Hello late-nighters. Chrissy, that's excellent news!

Hey, girls! Today was 28/36 and it was a rough day! Been extremely nauseous all day. Yuck! And I have a deep maroon patch of skin that HURTS. I know it's a burn but, ouch! I have some of those adhesive cold packs you get at the drugstore.  Does anyone know if it would be ok to use one of those? The aloe only stops the pain for a few seconds. HELP!

Crissy congratulations on your good report!  Your glasses story made me laugh out loud.

Can you fly to Seattle and then down to Los Angeles. Our climate here is quite different than the rest of the 48 contiguous states.  We have a rain forest on the Olympic Peninsula. The temperatures remain moderate all year long. There are many Native American Casinos, I have never been in any sort of casino but maybe that would be something cool to do. Seattle is famous for the coffees served here and of Salmon is a speciality. We have farmers markets in all the towns and get wonderful veggies and fruits there along with high grade dairy products and seasonal pastries. Apples would be ripe and the apple pies would be ready. You can see I am trying to lure you with food. :) My DD is a superb knitter and you two could share.

If it is doable, please come, you are invited. We have a lot of guest space in this house and room to breathe. Ginger

Rohanna call the Radiation Oncology department and ask. You don't wan to adhere anything where it could further damage the skin. Call, call call, it is their job to help you when you run into things like this.  It will pass but I know you are hurting now and you deserve relief.

    Hugs Ginger

Thanks, Ginger. I'm thinking about putting a cold compress on it so I can get through the night.

Rohanna - no adhesives to the area. You might just want to try refrigerator cold- if it is too cold it can cause damage too. Wet washclothes in baggies and pop in refrigerator. 10 to 15 min on then off and back on... ok so where is the maroon patch?

Hi ladies - hope you don't mind if I crash your party -- I am, again, wide awake, even though I am on no real drugs yet -- I will be on Tamoxifen (sp????) but need to see if chemo will  benefit me - my initial test was scrapped b/c the number of cancer cells in the sample was insufficient, so they sent a new sample and the clock starts anew... the story of BC - we wait and see and BC has its own timetable - not great for type A personalities like me (how old am I using the phrase type A - really - that hasnt been used in like a decade).

So tonight I am awake b/c my MX boob is sore and swelling and I have a low grade fever (and for fun, the ear on that side hurts, too - guess my ear wants to keep my boob company).  So I will call to get antiboitics in the morning.   I am bouncing off an Ambien hangover - accidently took an Ambien about 1pm Thursday instead of a pain pill... not recommended, especially if you need to go out to an appointment - I hit the curb twice and could not figure out what was wrong with me... figured it out this morning (strike that - yesterday morning - LOL) when I went for another pain pill - guess the need for the pain pills should have tipped me off about the infection - well, we are all learning...

rohanna - are you in radiation -- is that the cause of the sensitivity or is it drugs?

SAS - I sooo love Jez sauce -- I've only had it on cream cheese with crackers but it MUST have other uses cause it tastes so good - but then, I am a horse radish junkie...  but I did not have the recipe -- tell me what else you use it on???

Wow - I guess I am wide awake -- I need to find a bad book and start reading...

Thanks, anumacha. The maroon spot is under my armpit and about an inch to the left of my surgery scar. I will try the washcloth/baggies thing. So glad we don't have rads for 2 days.

rohanna - a bag of frozen peas works too - softer than ice... my husband puts the peas on a zip lock baggie.

Ok, ladies, the peas should be completely cooked in a few minutes. Now what to go with them? Ahhhhhhh, the relief!

Ok you can hold the cold stuff  in place with a sports bra, or pin it to a t-shirt/ snug tank top. You need to keep the skin area moist, so what ever they told you to use. Take your pain meds n try to reach someone on call to see if you can take something as an anti-inflammatory. A small pillow between your arm and your chest arm is a comfort measure, plus it stops you from over use of that arm. Just have everyone wait on you for a few day!

Thank you, anumacha. It's really helping. Got my small extra pillow and I'm going to try to sleep. Sweet dreams, everyone!

Rohanna have you used aqueous (sp) cream. I found it good but towards the end of rads I had to use silverdene cream as I became really badly burnt. Keep your skin really moist so it doesn't crack.

    Alyson

You are so right about keeping the area moist...they really need to tell the ladies about the burns n give you prescriptions just in case. Most of  the times people need the stuff is weekends!  I am very sorry that you had the burns.

    Hang in there Rohanna.

I think my pain pills have finally kicked in!
