INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Got a scam call today "The IRS is suing you, You must call this number now" IRS only communicates by mail
0 -
Sassy, do you have a sign on your behind saying "Kick me"? I never get stuff like that
0 -
I think scammers think Florida is full of elderly targets who might fall for it.
Do not bother to put your number on the "do not call list". I think they sold our number. We have quit answering our land line until someone starts to leave a message - and it's someone we want to talk to. The free furnace duct people leave messages!

Susan, OH MY GOSH! Elena is sooooo cuuuute! What a sweetheart!

Love the furnace duct scammers. We have radiator heat. I just start laughing at them. I've read that they just do the phone numbers in sequential order so you can get hit that way.
Sas, if you gift the crystal to your friends when they visit and they fly, let them know that it will most likely trigger an alert. It's the amount of lead in it that will do it. DS and DDIL had that happen when I had given them some and they had it in their carry-on. When I used film, I would put it in a lead lined bag. First time I flew after 9-11 the bag triggered a search. A supervisor told me to take the bag out of my carry-on so they wouldn't have to rummage through it and mess up what I had in it as the guy doing the search was tossing things out as I was trying to tell him what to pull out. Bless her heart for overhearing me. She told the guy to listen to me as I was trying to let him know what to look for. She ended up doing it as she had to open every film canister.
Oh, the babies are growing up! Each one is so adorable. Can't believe Evie and Elena are a year already. Susan, the birthday cake looks like it was crocheted and yummy!
Lover, your niece is changing in appearance already. Her bunny costume looks like a fleece snow suit. I'm sweating looking at her. Your expression on the water slide is priceless. I've been known to burn food in a pot or two. DD2 taught me a trick. Boil a small amount of water, about a 1/2 inch worth, turn it off after it comes to a full boil and sprinkle baking soda on it. I let it cool down. Usually takes it off on the first try but there has been a time or two where I had to repeat the process. I guess DD will be finishing her first year at college soon. Hope she is doing well.
Junie, is Kirby home? You have a wonderful trainer in that she was willing to watch him for you. Hope the sleep study went well.
Mommy be careful with open windows when pollen is in the air. Ours is real bad here. The cars look green for it. I was on allergy shots for almost eight years as I have the three outdoor ones and three indoor ones. Come May I will have been off them a year.
A big wave and hello to those I missed.

Kathy want a great clue re: lead content and air travel. I can figure out a different glass gift. So would hate to cause them a problem when the Magic cupboard has so much more. I gifted a milk glass picture and 8 glasses to my cousins DIL. She carried them through to home. She was so excited about the stuff, but she was going to Canada. It makes it so much harder sending stuff to England.. Great advice.
Wenchie, no I don't have a kick me sign LOL. The IRS call is a national scam, that unknowing people answer return the call. Put it here simply to state that it is moving on.
Wren Helloooooooo, you are right we in Florida are targets....... How's all the animals that you have and work with?
One of my phone problems is BCO folks call from all over the country. and have ID concealed. Toughy do I answer it or ignore. Wren your idea to let it go to answering machine is a very good approach as scam and telemarketers won't leave a message

Well windows are shut for today. No more mild temps the rest of the week.

Sassy- yes I do remember! I am glad you have your credit locked down. It is a bit of work to unlock it, but now no worries about if your info gets hacked/stolen which has happened to so many at this point, including moi.
And I have had those tax evasion threat messages too on my home phone. They are common this time of the year. I also get ones that the county Sheriff has a warrant for my arrest for some reason for another.
My older neighbor fell prey to something recently with one of the utility companies who said her utilities had not been paid up and they were going to shut her off. She gave them a card and then immediately realized it was a scam and got her stuff shut down.
These people are everywhere working hard all the time to take your information and use it before you figure things out. Be safe everyone!

Jazzy, I had a call telling me the sheriff has a warrant out for my arrest also. I told him "Great! He already knows where I live so just tell him to come get me!"He hung up on me! How rude!
0 -
Jazzy, yes, these scammers are everywhere, everywhere. Wish it were a joke, but it isn't. For the times I got scammed. Not sure how they would have turned out differently if I wasn't proactive about checking my accounts daily or every other day. Plus, that one credit card I have only 400$ limit on, I use it for Amazon &Phone buying. If they try to hit it, it's for a modest hit. I know I'm not responsible for a bogus hit, but the max of 400$ makes me feel more comfortable. LOL.
Wenchie and Jazzy what is the point of a call saying the sherrif has a warrant? What are they trying to accomplish? My twin who was a cop described a scam that was called a "pigeon drop". Is that the scenario?

