I have one (1) daffodil open but more ready to bloom.  Rain/snow here tomorrow but nice Fri, nicer Sat, and nicer yet on Sun.  FINALLY!

Anyone up for a Thurs evening get-together in Madison in May?

Thanks for the kind words, Wi sisters. My father did pass away and I'm attending the cremation tomorrow. My sister and I haven't been doing too well together in planning the service, so I've largely stepped back and am letting her have it the way she wants. Sad, but I just don't want to add any more stress between cancer and now my dad's passing. This is not an area where I wanted any battle.

The past 4-5 months have been pretty challenging, but I do have to say that I see the glimmers of light shining into this long tunnel. Spring helps. A lot. More blue skies. Blooming flowers. Birds, frogs, walks in the woods. My daughter's first prom, and her birthday this weekend. Plus, I'm completing a school program I've been in and have some upcoming travel to look forward to. So, the positives are beginning to flood back in and I am grateful. I'm wanting to embark on getting healthier again (did very little exercise from Dec-March and I'm feeling that...oy!) One step at a time. Looking very forward to feeling stronger and better.

Destina, I'm so sorry for your loss. Life sure has a way if piling it on, doesn't it? When you look back and reflect on this difficult time you'll be able to hold your head high knowing you took the high road with your sister. I'll be in your pocket tomorrow!

I think this has definitely been the longest winter on record and I'm so glad you have so many positives in your life happening soon! (Forward.......!) Enjoy your daughter's first prom (how exciting!) and her birthday this weekend. It's supposed to be beautiful! (((Hugs))) Sheila

Thanks Sheila, I appreciate it. :-)

I also see that you started tamoxifen a little over a month ago. How's that going? I've been on the fence about it going back and forth, but will likely start this weekend. I figure I can give it a fair try.

Destina, it is worth a try! I started it two weeks after finishing rads. Some women here suggested taking it at night to avoid SE's, so that's what I did. The first week was awful. i had terrible fatigue and all I wanted to do was sleep. The second week wasn't quite as bad. The third week I didn't feel like I had to take a nap everyday and the fourth week I'd just have a period of fatigue here or there. This past week I had one day where i came home from a half day of work and slept for two hours. I turned 50 in November (10 days after I was diagnosed) so they'll switch me to an AI when I haven't menstruated for a year. I've heard about nasty SE's from that one also. We'll see how it goes. I have my first appt. with my MO since beginning the Tamo on May 3rd, so I'll see what she has to say then. Good luck!!

((Destina)) sorry for your loss.  My heart goes out to you and your family.

I've been on tamox nearly three years and the SE's have mellowed considerably.

Hot flashes and nighttime foot/leg cramps are the most annoying.  But I would stay on it two more years for the full five.  By then, there may be results from the research they're doing into ten years of tamox.  I see onc in May for six-month follow-up so will see what he says.

So looking forward to a spell of nice weather!  Cool

Destina, so sorry about your loss. My DH just lost his mom in Dec, and his father this month. Sometimes just nodding your head is the best you can do.

Hey Gritgirl! Good to see you here. And, no, I am NOT stalking you. I live here! LOL

I enjoyed the wonderful weather this weekend. My DH was actually home this whole weekend. We got a lot dine. Me limping around, him pushing toget it done. So happy stuff got done.

Ok ladies, confession time. Today is the first time I am sleeping in my bed up in my room since my BMX in Dec. 2011! Yep a year and a half in my magic chair. I need to get more exercise, so even though it hurts, I am dragging myself up those stairs starting today. I took an ambien so I will sleep. Wish me luck. Lordie, I am a wimp. I tend toward hoarding, so I have been working on getting it cleaned up for a couple of months. No, there wasn't THAT much stuff, but I cleaned the blinds, cleaned out the closet, my clothes, the drawers, the bookcases, the storage boxes under the bed, the bathroom closet, etc. It took me a long time cause I could only work at it for a couple of minutes at a time. But today, I am queen of the queen size bed again. Cats are, um, bemused.....

