French guys.... drunk guys....?? If I can chase after anything I'd be happy - may not be able to catch 'em though
Stride: As for pristine language.... good fuck never hurt anyone - if you know what I mean. Funny story.... my sister and I really do have language like sailors.... to me its just another word - anyway we, Mum, me and my Sis were playing scrabble and me and Jo said "OK lets play it but you can only use swear words' from that day on, my Mum also has a potty mouth. Funny thing to be proud of. I am so sorry you have lost your cat - so sad when our furbabies die.
Chemo/Radiation brain. I liken my brain to Swiss cheese these days - and there are times at work when it just stops working. I can be in the middle of a project and suddenly it just doesn't work.... very frustrating.
Ramols: had a great visual of you in a scrum.
Hugs all... love you guys xx

Melissa - sorry to hear about your dog, I like Tazzy's story
Stride - sorry to hear about your cat, sending hugs
Enjoyed everyone's bios, here is mine - not very exciting, I am not as well travelled as many of you
Name-Laura
Age-55, birthday 4/2
Married-Yes, 31 years September 4th, spent the 30th anniversary day having chemo, we plan to make up for this on the 31st anniversary
Siblings – 3 of 4 siblings deceased by the time I was 23
Children-Yes – 4 boys, DS – 29, DS – 27, DS – 25, DS – 18 (oops!), 3 grandchildren – 1 girl, 2 boys – soon to be 4 at the end of June – another girl to even things up
Pets-none of our own but we now have a granddog that we ‘sit’ regularly
Current residency-Calgary
Grew up in-Calgary
College-nursing degree, working on business analyst certificate
Current/Past Occupation-land records secretary/supervisor for oil company during grade 12 and for a year after graduating high school; as a nurse worked in Emergency 10 years, Day Medicine 10 years and Day Surgery for 7 years before being recruited by IT to help implement electronic health record. My initial role was leading a training team for 4 years, I was then asked to be a business analyst working with new facilities/areas and old areas new to electronic health record.
It seems a lot of us have found our way into IT roles.
Fun Facts-while not the most athletic person I did make the grade 9 volleyball team – I had a wicked serve. I warmed the bench the majority of the time and never played on the left hand side of the court – I would be subbed in right before our turn to serve, serve, when our team lost the serve I would be subbed out by the coach as soon as possible afterwards.
During the summers while I was a teenager and while taking nursing I would work for a temp agency as a secretary during the weekdays and slept over for a nurse who worked nights and had two small girls. I was paid for sleeping and had a bonus of a pancake breakfast every Saturday morning with the girls

Cmbernardi, Happy Birthday month!
Melissa, Hugs to you during this difficult time.
Stride sorry about the kitty, I have a 16yr old cat that is getting skinnier every month so I am pretty sure our time is coming soon as well.
All you canadian gals, make sure you do get locked up in Chicago chasing French guys, I still want to meet you.
Mcook, hope you've been getting your runs outside done since I saw your forecast for 6-9 inches of snow tomorrow. Yikes. Keep it up there please. Hard to believe we had 90 degrees here yesterday, all downhill the rest of the week.
Websister, it is amazing how many end up in IT that never planned to.
Happy Hump day to everyone!

