Tessa - lol - It was just the excuse I needed to start eating the wrong foods again. ;-)  BTW, I never heard of a pill injected into the stomach.  There's something new to learn every day here.

Everyrose - Good job in finding out about the screennames.  Maybe we all should start playing musical-screennames - just to keep any spies out there confused.  (lol)  Of course, then we'd be confused, too...

Deb - I'll bet your sister has no doubt that you love and care about her.  :-)  But, yeah, I've found posts I made, like, 10 years ago on other forums, still floating around out there in cyberspace.  Afraid some people might misunderstand them, I went back and deleted whatever I could that could be traced to me.  When I was first DXed, the very first few days, I shredded my old diaries.  I pictured myself not making it and then my family reading them.  (lol)

Enerva - Good luck with your exams.  And sweet dreams with Channing.  ;-)

You girls crack me up !   LOL

Piper, I've got to get used to calling you Everyrose....  I still end up typing Piper.  : P

Deb, you kill me.... threw away your sex toys....  Now you've got an excuse to buy new ones!  With the way things seem to be coming out of left field for you at times you could probably use one about now.   LOL    (It's funny because I thought about that too.  Then I figured " Hey, I'll be gone.  So if they find the drawer, they find the drawer.... )     Your sister knows you love her dear.  No matter what you post here.  It's the ones closest to us that can hurt us the most and I'm sure she understands that.  <3.

You guys haven't heard of the pill impalement?  So is this a new thing and I'm a guinea pig?   I don't recommend it.  :p  Either that, or they need to let me have a few margaritas before I walk in there.

Enerva I love your name!   I'm going to start using it all the time now.  That way when I'm pissed off at work no one will know what I'm saying.

Keep us posted on how you do on your exam!  :)

lol Yes Tessa that must be a new med. I was also surprised when you said they put a N in your back for the surgery. All i got was morphine for the first few hours after i woke up and after that Percocet. I think somehow every clinic and Hospital has their own way of dealing with this bc surgeries.

I am glad you are smiling i dont know how i would have reacted a the new nurse missing the half a pill thing. lol

The drug is called Zoladex and they put a pill on the end of what I like to call a lance and then jab it into your stomache.

Of course I got the newbie who I believe was on her first day.  ( I was surprised there was no one overseeing her.)   Don't get me wrong, she was very nice, but to every question it was " I'm sorry I don't know. I just started."

Then when she jabbed the pill into my stomache and pulled out the lance a tiny bit of the pill was still left.  It had broken off.  ( OF COURSE IT DID...)   So, she says " Oh, bad news.   We've got to do it again."    At that point I was balling as it was.  Mostly because I had a miscarriage 9 months ago and I knew this was taking away any chance of ever having another child. ( Yes, I know I'm 43, but the emotions are still there and I still feel the sting of losing my child)

The thing I don't understand is that :  if they jab it in my stomache (near my ovaries?)  and it dissolves, how is that so different from taking it orally?

My bc was noted as ER/PR +.    So it's supposed to shut down my ovaries.  I have to endure this once a month every Friday for the next 5 years.

Doesn't it seem like it would be cheaper / easier to just remove them?

Ok, now I'm confused more than ever.  In an article on zoladex it says:

"But some premenopausal women may want to temporarily stop the ovaries from producing estrogen so they have the option of having children after treatment. Medicines called LHRH (luteinizing"

I'm also on femera. The article on Femera says:

Femara (chemical name: letrozole) is an aromatase inhibitor approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat:

    • postmenopausal women diagnosed with hormone-receptor-positive, early-stage breast cancer right after surgery (or possibly chemotherapy and radiation) to reduce the risk of the cancer coming back

WHY AM I ON THESE SIMULTANEOUSLY??

Oh dear, i have no idea i am 40 i was 38 when mxd, i was not given any options other than frezze my eggs which i had not time to do cuz Chemo needed to be in my system within a week. So yes i am now facing the never been a mother fact. I am ok cuz i am single i broke up with the loser who was only using me for sex so i am ok but i wish i had options to preserve some hope. Anyway know i was given Tamoxifen and i turned it down. I know its crazy cuz there is a chance of C coming back but i am taking my chances . I am in not economic situation to have a child and who knows if i will ever be. I am now just glad my period came back and i am feeling somehow normal.

Tessa please ask your onco to explain all these drugs and the why and make sure you write things down ,if you can. Since with our brains we tend to forget the details. Sending you big hugs.

Tessa - Oh, NOW I remember.  I remember either reading about Zoladex or my onc talking with me about it.  (It's been a few years since chemo for me.)  I don't remember the onc mentioning that a pill would be involved in the injection, though.  I never had Zoladex.  The chemo put me into early menopause.  Then I tested positive for BRCA-2, and eventually both ovaries were removed, anyway.

Enerva, you totally humble me.  Who the heck am I to complain?  Not that it wasn't emotionally gutwrenching, but I should just be thankful for what I have.

I did call the MO office and a woman gave me the what for's.   She said "This is standard.  This is what we do.  It's not just you."

So, I read her word for word the article quotes and asked why I'm on them simultaneously.  She said "The zoladex is making you menopausal even though temporarily so you're able to take the femera."   I said " I'm still getting a period.  So how can I be menopausal?"  She responded with "Just like pregnancy, it's not immediate reactions."

So, I hope if any of you also are prescribed this crap, somehow this helps.  :)

Adding:  Right, it's all coming back now.  (lol)  Zoladex is for stopping the ovaries temporarily.  That's probably why I was considering it at the time.  Even though I had no plans to have more children at that point, I still wanted to keep as many body parts as possible.

As for being on Zoladex and Femera - your onc probably wants to hit the cancer with everything available.  I had the ovaries removed but still take Tamoxifen.  Recently, I started wondering why.  So, I looked it up and read that women are given Tamoxifen after an oophorectomy.  Go figure.

Anyway, it's good that you're looking into these things and staying on top of the information.  Mistakes can happen.

Throwing away sex toys...Oh the sacrilege.

Nice Pic T. I almost posted that last night...but I had too much wine and feel asleep instead.

On a serious note Tessa, You really need to sit down with someone at your oncs office so you can better understand your treatments and the rationale behind them. It would be a good idea to take someone with you as a second pair of ears. I had a little notebook with questions in it and I would write information down too. My MO office prints off a 'depart' paper with my plan on it. Kind of like discharge instructions. While there are some very knowledgeable people on the boards and even some good site with info, you and your medical office all need to be on the same page.

That's my 2 cents even though you didn't ask for it.

Yep, back to Piper. I like the nickname. and now that my PMS has passed I am feeling a little more like myself.

Until next month when a new personality pops out.

enerva - i am so sorry...how's your sis? hope things are alright

pipers - lol, i love it.

i had a quite stressful week even i am on disability. the disability paper work took so long to get to the insurance company bc the orig form got lost in the mail. and my office asked one piece of the form at a time, so much delay and it stressed me out.Bawling

talked to my building to terminate the lease early bc i live too far. the bldg manager had no compassion whatsoever, i asked if i could get an exception and she said so many members of her family got cancer and i am not the only one. geeze, ppl are so heartless. i didn't know cancer is as common as a flu. i still can't believe the sh*t came out of her mouth.