Much love, sorry for the long post.

    Hi Ladies,

Been some time since my last post.  It seems everyone is busy and will get even more so with the nice weather.  It is so Loonnnngg overdue.  My flowers are popping up and within the next couple weeks plan to take a field trip to a large Amish auction to purchase bedding plants.  First time to take students with me so could be interesting.

Three weeks ago today, I became a very proud GRANDMA.  The most precious little thing that ever was.  Couldnt be happier!!  The kids did things a little backwards but will manage.  We are now in the process of planning an August wedding.

My support person from the ACS emailed me last month as I celebrated my 2nd year of happiness, joy, laughter and love for life.  She sent me a big

    I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!

Stay strong, embrase each moment....well wishes to all

    hi Cindi, congrats!

Monica, I feel your pain.  A few weeks ago I did some yard work and worked some new muscles.  Hoo boy, I was sore in interesting places for a week.  Wink

Got out for a nice walk after supper tonight which was good because a cold front is moving in.  Madison was 40 degrees warmer than Minneapolis today!  They may get a foot of snow!  Just rain for us but the wind has really kicked up and the cold air is coming in.  It was nice while it lasted ...

Cindi, congrats on being a Grandma! I keep hoping!

Badger, it was beautiful yesterday. Today was s bit cool, nut sunny for part of bue day at least

Well, sleeping back in the bed is weird. My hips hurt, my arms hurt, my back is ok. But my knees continue to kill me. Sucks. But since they have forever, can't blame the bed. LOL I am a side sleeper, and being back in bed, I do, but my arm is under my head and ear. And, um, that hurts when its my left, which is my preferred side. That's the side with four surgeries, but I guess its good to stretch it out. Yeah, I keep telling myself that! LOL

Fuzzy, how are you dear? Come check in, ok?

    Much love to all.

Hello ladies - long time no write much. Work stress finally got the better of me & I gave notice. Won't be driving to Madison w/ DH after next Tuesday, unless I decide to go on a "retail therapy" excursion (always enjoyed visits to the various greenhouses and garden centers around Dane County). Will take the summer off and perhaps look for limited employment opportunities in the fall.

Moonflwr, have you ever tried yoga? Froedtert has a free drop-in class for their patients on Wednesday mornings. I have been amazed at the effects even though I've been doing water aerobics twice a week for over a year.

Hello everyone, I'm Terry from Somerset. Diagnosed in November. StagIII A. ILC. I had neoadjuvant chemo, surgery with expander placed in left breast. I'm 3 weeks from that and waiting for radiation until after expansion is complete. I'm 54 went through chemo menopause and have a bottle of Tamoxifen waiting. I haven't started it yet although probably will this week. I'm hanging in there, I'm more obsessed with the future prognosis now. I think I was too wrapped up in treatment to think of it before. Great hearing from all of you!

Welcome Terry! You'll find lots of great ladies here. I was diagnosed in Nov. as well. Such a whirlwind! Where is Somerset? I'm in New Glarus. I started my Tamoxifen about 6 weeks ago. I was super tired the first two weeks, but things seem to be getting better. I spent Wed. night thru half of Saturday at UW Hosp. Fever, my breast was hot to the touch. The doctor I talked to left it up to me to decide to go to ER or wait until morning and go to the breast center. I was thinking infection, so there was no way I was waiting. Fever was 102 by the time we got there around 10:00. Over the next 3 hours my breast turned bright red so they started me on IV antibiotics and admitted me. Official diagnosis is lymphedema with superimposed cellulitis. Ah, breast cancer, the gift that keeps on giving! I will call Monday am to see my breast surgeon and get in to see a lymphedema specialist. At least I'm not in the Hosp. for Mother's Day! Good luck with the Tamoxifen. Have you found the spring Rads 2013 board?