Had a lovely talk with Shep. but can't relay much.......bad me......went to dinner with family and had lot's of wine................

I work in a job that has to deal with people that fall prey to these scammers, and some of the scammers as well.
Bottom line:
Never answer an email with personal or security info, or use a link provided on an email to sign into any account. Go directly to the website you need.
Never tell anyone your passwords, your personal info, the info of anyone in your family
Never provide your travel info details to the public in a way they anyone could use it
Keep in close contact with traveling family members so you know where they are
Remember that the IRS, law enforcement, bill collectors, etc, will never ask you to buy gift cards to pay your debt, or to bail someone out of jail, or pay for surgery, etc, and should never ask for a CC over the phone (yes, people have paid for things in a panic with gift cards to online stores, and gotten scammed)
Always ask for a name and number to call them back at as well as a written invoice, etc. They will usually hang up.
Never open links on an email that friends and family send you without checking with them first
When you have any doubt, hang up, etc. and verify before moving forward on anything. If you find that someone is trying to scam you, contact local police ASAP

The scam calls that I hate the most are from Card Member Services and from Tech Support from Microsoft. I was getting these calls at least 5 or more times a week. I don't get the Tech Support calls anymore since I ripped the scammer on the other end a new one by telling them I knew they were scammers.

Sassy- the sheriff warrant for the arrest threat is usually something tied to city or county business, like you have not paid your property taxes, sales tax to the state (if you have a business, etc.) There must be enough people behind on that stuff that they are able to scare at least some people into handing over some money somehow.
Glad you are keeping in touch with Shep and hope she feels better every day

Too many elderly people in my state have been targeted by the IRS scam or some other scam. It is so sad to see this on my news happening to these people

My son answered a call: "Do you know what the 'do not call list' is? This number is on it. If you call again you will be reported." Result: hang up on other end plus no more calls.
We have stopped answering the land line until someone we know starts to leave a message. I want to keep the line because 911 has your address from it and DH has heart problems. Otherwise it's pretty useless. The windows repair people finally gave up on us. Wish the people who think we stayed at their resort would do the same. I'm a big skeptic anyway. DH, who was a salesman, is probably more vulnerable to a good pitch. Plus he doesn't believe anything I tell him. I would have to get DS to tell him.

The only good thing about going for rads every day....I get to walk among these beautiful roses. Five more sessions to go. Fatigue setting in. Slept well last night, but all I want to do is sleep.

My friend took this pic of me and the Easter Bunny....silly rabbit!

Just hope Elmer Fudd wasn't lurking in the bushes huntin' "that scwewy wabbit"

Sassy, when they called me about a warrant they said I owed thousands for an unpaid ticket from 25 years ago. Give me a break. Idiots. I won't answer the land line either unless it's one of my docs. I let my DH do that. He likes to video the calls and put them on YouTube for everyone to get a good laugh. He'll keep them on the line for some time as most can't hang up without permission from a supervisor. The Microsoft calls, he pretends he can't find the key they want him to click on. One guy called DH an a-hole and had to wait to get permission to hang up first. I usually get a glass of wine and watch the comedy routine.

Sassy, my MO office called me yesterday and wanted me to put my f/u appointment out until late June. I said "Hell no! He said 6 weeks I'll be there in 6 weeks!" They scheduled patients during MOs vacation time. I said my time is as important to me as MO's time is to him. I told them to schedule me before he goes on vacation! So they did! Geeesh! I saw my RO this morning for a skin check. Everything is healing nicely and there is a lot of fresh new skin developing. He also thinks my MO misspoke about how my visits should be scheduled. RO thinks MO was thinking one thing but said another? I'll see in 5 weeks. If not then a second option will be requested.
Waving hello to everyone 👋

Lita, you look gorgeous with the Easter Bunny!
Wenchi, glad your skin is healing nicely. Man what you were describing had me worried.
Oh the phone scammers, I love playing mind games with them. What bugs me is when you say hello and it takes them several seconds before you get a real human. In a very agitated state, I ask them why did it take them so long to acknowledge me. Unnerves them. That's usually a sign that a computer is dialing the number for them. When someone wants to try and sell me something I always ask them that I don't buy anything when I get a cold call on the product. Leaves them confused. I had one "tech support" guy so flustered that not even five minutes later I get a call from someone else and said your friend just called me. He actually hung up. Then a "supervisor" called and I told him that I'll tell him the same thing I said to his employee, "This is a do not call number and it will be reported." Come to think of it, they haven't called here for a while. It's sad that some people fall prey to them though.
Lover, good news no autoimmune problems. The dry eyes I'm thinking are age and avid reading related. The dry mouth my dentist's oral hygienist caught last March. Without so much as coming right out and saying it, my rheumatologist thinks my PCP didn't know how to diagnose the one blood test that came back a good 5 times higher than normal. One more reason why I've got to get a new doc. There have been several things he has said/done that have me thinking it is time for him to retire.
Sas, hope you had a good visit with Stephen. I don't know. I think cut Donnie a break since he's working so hard on the reno. Maybe a gentle or not so gentle reminder that he is neglecting you. Now if he doesn't get the hint a that, hmmm. Your call. Any more good thrifting finds?
MOmmy. glad you had no family stress on Easter. Yes, sometimes it is best spent at home with just your immediate family.
Where's Chevy? Yoo hoo, where are you. Hope you are ok.

