Karen, so sorry to hear about Roger...hugs.

I never had thyroid issues before..went for physical 2 months ago..et voila...hypothyroid big time ( Think normal is like .5-4.0 and I was 2.0 a year ago before BC and now jumped to 9.0!) Started me on a synthroid daily and will recheck levels end of this month. I am on arimidex but don't think there is correlation.

Karen - thoughts and prayers to you and Rogers family. He will be missed but his memories will live forever.

Hi
Karen - prayers and hugs! Sorry to hear Of Rogers passing! Dam it!0 -
With all this talk of thryoid issues, has there been any discussion of rads being a problem when the surpraclavicular area is radiated? I am having that area hit too and did plan to ask next Tuesday when I start but I did read somewhere that the thyroid should be protected~~I hope so!

Marian I had my rads in a machine that took X-rays each time I went because my heart was tilted a little and they didn't want to hit that of course. They had me turn my head to the right a little (rads on left breast) and that helped move the thyroid over. I've been on synthroid for years. My mom was hypothyroid and she had BC as well. None of my sisters have thyroid problems, and no BC there. Coincidence?
Aruba, your "et voila". Made me laugh out loud! We got an email from our landscape guy today and in it he said "... and wahla!" Cracked me up! Better get some sleep so I'm in good shape tomorrow for my MO appt! G'nite all! (((Hugs sisters)))0 -
Karen - adding my condolences to you and Roger's family.

Re: thyroid - my understanding is that the hormonal system is inter-related, when one hormone level changes as happens with estrogen when taking Tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor other hormone systems like the thyroid can be impacted so it is good to keep on top of it.
Marian - I also had the regional nodes irradiated, including the supraclavicular. I was told if the thyroid appeared to be in the field when they did the mapping they would have me turn my head as SWgeeWi was instructed to do. My thyroid was not in the radiation field for me so I did not need to do this. As SWgeeWI said, they do regular x-rays as you go through radiation to ensure everything is still lining up properly.0 -
I used breathing apparatus during rads to help push heart away from rad area, but did not have superclavicular area done. So thyroid should not have been in rad area. My brother does have hypothyroid issue and gout. Just the timing of my levels makes me wonder..

Wow, busy lot today aren't you!!! Oy I'm catching up...
Aruba.... Ummm thanks for the French eye candy!!
Liefie, I'm sure you were beautiful at your DD wedding, and more importantly, yes you were there!!!!! That is what our strength is about...seeing, weddings, grandchildren, CHILDREN.
Juneau, keeping fingers, toes, legs and everything else crossed tightly!!! I sooooo hope you get this home.... Because I want to come visit lol
I walked across an open field at winter's break as the sun danced on the last few drifts. I imagined my fears would melt one by one as I learned to love myself.
I love the thought for the day!!!!
MICHELLE... MCOOK!!! Just more reasons why you are my inspiration. God bless you sweet lady, in everything you do and everything you are!! You are a very strong determined person!!!
Swgee, please don't tell me about that with tamoxifen and thyroid. Lol. My thyroid was out always during chemo. No meds rxd but it was always more blood draws!!!
Karen... Ohhhh I'm so sorry!!! Words escape me, sending big comforting hugs. Prayers to you and everyone around him!!! Carolyn put all our thoughts so eloquently into words!!! xo0 -
Websister, I understand it the same. My thyroid was f/u prior to rads. During chemo tho. AC-T. Chemo induced maybe?

TO KAREN AND ALL WHO HAVE LOST SOMEONE TO THIS FU**ING CANCER SHIT.
A POEM FOR ROGER (my favorite poem of all time). R.I.P. dear Roger and all of the countless others who have fought hard but were needed by God in a better place:
Do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.Mary Elizabeth Frye0 -
Karen so sorry to hear about Roger. It's so sad but that poem is strangely comforting
As for thyroid issues, I have been on Synthroid for over 30 years due to surgical removal of one half and partial to the other. I continue to grow nodules so I get regular biopsies. The TX had no effect on any of it. My meds stay the same. I am also on Arimidex.

