Shari - waiting is the worst part. Good to be working and keeping busy. Like oudamnedspot says, treat yourself to something special this week end.

I scared ladies.. Really really scared.. In a dark place today.. People at work celebrating upcoming vacation and a coworkers marriage and I have cancer and surgery in my future

Oh Shari - wish I had a magic wand to make you feel better. You will be planning vacations and marriage plans in the future. You are just on a different time schedule. Do your best to help them celebrate. They will (and we will) be there when its your turn.

Well, Shari, before my lumpectomy, I had a pedicure and my hair cut. (I didn't have chemo)
I also made some extra food for the freezer and did a thorough grocery shopping. Got all the laundry done and put away. Had my 3 BFFs over for dinner one night and got pleasantly buzzed.
I just kept busy, 'puttering' around to help pass the time. Not too exciting, but it worked! I had to work the day before so that helped too. Anything to keep busy is my recommendation.

Shari, you're the age of my daughter, and I know how you're feeling. Outdamnedspot gave some very good advice. Why not treat yourself to a spa day and a relaxing massage the day before? Maybe a family member or friend can go with you to make it extra special. As far as the surgery, you will be a little uncomfortable when waking up afterwards, but they control the pain well with medication, and it never becomes unbearable. You are younger than most of us here, and should recover faster. As long as I was still in active treatment, I felt as if I was not part of normal society, as if I was an outsider looking in. As my hair grew back, I was not recognizable as a ca patient any more. As I got physically stronger, it made me mentally stronger and more confident too. I began to feel part of humanity again, normal again. There is an end to this. You will get there. THIS TOO SHALL PASS!!! Big hugs to you!!!

Dang Believe I'm sorry you have to wait until Monday. That's tough. What are you baking today? What ever it is I'm sure it will be delicious.
Shari, I'm sure it must be really hard hearing all the plans others are making but like everyone said you will have your big day, your vacations and all that stuff too just sucks that you have to go thru this bc stuff 1st. I don't know about the others but I use all this "I had cancer stuff" as an excuse to reward myself with things now more often than I used to. Seems like a great excuse right? I know you said "surgery" but I can't remember if you are having the a lumpectomy or mastectomy and the nodes. Regardless, you might want to "busy" yourself this week making sure you will have access to everything you might need when you get home after surgery. You probably won't be able to reach up high for a few so get things down that are up high, you won't be able to lift heavier things so get anything heavier that you might want access to within arms reach, make sure you have some comfy clothes maybe some oversized button front shirts lined up, some stool softeners incase the anesthesia makes going tough afterwards, magazines to look thru, etc. I found that when I started doing those types of things the week before my surgery, the time went really fast because I was more worried that I wouldn't have time to finish "getting ready" rather than dwelling on the surgery itself. I am such a sweet-aholic that I actually bought a Cheesecake Factory Red Cake that I had eyeballed and passed on many times before and put it in the freezer so we could eat it when I felt good enough to celebrate having surgery overwith. You wouldn't believe how fast I felt better so I could break into that cake. lol. We have all been where you are and believe us when we say for the most part, the waiting and worrying was worse than the actual surgery. So try "getting ready" and it will be surgery time before you know it! Look for clothes with great big pockets because we will definitely all be there.

2Fried...great advice about moving things to lower levels. And the other things you mentioned too
0 -
2 Fried - Baking peanut butter cookies, sugar cookies to decorate later and Anisette cookies. Now you know how I handle stress. The hard part is hiding everything before my husband gets home from golf! After cleaning up my mess, I get to clean the excess flour off our floors. I will be busy for hours!

2FriedEggs, I especially love the cake-in-the-freezer advice - what a great idea, and what an incentive to get better! I'm going to remember that when I go for the DIEP surgery in May. Thanks!
Believe, your cookies sound yummy! Enjoy! I am going to cook mango chutney now. Ate it last week with grilled fish at a restaurant when on holiday, loved it, found a recipe on the Internet, bought the mangoes, so here goes.

Outdamnedspot I didn't see your post until mine was up; lol sounds like we were definitely thinking alike before our surgeries; general putter to kill time-shopping cooking, laundry etc all except for the over-imbibing with your bffs! lol (I remember checking in for surgery the nurse said what about alcohol; I said what about it? She got this stern look on her face and said "well how many alcoholic drinks would you say you had this week?" I was thinking about it and just getting ready to answer when my surgeon walked in, winked at me and said to the nurse, "Don't worry about it, I know she couldn't have drank more than her doctor drank this week, so she's good" LOL The drill seargant nurse didn't know what to say to that so she moved on.

2Fried... priceless what your doctor said - love it. Like you I also use my 'I had cancer' as an excuse to spend more on me....and DH doesn't bat an eyelid.
Shari - great advice from 2 Fried.... also it was suggested to me to wear 'silky' pj's as it is easier to slide in and out of bed - works too.
Believe.... you look so slim, but cook all these wonderful sweet things. Do you cook for you or something else - did I miss a post ??