Good news indeed, Kathy! Some drugs can cause both dry eyes and mouth dryness. Thank God for specialists. How do they explain you feeling "yucky"? I am sleepy and tired, but just want to pop in to tell you I am happy it is not an autoimmune problems.
Ms. Sas, give the poor man a break! You are expecting too much. Can't have both Fabio and Bob the Builder at the same time.
It's raining. Yay! Love the rain at night. Ok going to bed. Behind in my beauty sleep again.

Lita lovely picture!

Thanks Kath, no stress on Easter was a treat but now my Mom is starting the stress crap over my younger nephew's birthday gift from me and hubby. She wants me to get my soon to be 8 year old nephew nothing but The Hardy Boys series which is out of print now. So yesterday I sent an email to my sis in law about what my nephew might like for his birthday if I get him a couple of books. Her reply back was that he has a lot of Star Wars books and that she is trying to get him reading other things like Harry Potter. Think I will go with SIL's suggestion.
0 -
Kathy, that's great news. Yay to no autoimmune problems!
M0mmy, I'd also go with your SIL's suggestion. Mom's know how important it is for their sons to stretch their imaginations and Harry Potter fits the bill perfectly.
It's a bright, sunny cool day here so I'm off to see if I can handle mowing 2 acres of lawn. I keep telling DH it's just riding around on a lawn mower but he says there's a lot of turning involved. I won't know if I don't try.
Gentle healing hugs to All

Yep. When I told hubby what my Mom said, he said "your Mom is not running the show, your SIL and brother are. Get whatever books you think he will like. Not what your Mom wants." Plus I can find the Harry Potter books in the thrift stores for a very cheap price
Mom tried to do this to me too when I was my Nephew's age. She always tried to force me to read what she wanted me to read, not what I liked to read. Never read any of the books that she tried to force on me

Mommy- your mother sounds well intentioned, but the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books were pretty common when I was a kid (the 1960s). That is a big blast from the past. Your SIL has some great ideas for you.

JWooohooo, Great advice. on all the scamming stuff. Thanks. Had another long talk with Shep. Her vision is the thing that is the trouble about posting. I suggested she post anyway, even if it was only one line. Even if it reads screwy b/c of spelling none of us will care.
Wren, Hahaha with you on the Ds having to tell your DH something. We women are so smart, it's a PITA that the guys just try to ignore us. I think I wrote about Mark Gungor. he's a minister that does marriage counseling. Many video's on YouTube. He is so funny.
Lita almost done YAY, Roses are beautiful. Cute bunny pic.
Wenchie your DH sounds like a hoot. The Microsoft guys are the strangest. Why they think anyone would turn over info is beyond me. It's click!. Sounds good about the doc. Ask on each thread that you are on what the first two year plan was? Enough people will respond that you will have some ammunition to talk with him about. You good use keywords "ASCO guidelines for patient follow-up."
In general, It's every three months after primary treatment for the first year. Can be every three months after that for a while(varies). Then the next move is every six months for 1-2 years, then every year for several years. Depends on the doc and the cancer. But ASCO should give you info on the plan for BC.

Kathy, what blood test was 5 x's higher than normal that your doc didn't do anything with? Was it a rheumatologist you went too? Thanks, about Donnie, it was a momentary thing being mad. I was just spouting off. Donnie's using my car for work. I'm stuck at home during the day,, ergo no thrifting. But he tries to get me out during the evening. We had a great visit to our favorite restaurant. The 5 of us. and great food.
Loverly, hahaha " give the poor man a break! You are expecting too much. Can't have both Fabio and Bob the Builder at the same time." True, very true. Toilets blocked up last night. Thought we'd have to snake this morning. But whatever he did last night they were both clear and running well. Afraid it was the sign that the septic needed draining. But we are good to go, now.
Yay Mommy, stick to your plan.....