Great to see the bios of so many of you. Now if I can just remember even some of it!
Believe, my daughter loves the bracelet you sent her and wanted to let you know too how much she likes the fact that it fits and does not roll around. Thank you so much yet again!
Swgee, from what I can see, Mindfulness is best done as a guided practice, at least to get started. I saw one of the teachers at our cancer agency yesterday as there is a short visit to ensure that participants will fit in. I am in my 7th year of yoga and have done some meditation courses before but never really "practiced" on a regular basis even when I was going downhill a few weeks ago. The course I will be taking (8 two hour sessions~~weekly and one all day session) is called Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Cancer Recovery and it was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn out of the U Of Mass Medical Center. So you could look for books by him and also ask if there is a course in your center or area. If you want, send me a PM and I will send you you the list of sugggested reading in a handout I was given yesterday.
Marian, age 64, BD 17/2/49
Born in Vancouver, BC now living in Vancouver
Married~~30 years Oct. 15
Kids~~DD (27) DS (24) DS (20)
I was a nurse long ago but due to a move to Saudi Arabia in 1991, where I could not practice, that was the end of that career. We lived in Indonesia from 87-89 and I had our second child in Singapore (IVF program there) then moved to Saudi in 1991 and had our third child there.
We did a lot of travelling from Saudi and our kids adapted to travel very early. In 1996 we bought a 39 foot catamaran and had it delivered to Turkey as it was only 4 hours by plane from Saudi. We spent part of most summers with our kids sailing in Turkey and Greece. We have been back in Canada 4 years and the plan was to sail across the Med starting this week and gradually make our way to the Canaries and sail across the Atlantic in late November. Well BC changed that plan and so my husband and different friends will be doing the trip and my DH leaves June 17 just about the time I will be finished rads. I hope to be able to "drop in" somewhere along the route for a few weeks at some point but as all you know, it is day to day while in treatment.
While in Saudi, I did many volunteer jobs but loved being a stay at home mom. I started to lead tours and treks to the Himalayas in 2004 and am still doing it, though my fall, 2012 Annapurna trek and a tour to Sikkim were derailed also by BC. I did a high altitude trek to Mustang up near the Tibet border in Nepal last May with old friends from our Saudi days so when diagnosed two months later, I was in pretty good shape which I do think has helped. Now though, I am working towards regaining some of that strength. If any of you are interested, the following for me, is both a goal and a reward:
Adventure Nepal 2014
Marian’s Inaugural Breast Cancer Survivor Trek
Annapurna Base Camp/Kathmandu/Chitwan National Parkhttp://samsarajourneys.com/fixed_departure_adventure_nepal.php
Also I am quilter and my daughter is coming over to work on her first quilt very soon and I am still in my pj's so best move on!
Hugs to you all!
Marian

Marian - love your bio
Joanne - thanks re: avatar. Guess I still have a ways to go - I was called 'sir' the other day by the checkout clerk at Costco
Have a good day everyone, it's nice and sunny here today0 -
Websister, that checkout clerk needs glasses, for sure. You're not even close to a man with that beautiful porcelain skin of yours - lol! Like your new avatar too.
Marian, I sincerely hope you can join DH on the cat for part of the way over. Will be lovely to feel the sun on your skin, the wind in your hair, smelling the ocean, and just be . . . As you get stronger physically, you will get stronger mentally too, and feel way less vulnerable. My memory has also become much better than it was right after chemo when I was really a hopeless case; not struggling so much anymore to remember things a year out. At least that is my experience. You have a wonderful goal in place, and you must be one strong woman to be able do that. Doubt if I could. Best wishes to you!

Dear Sister Warriors,
Thanks for all of your well wishes and for keeping me in your thoghts. Hugs and Love to ALL!

websister - your pic is great; i don't see a "sir" there at all! and you inspired me to snap a new pic. I need to get my hubby to do it next time though, as he does me more justice.
stride - sorry about your kitty... you all are making me miss my kitty terribly. Its been 6 years this month since i had to put her down. Have her ashes and her favorite toy in my my china cabinet of all places. Sounds crazy i know, but our wedding cake topper was something we had made and we had her standing with us so that sits on top of an open piece of pottery and her ashes are sandwiched in the middle.
Marian - what an exotic live you've had so far!
who is finishing chemo today - cmbernardi? If so - woo hoo!!! way to go!
herceptin day for me today. my veins mostly cooperated but boy was the pharmacy slugish in sending my meds out. Oh well - one more down...
Have a great day all!

