mcook- glad you had a good exchange today! So excited for you.

Aruba and Liefie- congrats on your all clear exams today! Must be a huge relief for the next 6 mos.

Scottie- I'm taking names of who all is cheating today! Wink keep in mind I am not one of them. I think maybe I should change my name from Chrisrenee to Rabbitfood. I'm so tired of rabbit food. I want ice cream. I will keep passing that up though.

So many posts, so little time to reply! I did want to say one thing (and I've lost 100 pounds and 6 dress sizes, so I been there, still doin' that!) and that is: measure & weigh yourself no more than once per week, and always at the same time. Your weight can fluctuate by a few pounds depending on time of day, food intake, etc. I'm a big fan of only weighing in buck nekkid before breakfast but after a morning poo. :-) Muscle is more dense than fat, so the scale may not move much for a while & it gets frustrating. That's why you should measure yourself as well. Neck, upper arms, waist, hips, thighs and (for those of you who still have them) chest at the biggest portion of your breasts.

Mcook: yay, welcome home. Don't overdo it. There is do little pain you forget you just had surgery!

Congrats on the weight loss Chrisrenee, but you should be eating a bit more protein. Maybe a little cheese or cottage cheese with your cereal. Be careful, that doesn't sound sustainable. But I'm sure jealous.

I weighed in yesterday at work. I was UP 0.4. Fuck that! They bring in the scale, put it on the carpet and it's never in the same spot. I'm going to stick to morning weigh in at home. Who said it, naked after a good poop? 😁

So I just weighed in again (because the other day I was down to 177.4) and i was the same 1774. That's a loss these last two weeks. How much Tazzy? 2 I think? Sooty no more time, have to get in the shower. Spent all my time reading!!!

I'm going to weigh in on this weight thing as well.  You guys may not want to hear this, but if you lose the weight slowly like you are doing then it's more likely to stay off than if you lose it quickly.  So one pound here, half a pound there maybe nothing for a whole week...it's really the right way to go.  Also there are apps for the smart phone that you can get that will help you count calories eaten and exercise done etc.  I used "Lose it" when I was trying to lose weight.  And have that ice cream...make it the slow churned kind...has less calories and still yummy...just don't have it every day.  Letting yourself have one indulgence a week will ensure that you stay on your diet.  It gives you something to look forward to.  Beer and wings...ah that may be pushing it on the indulgence.  I'd skip the wings and go for the beer!  AND definitely always weigh nekked first thing in the morning before breakfast!  If you weigh with clothes on that puts 2 to 3 pounds on you right there...honestly you'd be surprised!

Cowpower- You do get around!  Thought I'd make my way over to this thread since I'm done with treatment.  That makes me a survivor right?  After I was done with radiation I had a shot of tequila for each thing I had been through...surgery, chemo, and radiation!  It was a good day!

Joanne: in my mind it was worth splitting Scotties massage bills.

    Chrisrenne….. my aren’t you just the teacher’s pet.Laughing

Juneau.. not good to have a scale on the carpet is it ? least I wouldn’t think so – not sure where my brain got that piece of info from? Your scale is going in the right direction though.

Mcook: glad you feel no pain… hoping that continues

Unowhoandwhy: That’s a lot of weight to lose, good for you and thanks so much for the advice. Yep nekkid and after a good poo would sure make a difference.

Sonson: thanks for the advice too. I am the wings and beer chic – but I will be so good all week now.

Full day at work today. Thought it would be good to do 7 hours then have 2 days off – ha ha !

Hugs and love and a pain free happy Friday to all xxx   hello to all I missed.  Off to get ready for work.

I'll post the weights later on.

    Oh - I lost a pound.

HOLY CRAP! So I entered a photo in the online All Women Art Exhibition because so many people told me how powerful it was.  I posted it here last year.  Anyway, the gallery received 909 entries from artists from around the world.  AMAZING ARTISTS… and per the website, “Due to the volume and the outstanding quality of the entries received this month, we awarded our normal 1st through 5th places, 5 Honorable Mention awards and then a group of Special Recognition awards for each category mentioned above.” Well, my little old photo taken with my iPhone and put through instagram actual received an Honorable Mention!  That’s in the top TEN out of hundreds of photos.  I know it was the power of the photo… not the photographer, but I am SO glad that I have been able to share it with the world!

