7 punctures and Westie only got 2 punctures. I'm so glad.

Chevy - I think 56 1/2 is too late to start looking for a man who'll ruin my lipstick. Plus, been single toooo long.

Hey Sheppie - I was up until 4:00 a.m. this morning and woke up at 8:20, then dawdled in bed until 10:20. I think it's nap time.

I'm a long time lurker and have always admired this thread for the deep caring friendships you all have for each other. Today I feel compelled to write a little bit to Loveroflife.

Loveroflife, During much of my 25 year teaching career I was an ESL teacher, mostly high school, but some adult school and college. The story you shared of your escape from Vietnam brings many memories of students I taught who had very similar stories. I especially remember one high school boy who told of his escape. Many times he and his family pushed off from the shore, but the boats were not seaworthy and they had to return. Finally the parents decided to stay behind so that their children would have a better chance. He and his siblings made it to Thailand where they stayed for some long time. By the time he was in my class, his parents were still in Vietnam. My heart went out to him, in fact I wanted to take him home and make him my own. Of course I didn't. Those years after the fall of Saigon were filled with stories like yours and his.

I've always wondered what happened to my former students. We moved out of the area when my dh retired, so I never knew if they were able to accomplish their dreams. Reading about you becoming a nurse warms my heart and gives me hope for "my" students. Let me congratulate you on your achievements, I know just how difficult your transition into American culture must have been. Your admirer, Jan

Susan nice to hear happy news are you just training the puppy, or is he yours to keep.

Junnie hopefully the swelling will come down

Surgery went well,I feel great. I'm tethered to the bed and can't move far. Only complaint is a build up of gas, I would like to go for a walk. I probably will be able to go home Sunday

Shep, I love the dressed up raccoons! Purple is my favorite color! DH was standing behind me and asked when I was able to get clothes on our raccoons? He's a hoot!

I've been pretty wired since getting home from chemo. I'm hoping to fall asleep soon. Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do. I love all the pictures, they make me smile and laugh and that makes me drossy!

    Hugs to All

Hi everybody . I've come back onto the site after quite a few years being gone but I found out this week that I have stage four bone Mets. I feel like I was doing pretty good until tonight and all of a sudden tonight it's really hard ! I am having a lot of anxiety and just almost like grief has anyone else experienced that ! Crying that's just almost uncontrollable and extreme fear I know I'm probably having an anxiety attack ! Why do these things wait until 12 o'clock at night to hit like this !!!

  • Loveroflife
    Loveroflife Member Posts: 4,243

Hi there, Forward. It is good to see you checking in to let us know how you are doing. It must have been a long surgery. Oooh the gas....very uncomfortable. Never take a toot for granted. Drink warm water rather than cold and ask for simethicone. How are you resting with the trauma on both your front and back? Praying for speedy healing and comfort.

JunieB, yay for negative ultrasound result. Blood thinners are a pain.

Gracie, I think many experience what you're experiencing. Crying is helpful and sometimes you just need to get it out. You might get more support on a stage IV thread, but I'm sending hugs and wishes for peacefulness. If the anxiety keeps up, ask for something to help.

Thank you Wren it helps just knowing I'm not alone. I'm widowed and I live alone so I really don't have anyone to talk to. And I can't tell my friends because they are all pretty upbeat people and don't want to burden my kids or cause them more worry than they already have. All of that has left me feeling very very alone

Hi Gracie, a few of our friends here have mets to bone. Jazzyjunebug and Shepkitty will drop in shortly. I think it is human to be anxious and grieve the betrayal of your body. The anxiety is worst when everyone is quiet and asleep.