Hello to you also! No I haven't found that forum and I was looking for something on radiation. What's the forum called? Somerset is right across the border from the Twin Cities about 30 minutes from St. Paul. Amazingly last Tuesday I went to my reconstruction surgeon for expansion and had a temp of 101 with swelling around the expander and it was red and purple. He wanted to put. Me in hospital immediately and start IV antibiotics. I told him I'd rather take oral. Can't help it I'm crazy. But the antibiotics seem to be working. No redness and swelling gone. Only thing that bothers me though is swelling non painful around my armpit area. Do also drew fluid there. It doesn't hurt and my arm is good so I didn't think lymphodema. Do you think I may be wrong?

Hi Tresa: pop on over to the lymphedema forum for lots of good info on cellulitis. Sounds like you "dodged a bullet" by getting prompt treatment. Truncal LE is a possibilitysince it can manifest without measurable/visible arm swelling or pain. Depending on when your surgery actually was (your signature show it coming up 3 days from now!), you may also have normal post-operative symptoms that need time to resolve.

Swgee, you were smart to go straight to the hospital. Amazing how quickly that infection advanced. You could both learn more by going to http://www.stepup-speakout.org

Tamoxifen has caused me no problems. Need to decide when to transition to an aromatase inhibitor...

Tresa, I was on the Winter RADS 2012 Club, but I think there's a Spring 2013 version. I don't know anything about lymphedema yet. I do, however know not to ignore redness plus fever! Way to be proactive! Check out the topics section. I've connected with another group of gals in the IDC forum. We're planning a trip to Iowa in July to cheer on a sister who's running in the coasttocoastforcancer.org run. I can't even tell you how excited I am to connect with other women who get what I'm going through. (In person, ha!) (Four of the girls are coming from Canada!)

    Thanks for the link Vinrph!

We definitely need to get a Wisconsin. Ladies get together planned for this summer!

    (((Hugs))) and Happy Mother's Day!

Thanks you guys, my surgery was May 15 th. so almost a month ago. I have another expansion appt Tuesday and will determine if I'm just experiencing post surgery swelling. There's really no pain, it's just flabby like liquid.

    Welcome, Tresa! SW,

Wow. I had issues with my TE and had to have it removed due to infection twice in the left. He wouldn't leave it in. I needed 6 weeks if abx as well. Each time. you are lucky it cleared up for you guys without removal. I have one on my fight that yhey dont want to fill up either. sigh.

In regards to a get together, anyone up for a stay at a farmhouse near Stevens Point? My DH family has a place, couple of bedrooms available, we can have campfires. If you prefer, you can set up tents or trailers as well. Lots of hiking around. But, you have to get in a car to go to the lake though. But just hang out, read, talk, etc. Might be halfway for most of us. Just a thought.

Hellz yeah Monica! (As my 16 year old would say!)

It's going to be in the 80's tomorrow! Sure beats the 30's overnight! Have an appt. with BS tomorrow am and one Thursday-with OT to figure out how to help my lymph fluid drain and prevent cellulitis. I'm a little less red and swollen today. Still have pain, though.

Have a great week ladies! (((Hugs)))

And, all, I wasn't kidding, we really can use the farm for a campout this summer. And, yes, there is an indoor bathroom. LOL

hi ladies and welcome Tresa.  I'm in the SW part of the state but work in Madison.

Glad you & Swgee got the cellulitis under control fast, that is nothing to mess with.

The Lymphedema boards here have some world-class experts.  Caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable.

Been missing y'all but super-busy with work so not a lot of free time for BCO.  I'd be up for a farmhouse campout this summer but not until Aug.  June & July are already booked.

Monica I sent you a PM.  ((hugs)) to all

hi all, today I hit goal of 3,500 miles walked since dx!  Now will increase goal to 4,000.

Wanted to ask if you would contact your US Rep to support the Lymphedema Treatment Act.  It died in committee last year but will be reintroduced this year and needs sponsors.  This website makes it so easy.  I heard back from my MOC in a day.  http://www.capwiz.com/lymphedematreatmentact/home/

Anyone catch Gwen Moore on the Colbert Report?

Poppies are starting to bloom, great splashes of color and so fleeting.  ♥
