    2. Bring to a boil and then reduce and simmer for about 30 minutes.  (Until the squash is very soft)
    3. Strain the vegetables out of the broth (set broth aside).
    4. Using blender (I use a hand blender as cleanup is easier and I can do it in the same pot), puree all the leeks and squash until smooth and almost liquid.
    5. Reintroduce the puree back into the broth.
    6. Add diced apples.

    Eat and enjoy!

Had a bilateral in Dec. now on to chemo. I am not a huge Beyonce fan but I keep singing that Destiny Child song "I'm a Survivor, I'm not gon give up, I'm not gon stop, I will work harder, I'm a survivor, I'm gonna make it, I will survive, keep on surviving". It has become like a mantra to me. I sing it over and over in my head. Lol

Don't know where it came from, I wasn't a fan of that song. Still isn't but just those lyrics there talk to me..

Softness- welcome to our group, you will love it!

Tazzy- the whole absolution is just what I need. Forgive me father for I have sinned (and ate things I should not have). Maybe I need to start praying and asking dor forgiveness before I start to eat anything.

Scottie- thanks for being our cheerleader and our dietitian all at the same time.

Juneau- I was finally able to see your hair story! You had such long hair!!! Although I know the short buzzcut was not choice but it's very becoming on you. I don't have the balls to go too short with mine, but would love too!

Mcook- my parents have a little poodle mix that come to my house sometimes over night. I also have a king size bed, she lays right beside me to where I can't turn over. I can push her away, but she always scoots back right beside me, and she puts off so much heat for a 7lb dog.

Met up with a couple of ladies from the Texas thread yesterday. We had a great time, sat at Starbucks for about 3 hrs and just talked. Then I went home finished laundry and made beef stew for dinner. I'm about sick of chicken right now.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

My weight went up 12 lbs during chemo (from 122- to 134) now back to 126. I am still watching but actually about 125 is a decent weight for me. I've been doing pretty well but today woke up anxious, worried, heart racing, not sure about what. (kids, work, hair, aged dog...) but I'm considering an Ativan for the first time in 3 weeks. And alcohol seems to have a not-so-great effect on me much as I long for it at time. Damn!!

The sun is shining, the Aromasin seems to be better than the Arimedex (in my 3rd month) so that's good.See MO for check in in 2 weeks. And blood test. hugs to all of us

chrisrenee;  yes it was VERY long. Just about past my bra strap.  I still forget it's all gone sometimes and when I look in the mirror I get shocked.  I don't cry as much as I used to though so I guess that's a good thing.

So I took a yoga/core class here at work during lunch.  They offer 3 classes a week so I think I'm going to start doing all of them. This was even if I'm too busy to get on The Bitch tonight, I already got a n hour of exercise in.  I have to go to the jail tonight, so I won't get home until after 9:30.  We bring a 12 step meeting in to the women who are incarcerated. I alwasy find my gratitutde as I walk back out and hear the steal gates close behind and I thnk god that jail never had to be part of my story.

Afternoon Ladies.  Yep I'm at work and following in Juneau's footsteps Wink

Hi softness - as Chrisrenee said 'you will love it' here.

Juneau:  when I start exercising I will let you know if I get a chaffing - so far nothing Laughing  Thanks for the recipe - looks delicious.

Hi jpmon... glad you are getting on with life - woo hoo on the new car.  Well deserved present for you.

Scottie: hope you feel better soon.   My DH called and he has gone home with a sore throat... he must feel bad as he would NEVER give in to something like that.

mcook - loved your dog story.

OK - hope I haven't missed anyone.   Back to work for me - but nice to be able to log in from here and say hello.

    Peace, love and hugs xxxx

Hi guys, I have not been on this thread in awhile in part because I have a hard time keeping up! But it's great to see you all doing so well and supporting each other in nutrition and exercise endeavors. Juneau, the butternut squash soup sounds delicious.

I stumbled across some good meal plans on Clean Eating magazine's website. I am not following them exactly, but they have some good ideas: http://www.cleaneatingmag.com/Meal-Planning/Meal-Plans.aspx.

Fitness magazine also has some great recipes. I loved this Beef Stir Fry with Avocado Salad: http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/recipes/quick-recipes/dinner/dinner-in-20-easy-healthy-dinner-recipes/

Also, I tried this workout, and it was doable for a recovering cancer patient except the abdominal exercises kicked my ass: http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/videos/m/67259698/better-body-plan-tighten-it-up-workout.htm

Enough free advertising for magazines. Keep up the good fight!

Juneau, will try that recipe. It looks delicious. Good for you on doing yoga; you will love it.

Jpmomof3, I often wondered how you were doing. Thanks for checking in, and letting us know you are getting on just splendidly. That was exactly what we wanted to hear. That Porsche Cayenne is just what the doctor ordered - pun intended!

Softness, it is good you found us, and Stride, good to hear from you too.

Mcook, don't know how you sleep with that heavy dog on the bed. My cat sometimes bothers me, and she does not weigh more than 7 lbs. Oh well, we love them, and will tolerate a lot, I guess.

Scottiee1, thanks for doing a tremendous job as cheerleader/dietician. We need that around here!

