Hi Diane, looks like BigD hasn't posted anything since about thanksgiving. Redheaded got worried...and I don't blame her. I know Janis has talked with BigD...I'm hoping she can email or PM or call BigD and make sure all is ok...

morning all. busy place this thread. Been occupied nursing hubby back on his feet. He is doing better but it is still going to take more time.

Big D has not been even been lurking. At least before her last post she had been lurking. Very worried about her as well. Hope Janis makes contact.

Thinking of u all, hugs. Fran

We haven't heard from BIG D since Nov 27th....... I've pm'd her with no reply.

Do we have more than one Janis?

I think we only have 1 Janis...JustMeJanis. I guess it's possible that Joan811 might know how to contact her. Once we talked about making sure that at least one person knows how to reach us outside the board to avoid worry, but not sure BigD gave anyone info....

    Hi ladies,
I could contact Janis if she doesn't respond.  But I cannot contact BigD/Joan.
The last she said was that someone was coming to stay with her.  Let's hope she got busy with her companion and maybe started focusing on downsizing her life.  Maybe her circumstances had changed.  Am hoping for the best.
Birdgirl, as you can see, many of us are years out from radiation.  But we met here and remained friends so we keep in touch.
I also worked through rads but I had a few weeks off over January break to rest up after it ended.  I was so tired...and, like you, I had gained some pounds.  I think a lot of the fatigue is the emotional roller coaster coupled with driving every day.  I ate on the run.  But when I slept, it was good and long.  Especially on the week ends.  I remember swelling going down pretty steadily after rads, and soon I was feeling pretty "normal".  You are young and will bounce back, I am sure.  It is amazing how normal life can get....but we never really forget what we went through.  I did not realize how much I had pushed myself until after rads was over and I just crashed.  Your special student is very fortunate to have you.  It is good to have a purpose and a reason to keep going.  I hope you do will with Tamox.

It's late - am waiting for my grandson to arrive but it is late and I will probably go to bed before he gets here.  He has a new girlfriend so it will be nice to meet her.  I left a few rooms made up nicely ... but they will probably end up in his room which will drive my DH crazy but I am going with the flow ... he is almost 25.

We have a little snow on the way...then rain then back to snow.  I have no plans so it's fine.
    Happy week end...
    Joan

MostlySew- thanks. Sorry I should have checked to see when she posted last. I hope it's because she is really busy right now too. We all get used to posts even when they are random and with her medical issues there is reason for concern. I hope all of us have a contact person just n case. I do. It's unnerving esp since we lost Kate.

Joan - gotta say I would b just like your DH with the GFF and grandson doubling up....my son is 25 but it's my house. What he does outside this house is his business- not allowing it here. I'm pretty much on my own standing my moral ground but that doesn't bother me. To each his own.

Brookside.. Was it you who is going through radiation recall or was it someone else?  I have some questions if it was you.

Yep. I'm the one, Charger. It's not officially diagnosed, of course, but I have just a few little itchy bumps, similar to those I developed at the end of rads. The area is above my breast and below my collarbone, where the skin is thin and where the rads redness began. I noticed this after a bunch of radiation-producing tests in December.

I've been concerned about BigD for quite a while. I hope Janis will be able to tell us something, even if it is that she hasn't been able to reach her.

So u have those annoying itchy bumps! I sympathize. Mine is a pink flush, on my incision & for about 1 in around my areola. Last night I was getting the zingers. How does one tell if it is recall or skin mets or IBC? Anyone? Been reading , I don't think it is skin mets. I don't trust my GP to know the diff. My cancer center gave me the boot back to him when I was done active treatment. I will make an appointment with him. I 've had this since coming home from Mexico (Dec 6) just starting to get a tad worried. Don't know how long it should last. Thanks Fran

I too hope Janis can get ahold of BigD. But I have an uneasy feeling about this. Hope I am wrong.

Charger, I am with you I am scared of IBC every time I itch .  My best friends mom had it when were in college and ignored it too long.   Radiation recall is something I learned of here- they never mentioned it when I was in treatment.  I also asked my MO at the end, when she gave me the sheet telling how much total radiation I had received over the 40 days. what is the lifetime max of safe radiation ( I am sure there is one) and she told me you will receive what is medically necessary as determined by your doctors from here on out.  (Didn't tell me)....So I carry a copy of that durn sheet with me whenever I see a new doc....some of them could care less.

