Ocular is always 1 eye at a time...can be left or right, but always 1 at a time......mine was left......not that I'm keeping stats.....just saying........would prefer neither.....also my Doc said.......once you get a torn Retina in either eye, your chances of getting one in the other eye increase significantly, .......and the same apply's to the eye that already had a repaired tear......I will admit I have waited longer then I should have to see about new flashing, and this was what my Dr said.."You want to play Russian Roulette with your sight...feel free.....it's not my eyes."........." Just remember we can't fix blind from a completely torn Retina"............ .good point...right0 -
Yes..... vibrators! DH was also told he could NOT use one on his chest, near his pace-maker, or even on his neck.... or shoulders. It is one of those percussion types, and I just don't like how they "pound" you.....
Sass, so WHAT were you talking about? A vibrator helps Tinnitis? If I didn't hear the ringing, clicking or hum in my ears, I would REALLY think I had lost my hearing. The hearing aids help take your mind off of it though.
Di..... THAT was funny....Ha! You mean you don't have your OWN vibrator? I mean like YESTERDAY? I mean it isn't something NEW funny face!
So Alyson.... you FOUND it! That's like me.... looking all over for one of my hearing aids..... Man, I just almost panicked! It was already in. We need to install "beepers" on our important parts!0 -
Sass....just noticed this. Have been enjoying reading up on all the wisdom you produce about so many subjects. Really great to hear about all the ocular incidents.

ocular/ optic migraine the ways that they occur are different. They start in the area of the central field of vision near the macula. What's really occurring is in the brain. Once it starts it will move out to the margin edge of either the right field of vision or the left field of vision. The right field of vision consists of the right half of the right eye and the right half of the left eye. The left field of vision consists of the left side of the left eye and the left side of the right. The object that is sensed by the inner portion of either field of vision is transmitted by the optic nerve. The Inner or nasal aspect of the optic nerve crosses in the brain at the Optic Chiasm. The outside tract of the optic nerve goes to the occipital lobe on the same side. What is sensed in the right visual field is transmitted to the right occipital area in the brain. What is sensed by the left visual field is transmitted to the left occipital area of the brain. The occipital region of the brain is in the back of the brain. The brain is split into two hemispheres. Hence, in the evaluation of the eye, there are many ways to determine what is being affected by the tests that apply to the function being tested.
Retinal tears are different than ocular migraines

Jackie, that makes sooooo much sense....! and Sass, when you put it THAT way, it makes sense! Thanks for posting this!0 -
Lilli How sweet. That's a keeper for sure.
Di the bed is electric for position and vibration, have the hand held back vibrator , have a Brookstone vibrating chair that has a control that causes the roller to roll/knead-shiatsu/ pound and a couple other things, and a Brookstone foot massager with vibration and shiatsu. Needless to say we had/ have body parts that like to be massage LOL. A direction on the chair says "do not put genitals between rollers". Serious. I'm guessing they got sued when someone got hurt. Just a guess.

I think way back we clarified there was a difference between Ocular migraines, and a Retinal tears........what my Chief of OPTHOMOLOGY Surgery said was ......A RETINAL TEAR BEGINS EXACTLY LIKE AN OCULAR MIGRAINE.......
Point taken is be careful of Ocular migraines till your sure what it is....I am not an expert, and do not pretend to be, but my information which I shared with you ladies came from an expert, my personal , and not a text book or Google......... Enough of the pissing match ladies.....just take them seriously.......PHEW...enough said.......0 -
Chevy, that description is a snap with a drawing. Two circles with the optic nerves placed. Then arrows pointing to the Right visual field and two arrows pointing to the left visual field. Whew, not easy to type.
Spookie, when you got hit with the acorn you got hit in the back of the head. That's the occipital region. Not sure but I'ma thinking you had a concussive injury in the area and that's why you couldn't see. But would need a few more details.
To all. The reason each was asked about the headache with the flashing. Once the retina is ruled out as a source for the problem and the doc is close to a final dx. If the flashing is followed by a headache, then the dx is Migraine. If the flashing is not followed by a headache then it's given the name optic migraine. That transmits to any professional that when you have the Flashing , but no headache. The flashing which looks like looking through a prism that has many facets, lots of colors , as it moves out to the margin it becomes more loose ---like water flowing over glass and melting away.
Classical that's is the AURA for those that get the headache.
Gotta go someones waiting for dinner.

OMG....vibrators, rollers, auras....sounds like a porno flick...lol
Good day today...Herceptin side effects seem to be gone!
What's up with the margins....they seem short on the right side?