For a many months I have been agonizing over the decision of taking off my healthy breast as well during my upcoming recon surgery. I have lately begun to lean towards not doing it when I read about a new study this morning. In 2011 a study of early breast cancer patients showed that, unless you have the BRA gene or a family history of bc, your chance of getting it in the other breast is 1% or less per year. It is clear from the study that many early stage women have a BMX based on fear, and not actually based on the chance of recurrence. That wrapped it up for me, and I know now that I'm not losing the healthy breast. The PS will just have to lift it or do whatever she needs to get the two to look reasonably similar, and that will be good enough for me. I will never be 17 again, and just want to look good in my clothes and swimsuit. It is a huge weight off my shoulders, and I am happy with my decision.

Must go for a run with the dog, but it is so cold and very foggy here today. For me that is always a little spooky - thank you Hollywood. So I think I'm staying inside - will put on rock and roll music and dance around the kitchen island for exercise as I am cleaning up - multi-tasking is good exercise for chemo brain. This morning in the gym the trainer would show me a series of three consecutive exercises that I had to perform, and I just could not remember them. Sad, I know, but I'm not going to worry about it. I did remember to brush my teeth and comb my hair this morning, and that is way more important. LOL!

Go Ladies Go! So awesome that everyone has been doing a great job with their fitness! I just convinced my family to sign up for the same marathon we did last June! I need to do this again as a closure of my journey and glad I don't have to do it alone! I am doing the half because after being a marathoner in my younger years have no desire right not to run a full:) maybe some day but a half is challenging enough! Plus after my exchange surgery I know there will be a few months I won't be able to jog! I am such a goal oriented person so this will keep me in check with my commitment. Anyone else in the Midwest want to sign up for grandmas half marathon in June in Dulth:)

You just need to be able to run 30 minutes three month prior and I can send the training schedule I used. Start off walk/run to get up to 30 minutes then increase 15 minutes each week on your long run.

    For example first week

    M- 30

    T- off

    W- 30

    T- off

    F- 25

    S- 45

    S- off

This is a 5 day program but you can make it a four day schedule too or cross train one day with a bike.

Well my goal is to start training march 1st if I can after healed from surgery. Fingers crossed! Or if not I will walk it:)

Sounds good to me.  Forgot to weigh myself this morning so will do it tomorrow...for sure.

On a different note, had a pelvic ultrasound today to measure the uterine lining in case it changes while on Tamoxifen.  It took almost hour.  This external part was quick, but the internal part lasted about 40 minutes.  The tech had to get the radiologist in to look.  She kept saying that it was nothing, just weird uterus positioning.  Even after three trips to the bathroom, they were still struggling to get good pictures.  I sure hope it's nothing.  Sure don't need any more surprises.  I'm calling my PCP in the morning to see if she can find out what the fuck is going on.

Outdamnspot, I feel your stress I had the pelvic last week due to Tamox too. When I got there I had two radiology students and enjoyed a half hour of shoving the probe all around trying to find my ovaries that were apparently hiding.  Then the actual sonographer came in after they got done playing and took her pics in about 10 min.  I got the call in a couple days that all was fine and to stay on the Tamox.  Hoping you get the same uneventful call.

Update on my pharyngitis - it now has spread to the larynx. Doc said it is a bad one and I could be without a voice for up to 6-8 weeks.

Outdamnspot, I hope the tests come back fine! I didn't realize that was yet another thing to worry about w/tamox. Makes me grateful that I'm having a partial hysterectomy in a couple weeks. One less thing to go wrong.

mcook, I have vaginal ultrasounds done yearly for over 10 years because I have fibroid tumors, Tamoxifen can cause uterine cancer so they want a baseline ultrasound so they'll have something to compare your yearly ultrasounds too. We have a 2 in 1000 chance of getting uterine cancer, I still think it's worth taking Tamoxifen.

Wow, no way can I keep up with everything going on on this thread!

Mccook - tamoxifen can cause the uterine lining to thicken, there are rare occurrences of uterine cancer for some ladies taking it so they keep any eye on things. Hope your eye is OK, not fun. That dog really wants to be close to you lately!

Juneau - thanks so much for the recipe, I will be making it this week

Tazzy - I will continue to weigh myself weekly so I stay honest but I'll send the numbers every two weeks

Jpmomof3 - so wonderful to hear from you

Ramols - how are you doing?

Scottie - glad you are getting better

Liefie - what a relief for you to have come to a decision before your appointment

Still working on the tamoxifen, I may use Liefie's strategy of dividing the dose between morning and evening.

Haven't gotten on the beast yet today and not feeling very inclined to, better get in gear or it won't happen

Ohhh, Outdamnedspot...I remember the vaginal ultrasounds...with a wand the size of a baseball bat, and the feeling that they should have bought me dinner and drinks before I let them get in there and "explore"....

GmaFoley - Hope you feel better soon~

Chrisrenee77 - Judging from your avatar, if you have a son who will be graduating from high school, then you must have had him when you were 8 years old!

mcook301 - how scary about your eye... Actually, I probably wouldn't go to an ER these days either....soooooo much flu going around!!! Glad you have a friend who can help you if you need it!
