they sent me the same exact email reply. I wrote again and asked them how big a donation as when pink is featured so prominently on the box people expect something big. Needless to say no response.

    Hi all,

I know many of you know about Sharsheret:

Sharsheret | Your Jewish Community Facing Breast Cancer

1086 Teaneck Rd, Suite 3A, Teaneck, NJ 07666

    866 474 2774 | 201 833 2341

    www.sharsheret.org

They recently did an excellent free webinar on genetic issues/concerns about breast cancer. They invited people to call them if their questions weren't answered. I did and I was so impressed--they got back to me right away and were able to answer my question. I volunteer with the Metastatic Breast Cancer Network so I asked about resources to share. They have telephone support groups and will speak to you individually if you need someone to talk to, too.

The founder of Sharsheret has mets. She spoke at this conference last year:

I asked about breast cancer resources/groups in Israel, here is what they sent:

English it looks like it is there in full....

Ive heard of Sharsheret and checked out their site, interesting stuff.

I was shocked to learn (after my dx) of the connection for Jewish Ashekanzi heritage and brca mutation. 1 in 40. Terrible. I got tested for the 3 points for that trait (not the full brca panel) and found out this week Im negative. so yay, but I dont think enough Jewish women realize this connection.

    englishmajor,

Your seems to be there in full. Thank you! Although some women of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage may not know about the braca connection, many doctors do and should be asking about this at routine exams or if a woman presents with a problem.

When I was first Dx, my onc recommended that I be tested for the BRCA1 and 2.....I had the multi-site 3 testing and thank G-d it was negative.

I've been involved with Sharheret for several years. I'm a "Link"..... Rochelle Shoretz is amazing.

hope everyone is doing well. Karen

EM, don't know what happened but I'm glad your post is back. Thank you for the post!

I've heard of One in Nine and Tishkofet and that they do wonderful work. I heard someone from Hadadi speak recently; she was very knowledgeable and compassionate. I will be getting in touch with them soon.

As for Beit Natan - I have been getting help and support from them almost from the time I was diagnosed. The staff and volunteers are all angels. I can't say enough good things about them.

My closest friend's cousin needs your prayers. His name is Samuel. He is 7. His mom is a rabbi, and has a most heart-wrenching blog. Well, it wasn't heart-wrenching until the last two entries. It was so full of hope. But the bone marrow transplant wasn't enough for his ninja disease. If you have a moment, you can read about him and his family. I just can't tell the story like she does; and it makes me weep to even try.

I am a Ashekanzi Jew. Myself, my sister, my mother all BRCA1 positive, all have had breast cancer. I even have an uncle who had breast cancer at age 88. He too carries the gene. A lot of my family has been tested and it is so random who is positive and who is negative.

    Hello All-

This high holidays is when I was going through surgery for my BC. This Chanukah seems so surreal for me. I live in a small community and there is only 5 Jewish families around me. I’m so glad I found this group.

I realize not everyone on this thread is American, and not all American Jewish people celebrate Thanksgiving ...

...with those qualifiers, this year: Happy Thanksgivukkah!

One of my uncles, who hosts because his is the only house big enough, wants to make latkes. Latkes with turkey dinner?

FairyDogMother, I hope you especially have a nice holiday. I live in a metro area, but I was the only MOT all the way through elementary and middle school so I do have some understanding of the isolation. Best to you.

I just got approved for 1 glass of red wine a week, so I’m doing it on Gobble Tov the 2nd night of Hanukkah. I can’t taste anything while I”m on chemo, so I might just do the cheap stuff :)

Welcome Fairy...glad you found us, but wish you didn't have to!!! Enjoy your glass of wine!!!!

Wishing everyone a Happy Chanukah and to the USA gals, Happy Thanksgiving!!! I'm making Thanksgiving dinner at my house...its the 4 of us, my mother and another couple who we've been doing Thanksgiving together at my house for 5 or so years......we are a small group of 7

Even though Thanksgiving is the 1st day of Chanukah...well by the time we eat dinner, it will be the 2nd night, I'm not doing any Chanukah foods for Thanksgiving....just the traditional turkey day foods....Turkey, stuffing, yams, green bean casserole, cranberries, pecan and pumpkin pie.....I'll make latkes either for Shabbat dinner or Sunday night...they are a once/year item....I've tried making sufganiot a couple times, but not sure if I will this year. The friends who are coming are making cranberry sufganiot...not sure I will have any.....but that is what they wanted to bring!!!

    hi ladies-

I'm new to this group too! Happy thanksgiving and Hanukkah!

Englishmajor - thanks for the link on http://www.sharsheret.org/. I never heard of them before, I'll check it out.

I was lucky my insurance paid for the braca test, I'm thankfully negative.

Susan - it's a small world, I heard about Superman Sam from a friend in my town. Reading the blog is inspiring and even though many of us are personally suffering, we are not experiencing that mother's pain.

Today I was diagnosed with lung cancer.  This is my 3rd primary cancer.  I had melanoma 20 years ago, breast cancer 3 years ago and now lung cancer!  It appears to be stage 1 and is potentially curable.  I will be having surgery on 12/18.  If the nodes are negative, as they appear to be on scans, I won't need chemo or radiation therapy. The surgeon said that chest surgery is much more painful than mastectomies, so I am a bit nervous.  My Hebrew name is Devora Pessa bat Chava.

Oh, Pessa, I am so sorry to hear this. I hope the surgery goes smoothly and that it's the only treatment you need. Make sure your surgeon orders lots of painkilling drugs.

    I'll be davening for you.

THANK YOU all for your good wishes and prayers on my behalf. To add to the emotions of the day, yesterday my older son joined the Israeli army. He has been living in Israel for the past year and a half and finally was drafted. I am, of course, very proud of him, but nervous nonetheless. I told him about my surgery and diagnosis, but made light of it so as not to interfere with his concentration in the army.