Happy Friday Ladies,
Man oh Man did we get a snow storm I woke up yesterday morning and went to let my dogs out about 4:30 and I swear I just stood there looking at the accumulation and was in such shock I stood there for a few minutes not believing what I was seeing LOL it was that fun heavy snow that you want around Christmas but not 12 inches of it. My tree had snow that was so heavy all of the limbs were ether breaking off or drooping to the ground and I have some tall tree. If it wasn't May and I would say it was breath taking on how pretty it was. I went for a walk last night with my dog and no one else was out and it was so surreal. I am not too disappoint with colder weather since my body is not ready for shorts:) but would like it in the 50's:) not 30's
Overall it the fun things about massive winter storms is that people come together to help I saw neighbors helping car get unstuck, plowing each other drive way, drinking wine out in the snow:) I did not have to drive any where except to run to the gas station so that was good.
There was some damage that I pray for those people who lost buildings and had damage from the snow and tree falling:(
I just hope it does not flood too much now and the farmers can get in the field to plant soon as that will affect a lot of things if they don't:(
Well I am going to go out for a run and enjoy the peaceful morning:)
I hope everyone is doing well and have a good day! Hugs!0 -
Thanks for that poem, Cmbernardi! I've read it before - very touching and profoundly beautiful! Gives a different perspective, doesn't it?

cmbernardi - that is a beautiful poem and yes, it is comforting. Thank you for sharing
McCook - love your description of the snow and your walk last evening. Hope you get the 50's weather you are looking for
Shianne - chemo can put your body into 'chemopause' - therefore it definitely has the potential to have contributed to your thyroid issues as it is disrupting the hormone system
We're off to visit the mountains for the weekend, my grandson turned three on Tuesday and is celebrating his birthday tomorrow.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.0 -
Hi ladies! karen... as Tazzy said ((HUGS)))

I have been taking medication for over 20 years for thyroid as did my mother and 2 sisters... I am the only one with breast cancer .... so ... mine is not related for sure
HOWEVER ... what about teeth problems and tamoxifen. I have had 2 absesses since January, 2 root canals and two crowns and now having problems with another tooth -- so far I have paid over $3000 out of pocket because my dental plan covers $1750 max in a calendar year ..

Carolyn that's such a beautiful poem. Great imagery!
My MO didn't really think many people have their thyroid affected by Tamo. She is however, going to check my thyroid levels and also check my Vitamin D level. She said it's an easy check that doctors overlook when someone is experiencing fatigue. She experienced it during her residency and they had to give her 50,000 IUs! And, we live in Wisconsin, and it was a terrible winter, so.... Thankfully I haven't been bleeding (TMI?) so I'm pretty sure I'm not anemic.. I get a mammogram in Sept. because of the study I'm in, then my annual one in Dec. and appt. with my Breast surgeon so I don't need to see MO until April. Unfortunately for me she and her husband are moving to Colorado so they'll hand me off to someone else.
Joanne, I'll pay special attention to my teeth! I've had one root canal and can't afford more!
Juneau, so excited you booked your flight!!
Websister, have fun in the mountains.....jealous!!
Mcook, hope the snow melts quickly! We got all the rain today. Boy did it pour! I just kept thinking....that could be snow.....
Ireland, I think I'll have a drink. Have fun dancing on tables tomorrow! Can I be in your pocket?0 -

Wow! .....I had my labs taken about 11:15 this am and the results are on my computer chart already! I see my TSH level is 3.48, and I do much better with it around 2.0. So glad I had it checked!

Carolyn... I had a good cry after reading the poem AGAIN....after my mother passed
away, my brother and I cleared out her home. I picked up her address and telephone
book and started to check it for some numbers I needed. Inside I found this poem which
brought me to tears then as it did today. Obviously my mother had left it in there for us to find!!!!!0 -
Karen- I'm so sorry about your friends passing. My thoughts and prayers with you and your friends wife.
Yesterday I had the worst day in history, started off with my 3rd patient of the day. I told the patient (a 22 yo girl) how much she would owe for her exam. She get on the phone with her mom, then she hands me the phone and starts yelling and cussing at me. Lots of F this, that, you. GD, bitch, slut, whore. I did not know this woman nor do i care to other than to stomp her ass. I don't usually take things personally, but i have been very emotion since the start of May, as it is quickly coming up on my 1 yr diagnosis date (5/25). Once i connected the raving lunatic to my boss, I completely lost it, i was a blubbering idiot for at least 45 mins. Needless to say, my boss called me back telling me not to let that bitch (her words) get to me. my boss said the lunatic was just as nasty to her as she was to me. The day got better at 3 when I went in for my OT visit. My OT told me that we were going to measure my left arm to see if therapy is working. At the end of my treatment iit showed that I had decreased 1cm in ALL 13 areas measured calculated it comes out to 3% decrease! I was ecstatic about that. Today was a great day, stayed busy, went to therapy again and then read that my nephew Alex was released this afternoon. He is now at home with all of his brothers and sisters. A friend of my sisters recorded Alex's homecoming. At the very end when the fire truck is pulling up Alex is in the front seat, it brought a tear to my eye. Hopefully this video will work.
