Not sure how much we ended up with, but I'm thinking somewhere around 6" (?) The Packer game was a tough one! Really hoping the Eagles win tonight! Back to rads for me tomorrow - 6/33. I hope everyone has faith, family and friends this Christmas and that the new year brings us all health and happiness! Lana

gina will be praying for you. Lana hang in there. Are you using aquaphor on your skin? Omaz on another board had a regimine she swore by for preventing problem skin.
We had 9 inches or so perhaps a bit more. I know it took my DH hours to do our stuff and help out the neighbors. Everyone stay safe and warm. Much love.

Oh boy. It's a cold one out there today. How's everyone doing? I hope things are going well. Hope you all check in for the New Year! Mr. Santapillar says Hi!

hi all and Happy New Year! Back from FL and although they didn't carry the Packers-Bears game on TV, it was a good visit. Loved the 70-degree mornings but not so much the 85-degree afternoons. Told someone that's just not natural for Dec and she laughed & said that was probably closer to conditions in Jerusalem 2,000 yrs ago. Point taken but it's still good to be home. Got a lot done, helping mom sort and cull. We took five trips to the thrift store. I fly back in March then we'll drive her car north ahead of the moving van. Bittersweet holiday.
Monica, love your haikus on the subject of squishies LOL.
Gina, how ya doing?
We got maybe 5" overnight and the snowplow just came through so I'll shovel the walk soon but wait for DH to do the driveway. ♥ to all

Hi WI ladies from snowy Whitefish, MT! We've gotten 24" since Tuesday! We managed to get out of WI just before the super cold temps. Th skiing has been good but challenging~~~all conditions, fog, snow/ice mix, wind, more snow, etc. While DH skis in heavy snow and howling winds, I'll be in town shopping and having lunch. It' been good to ski and relax before next week's lumpectomy. My surgeon called me the other day and I will not be having simultaneous SNB. But if any invasive cancer is found during final pathology, I'll have to go back for it.
Keep your fingers crossed that it begins and ends with lumpectomy (and rads).

Gina, in your pocket for next week! Fingers and toes crossed too.
Everyone else doing OK? ♥ to all

- Im so happy to see so many have enjoyed the thread I started. I was without internet at home for a long time so I have missed out on a lot. Im due for the yearly mammo/onco/surgeon followup April 1. I have become increasingly unhappy with the appearance of my right lumpectomy breast and I am checking into getting something done on it...just not sure what. I need a breast lift on both sides due to sagging from breastfeeding my 3 kids years ago. I have a dented area about 3-4 fingers wide on the inner upper portion of the umpectomy breast. My lump. was in May 2011. Has anyone here had fat grafting done? or implants after lumpectomy? Im concerned that fat grafting wouldnt last for long as Im also trying to lose the weight I have gained after my bc while on tamoxifen.

hi bluewillow welc ome back! On the exchange board in reconstruction a lot of people have had fat grafts to fill in after the implants. You might want to pop over and ask. Maybe they know of a better board for that.
Goodness the blowing snow is crazy. Not as much snow as they said but it really is like a blizzard.
I started the Livestrong program at the YMCA today. On Thursday well be tested to see where we are in fitness level. Ha. Is there a negative one? LOL
STAY SAFE AND WARM!

ive done a lot of reading this week...came across women who took their tamox for five years and still had a recurrence and/or a new breast cancer. I am fearful that I stopped tamox, but i know my body and life quality suffered while I was on it. From what ived read when you have DCIS , if you have a recurrence it is almost always invasive.Does anyone think Id be crazy to have a prophylatic mastectomy on my good left boob and also done on my right lumpectomied boob...rather than taking the tamoxifen to ward off a recurrence and to lessen my constant paranoia that cancer is in there waiting to attack in the future?? Since my nipple/areola were not affected or near my DCIS Im considering a Nipple and skin sparing mastectomy. Is that crazy or what???

blue. I got a BMX right away with only DCIS. Of course in my left which was prophylacticly removed they found the IDC. So i wouldn't try to talk you out of anything! LOL

hi Lisa, good to see you but sorry for the reason why. I had BMX no recon so IDK about implants etc.
Monica, good luck with Livestrong, if you score low on fitness you'll be able to improve greatly LOL.
Gina, how ya doing?
Dental appt this afterrnoon so working from home today. ♥ to all

Moonflower....so the mammogram missed the cancer in your supposed cancer free boob? yikes !!! so you didnt know it was there at all until after the surgery??? Why did you do the prophlactic MX? just a gut feeling or family history?

blue. Yep. Missed on 3 mammos. Ultrasound. 1.6 cm so not tiny either. My Mom died from BC. So did two of her sisters. And sit down. Her 2 sisters had it in one breast. Had tx. Got it again found it too late in the other breast. Now stay seated. My Mom was dx in one breast. After watching her 2 sisters pass from BC, she insisted on them taking both breasts. Yep. You guessed it. They found BC in the supposedly clear breast. But they told her they had it all and didn't need chemo. 7 and a half years later she had what they thought was gall bladder problems. She had an op and was totally infiltrated with BC. She passed 3 days later. But it was fast and no pain as she was on morphine pump from op. So all in all a blessing. She didn't have to go through what her sisters did. Ok back to me. When I was DX with DCIS in right breast, I could have gotten a lx. No way! I said take them both. They said you havent had a lot of time to decide are you sure. I said I have had 20 years to decide what would i do if... so They did a BMX. Found IDC in left. Under nipple not visible. 1.6 so not that small.
Sorry if that was TMI! LOL just wanted you to see the decision path....