I was stunned. Sat I met a young woman who was just diagnosed with Stage 3c BC. She found a lump when she was 7 mo pregnant. She is 23 years old and had a mastectomy about 10 days ago. Her baby is 3 mo old.
She is much more together than I would be in her circumstances. I have heard that women were being diagnosed younger all the time, but she is the youngest I have heard of.
Her mother is Stage IV and the young mom had her BRCA test done today. Please keep her in your good thoughts and prayers.0 -
Sav......so sad.....I say...So unfair......me, I have lived my life.......people younger deserve better....God love and bless them all.....I am 78....,it's so wrong....prayers for her and her little one.....0 -
Thinking of you Savgigi! And your little friend..... Yes.... It's just un-believable. I am sooooooooooo fortunate, and lucky.... and I thank God! Man, she didn't stand a CHANCE! But she will be alright! They have really come a long ways now..... xoxoxoxo
My Mom also had breast cancer.... but she lived a long life after her Mastectomy.... and these women on here, are our great terstimonials for living with stage 4!0 -
Oh Miss GiGi....that is SO young to deal with this crap...will say an extra prayer for her tonight!

Sav that is awful to hear that about such a young woman, it's so sad. And she has a baby too. U said she seemed pretty positive too--which is amazing.
What's going on younger and younger it's crazy and by now they should be so close to a cure, I mean in the late 1800's they had chemo-altho not like what we have today but u't think 140 years latter there would be a cure.0 -
My chemo was the same chemo they used 30 years ago and it is a killer and saved my life. It would be nice if they could have one that worked as well but did not make you so sick. I had a man tell me that he thinks it is all about money and that it makes too much money to find a cure. What would all the hands in the bowl do if they found a cure. $$$$$ I know that I kinds felt that my reconstruction journey felt like a sell job.... WE CAN FIX YOU. YOU WILL BE PERKY ...... Well they fixed me but I can't handle it and I'm having it removed. Anyway it sometimes does fell like the $$$$$ side is more important then the cure. I still hope for better drugs for an easier journey.0 -
May God heal me, body and soul.
May my pain cease,
May my strength increase,
May my fears be released,
May blessings, love, and joy surround me.
Amen.

Sas. Fire away with ? I remember doc saying it hit optic nerve. Pretty colors, jagged like Charlie Browns shirt.0 -
Started on Navelbine today, didn't think I was going to have to do steroids with it, no such luck.I hate steroids. Cheomo wasn't too bad so far, except for terrible heartburn,ah well if its not one thing its another....0 -
Big hugs Miss Mary

Ah back from dinner, sinfully delicious--sinfully delicious. Must not do it again------char broiled oysters with grated parmesan and a sauce to die for. Actually, too much of that sauce eventually would kill.
The 175.00$ toilet seat came and is installed. I posted that Kohler directed me to Home Depot which saved 100$.(hd price75&+tax 83... Kudos to Kohler. For those that remember the link showing Kohlers 5900$ toilet. I had a nice chat with the Kohler contact about the toilets. She was so proud to talk about their toilets. My toilet is discontinued, but apparently was a "prize" at one time. If you Google NUMI and Kohler you will ROTFLOL. The gal said that the only problem is that because the toilet has a sensor for feet in front of it that causes the toilet seat to automatically open, that if a dog stands in front of the toilet>>>the seat opens. AND it then becomes a drinking source . She was so sweet and we laughed so hard on that one.
Don't know if this applies to HD, but Lowes when I was pricing faucets on line, directed me to the local store for store price. The local store gave me a much reduced price from their on line price for the same product.. Except for the last guy whom I'm guessing didn't know that's what they did--he quoted the online price. The second last guy from Lowes, I asked what this was all about. He said that it allows the local store to get the business. I'm all for that, it keeps the local stores open. FYI

Spookie -you said I think that you were hit in the back of the head? The occipital lobes right and left are in the back of the head. But the optic nerves are internal and well protected by the cranium. But a strong enough blow to the back of he head can affect the occipital lobes. All brain cells are connected to other nerves by nerve pathways. Getting your head hit hard enough, could set off a response. Lots of slang for it. "seeing stars" getting your clock rung" others can come up with many phrases. I'm thinking that the doc made the explanation easy b/c you're a lay person. Someone today mentioned a TMJ thing. My jaw froze after wisdom teeth removed at 19. Jaw hurt when I moved it so I didn't move it. It froze tighter than a drum(Hmm what's that phrase mean? lol). Anyways, the dentist said yes you can open your mouth, stuck four fingers in and tore my mouth open. I saw black and lots of stars and colors flitting--like the graphics in a comic book..
Did you lose consciousness? What did you experience? Was there any short term problems? Were there any long term problems? Is there anything that I didn't ask related to you?
Did the kids get punished?

