I fell asleep after work today- still a bit dozey.

Cute kitten, Shazza. I guess he'll be rehomed in a month. Hard to part with? Or are you glad to see them go, they're a lot of work :)

Our latest addition to the family is a baby mallard duck. One of our cats brought him inside unharmed, so now my daughter is mum. I hope he goes back to the wild when he's big enough! We've had him a couple of weeks now.

Work wasn't too bad weather wise this morning but it sure is windy & unpleasant now. Looking forward to calmer, drier weather.

    Have a good arvo :)

another wet day. I'm still all snuggled up with the kitten. Have to remember I have to go to work this morning.

The facial yesterday was lovely. It was a voucher I was given for my birthday. Such a treat. Especially as chemo makes my skin so dry. I also had some acupuncture for nausea. Hope it works. Things have settled down a bit since they upped my steroid dose so here's hoping.

It's fabulous Friday at last hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm working tomorrow but only a fairly short shift.

I love kittens, not too sure about fostering a duck though. We have a grumpy old cat, who gives my dog such a hard time. Funny to watch, but Stuart is going to lose an eye one of these days.

Had to go to the hospital yesterday with my very sore ulcerated mouth. Turned out to be mucositis (sounds delightful) and they found that I have an infection in my port incision. I didn't think that was healing properly. There doesnt seem to be much they can do for my mouth except Difflam and some oral gel (and lots of vanilla ice cream), but I got antibiotics for my port infection. If I can't get it sorted out then they may pospone my next chemo or reduce the dose.

Did any of you have mouth problems?

kiwi what a bummer about your mouth and the port infection. I haven't had too many mouth problems but it was suggested to me when it looked like I might get some to use vitamin E capsules. You pierce them and squirt the liquid in your mouth on the sores. Very good forhealing wounds and tissue repair. Could be worth a try

Gorgeous, Shazza :) Taken in bed I guess. Hope work is not too tiring today.

I was lucky enough to only have short lived mild mouth symptoms so I'm no help to you Kiwi. My onc did say equal measures of baking soda & salt in boiled water (cooled when you gargle) is good. Hope you fell better soon.

I love the name Stuart for a dog, so funny. Our kids named one if our goats Kevin.

Well, I'm going to drag myself off to Pilates. I always feel better for going, tho it's hard to muster the energy sometimes...

    Have a good day

Kiwi very cute. I work at a vets so we have a few animals that I have rescued but no dog as we rent. I would so love one though. At the moment we have 3 cats, 1 lop eared bunny and the foster kitten.

My daughter loves dressing him up and he puts up with it. He's a real baby, but great company for me working at home.

What cute pets you have! I want the kitten. :) We already have more than we're allowed, however. The doggie in dress up is adorable. Since we rent, no dogs for us either.

For mouth sores, have you asked your MO for "magic mouthwash"? I know it sounds like I'm being silly, but that's what it's called in the US. It's usually a specially formulated mouthwash to help with mouth sores. My mom had thrush in her mouth during chemo (we called it the alien...Linda Blair in the Exorcist had nothing on Mom) and the MO gave her magic mouthwash and it helped a lot. Ditto a couple of other friends on chemo. http://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/chemoth...

Really feel for those of you going through chemo; cannot be fun at all.

    Wishing everyone a nice weekend!

Aw I want the kitten and the dog also, too cute!!! Well no wonder I have been feeling so unwell, actually spent the weekend in bed planning my funeral. I just found out I have had campylobacter. Back at work today and still a bit shakey but so incredibly happy that I've only had food poisoning and not anything worse. Kiwi I'm sorry you have had such a bad experience and I really hope you start feeling a bit better soon. I really am going to have to get my water sorted out. We drink bore water and rain water and it is very suspect looking sometimes. My daughter had campylobacter a few months ago but we blamed chicken from McDonalds. Now it looks like it's been our water source the whole time. Hope everyone is okay xxx Donna.

Hi Donna - funny to say "congrats on having food poisoning!" :) Kind of like when everyone was happy I had arthritis...much better than progression, but sounded funny to have people say "happy you have arthritis!" So glad it's not cancer, but sorry your bore has problems.

We went to the Sweet Louise high tea at Kirkaldie and Stains in Welly yesterday. It was lovely. Seems like a nice group of women.

All I really have to say is...Come on Summer! I'm over the cold and rain!

Hope you're feeling better Donna- campylobacter doesn't sound fun.

