Hi girls, just dropping by to say a quick hi. Have read everything, promise!
Believe, your mom's party seems to have been a huge success! I truly do LOVE the cake.
Outdamnedspot, best wishes to you, and I hope it turns out to be nothing to be concerned about.
Juneau and Ramols, Marianelizabeth, Sneeky, Scottiee and Outdamnedspot, you girls all look wonderful! It's just the best to meet somebody from these threads.
Have to echo Juneau about exercise, sorry girls! The more you do it, the more you wanna do it. I am now even running on the treadmill in the gym at 59 years old just because I can. Never wanted to run before, but it feels so darn good to be able to do that now after feeling weak and debilitated for so long - yayyy!
Best wishes to everybody!

Hello 2013 Sisters...
I just finished my last herceptin last week... WooHoo
In the beginning i was so scared, but the ladies on these forums are something else.
Encouraging and giving me strength.
I learned about chemo, wigs, scarfs, surgery[and what to bring&wear home],and rads through these forums.
I'm now living each day, looking up to the sky and saying thank you. And now I have to give back.
I would also like to thank SpecialK. After being diagnosed, I said I didn't know if I could do it. And you said [i'm paraphrasing], You take it every day, every hour and every minute and do it... I never forgot that.
Thanks

Believe I'm definitely in your pocket. Am I seeing correctly that Scottie of all people is bringing Beer/wine/margaritas! Wow Next Scottie will be offering to bring our fat food favorites pizza, chicken wings and cheeseburgers! Oh heck since I have an appointment with my gp early, that means I'll have to swing by Krispy Creme for HOT fresh donuts, so I'll get lots of xtras and coffee/tea for the pocket party for those that don't want alcoholic beverages so early. lol Don't worry though after a couple cups of coffee Scottie I'll be ready for your treats.
Everyone, I'm curious-I have been reading through the thread http://community.breastcancer.org/topic_post?forum_id=79&id=785498&page=2 where they are talking about taking baby aspirin to help prevent reoccurance. Were any of you told by your oncologist to take baby aspirin for that purpose or told not to take it? If they did tell you to take it did they tell you to take it 3 to 5 days a week vs everyday? I don't go back to my MO for a couple of months but I am going to ask him about it next time. Sounds like it is thought to reduce chances of mets too?

2Fried - interesting question; I haven't heard anything about that, but I am on a baby aspirin regimin - one a day. But not to prevent recurrence - more to hopefully prevent any kind of clotting issues. After my fake stroke during my exchange surgery, and being on tamoxifen - my MO, cariologist and neurologist all seemed to agree baby aspirin was a smart move. What are they saying baby aspirin does to prevent recurrence?
Any of you seen a physiatrist? I saw one on Monday at mskcc and I was fascinated. Best I can tell it is a cross between neurology, physical therapy, and rehabilitation medicine. She was great! She was appalled that my insurance had denied any further PT sessions. She immediately identified a few issues and said I would likely benefit from some specialized PT and lymphedema treatments from their specialists. That dreaded word... While my arm/hand seems fine so far, seems the achiness/soreness all around my implant and rib cage on my left side is due to swelling - lymphedema... She didn't actually say I have lymphedema, but they lined me up for a mimimum of 6 weeks of appts with a lymphedema specialist. Sigh... The fun continues. I guess I should just feel lucky they can help me and they are going to hopefully fix things before they get out of hand. Right now it just feels like a massive schedule nuisance.. But - find my happy I will...
In pockets where needed for scans/tests/etc. Bringing my happy - no calories or alcohol!

My MO just mentioned taking an aspirin, regular strength, each day but she wants me to approve it with my GP first to make sure my GP is ok with it. I don't go to my GP until November so I will talk with her about it then.