(it's #7; although I think you'll be able to pick it out pretty easily - second honorable mention, Jennifer Juneau...now you all get the juneaubugg...Laughing)

Yes, what uno said about measuring! There was a point when I was working on weight loss and the scale did *not* budge but my measurements changed a bunch. That was really delightful and motivating.

Tazzy, this morning I weigh 160, so 1 lb lost. That scone with butter and honey sure helped me lose half a pound since yesterday - lol. I'm going away for the weekend, so won't be eating at home . . . always dangerous, but I'm taking my running shoes with me. Will just persevere, and get out the tape measure as suggested. Something's gotta give!

Juneau, congrats on the photo competition! Wow! That is quite an achievement!

Mcook, hope you're still pain free.

    Have a good weekend everybody

Tazzy- I'm just excited that I haven't "cracked" yet and bought a gallon of ice cream and crammed pizza down my throat yet. After Scotties scolding about my 1/2 beer I'm trying to be better. Haha

Juneau- congrats on your picture! How amazing that must feel. I think I get enough protein throughout the day, I load my salad up with tons of meat and eggs. Last night I made grilled pork chops and wild grain rice.

Cowpower- thank you! I was getting very discouraged because I wasnt losing anything.

Chrisrenee7 - I LOVE my ice cream!! An brand, any flavor, I'm a total addict. But now I make ice cream with ice cubes of frozen fat-free milk, slices of frozen banana, and some sweetener if I'm in the mood. I put it all into my VitaMix blender, and it comes out just like soft serve. YUMMY!!! It takes a few times to get the hang of it, but once you do, it's so good, and so good for you. At Thanksgiving, I made Pumpkin Ice Cream for dessert this way...used the FF milk, frozen banana, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla, and a touch of Torani sugar-free syrup. OMG!!!! It wasn't the half a pumpkin pie and cup of whipped cream that I usually eat, but Oooooh - it was soo good!!! Laughing

Juneaubugg - Congratulations on the award!!!! That pic WAS incredibly powerful, and deserved to win. Good on you!!!!!

O.K. Sisters: WEIGHT LOSS AND EXERCISE!!!!  A minor rant……

Remember, last year I lost 60 pounds and more than 65 total inches around my body. (I'm 5'5", went from 204 to 144.)  I went from a size 18/20 to a size 8. I did it through a medically-supervised fast, and it took me almost a year.

The Fasting phase was only four months, then we went into Transition, where we learned to eat healthy, balanced, proportion-sized meals.

     And exercise was MANDATORY!!

In the beginning, I lost 5 pounds quickly (water weight, even though we had to drink a gallon of water a day.)

But in later weeks, I would find myself losing half a pound, or worse – GAINING weight. How could that be on a liquid fast?

Well, our bodies are not machines. Sometimes the cause-and-effect is not direct or even noticeable.

Here is the truth: If you are making an attempt to eat well and eliminate the crap from your diet, and you are moving your body more than you were used to, you are making progress, whether you see it or not.

Every single step you take, every single move you make, every single time you reach or stretch or your heart rate goes up, you are succeeding.

YOU MAY NOT BE LOSING POUNDS BUT YOU ARE GAINING HEALTH!!!

The scale can be your best friend or your worst enemy if you let it.

If you let the numbers on the scale define you, then you haven’t learned anything at all, and you’ll be forever stuck in this endless hellish loop of “I was bad” or “I was good”. That’s no way to live.

You have to have faith that whatever you are doing will be successful, as long as what you are doing is healthy, and that you are being consistent.

One of the strategies they taught us when we hit a plateau was to EAT MORE. Seriously. It forces your body to make adjustments to your metabolism, and kind of reboot the program. Then we would go back to the lower-calorie plan, and the weight loss began again.

We also had to make sure we were drinking all our water, in order to flush toxins out of our bodies that could cause weight retention.