Janis was dealing with some serious dad issues, if I remember correctly.  I am just concerned that Big D may financially have had to move, or disconnect her internet, or worse....I am veryuneasy about her.  and where is LEMON????

70Charger...you should definitely see someone, but for me, I have those zingers even to this day, although very very rarely now (I'm over 3 years out of rads). I do still react to the sun though and my boob will feel like it's burning even if the sun's just thru the car window. I would think that being in Mexico in your case sort of aggravated the poor girl!

Brookside, I also think the tests/procedures you had caused the rads recall. When I had the 3d mammo this year, my breast skin burned and screamed for about 24 hours. I never looked for a rash on it though and then it calmed down. I hope yours does soon.

Janis...is the sun out yet? Come out and play. And call Joan for us if you can. Or give one of us her number and we'll call her as I know that phone calls can be very expensive......

I had fun yesterday....suddenly got a huge number of floaters in my eye so off to the Dr....fortunately I don't have a retina tear but do have some bleeding (minute). I am, of course, allergic to the eye dilation solution though, so my eye felt like someone had thrown sand in it and set it afire all evening. It's fine now, and being able to examine inside the eye is more important than some discomfort......Unfortunately, I now have just the biggest floater in my eye, right next to and surrounding half of my vision field. All the original dots have ganged up and it looks like some tangled yarn or threads from a shredded piece of fabric. Oh Joy. This too I get to learn to ignore!

    Hi all,
Awaiting the big monster snow storm here in the east.  My part of LI lies in the 20"+ zone on the snow map.  Work tomorrow, hoping that night classes will be canceled.  I know the County wants to salt down the roads early.
Brookside, how much snow are you expecting?
Diane, thanks for weighing in on the grandson & girlfriend issue.  It's complicated - he was living with a long term girlfriend after dating for 6 years...so when they came here last year, they stayed together.  But they broke up and now there is a new girl....DH and I felt uncomfortable but we did not come to a firm decision.  So today DH goes ballistics because it bothered him so much and he kept telling me off and was extremely hard on me and blamed me...I asked him why he did not talk to our grandson instead of telling me how he feels.  So now we are at odds.  And they have left so it is no longer an issue (until next time)

Sew, how is your mother doing?  I hope you are having a good week.

Gigi, enjoy Florida and you are not missing a thing back north!

Cindy, hope things are going well.

Josie, where are you?  Janis?  and Gemini?

I've been watching tennis - love the big matches.  But it's Australian Open and so it is on live all night long.  I've got the DVR on so I can go to sleep....
For all nor'easterners, please be safe and stay warm!

Joan, sorry I'm here. I've been lurking reading the posts but haven't felt much like posting. I have had some issues at work lately. Got written up for a mistake that I made. I was pretty hard on myself because I can't believe it happened. I blame the Tamoxofin . Some days you really have to work hard at concentration and I feel like I forget easier too. I saw my MO on Thursday it went well I guess. She offered me Effexor for the hot flashes or also said I could try Tumeric if I was against the Effexor. I've been having them almost nightly now but usually only 1 per night.

Yesterday I found out my Aunt was in the hospital again. This time more serious she is in intensive care. They said my mother (her sister couldn't visit ) but also they told her she may not make it. Why would you prevent your mother's sister from coming to see her for perhaps the last time? That's BS. I told her to go and she was able to see her. She wasn't as bad as they made it out to be but over high BP.Got to go to work. Will post more later.

So sorry, Josie. Well, we do mostly learn from our mistakes, so it's pretty durned unlikely you'll make that particular error again. Still, you must be so frustrated with yourself It's so difficult when things like this happen. With all that's been going on with your family, it's a wonder you can function at all.

Joan, I remember the boys and girls issue. I had three sons, arranged for boys and girlfriends to sleep separately upstairs and went to my own downstairs bed. Don't know what happened (Yes, I do, but that's unofficial). Eventually, I gave in. Anyway, they're all happily married, with kids, and have kids who will do exactly the same thing unto them in the future. Yes, as Helen Gurley Brown said, there is a law of retribution.