You all bring whatever you like! I will be waiting for the wiggles, giggles and burps!
I will ask my MO about the baby aspirin. I hadn't heard that but one of us is always checking in at a doctor, good idea to post questions here.
I'm considering a shingles shot if the doctor says ok. It seems like everyone I know has gotten shingles. Anyone know any reason to not get one? My dislike of needles doesn't seem like a good reason to pass on it. Needles seem to be a part of our new normal.
Ireland - I'd trade my treadmill for curtains and a lamp too! Good call.
The treadmill is making my toes ache. We must be into excuses.
Someone posted a diet pill on here that started with an A. I'm going to look for the name of it before my appt. help, if anyone remembers. I know there is no magic bullet but I will take any help that I can get.
2 Fried - I tried to live with just a photo of the Happy sign, but gave in and bought it. It reminds me of all of us looking for our daily happy and Ramols, of course.0 -
Believe - great pictures!
Glad you bought the 'happy' - perfect - you literally found your 'happy'
In your pockets tomorrow with the others
Ramols - your physiatrist sounds great, not fun re: all the appointments but the results should be worth it. Love that you are bringing your happy tomorrow0 -
Believe thats ok that you bought it- every now and then I break down and buy things too instead of just taking a picture lol. Yes that would be great if you ask; probably the more Drs opinions the better! I don't know if you read the study but it said the results were higher for those that took it I think 4 times a week rather than everyday. I also wondered if it was for all kinds of breast cancers and if it interfered with arimidex, tamoxifen etc. I guess if it cant hurt anything I'll just take it. As for the shingles shot, I plan to get one from my gp tomorrow. I wanted one last year but in order for insurance to cover it you had to be 60. Fortunately or I guess you could say unfortunatel, this year I qualify. The doctor said they are very expensive otherwise but I dont know how expensive his idea of expensive is. My husband got his and didnt seem to have any effects. I will be at your pocket party with the gang.
Ramols never went to a physiatrist myself but my husband was sent to one for a foot issue and he was the only one that was able to help him. Plus he ordered him a prescription that he had to go to a compound pharmacy to have made. It was interesting.

Believe, I am in your pockets as well.
Also I went to lunch with a couple nurses, one of which has a husband recovering from shingles and is still miserable They both highly recommend getting the shot.0 -
Believe...in your pocket too, for tomorrow.
Had a really achy day today...elbows, arms, shoulders and knees mostly.
The weather here is still hot and dry so I can't blame it on that.
I'm doing my lymphedema excercises, but I swear I hurt more from them. Any opions?

Be careful with the Shingles vaccination if you have had chemo. My MO said I shouldn't even be in contact with anyone who has had the shot until I am a year past my last chemo treatment. My Mom and Dad wanted to get them but are waiting until at least October so that I will be a year past my last chemo.

Just a quick check-in before I leave for my BS appointment.
I had the US yesterday and the radiologist came in to look at it...she said "nothing to worry about"! Woohoo! I danced out of that clinic!
She is thinking cyst or widened duct. Back in six months for a mammo. I can do that.
Today is my one year cancerversary. That was a fast year
Thanks for being in my pockets...you're a rowdy bunch, but I love you all.
For anyone having a PP...I'm in there already.0 -
outdamned spot great news!!!! we are in there for Believe today for her MO visit

Outdamned - great news! I was watching for your results. Happy Cancerversary. Another event in your rear view mirror.
My cousin who is my current house guest is a nurse. She doesn't specialize in Cancer but she can read my blood tests from yesterday. Now I know what all the tests mean! She also told me there is a Cancer Marker test. She printed the info for me from the BC.org site. It tells (not 100%) if there is a recurrence of BC or ovarian cancer. I'm going to ask my Doctor about it today. I will report back. I'd do the test - if possible. She hadn't heard anything about baby aspirin - still asking my Doctor.
Kslansky - hope the aches and pains are better!0 -
Outdamned-Great news!! Happy dance! My cancerversary isn't until the end of November, but sometimes I look back on this past year and it still seems so surreal.
Mom of 3- I haven't heard about the baby aspirin either but will ask bout it now,
Believe, I'm in your pocket!
Ramols, I've never heard of a physiatrist, either, but am so interested! I'm thinking my husband who has MS could benefit from one! Stay on top of that swelling! It sounds like they're being very proactive which is wonderful. Sounds like you're in good hands. (Punny, ha!)
Kslansky- I feel sore whether I do my exercises or not! Damn lymphedema! I just hate the way it's a reminder everyday. Keep up with the exercises though. You just don't want it to worsen. I was also told that the pain can cause swelling, so stay on top of that, too.
I tried doing a 20 minute Zumba workout with my daughter the other day. OMG, the back of my knee is killing me! I guess I should start with just walking.
In everyone's pockets! Anyone have any great plans for Labor Day? Either way, enjoy this last long weekend of summer (sniff, sniff!). Hugs, Sheila😊0 -
That is news to cheer about Outdamnedspot!
It is hard to believe how fast the year went. Next Wed I will be 1 year PFC and it feels like it was a lifetime ago. On Thursday I'm going for a reduction/lift on the non BC side and will have a fat injection on the BC side to help fill in the depression left from last year's lumpectomy. I am really looking forward to having it done even tho it's another surgery. Tired of having lopsided boobs. (Even tho everyone else says "You can't even tell!")