Mary, apparently I forgot to hit submit. I'm clueless about oncology drugs. Is there a navelbine thread? Let navelbine be the one.... GO MARY........MaRvuLous That you had a great time Saturday.

As I said, bratty boys were throwing these acorns at each other. One got me in the middle part of the back of my head. It hurt a bit. I think I pulled over to check me, and to yell at them. I heard one of them say "I didn't mean to hit her". I couldn't get to their stop fast enough. I had about a 20 min drive to get the bus parked. No cell phone or radio. No way to get help. So I drove. By the time I parked it, it had eased up.
I thought it was weird, so went to doc. No problems since.
Yes, they all got bus suspensions, their parents had to pay attention to them and be inconvienced to drive the brats.0 -
Savi- so sad for he young one and her young one.........prayers.
Flatsy---much talk in that regard. it is difficult when you here a physician quoted as "I am treating breast cancer just like I did 30 years ago"..... B/c of reading different charities web sites "research and funding" pages of what money grants they provide, It would seem that we would be farther along than we are. Lots of money going out for research, but don't know what it's producing. Can't say if memory serves me well on this one. But the BCRF- Breast Cancer Research Fund, besides listing what they funded, had a section on what the breakthroughs were, that their research dollars went too. That was different than Komen's which only listed what they funded.

Mary I'm sorry those steroids are tuff on you. I loved them One of my chemos I didn't need Benedryl or sterids and I asked for both cuz I loved those 2 so she said OK, like u'r goofy. Bu with Navelbine the side effects were much less then any others that I heard about----but u know everyone is different on every single chemo. And I pray they are easy for u.
Chicky that was so pretty.0 -
Sassy - Lowes called us couple weeks ago. Might have told this already. Refund due us for paying to have water heater elevated and it wasn't needed. We never thought about the labor cost but we did return the actual box they would have used. Nice of them to find the $90. We spent about $200 mid Oct. on new paint there. I like Lowes. And yes I remember the uber toilet discussion. I think it might have been a hot very slow Saturday on here.
I had a Rodmans pharmacy book. I graduated in 1983 (age 31) after going back to school. I was a premed major 1st time around - biology with chem minor.
They use Inderal for stage fright too I think. The first few doses of the metoprolol I took I felt kinda "mellow". Wish that sensation would have lasted LOL.
Mary - hope new chemo does the trick and steroids wear off quickly for you.0 -
Gigi, healing thoughts for the young mother.
SAS, No one mentioned a pacemaker. It only happens with vomiting or diarrhea. Now I know what not to do. I was extremely nauseated in bed, but when I lifted my head the room began to darken. I decided I'd rather barf in the bed than pass out. In the end the nausea passed and I did neither.0 -
Wren, The vagus nerve is called the wanderer. If you look at an anatomy pic of what organs it affects you will surmise my question. So that one nausea barfing issue was the only time? Sorry to tired to go back to post. Remind me , please, to revisit that last post of yours to better formulate a question L&H's sassy
LMG I love Lowes too. That was really nice customer service.
Rodman's LOL Loved the book, the drug family organization was masterful. They updated frequently. That's why it was such a shock when I went back to use my favorite friend in Pharmacology and it had been passed on by in only 4 years LOL. But I got a new one and all the new stuff was there. Always taught the students. Know the drug family well, then when a new drug in the family comes along, you know everything about it except it's dose and it's quirks. Kind of like a new baby......Inderal--Yes, I'd forgotten the stage fright application. .Inderal can be used for an essential tremor too. But insurance companies don't view it that way. Inderals rebound is really what cut it out of the market once metoporol came in. Then when Coreg came metoporol was cut back., Then way back when coreg went generic..
Two drugs that were the scariest with rebound-- Inderal and capoten. Krips missing those doses by and hour was trouble. But Catapress patches were a blessing when someone was out of control and drugs were being combined to garner control . Reminds me of a time I found a catapress patch with the working patch on top of the cover patch. Yikes. Hated making that phone call.
But I loved Rodmans, it had the bestest description of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, and how the drugs applied. I loved those two systems. A Yin and Yang. Never said it that way, but I think maybe there's an application there?
To bed L&H's to all sassy