Darn you Believe sounds wonderful! I can't believe you can make all that and not want to eat it! I handle stress partly the same only I bake what I want to eat and there are not too many exceptions! Cleaning up the flour isn't so fun just make sure you don't spill any water on it and make paste.
Liefie, lol I feel bad I'm not a very good influence am I. But you bet I was thinking about that cheesecake from the minute I walked in the door. If the dang painpills hadn't put me to sleep so quick I'd have probably managed to feel good enough to demolish it the 1st night home! But you definitely need to hide a treat in the freezer to celebrate when you get home. How long do yu have to stay in the hospital with that?
As for the mango chutney I love it on salmon. My husband will only eat salmon if it's camoflaged and that does the trick. Another one of the restaurants here serves a wonderful cobb salad and they substitute lobster salad on top for the turkey/chicken then they make a mango chutney dressing that is wonderful.
Now you both have my mouth watering-how will I ever lose weight when I have no willpower; I need to go find a hypnotist or something

Geez you lot, I leave you for a day and all I read about is baking cakes and cookies.
Is it time for another pep talk?😋😷😎 May I remind you that Tazzy's weigh in is coming
up😱
Believe, so sorry about your postponement.....that sucks!!!!
Shari sweet girl, I can only imagine how you feel listening to everyone making wonderful arrangements. I had just a little of what you are going through last summer. I had made plans to go home to Scotland and then down to London to spend some time with my niece and take in so e of the Olympic events......didn't happen ....just finished rads,
was exhausted, emotional and ready for a bit of breakdown. All around me teachers were talking about all the exotic places they were taking off to and there was me in the midst of a meltdown. Well, here I am planning to go to a big wedding in a couple of months and go home to Scotland for a vacation and a few other things. It will happen to you also....not this summer perhaps but soon. Hang in there.. Good times are a comin 💃 ❤0 -
Ps....welcome SwgeeWi.....good luck keeping up with this lot.....lol

2FriedEggs, PS said I'll be in hospital for 3 - 4 days if there are no complications. In the meantime I will be checking out which cake I want. Probably something gooey with lots of caramel and chocolate!
Scottiee, did you not see me in the gym this morning? After yoga class did an abs and butt bootcamp with 20 different stations. The trainer chased me through that circuit, and I've been lying on the couch ever since I came home . . . will hardly be able to move a muscle tomorrow. Did not see that coming, and there's probably more of those in my future. Well, I should probably be grateful that I did not pass out or puke on the gym floor . . .LOL.

Liefie.....way to go.....you exhausted me just reading your post.....I will be feeling your pain tomorrow......lol

Shari - all I can say is hang in there and I agree with what everyone else has already said. I am sending you big hugs also. I remember I was just like you are now before my surgery, but I just stayed busy and surgery came faster for me.
Believe - I am sorry your appt was postponed, but at least it is not too far away. I will be in your pockets Monday!
Chrisrenee - I will be in your pockets tomorrow.
Take care everyone else and hugs to those that need them.
I have been having trouble with my shoulder since surgery, but it had gotten much worse lately. I talked with my BS and they have referred me to PT. I gone on April 1st. More waiting. Hopefully it will help and get better quickly.
Have a good night everyone!0 -
momof3- After your BMX did your BS send you home with stretching exercises? I was sent home with 8 different ones that i had to do 4-6 times A DAY! That crap hurt like hell, i will not lie, but I had full range of motion back in 4 weeks when i went back to work. Your PT will give you all the exercises when you go there. It will be so beneficial for you to do the exercises as suggested. I always took a pain pill prior to doing them because it hurt so much. Don't give up on it.

Stole from another group i'm on:

Chrisrenee - I had a lumpectomy and 3 nodes removed. They did not give me any exercises and I felt not to bad at that point. I have had minor mobility problems from the start but they have gotten worse since radiation and my hysterectomy surgery in January. I know it will hurt, but in the end it will be worth it.
I also love the latest cartoon. I may have to use that technique when we go to NC next month. HaHa!!!!!0 -
Scottiee...where in Scotland are you from or going to?
DH's dad was born in Kilmelford, south of Oban near Loch Melfort. He has cousins in Stirling and Edinburgh...I love it there and would like to go back. Have been twice. The first time we took our kids when they were 12 and 15 to meet their elderly aunts and uncle. Good thing we did, as they all passed away the following year. Went back 4 years ago for our 25th anniversary and spent 8 days driving around seeing that beautiful country. Such a peaceful place IMHO.

Outdamnedsp....I'm from Glasgow.....have been to Oban many times as well as Stirling and Edinburgh. Nice thing about Scotland is that it is small so you can get to see many places in a short period of time. Did you ever go up north to places like Inverness?....
Totally spectacular, if you get the weather of course, which is always an issue in Scotland.0 -
momof3- I want to see pics if you use that technique. haha when do you go for your PT eval?
0 -
We did go to Inverness as DH grandfather is buried there but we couldn't find the cemetary. We went to Isle of Skye before Inverness and then over to Aberdeen. Spent some time in the Kingdom of Fife...love that name. Golfed at the Fairmont course in St. Andrew's and then stayed in Edinburgh for two nights at cousin's place.
My FIL (deceased) was born in an inn in Kilmelford...Cuilfail hotel and we stayed there both times to see where he spent his early years while his dad was away in WWI. Next time we go, we will have to spend more time in Glasgow and the southern part. Both times (May and August) we had great weather...temps of 25C and up! Almost too hot as most places we were at did not have AC.

On vacation tomorrow so will check in occasionally and on FB too. Love the cartoon ... Have been doing that for years.
Trying to read all but missing some ... Thinking of you Shari.
Momof3 ... I went through PT after surgery and during rads and again later ... Good luck.
Chrisrenee, in your pocket ...0