I already have cabin fever. Stayed home last Monday (snow) and Friday (hair appt), staying home today because it's supposed to start snowing at 1:00 and it's not worth driving 30 miles for just a couple of hours. I expect to be home tomorrow and probably Wednesday too. We're only expecting about a foot of snow, but I keep missing my opportunities to get my new tires, so I'm being pretty careful. And lazy.

    Has anyone PM'd Janis?

    It's quiet here...
Josie, so sorry for the glitch at work.  I remember making some errors on another job I had awhile ago.  I was mortified and the office manager covered it for me...but I never did it again.  It cost them money, too.  Try to focus (I say that 100 times a day to myself so I don't let my mind wander.)  I hope your aunt shows signs of recovery soon.  What a time you've had this past year.  Hang in there.

Sew, I had an incident at work where I turned on a black light while looking at it (it was new and I thought it had a cap but it was just painted)...I had terrible black floaters plus long stringy spidery things on one corner of one eye.  At night, they flashed brightly and when I was driving I thought it was headlights on my left.  Over time, they have subsided but not 100%.  Have you considered damage from some outside source?  Have you had cataract surgery?  I hope you can still do the things you like and need to do.  Bummer.....

Brookside, a foot seems like nothing to you!  Here, it is a serious issue if we have more than 5".  I don't now how much snow we'll get but it is already windy.  No classes tonight or Tuesday or Wednesday.  I am looking forward to cocooning...maybe organizing online photos or real photos (esp. if no power).

Am watching tennis; cooked a huge pot of chili, and we are pretty much set for whatever comes.  My DD in MA is in the worst zone for wind and snow amounts.  So glad she is not near the water.  DD in CT is near the water but should be OK.  Her ex is spending the night with them to help out and he has the 4WD for when the roads are driveable.

    Ahhh winter 2015 has arrived.

Stay warm and stay safe you Northeast ladies----here a little freezing mist enough to make me worry about walking and having to scrape the windshield.  Out to the bowling alley tonight, so hoping we do not get any flurries or added weather while I am inside there.

Brookside and Joan, thanks for sympathies. I'm not even so sure I did anything wrong. I can't be sure it was just assumed it was me. Oh well. Water under the bridge. Moving on now.

Joan, sounds like your ready for the snow. Chili...yummy.

Brookside, sounds like your smart to stay home.

    Stay safe everyone.

I hope you NE ladies are safe too. They have talked non-stop about the impending blizzard. Living in the south we don't have a lot of experience with that kind of weather and for me it's just as well because I am a scaredy cat when it comes to driving on ice or snow.

Josie - I think we have all been right where you are with agonizing over a mistake on a new job. I made a monster one my first week at FedEx. I was so embarrassed. It cost the company $ too. I got past it and of course you will too. Sorry about your aunt - hope she feels better. You have had a lot on your plate.

Joan - the debate about sleeping arrangements went on in my house too with my DH too. Of course it wasn't your fault. I played the hall monitor. My son has had a lot of kids stay at our house over the years and he had the entire upstairs to himself. Thing is sometimes they didn't need to be driving i.e., drinking so they stayed here. My husband just ignored the whole thing. Probably just as well considering I was a raving fish wife.

Now I know what radiation recall is and I'm wondering why my RO didn't talk about how much radiation I got. I didn't ask either though. I was told lung issues from rads could show up years later.

Btw one of the ladies in my group at church has lymphodema 2 years after her treatment. I remember my ONC saying I didn't want to get that. It is brutal. She is in such pain. She is or was very active but not now. I didn't realize it could happen years later.

Praying everything is okay with Janis and Joan and Lemon.

    Diane

I went to bed with a little snow cover and blowing snow...awoke to some big drifts at my doors and on the deck.  It is just getting light, so I will better be able to see what's going on.  Still snowing a lot and blowing too.  I thought of the cleanup crews during the night and how brutal this is for them.  I heard fire sirens this morning and thought there is no way emergency vehicles are going to get through most areas.  Scary.
No power loss in the greater NY area and Long Island.  I hope it stays that way.
I didn't mind waking early because I can just doze off any time I want today.  Snooze

I am going to look for Janis' # today...she's missing too long.

I hope everyone checks in here soon.