When we returned to regular food, we followed the American Diabetes Association’s meal plan. Getting enough protein was essential – my minimum is 6 ounces of lean protein a day, and I usually go over that.

“Exercise” had a very loose definition. We didn’t have to become gym rats. All we had to do was move more than we were used to.  Get up in the morning, put on clothes, and be prepared to walk down to the end of the block. Take the elevator instead of the stairs. Park farther away from the store instead of waiting 20 minutes for the space right by the door. We were assigned pedometers with the goal of achieving 10,000 steps daily.

The more I exercised, the more I liked it – for the first time in my 62 years!!!

In the beginning, one older lady in our program bemoaned the fact – every week – that she walked five miles every morning, yet she had not lost a pound!!! I always reminded her of all the wonderful strengthening benefits she was bringing to her heart, her muscles, her bones, and her metabolism just by doing that.

I convinced her to not even look at her weight when we had our weekly weigh-ins. All she had to do was to follow her meal plan and keep doing what she was doing: walking.

Soon, she started losing. A little over time; a LOT in the big picture. I think to date she’s lost 85 pounds, but she’s also gone down 8 dress sizes and looks like a teenager! (Or so we tell her.)

That’s another point: HAVE A PLAN! I was fortunate. When I started my program, I told DH that I needed to do this to save my life. He agreed. I told him he was on his own for cooking meals, and he said that was fine, that he wasn’t helpless. (I get SO frustrated when women tell me “Oh, I could never go on that fast/plan/diet/program – I have to cook for my family, and I have to eat what they do.” SERIOUSLY? Do they have guns pointed at your head?

But I digress. Always have a plan. When I knew I’d be gone all day, and could only have my Optifast products, I would make them up in advance and keep them in a small cooler in my car, or in an insulated lunch bag.

I went to parties, out to dinner, and out to lunch with the girls. They ordered big greasy entrees off the menu, and I ordered herb tea and drank my Optifast shake. There is ALWAYS a way to make a meal plan work for you.

It makes me sad to hear so many sisters talk about gaining half a pound, or not losing at all, and feeling so guilty about it.

IT DOESN’T MATTER!!!!! Yes, seeing the numbers on the scale go down is tremendously motivating!!! And there is no secret to weight loss – eat less (or choose more healthy items and portions) and move more.

But by creating a meal plan that is healthy, balanced, and nutritious, and by getting off the couch and doing anything that makes your body move, you are making changes that are INTERNAL, and cannot be reflected by the numbers on your scale.

I think when it comes to weight loss, we've decided that we want to be healthier, and this is the way to do it. Find out what you can do, and do it. (Remember - I went from taking a dozen prescription meds a day to just two: thyroid and Anastrozole. My labs - especially cholesterol and blood sugar - went from extremely high to normal. And my fibromyalgia pain, which had nearly crippled me for ten years, was almost gone, thanks to going gluten-free.)

You’ve got to have faith that it will all pay off in the long run!!!

Trust me on this. I have faith that every single one of you can accomplish your goals!!!

    xoxoxo

Hi Ladies! I'm happy to say I haven't gained an ounce. Haven't lost any either! But I'll take it! It's been one of those weeks. After finding out about my CT and Muga I threw dieting to the wind. The sad part (or good part) is it seems to have affected my sweet tooth. Haven't touched any of my daughters cake from her party. And I'm sorry but give me a Wegmans cake and I am putty in your hand. Guess that is a good thing. But then I found out my neighbor's (who is a good friend) brother was killed in an accident. Made me sad for her. But my bright spot were my beautiful angel bracelets! I look at them and smile.

To all the new friends - I will echo that I am sorry you are here but we are here for each other.

To all have procedures or waiting for tests - good luck I am in your pocket!

To my weight loss buddies - it may take a while but we'll get there and if we haven't learned anything else this past year remember life can change on a dime so enjoy the good things (in moderation)

Juneau - congratulations! And yes it is the photographer - the iPhone didn't point itself and press the shutter button!

    Have an amazing weekend!

    Karen