Moonflwr: wow ! see thats what has me worried...ive been hearing of people doing BMX and then finding cancer in the "healthy boob" on pathology. This is why Im considering doing the BMX....even though according to my last 2 mammos I was clear. Ive also heard that if you get a recurrence the majority of the time it is invasive. SInce I cant tolerate the tamoxifen i feel like maybe i should be proactive, rather than worry myself every year for the next 40-50 years that something will turn up. DO you know if when they do a NSMX if there is sensation left in the nipple? or can anyone else tell me that?
0 -
The answer to that from all I've read is no sensation in the nipple. And if you think about it, they cut almost all the way around so no nerves left. There is also a small chance that the nipple will not take the move well. But i guess it's no different than a flap. Sometimes those need extra work too. Just take your time to make your decision. You have the luxury of time.
I forgot to mention I was Her2. So i needed chemo. My MO was surprised when I said Oh Good! He said he didn't hear that often. But of course because of my Mom I wanted it. She did not have anything but BMX. So i wanted more tx than they did for her.
Much love.

oh.... i guess i thought the point of sparing the nipple was to still have sensation in it....so it would be totally numb no chance for any feeling in it? what about with implants? or a DIEP? still no feelings?
0 -
Well i guess some People might have a bit of feeling but most really do not. On the flaps, ive been yold, because it is your skin you do have feeling. Kind of like running your hand on your arm or belly. But not the real sensations of your natural breast. I was sensitive on my nips and really miss that complete feeling when I orgasm. It just isnt the same. Sorry if thats TMI!

Moonflwr:
totally NOT TMI...these are the things i need to know to make a very difficult decision. IM wondering if there is more nipple sensation with using an implant? the only problem is I think you have to have those replaced every ten yrs or so...and i dont know what kind of insurance i would have in the future....would the federal mandate still make insurance cover for implant replacements? I am on SSI for multiple medical reasons . If I ever lose enough weight to have back surgery then i will have to go back to work and whop knows what or if obamacare or some other insurance would cover revisions.... .0 -
Hi
My name is Jessica and I live in Madison. I had DCIS, stage 3, hormone receptor negative in my left breast, I too fear recurrence but I absolutely refused to take tamoxifen even though they said it might hlep prevent a new cancer in my right breast. I read a LOT about tamoxifen and to me, the risks outweighed the benefits

JESSICA: thanks for sharing that....i had such unbearable joint pain and also weight gain on tamoxifen ...and im not willing to undergo that for 5 yrs and then have to go through actual menopause after that....my partner does NOT want me to take it either...our activities had to be so limited because of my pain. I couldnt walk even one solid block my knees hurt so bad.
I called and set up appointment with a plasticsurgeon to find out about fat grafting and a lift OR doing a DIEP after BMX. I also made an appt with my breast surgeon Dr Wilke and my onco DR Tavaarwerk, both at UW Madison...to find out what my future recurrence chances are if not on the tamoxifen and to find out whether the mastectomy would be reasonable to consider.

I go to the same clinic and it is the best clinic at UW. They really treat you well there. Some of the other clinics such as radiology treat you like you are an animal...really bad.
Ask for current peer reviewed studies on tamoxifen. Tamoxifen has been black boxed by the FDA. Google "tamoxifen black box". Tamoxifen can cause new disease such as uterine sarcoma and pulmonary embolisms...I mean WTF? Why would anyone take it. I had a complete melt down about. I mean leave my uterus alone!! I've had enough with breast cancer. I happen to be post menopausal but what enraged me is that I would read articles that said, "oh, if you get uterine cancer, you can just have a hysterectomy." ....what???/How dare they....ok, you can tell this ticks me off. I won't take a drug for a disease that may potentially CAUSE A WHOLE NEW DISEASE

Oh, my surgeon gave me a tool to use to determine recurrence. Google Breast Cancer Nomogram: Ductal Carcinoma In Situ. You give some information and they plug in the numbers. Even with my aggressive tumor my chances of recurrence are low. I know what you mean about worrying about it a lot...walking and eating button mushrooms can help prevent recurrence. I've reconnected with some spiritual things in my life. .....Did you have radiation?
0 -
i really liked my UW radiology people...i didnt have any problems with them....other than it took a bit to feel safe having a male do my rads. The more i hear about tamoxifen the more i dont want to take it....but im terrifed ill get a recurrence if i dont take it which then makes me want to do the BMX....i dont know if im fully being rational or if im being paranoid that its out to get me.

Check out the NOMO calculator.
I wouldn't allow the male techs to radiate me. I felt it was just wrong. Men think about sex every seven seconds,
0 -
ok yes I like my radiation techs but I think it was the bigger radiation dept and interventive radiation that wasn't very great..I got an infection from second surgery to get wider margins...

i have had sucess with Femera....I truly believe the blockers work...please see my story and you will understand why.