Its nice to meet others in a similar situation isn't it Terre. Shame we have to be there at all, but at least we're not alone :)

Well, 2 more half days & we'll be done painting the outside of the house :) It looks good & feels good to be nearly done (if the weather plays ball). I'm tired though, but will be good to get done.

Hope you all have a good day. I need to run my son in to his Physics exam (also not his favourite subject!)

Hi everyone. I'm having my first mammogram since diagnoses tomorrow at the Manukau Superclinic I am so nervous I can feel the tension building. Then on the 4th of December I am having an MRI at Auckland Hospital. I think I may need to start taking tranquilisers. It's been nearly 1 year since my diagnoses which was actually in January, hard to believe how time flies. This has been the crappiest year of my life and I can't wait until New Years Eve. I plan to get very drunk (which will mean having 2 drinks as I normally don't drink). It will be my birthday on the 1st of January as well, terrible day for a birthday if you ask me. I am trying my best to be positive and imagining what a great Christmas it will be if I am all clear. Just don't feel very positive on the inside. My bad tummy has nearly cleared up though. The Doctor gave me Erythromycin to clear up the Camphylobacter. This year has been a real roller coaster ride for me. How are you all doing? Kiwi hows the mouth?

    Hi everyone

I haven't logged on in a while and it's been busy around here.

Congratulations Ange on your wedding.  I love your dress! It's gorgeous and can certainly be worn again.

Shazza - sorry to hear your nauseous and hope they can get things sorted with meds.

Fizzdon - good luck with mammogram.

I'm feeling a bit down today.  3 years ago when I was diagnosed I met a great group of ladies on this website and we all eventually transitioned to a Facebook group.  The Facebook group is really active and we chat multiple times a day. Yesterday a second member of the group passed away.  It really brings home the scary reality of this stupid disease.  Where's the freakin cure? What's the point of all this pink and fundraising if we're no closer to a cure?  Sorry for the vent :(

oh Kiwimum - that is so sad to hear that! How many in your Group including the two who passed? Not good news......

Hi there everyone!  I'm still lurking around this place, keeping up with your progress, pleased that things are going (ok) for all of you.  KiwiMum I too have become very active in a FB group that I met here.  They are all mostly from the US so I'm a little different - but we have all really connected.  Hubby and I are planning a holiday over there in 2016!  My recovery is going well - having a few issues with memory and recalling words that just escape me. Just had a bloodtest ordered by new GP for everything, just to see if something's lacking. Also having a mocka test for my memory. GP says to just ease my mind that I'm normal.  Going to access some counselling also as I've had a quite a few meltdowns. Keep on keeping on ladies!

JoTro - my group are mostly US based too. There is one other kiwi, based in Dunedin and one lady from Wales. The rest are mostly the East Coast of the States. I would love to head over and meet them one day. In particular I'm very close to a couple of the ladies.

Your trip will be wonderful I'm sure. You are certainly entitled to meltdown!

Kruise - there were about 20 of us who transitioned to FB. Since then the group has grown to about 40 with newcomers being introduced by others and/or stumbling across the largely Inactive group on here.

Good luck with the mammogram and upcoming MRI, Fizz. Scanxiety....I think it hits most of us. I'm a bit of a basket case for a week or so before and then until I get the results.

Kiwimom - sorry to hear of your friend passing. It' so damn hard. And I agree...where's the cure! I know most of the women in the Stage IV bone mets thread hate the whole "think pink" campaign. Only about 1% of funds raised to go helping us Stage IV people live longer. That said, there are a lot of new things happening every day, so staying optimistic.

Hope tomorrow is a good day for everyone!

Hi girls was going to do a fly by but decided to say something.

Kiwimom it is so hard and doesn't get any easier. I am 7 and a half years out and have lost so many friends and can recall days when I have cried for hours when a particular friend has died. The group that I started with got down to a solid group of about 12 and of those over the 7 plus years we have lost about half. Then there are others I have met on other BCO threads along the way, clicking with them and being friends. Have a couple of FB groups and they too have lost members. Sometimes I wonder about being involved in them but always go back to see how folks are but then I have had several really good friends and many acquaintances here in NZ die because of cancer. I really find the online threads have helped me through this disease and helped keep me sane. I have made some wonderful friends and have visited many on trips overseas. Chrissy is one and she came here on the way home from an incredible trip meeting with BCO folk. We really do need each other because no matter how hard you try explain somethig to even a goof friend they just never really get it..

