    Chloes,

    Here's the recipe:

    The Crust

1/2 cup plus 1 tbs of Teff Flour

    3 Tbs white rice flour

    1/4 cup sugar

    1/4 tsp salt

    2 Tbs cream cheese

    3 Tbs unsweetened cocoa powder

6 Tbs unsalted butter, (room temp) cut into little pieces

    1 1/2 tsp water

    1/2 tsp vanilla extract

(1 egg yolk mixed with pinch of salt and 1/2 tsp water this is the egg wash)

    The Filling

4 Tbs unsalted butter cut into chunks

    2/3 cup of sugar

1/4 cup plus 2 Tbs unsweetened cocoa powder

    1 1/2 cups whipping cream

    1 tsp instant espresso powder

    3/4 tsp vanilla extract

1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk

    What you do:

    First make the crust

1.) MIx the flours, 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 cup sugar in a food processor pulse until well mingled

2.) Add in 6 Tbs butter chunks, 2 Tbs cream cheese, 1 1/2 tsp water, 1/2 tsp vanilla

3.) pulse until you have a smooth dough

4.) lightly grease a 9 1/2 inch tart pan with removable bottom

put dough in the tart pan

then heres what I do: this is illustrated with another gluten free crust I make, but the technique is the same

Place a piece of Saran wrap or cling film over the dough.

    image

Then using your fingers push the dough out to fill in the bottom of the tart pan and up onto the sides of the pan.

    image

This makes spreading your crust a LOT easier, especially when working with gluten free flour which can be sticky. It also keeps your paws off the dough.
Work the dough up into the sides of the pan like so.

    image

The Saran wrap makes that easier too.
Keep the plastic wrap on top of the dough and pop it into the fridge for at least 2 hours, or even overnight

    heat oven to 325 degrees

put tart pan on a baking sheet on a rack in the bottom 3rd of the oven

bake for 35 or 40 minutes but check after 15 minutes it it starts to puff up on the bottom, press it down careful, use the back of a fork if you have to.

Bake until the crust is a darker brown and starts to pull away from the edge of the pan.

    Start the filling

In a pot combine the 2/3 cup of sugar, 1 and 1/2 cups whipping cream, and 1/4 cup plus 2 Tbs cocoa powder, 4 Tbs chunked up butter.

Heat it over medium flame stirring until blended and smooth and it starts to simmer around the edges

take it off the heat and add in the vanilla and espresso powder stir them in and set it aside

When the crust is done take it out of the oven but eave the oven on

brush the bottom and side sof the tart with the egg wash and put it back into the oven for another 2 minutes to set.

When that's done, take it out of the oven, lower the oven heat to 300 degrees, take your filling that you've set aside and whisk in the whole egg and the egg yolk

Pour the filling into the hot pie crust and put it back into the oven.

Bake it until the filling quivers a bit in the center, like tender jello instead of sloshing when the pan is nudged

Alice says this can take between 15 minutes to 30 minutes. I have a chefs oven and even with that it took about 30 minutes to set. Keep an eye on stuff is all.

put the tart pan on a rack to cool.

when cooked remove the sides and put on a serving platter. You can serve this warm at room temp or cold

Ducky, your story is interesting and if my PT does not work then the next step is the acupuncture stuff. For now my back is much better and they are helping me with balance as well. Course the trainer this morning decided to up the level of the silly obstical course he sets up for me. But my PT said I was doing better and I can tell that it is better. I was checking online about spinal stenosis, seems that is likely the cause of my stupid feet and numbness there so maybe he can help out there.

Sula, wish I could get back into baking but if I bake then it is in the house and I would likely eat it!

    Gaia,

holy moley!! that is some limber going on! I am mightily impressed. I only did yoga briefly early on in my life and I know even at 20 I could never have done that. I was a runner at first diagnoses and after chemo kept getting tiny fractures, and I was constantly being scanned because it kept showing up as potential bone mets...so after about my fourth bone scan, Cat scan I was told no running..I switched to fast race walking..yes I looked like a goofball doing that then after a number of years I started back with the running. I have a friend who was diagnosed out of the box stage IV and that was nearly 10 years ago, she's still working, hanging with her husband and kids (who are now in College) and planning a trip to Italy next year. She gets around more than I do! We get our herceptin on the same day so we always sit together, the oncology nurses introduced us as they thought we'd get along and we do. That's inspiration! I'm sure the tx will improve things vastly, she said it did that for her. She had bone mets at diagnoses.