Websister/Ramols....I agree with Believe...I love the pixie hair.....gawd bless the stupid....at least your hair will grow back!!!!!!
Marian.....I love ur summers! What great memories ur children must have.:)
Happy birth month cmbernardi...and congrats on finishing chemo!!!! Happy day.:)
Great way to describe the brain tazzy!!! Im going to steal that as it describe s my brain these days!0 -
Lol Ireland! So funny!
Girls I love your avatars, also. I love short hair!
Marian, I read your blog. The pictures of Nepal are incredible! Your Inagural BC Survivor Trek sounds terrific! The way up or first half of the trek could symbolize the end of this difficult part of the bc journey. The way back down, or 2nd half, a celebration of how far you've come and where you're going! I'm so excited for you! Oh, and I would like that suggested reading list. I will look for that author as well. My friend gave me the name of someone who teaches classes, but not related to cancer in anyway. My psychologist said to look it up on YouTube and that I'd probably find an introduction to a lemon. lol, Sheila
Happy birth day and month cmbernardi! Now that's the way to celebrate!!0 -

Good afternoon my lovely ladies! It's been a few days. It's been super busy at work and shortstaffed on top of that. Things are going good at home, waiting on Jon to get home this coming Tuesday. Boy have i missed him, ready to give him a big hug and even bigger kiss!
Monday night we had stephens sports banquet. He was given the co-newcomer of the year for Varsity Basketball. I was so happy for him. Tuesday night we had his Basketball League games. Tonight I'm catching up on FB/BCO/emails. Here's a pic from Monday night of Stephen- he's the one with the bright pink tie. He wears it everytime he has an event to go to, to honor me. What a sweetheart.
Cmbernardi- HAPPY BIRTHDAY! How did your weekend go with your man? Was he able to spot you?
Ramols/Websister- I agree I love your pictures!
Websister- I would have slapped the cashier.
Scottie- Alex is doing good- should be discharged Friday. He had part of his skin graft that did not take so they had to remove it and take a graft from his upper thigh. He also had a slight fluid build up. But doing good now. Here's a current picture of him from yesterday, this is alex and his mom Amber. Miranda is doing good, she helped out at the benefit that was thrown in his hometown.

I start my Femara tomorrow. Anyone have any input on side effects?
0 -
mrscich- if you aren't taking glucosamine, start it. With the Femara, it pulls fluid out of your muscles and causes some joint pain. The glucosamine puts fluid back into the muscles. Excersing does help. I take mine at night because it can cause some drowsiness. if you are having hotflashes ask for Effexor. I take two pills in the morning every day to counteract the hot flashes. If you get put on the Effexor, don't take the Femara at the same time as Effexor or you will NOT sleep.

Scottie- you can go to my FB page and see the video if you haven't already. He made me a very proud momma!

Mrscich and Chrisrenee, I just started back on my Anastrozole (Armidex) two nights ago and so far so good. I took it briefly just after my March surgery but felt so awful that my MO took me off it for awhile. It may have had nothing to do with the aromatase inhibitor and I hope for that!Chrisrenee, when I first read your post above I thought you said to STOP taking glucosamine and was so relieved to see it was the opposite. I have taken it for years along with chondroitin and I swear that it plus my physio have kept me trekking!
Also Chrisrenee thanks for posting the photo~~I got to show it to my DH and DS as we are all in the den waiting for the first Stanley Cup game of our series~~Canucks. He is such a cutie!

marian- I wasn't on glucosamine at first. When I was on Levaquin (antibiotic) and the Femara, it really interacted together very badly. I couldn't walk, I felt like I was 150 years old. It hurt so much to walk. I started taking glucosamine twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. I feel SO MUCH BETTER. Thank you regarding Alex. I am so thankful to have you all with me during this time with Alex! I am so blessed.

Loving the new avatars! We are one gorgeous group!
So I started a team for an October race for the cure. My BFF picked the name - Breast Amigas!
Enjoy the night ladies! I am sitting here reading and torturing my kids. 10pm and they won't go to bed so I keep changing the channel through my xfinity app! I keep putting on Nova or CNN!0 -
karen- that's hilarious. My hubby likes to watch national geographic or animal planet, that's enough to send me to my own room. haha

Chrisrenee, your son is very handsome! And your little nephew.. What a cutie, lol, that smile on his face is so heartwarming. An inspiration.
Well, Scottie the Leafs lost, actually I don't think they even bothered to play lol!!!0