I hate the pink thing as well. We are lucky here that we have a Breast Cancer Foundation and a BC Research Council who are trying to make a difference and that money that goes to them is used correctly, I think most people are aware of BC but it is a cure we need.

    Enough from me

    Big big hugs to all.

    Hi all.

I hope the mammo goes well today, Fizzdon. They're always a little nerve wracking.

Sorry about your friend Kiwimum :( & Alyson. That's the side of BC nobody likes for sure.

I hope you're feeling better, Shazza. Nausea is the pits.

I'm still in bed- was planning to go shopping in the big smoke for a dress to wear to my hubby's work do in a couple of weeks & a wedding early next year- but I don't know if I've got the energy.

    Take care

Good for you Shazza. Sounds like you need it. Are you over the nausea yet?

    Cute kitten :)

My daughters duck follows her about (when the cats aren't around) very cute but he's a bit messy- pooping and flicking food about. It will be good when he can stay outside. I'd post a pic but I'm not tech savvy.

I'm having a quiet day too - just a little bit of laundry & dishes. Back to work tomorrow.

    Feel better soon :)

fizz I hope the Mammogram went ok yesterday.

Still feeling nauseous and so over it. Ive dragged my arse out of bed and off to work. Hopefully the distraction will make me feel better.

Hi there - the Mammogram did go well thanks, the actual procedure went fine, when I went into the waiting room to wait to see the doctor the nurse came and told me they were too busy to see me as they were doing a biopsy and I would have to wait 40 minutes, my heart went out to the lady having the biopsy. So I went back to work and she promised to phone me which she did and said everything looked good. Trouble is they also told me that 2 years ago when I had a lobular mass they couldn't see. I am hoping that now they are aware I have had lobular breast cancer, they know what to look for now? I'm having an MRI on the 4th of December as well so that is reassuring I guess. I feel sorry for you feeling so nauseous Shazzakelly, there is nothing worse. Hopefully work will take your mind of it but it must be hard working when you feel like crap. I had to work last Wednesday when I was having cramps from Camphylobacter and it wasn't much fun. I was really worried that if I farted I might shit myself hahaha, which I did, but that's another story....

    kt1966 Member Posts: 1,021

Bugger, Shazza. I hope you get rid of the nausea soon, or at least find something that deals to it! Hope work works :)

Fizzdon, glad your mammo was ok :) phew! It's good you're having an MRI- it will give you more peace of mind. Bummer about the 'farts'!

I've finished work- hooray- here's to the weekend :D My parents have finished painting the house too :) I was too tired to help with the last day, but it's done apart from a few touch ups!

    Have a good weekend

Everyone thanks for understanding.  I was talking it through with my husband the other night and said when you are part of a group who all have cancer in common, I guess it's inevitable that this will happen.  Doesn't make it any easier though.

Her husband has been in contact with the group to say that we were her anchor in the storm and he's so grateful for that.  I'm pleased that we could be there for them both.

On a brighter note!  It's Friday ... YAY!

I'm off to see Hunters & Collectors (the Aussie pub band) at the Powerstation tonight.  A good friend talked me into going with her.  I thought why not as my husband had bought tickets for him and a few mates.  Last night my friend pulled out (grrrr!!) so now it's me and the boys, and a band I'm not that familiar with.  I would so rather be home on the couch watching Downton Abbey on my MySKY, but as the ticket is paid for and the babysitter is booked, I'm going!

    Hi Everyone.

Sorry to hear that you're still battliing the nausea Shazza. I can only imagine how draining that must be.

I've been a bit quiet lately. The mouth ulcers really knocked me around for a full week (but had no other chemo side effects). I wasn't able to swallow without getting tears in my eyes, and lost the few kilos that I had gained on the steriods. They finally started to disappear on Thursday, which I assume was a sign that my immunity was getting back to normal. I finished the antibiotics for the port infection, but I dont think that they have completely taken care of the infection. I think I will ring them today and see if they can take a look. I don't want Wednesdays chemo to be put off if I can help it.

Hair just about gone. I got it shaved at the wig place last week and I am pleased that I did, as my scalp has been so tender all week.

Sorry for moaning, hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. Both of my kids have finished their exams so there is a lot less stress in my house thank goodness!

Glad the mouth is a bit better Kiwi1996. And glad your kids finished exams! Good luck with the port and upcoming chemo.

I go see my MO on Wednesday afternoon. Just a routine checkup to see how I'm doing and plan next year's scans.

I'm so so so ready for summer!