    Tomboy,

' you need to take that stuff to market, you're so talented!! Do you sell on Etsy? or in a store in LA somewhere?

    Jacki,

if I see you playing on that corner, I'll go get my uke! you sure have the dream stuff down cold

    Ducky,

interesting about that acupuncture as St Johns in Santa Monica, which was my nabe hospital back in LA has a program going treating women who have pain on AIs with accupuncture,. It's part of some kind of trial and it's free. Don't remember whether I saw something about it on this site of somewhere else, but a bunch of hospitals around the US are participating. Good to hear that it had results for you. I bought a TENS machine a few years back to use for some back problems from running and that worked well too.

    Slow,

it's hot up here too though not like down there. I'm cooking eggplants with cilantro and amchur powder (dried powdered mango) for lunch and I made another one of those tarts for "a friend" no really.

Just popping in quickly to say thank you to say thank you everyone for your kind words about my dental appointment. It ended up horrific..!! They removed the tooth.. But it took a full hour.. After the previous root canals the sides of the tooth shattered.. and the blighter still wouldn't come.. So the dentist cut the tooth in half, and removed it in bits and pieces.. Which was still a major effort as I apparently had long curved roots.! Well of course my roots would be curved.. Anything that can go wrong will.!!! 😞

Sula.. All the food looks amazing!

Gaia.. Wow!! Look at you!! So agile !

Katy.. 16 years with mets.. That's wonderful !

Slow.. Yep.. I think there is s major connection with the thyroid and breast cancer.. I've been in remission from Graves Disease for quite a few years.. I nearly had a heart attack when the doctor said I had "Graves Disease " 😱

    Hi to everyone..!

I've been revisiting Natalie Merchant's sweet and thoughtful music the last few days and when this song comes around I think of this special place and everyone who populates Crazy Town. Now and forever.https://youtu.be/HqP6bNRxFdk"Kind & Generous"

You've been so kind and generous
I don't know how you keep on giving
For your kindness I'm in debt to you
    For your selflessness, my admiration
    And for everything you've done

    You know I'm bound...
I'm bound to thank you for it

You've been so kind and generous
I don't know how you keep on giving
For your kindness I'm in debt to you
And I never could have come this far without you
    So for everything you've done

    You know I'm bound...
I'm bound to thank you for it

    I want to thank you
    For so many gifts
You gave with love and tenderness
    I want to thank you

    I want to thank you
    For your generosity
    The love and the honesty
    That you gave me

    I want to thank you
    Show my gratitude
My love and my respect for you
    I want to thank you

    I want to...

    Thank you
    Thank you
    Thank you
    Thank you
    Thank you
    Thank you

    Hi Again Crazies!

Ducky that is an amazing little creature and I think that onesie predicts his future!

Sula I have to admit I secretly ( or not so) hope that the 'mets are really just a ton of tiny cumulative fractures from all of my years of intense practice.....PS those hands of yours! I am a hands freak.... gorgeous full of life and purpose hands. I love!

Lucy feeling for you and the 'tooth experience' ugh. hope you have what you need t rest!

Tomboy - Katy says you are still under.... Thinking of you.

    Katy- always in my thoughts

To all of you lovely and amazing women who visit CT, erected and inspired by Slow and Tomboy, all of us know so little about each other, but here we are sharing pieces of ourselves, maybe in some ways the most private pieces. I hate being 'here' for this reason, this beast of a reason, but at that same time I am moved by each of you everyday.

    Good Evening Crazies!!

Tomboy, I hope you feel better soon. Thinking of you dear friend.

Sula, Too bad it wouldn't post! I figured you were having some technical difficulties. I can always count on you to make me hungry!! haha I printed out that recipe of yours, and put in on my DH's desk. I hope he takes the hint. I also have a tens unit for my neck, but I was told not to use it. The pain management PT lady said I shouldn't be stimulating blood flow in that area after a cancer diagnosis. The local PT person I was seeing used it at every visit. Conflicting info. When I go back to PT, I will have to get that sorted out.

Gaia, My endo appointment was a waste of time. I drove 40 min. each way, and she spent about two minutes with me. Then she ordered an ultrasound. If I had known an ultrasound was coming, I would have requested the test before the visit. Saw the department head of ENT today, and he gave me the all clear. He said the swelling of the paratoid is caused by my RA. I'm good with that assessment.

