hi all, was up late last night and the moon was so pretty it inspired me. Monica has seen these already on her Haiku for Fun thread but thought I'd share with my fellow Wisconsinites! ♥
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Winter-bare branches.
Full moon, silver maple tree.
Midnight silhouette.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rainbow ring around
tonight's full moon means that it's
really freaking cold!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Full moon lends a blue
hue to the new-fallen snow.
Better than yellow!
I laughed at them there too! LOL way to go Badger! Poetry is fun.
Today my DS1 and his wife came by to paint the kitchen. I had done a lot of prepping like pulling things off the wall. They got it done pretty quick. It's kind of a putty gray. Close to what was there before. But they threw my sconces in the garbage. They have hated them for years. THEY Told My DH to buy me new ones! LOL. So he did. Then because of changes. I wanted new switch plate covers. Getting the picture? The whole "hole in the bucket syndrome! " LOL. So we got black ones. Of course we needed black switches. Ahem. So looks like we have some work cut out for us. LOL I was a bit apprehensive about black. But with my black appliances I think it works. We'll see.
anyone from Milwaukee? I need to get some names of motels right near Froedtert... Watching the weather - I have several appts on Thurs including my scary first scan - I don't really want to reschedule as I am very anxious to get it over with!
hi SophiaMarie, I'm in the SW part of the state so no clue about motels near Froedert. Hopefully you found some options - good luck today!
Monica, love the new avatar pic!
Working from home today due to ice (that's already here) and snow (that's soon to come). ♥ to all
thanks Badger. We decided to take a chance and wait and see - thankfully we didn't have ice here. Wet and slushy. If we had to leave any earlier it would've been worse - many run-offs and accidents! I do love Froedtert though. It's worth the drive!
Hey ladies... Hope everyone stays safe in the storm!!
SophieMarie hope things went ok today.
Nasty cold ra in. Yuck. Staying in tomorrow. Went to YMCA Livestrong program today. A bit stiff today. Tomorrow will tell.
I hope if you have to be out and about that you take it real easy. Please be careful!
GLN, you take care too!
Much love to all
Hey all, last week I smelled skunk for the first time this year, and this morning there was a lady bug/beetle on my stove (must've come from the vent hood). Spring is definitely on its way!
Hope those in northern WI didn't get clobbered too bad. I heard Superior got 18" of snow!
Reality set in earlier this week with news about one of our local support group members now in hospice and then a funeral for another gal whose son is still in high school. Let's be sure to appreciate life and do what we can to help each other while there is time!
Despite the cold air, I always feel better when the sun is shining like today.
Badger - That is a beautiful picture! I've been to Bayfield and Madeline Island and the scenery is spectacular. They have a very cool (no pun intended!) dog sledding adventure company. One of their trips is through the ice caves and winter camping~~~I feel like I've been winter camping all winter!
Just started week 3 of rads...so far, so good. I've been treating myself to an iced coffee every morning on my way to UW. You would think I could have a hot drink these super cold mornings, but at least my ice cubes don't melt!
Hope everyone is well. Looking forward to warmer temps this week. Gina
I'm from Milwaukee, WI. I'm helping my mother through her treatment. She had her first treatment on Thursday. We did the cold cap therapy using the Elastogels.
How are you all?
hi everyone! I've been hearing the cardinals doing their spring song! Wonder if we will get anymore snowstorms before it's all over.
I was wondering if anyone goes to or has heard anything (good or bad) about St Mary's in Madison? Specifically their breast cancer treatment and oncologists. I am soooo incredibly sad about this insurance thing - I've felt so safe at Froedtert, but now will be having to find a new place probably by the end of summer.
Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion for the camp out? I was thinking the last week of July? Hope more can join us this year. Still planning to be a laid back time. Let me know your thoughts. Also with or without spouses and or family. Chime in! Much love.
hi Monica, the last weekend in July works for me but I'm also flexible on dates. It would be ideal to come up Fri after work since I'm already in Madison. Anyone want to carpool? I'll head home Sun after breakfast/brunch which will prob be at this wonderful family restaurant with great food for cheap.
Ladies, this is such a fun time. Monica and her DH host us in their family's old farmhouse on many acres of beautiful land. There are plenty of beds as it's used for family get-togethers, vacations and hunting. I call dibs on the waterbed LOL. Last year, they gave me a golf cart tour of the property, we ate fresh-picked blueberries and lemon meringue pie and grilled salmon that DH caught himself, and pretty much just hung out and laughed our butts off. There's a fire pit and we could have a campfire.
