hello there.  I'm in somerset wisconsin.  I had reconstruction after tissue expander on 12/16/2013.  Also augmentation to my right breast to make them equal as possible. Overall I'm satisfied with results but was wondering about your thoughts. The reconstructed breast is obviously harder and no nipple yet.  My surgeons not sure if my skin can handle the nipple after radiation from last summer.  He is talking about a tattoo and possibly grafting part of my existing right nipple to my left side.  Anyone ever heard of that and if so what were the results?  Also I expected the saline implant to be a bit softer.  I don't want to complain because I'm grateful to God and happy to be alive. But, results are not what I visualized. The reconstructed breast is not a lot different from the tissue expander. Is that normal?

Hello Tresa! I had my exchange sx on Dec 13th. I have saline round implants and the softened up fine. I had a BMX though so their both the same. Perhaps it is the radiated skin that is a bit tight. It can take a while to heal.  When I am healed I plan on getting 3 -D nipple tattoos. I can't link on my phone but Google Vinnys Meyers. He does lots if nip tattoos and has pics so you can see results. My breast skin did not have rads so that is a difference but I had 7 sx on one side I don't want more. Some ladies seem to have success with fat grafting to soften the skin before nipple are done. Perhaps you can ask your PS. Also go to the breast reconstruction forum on these boards and look for any thread discussing radiated skin. If there isn't one maybe start a topic for radiated skin and reconstruction success. People will tell their stories to help others.

    Much love.

Thank you so much for your reply. Sounds like our surgery and diagnosis times are similar. I struggled with whether to have a double or single mastectomy. I still wonder but am happy so far with the decision. I read about your lobster dinner. Sounds great! Where is Port Washington?  I haven't been on the threads since treatment last year. I think I needed a break from the whole deal. However it's so good to hear from others making it and enjoying life. My sister is 54. She was diagnosed at 34 with lobular also. She had lumpectomy and chemo and radiation and so far is great. My mom had the same, lobular 3 years ago. Same treatment and she's doing well.  We don't carry brac gene just some crazy hereditary thing. I was stage 3, my mom 2, and my sister 1.  I read your history. Nice talking with you and hang in there.

Thx tressa. Port is on Lake Michigan about halfway between Sheboygan and Milwaukee. If you take hyw 33 east to the Lake there we'd be..LOL

My Dx was in 2011. About a year before you. I just took the Scenic Route! LOL.  And I was Her2 positive which means I had to have chemo even with no nodes. But because of my family history I would have fought for it! LOL.  It's always hard to make that decision. But i did BMX because I lost Mom from BC. So i chose BMX. We each have to make a decision that makes the most sense to us! It ain't easy.

    Much love.

Happy tax day everyone! Snow on the ground here in Waukesha makes me feel like I'm still living in Wausau.Singing

Filed 2 complaints with the state insurance commissioner's office since my MRI & lymphedema pump providers have not been paid for the pre-approved procedure/equipment I received last November. Although authorization was granted in advance (the diagnostic imaging had gone to appeal, which I won by appearing in person before their committee resulting in a 2 month delay from the radiologist's original suggestion) they continue to issue denials and ignore the billings.

So interesting that our new friend Tresa has such a strong family history of lobular BC. Happy to hear they are all doing well. I'm thinking about genetic testing for myself but not if I have to fight to get it covered...

My DIEP was done at Froedtert on the west side of Milwaukee - might be worth the trip if you want that procedure (hubby is still commuting every day to Madison, I used to go three times a week until a year ago when I "retired").

Of course, implants can be done almost anywhere a plastic surgeon has a practice! What kind are you planning?

I'm 95% sure of having no reconstruction but Ieave 5% open in case I change my mind.  I'm having one of those days where I'm thinking about it.  The only reconstruction option I have is lat. dorsi.

hi peacestrength!  I didn't have recon but wanted to say hey.

Signed up for another 5K run/walk in May.  That's 3 so far this year.  Great motivation to train and you usually get a fun t-shirt.  My core and legs are strong but I need to improve cardiovascular fitness.

Also signed up for Relay for Life and plan to walk the survivor's lap.  Will walk in your honor ladies.  ♥ to all

Yes, I would say it's finally here! Nice to have sunshine even if the air is still a little on the cool side. Not getting forsythia blossoms this year since the rabbits or deer must have been very hungry - they pruned several shrubs very efficiently for me. Waiting to see which other plants may have been damaged by the severe winter weather: iris looks like it survived, not sure about some of the roses...

Wow you guys, I just saw a bald eagle fly past my house!  Cool!

Daffodils blooming, tulips soon.  Not sure about my roses either.

Mom's settled in.  Stereo's hooked up and next we look for a TV.

Monica, she did water exercise class and liked it a lot.  ♥ to all

Headed to Madison tomorrow for my son's rowing regatta on Lake Monona. I sure hope it doesn't rain, as we will be standing outside for several hours.

Milwaukee ladies!  I have some 8 am appts next week at Froedtert - I was figuring I might be getting off 43 and on to 45 about 7:30 am.  Will it be too crazy traffic-wise already?  Do I need to get up a little earlier to avoid it?  Or might it be better to get off say at the Moorland Rd exit and go up Bluemound or something?

hmm. 7:30 is probably the worst time. If you get to that intersection before 7 or after 8 it's better. But between 7 and 8 it seems much worse. I should ask where you're coming in from. That might make a difference. Not to mention good old construction season has started. Good luck.

from Beloit - so all the way across on 43.  Would The Moorland exit be better - and just take side streets?  Ugh - I made the appt early so I could get homa ASAP so dh could get to work - but this doesn't sound fun!

Ok so you are coming up from the south. I think if you plan on getting to the area around 7 you're better off. Stop and get a coffee nearby when you get there if your are earlier. And if you get through before 3 to head home you'll be pretty good. It may be heavier but it will be moving. Good luck! Who knows it might just be real clear!

    Much love and safe travels.

Sophiamarie, you should know that the zoo interchange as well as that section of Watertown Plank Road are under MAJOR construction: plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early as Moonflower suggests. With my recent Froedtert appointments, the MyChart reminder has a link to maps showing where the sticking points are. Check the website. I assume you've been through there before.

The Highway 100 ramps are closed which puts a lot of traffic onto Moorland, Blue Mound & Wisconsin. I usually try to go in the early afternoon, following the lunch hour confusion. Getting out of the medical complex can also be a challenge when staff finished with their shift are trying to go home. I don't want to scare you but some drivers can be very aggressive, will run stoplights and cause dangerous situations so be alert. PM if you want my phone number in case of emergency...

I was actually late to a dress rehearsal because there were two accidents on the same stretch of interstate, far apart enough to not be related! Only slowing for one collision scene would have still left me on time (no such luck). That was in the evening of course however rubber neckers plague drivers on both sides of the street and it is totally unpredictable. I also allow for Brewers fans on game days.

ugh.  I think I will just call and make later appts!!  By the time I get to that point I really have to go bad - I could just see how exciting it would get being stuck in traffic!  ;)  I know I've come home from there in rush hour and that wasn't too bad, but I'd hate to get stuck getting there.  Thanks for the input - that really helped!