Hey everyone. Checking in to see how our ladies in the NE are doing. Joan, it sounds like things are going strong there. My sis who lives in Cohasset is in Texas where her husband works, right now. Her kids are all hunkered down in the Boston South Shore And Worcester area. They have had about 2 feet so far in Worcester. Freakish weather.

I was at the title company in Orlando yesterday trying to finish this unending closing. The women there were worrying about 30 degree wind chills here. It made me laugh a little, being from Minnesota. We had fun joking about it. One woman was from Boston, so she knows cold too. Stay warm and safe everyone

Hope you NE women are fine.  I heard that some areas have lost power...not a good thing with such low wind chill temperatures.  I think you are having a better day today.  Our temp was 1 degree this morning, but hoar frost made the trees so lovely!  I should have taken pictures.

Joan and Sew, I, too, have floaters and flashes.  When it first happened I thought it was another migraine.  I finally went to my eye doctor and he sent me to a specialist.  I had my eye numbed and he checked for a retinal tear.  I have posterior vitreous detachment.  It then happened to the other eye.  It has been two years and I still have floaters  and flashes at night.

    Good wishes to all !!

A friend on the what's for dinner board said she had 40 inches of snow in her backyard.   .......

The wind is blowing here about 30 mph and they are saying we could get either a couple inches or a lot depending on whether this storm on Sat/Sun goes across southern il or pushes across western Tennessee........If we get it it is supposed to be heavy and wet.......

Gigil, that's interesting...my DD from Cohasset (south shore Boston) was also in TX for the storm.  My SiL is making the most of the storm...he built a ramp for sledding from the deck.  So, DD was on business and could not fly home; so she went on to her next trip in Miami.  She is missing all the snow fun.  Says it's cool in florida - 60 maybe?

Ohio, that's cold!!  Sorry to hear you are dealing with the floaters and flashes too.  I know exactly how I got my damage.  A friend had similar damage from a snapping branch.  She told me how it slowly heals so I never got it checked.

I hope everyone is OK and will check in soon.

Ohio, yep, that's exactly what I have...vitreous detatchment and perhaps a very minute retinal tear. At first the Dr. could see a tear then he couldn't so decided it wasn't there. I think it sounds just like yours. The floaters have grown now, and sort of banded together......now it's like a molecular chart (like the ones with medical descriptions) only spinning with a sort of wave/wash of blurry stuff. Unfortunately it's just at my central vision point (the wave thing is actually over my direct vision) so I'm glad I don't have to take a vision test at DMV any time soon, Lol.

Hope everyone weathered the storm without problems.....

    Hi everyone!

Just caught up on posts in this thread - seems like I have been digging out at home (little over two feet of snow in NH where I live - some got 30 inches), digging out at work and trying to catch up out here reading posts!

Hey Josie - I know others have said it but it really stinks when things like that happen at work.  Hope you are feeling better about it and everyone can move on.

Floaters.....I have had those since I was young and never knew what they were until about 5 years ago!  If I squint my eyes, I can see them now as well.

Wanted to say hello to everyone and let you know that I come out almost every day and read your posts.

    Hi Yall!

Wow, the bitter cold in the NE...brrr!

It's 70 here. My you can tell locals and the Canadians...they are in shorts when it's 50 outside and the rest of us our all bundled up.

Red - hope you made contact with JANIS and BigD.

Josie - yikes, give yourself some grace at work. We all have our off days...breathe.

Joan - yippee visitors...that awkward bedroom situation...our house our rules...

GiGil - close and ready to move on...happy times in FL.

Brookside - did you defeat those balls! Glad your Boston trip went well and your credit card is in solid.

Sew, Ohio...floaters :))) I thought everyone had those little buggers floating in view.

Ready for the big game...I hope the commercials are better than last year..Luv the bud pup:)

Hubby is not doing well. Lost another 20#, in bed, out of it, daily infusions, and too weak to go back to USC. Wish they would admit him here and transfer him to USC ...but than the dreaded commute to LA...just want him well.

Ah, Cindy, I'm so sorry to hear about your hubby. I was hoping that with the no cancer diagnosis, he would be able to defeat the scar tissue, but apparently he's got a tough battle ahead. Hauling him in for daily infusions is certainly tough....but he does get puppy love in between. Sending good healing vibes your way.........((hugs))