Less than 2 weeks 'til I go fetch mom from FL. Working hard to get things ready for her and also get a jump on projects at work since I'll be gone for a week.
welcome deelightful, hope your mom is doing OK after 1st tx Thurs. ((hugs))
SophiaMarie, I get healthcare through Dean/St. Mary's but not Madison. Sorry you're having to find new doc but there are good ones out there. Maybe one of the Madison-area ladies has an opinion.
Gina, hope you're getting through rads with few SE. How many more to go?
Hey all, maybe 48 degrees on Monday, "Partly sunny and mild." woo-hoo! ♥
Hey Ladies,
If you are looking for something to do tomorrow 3/15 there is a wonderful parade in celebration of St. Pat's day in Avoca. Throw on your green and come join the fun. Wonderful food and good times.
Former WI'er here, I crash this thread sometimes.
I would actually consider coming to the campout.
I don't know SE WI that well, but it can't be to hard to find.
Someone brought up dog sledding on Madeline Island...DO IT! Truly one of my favorite experiences ever. Very different from east coast dogsledding where you just sit in the sled. The ice road is fun too!
Even though I lived in NEW, I love SW. Used to camp and canoe every year on the kickapoo.
I don't fly much anymore cause of LE, but I could be persuaded to make the trip. Probably would need to go buy the gear when I got there instead of carrying it.
im interested in this camp out....could someone get me up to speed so i dont have to read the whole thread to find the info?
Blue Willows, I really miss my camping trips in your neck of the woods. As I mentioned a few years before I have been thru RC several times.
My co-workers always joke when we are out in the county,"Does this remind you of Wisconsin?"
Oh and I love to drive town to town and visit country taverns!
Gotta love a place where you can order chocolate milk and fried cheese in a bar.
hi. Campout is at the family's tree farm near Stevens point. We will have 3 bedrooms in one house set up with bunk beds. There is an Older RV that sleeps 6 more and the old farm house can sleep 8 or more. So you don't have to camp out unless you want too. We have two tents at my house and can scrounge up many more if needed. So if 20 people come everyone has a bed. This is not counting air beds on the floor. That means indoor toilets! But if you want the outhouses are available
Thinking the last week in July. Sometimes blue berries are ripe. Sometimes not. Whatever mother nature decides. LOL. There is no swimming at the farm but a lake is about 10 minutes away. Fishing at the park or elsewhere. Lots of places to walk. Golf cart and 4 wheelers to take a tour around the property. Time to relax. We can cook communally or byo food. Depending on how long you plan on staying and how many if us there are. There are two small restaurants less that 10 minutes away great for breakfast very reasonable priced as well. Grills are there as well. If you want adventure you can cook on a wood stove! Otherwise the house has a stove and even microwaves. So we plan on a shopping trip to a funky little closeout shop or other stuff. Nothing has to be decided early except who can come. Once I have a list I'll give you all my email and we can thrash out the details. If there aren't that many coming we can eat out every meal if we want! LOL Let me know if you are interested. I will set up a thread for the or revive my old one. I will also ask the IL ladies as well. Hoping for a good turnout!
Cookie! Once a badger, always a badger.
Flew to FL last Fri. We started driving Sat and got here Mon so it took three days. Got her checked in and unpacked the car then came home to sleep in my own bed for the first time in a week. Went back Tues to get the banking done, find a local map, and tour around a bit. Today we get to deal with the DMV ugggghhh.
It's a big change for her, going from a big house into a small apartment, and the moving van hasn't gotten here yet so it's kind of empty. She's already made friends with the lady from across the hall so that's good. The snow we got Tues was the first she'd seen in 25 years. But she also saw daffodils and a robin so there are trade-offs.
I'm off work this week to get her settled in and won't be on the board much the next few days but did want to say hey. Hey! LOL ♥
Badger so glad you got her settled in. More hard work when the moving van comes but it will make it her home! Hugs to you both!
Well in a classic case of be careful what you wish for you may get it, the moving van came yesterday. When I showed up, mom was surrounded by boxes and looking bewildered. So we unpacked boxes for four hours. Wowsers what a lot of work! I'm sore in unusual places.
On the good news front, we have 60 days to get mom's drivers license and car reg switched over so the DMV can wait. Her disabled parking tag from FL is valid in WI until it expires in 2015 so one less thing to deal with. I go back today and the plan is to hit Target for home goods then the grocery store. I had stocked her 'fridge with a few basics but there are things she still needs.
When I got ready to leave yesterday, mom was pouring a glass of wine and was planning to take it down to the little "pub" on her floor to socialize with some of the residents including the nice lady from across the hall who is from the town where I live. Her new friend likes an Old Fashioned and is going to teach mom euchre. I am so hoping she will be happy in her new home. ♥
