Welcome JoanneMadden! We're a fantastic group of survivor sisters. You can vent here, ask for pocket parties for appointments, complain about little things, and celebrate big things. We get it, and most of all we're here for you!
I'm so sorry you're having such trouble with your surgeries. I can't imagine how frustrating that must be! Please hang in there!! We'll all be rooting for you here, praying for you, and thinking of you. ((Hugs)) Sheila💗0 -
Welcome JoanneMadden! You've found a great group of women. Sorry it took you so long to get here. Glad your Spirits are up, we will help keep them up. You've certainly had a rough year, time for it to get better.

Today I celebrate the one-year anniversary of the day the cancer was removed from my body. Very mixed emotions. Thankful, yes. But what a tough road it has been compared to what I was expecting. Guess we just keep on keepin' on. In pockets wherever needed, hope all of us find our happy today. :-)

Scottiee, LOLOLOL! Glad you had so much fun with the dr, and glad everything is okay. How is school going? Can't believe you still have the energy for that. I retired from teaching years ago, and know exactly how exhausting it is.
Juneau, you are clearly medicated . . . LOL. We're all waiting anxiously to hear about the new girl, especially me, because I'm in for a lift in January. After DIEP surgery the healthy one is really looking a bit sad compared to the perky new recon breast, and will certainly need some help.
Cher, happy birthday, and enjoy your cruise - you deserve it!
Joannemadden, you have found a wonderful group here. So sorry to hear of all the trouble you've been having. What a tough road you have been travelling! Have you ever considered DIEP flap surgery where they take your tummy fat to create new breasts? If you already had rads, this may be something to consider. It seems your body is rejecting implants and expanders, but there are still other good options that may work for you, so don't despair. If you consider DIEP, please take your time, and find the best DIEP surgeon with an excellent success rate. These people can really work wonders. BIG HUGS to you!

Hi all- I've been MIA as Dad had to have another surgery then when all got situated on that front, my old canine son they believed, slipped a disk in his back, which they are surmising messed up a nerve that made his front paw numb and kind of useless. Although the poor little guy can control his paw about half the time- it kind of flops upside down, inside out and causes issues with his balance when he can't get it to do what he wants. Since I have mostly wood and tile floors I have been making him a path way of throw rugs to keep him from sliding around for the times he does get the nerve to try to go to another room. I definitely wouldn't win any home decorating contests with the way things look right now, thats for sure, but I sure as heck don't want him hurting himself anymore! Otherwise I have been carrying his 35lbs of dead weight outside and propping him up to encourage potty duty which is extremely challenging for both of us. He is definitely going on a much needed diet when he gets over this. lol His newly adopted canine sister just looks at us like she is thinking "what the heck kind of forever home did I get myself into".
Anyway welcome Joannemadden to this great group of ladies. I hope you get the seroma, infection etc straightened out. I had a lot of issues too including a seroma which thankfully healed with the antibiotics plus several areas where I had an allergic reaction then necrosis after surgery that my ps kept cutting away. Unfortunately the cutting gave me a rather unique look. I wasn't very pleased about it at first but then once things healed and I got my implants then a 2nd set of inplants ,I just accepted my uniqueness and the fact I could never be a topless dancer unless it was for some type of a freaky carnival! lol (Kidding of course) They want me to get a few revisions and things but after all the running from one doc to another from diagnosis thru surgeries etc I just decided to take a long "breastcation". One day maybe, but not now.
Dang Scottie, you didn't even get dinner and a movie before all that putting out? What the heck-times sure do change as we age dont they? lol Glad all turned out well.
Juneau hope the girls make you (and hubby) real happy- like Liefie said you sounded like you were still on those happy operating drugs when you last wrote.
Jennie- its emotional but still very nice getting that first year under your ?bra? isn't it! I know what you mean about it being a lot tougher than expected .
Believe did you get the shingles shot? I was holding out until I heard what you had to say about it. My DH said it's like every other shot he ever got so I guess I'll go get it. Other than increasing your calcium and D do you have to take any of the bone meds for your osteopenia? I take the actonel once a month which I am handling so much better than I did the weekly but won't be retested for nearly a year to see if it's helping. And by the way, I have lost 4 lb which I am attributing to the fact that I haven't been on here reading about all your wonderful baking, etc the last week or so!
Aruba I'm sorry to hear you have a summer cold but glad that your Dad is doing well enough to try to take care of you. Think of your cold as the diversion that sometimes our dear elderly Dad's seem to need to take their minds off of their own issues. When one of Dad's neighbors needs something, it's amazing the strength he finds to help them.
Well everyone-glad for those with good news and in pockets of those needing support.