I've spent some time on the corner of manic and inconsolable back when I was diagnosed with flesh eating bacteria twelve years ago. I set up shop there for a considerable amount of time. I'm so sorry you're struggling. You certainly don't sound like a baby. It's good you're talking about your feelings. We are all here to listen and support you. There are so many stage 4 ladies on BCO that have lived with mets for a very long time. As Alyson said, one lady is chrissyb who was diagnosed stage 4 in 2003. I hope you're able to connect with some of them. I'm very impressed with your past yoga moves!! I'm hoping once your treatment starts, you'll be able to do them again. I can barely tie my shoe!! haha

My DH and I saw Natalie Merchant in Phoenix before my BC diagnosis. I've always loved her music. She is getting up there in years, just like the rest of us, but she still sounds the same. She put on an awesome show which was sold out.

koshka, hope all goes well with your squish-o-gram tomorrow!! We will all be in your pocket. Please keep us updated!

queen, I hope all went well with your start of rads!! Wishing you minimal SE's!!

Katy, I'm excited that you're making progress with your PT. I've also stopped and started, and hope to go back once I'm done with all this new round of testing.

Kathy, Tomboy is so talented. You should visit her blog!!! I've been waiting for her Etsy store for awhile now!! hint...hint...

Ducky, Bobby is such a cutie pie!! I would be so happy to watch that boy a few times a week. He sure is a big boy!! Love the chunky legs!! My babies had chunky legs too.

Lucy, Ouch!!! You poor dear. I was hoping they could save your tooth. You've sure gone through a lot with that darn tooth. Gentle hugs to you!! I'm still not sure about the thyroid. They want an ultrasound now. I really hope they don't add ANOTHER disease to my chart. I feel like a bad SNL skit.

Hope you all had a pain free day. Love to all!!

Gaia tha pose is beauutiful! I hear you. I was doing some amazing stuff with my body until my BMX in Dec and then it's been downhill since I stared the AIs in April. I couldn't bend over to buckle my sandals today. Now I go to silver sneakers yoga where we do poses seats in a chair. I have about 1/2 the range of the 80 year olds in the class Lol. But I keep trying to move. It's that or freeze up LO

First rad went not horribly, although the machine reminded me of a) a mechanized lamprey/leech and b) HAL. Doesn't help that one of the technicians was a guy named Dave. Just hoping they're not aficionadoes of Arthur Clarke/Stanley Kubrick. Don't wanna explain why I'm humming the Blue Danube Waltz.

    koshka,

Oooooo no lampreys, but yes I can definitely see the resemblance. When I had my first MX eons ago, for some reason there were all these old dudes getting some sort of ass surgery, soooooo there I was lying on the gurney with a Valium drip and there was a line up of geezers with their butts in the air. I'll never forget it!!!!

    Gaia,

Thanks for the compliments on my hands, no ones ever complimented me on them before. For a writer I have tough cooks hands, actually I have trouble with fine gloves as my hands are big for someone my size. You really are the picture of grace in that yoga pose.

    Slow,

I wish I could make that tart for you!! I haven't used my tens machine since I got it, as soon as it arrived my back pain stopped! So, yeah I guess it really works well!

    Ducky,

I like Bobby's onesie... He's a real little dream boat.

    Lucy,

Sorry for your tooth problems. I had a bunch of those after chemo 25 yrs ago. I actually lost 3 teeth, which I replaced with dental implants. Not fun but hey I can bite. I have to go to the dentist tomorrow as I have a tooth that's a bit sensitive and I just had a prolia shot a couple of months ago, so I'm a bit nervous. I'm glad they gave you something for the pain.

    Tomboy,

Hope tomorrow is a better day for you and you're feeling better soon.

Hope everybody else is doing well tonight. I really love this room!!!

11 hours until I find out my bone scan fate. I doubt it will show anything BUT when I was diagnosed my husband got the day off at the last minute and showed up at the mammogram. I think someone higher up orchestrated that so I didn't have to hear those words alone. Tomorrow he was supposed to go out of town overnight for work and tonight the boss called and canceled it. Both of our stomachs dropped. Deja vu. Hopefully this isn't a sign that he will need to be available for bad news. Yuck.

I call the first row of the crazy train tonight.