2Fried - shingles shot got moved to next Tues. they ran out. Waiting is my middle name.
Sorry about your puppy. My poodle acted like she had a back issue also. 397.00 later, pills she wouldn't take, and X-rays that looked fine. She was leaping around like a gazelle. Today she's hanging her head again, not sure what's up but we have wood floors too. Might have to take decorating advise from you and add rugs.
Juneau / waiting to hear about your fabulous matching boobs.
Stride - still sending positive thoughts and prayers. Check in when your time permits.0 -

Ireland20... I take 6000 D3, and 2000 calcium, doctor says yes, although I've always been a vitamin popper. I have osteopenia in my hip and degenerative disc"s in my back so it can only help.
0 -
Ireland....my Onc says more than 1000 D3 is not necessary and Ca no more than 1500....500 three times a day.
0 -
The amount of D3 needed is based on the level found in your bloodwork, living in MI not as much sun as AZ or Ca, both BS and MO said take at least 5000 to keep blood level above 50. Scottie maybe you have high D3 naturally...
0 -
Ireland check out the article The Importance of Vitamin D on BCO site....
0 -
Here in Canada it is not the norm to have D levels checked......I've never been asked to check mine.
0 -
BC just disallowed paying for the test. Too many people using it indiscriminately.

Thanks for the good thoughts, feeling better! As for the Vitamin D, My PCP had it checked before dx and I was low (Dr. said most people in Cleveland are low with little sun around in winter) so was on 2000 IU.. After BC DX, my MO had it checked and jumped while i was just on the low side or accetpatble, she jumped me to 8000 IU/day. I also take calcium chews but not as regular. Also on baby aspirin per MO..and of course Arimidex.
Only here can we anticipate the grand reveal of Juneau....hope you are feeling.... ummm...perky!

Seems like there is a lot of variation re: vitamin D
Mine was low just after diagnosis in spite of taking 2000 iu per day so GP upped me to 4000. Last visit she advised me to stay at 4000 to keep blood levels up. She said that they have been asked to use discretion in ordering D levels but said it was warranted once yearly with bc diagnosis.
In all pockets needed0 -
I asked mt PCP to check my Vitamin D levels and I had to pay for it. Next time I had a blood test I again asked for D3 to be checked but mentioned I had to pay for it last time. He said "I will make sure you don't have to pay this time" and he checked another box. I did not have to pay!

Ladies, I know I've said this before, but please make sure you take Vit K with your calcium supplements. You want the calcium to go to your bones, not to your arteries and other soft tissue. Vit K assists in ensuring that it does.

Thank Mary!!! I knew there was one I wanted to buy but keep forgetting

Hi my lovelies! Glad everyone is doing well.
Juneau- you crack me up under the influence of narcotics. Haha glad you are doing well.
Scottie- congrats on your 6mos appt. I call my PS appts going to get felt up appts. Lol.
Believe- osteopenia really? Did you already have some form if this before your dx? I also wanted to comment on your slight LE. I know you and your hubby go to the condo, but if you fly you need to get a sleeve. Flying without one is the worst thing you can do for your arm.
Welcome Joannemadden! You truly have found a great group of ladies here. I love them to death!
Jennie- congrats on your 1 yr surgery anniversary.
Aruba. Hope your dad is doing well!
Everything is going well for me so far. Kids are getting ready to start their third week of school on Monday. It's hard to believe that Stephen is a senior this year. Wow!!!
I'm excited that I have 6 weeks left until I get my nips. I will have headlights on for about 6 mos, but it's so worth it.
I'm always thinking about you all, may not get on here as often as I would like but I do read my emails. 💚💓💚💓 you all!0
