Oh Rainny, I LOVED that Marcella Hazan piece. My mother introduced her cooking to me.

Loved the cocktails before lunch, empty champagne glasses, first the side shot of the ashtray, then she just lights up! She was beautiful on the cover of that early book and it choked me up when she said she didn't cook at all before she met Victor, but when he would jump out of his chair to come and kiss her, it made her want to cook. For him.

I also noticed Bittman's How To Cook Anything was on her shelf as they panned by. And interesting that she uses so few spices. Very simple food. What a charmer! Made my evening! Even more than the Daily News article. This is living at its finest. RIP, Marcella. Try to find my mom up there and have lunch one day, ok?

Hi all: I am still struggling after chemo Round Two but I think today I am rounding the corner. No more fever, and more energy! It is a beautiful cool day here in the Great Central Valley and I am happy to sit in my back yard and feel like fall is approaching...I am sad not to be in NYC with my dear son, but I will have a chance this winter, when I am done with treatment.

Will pipe back in soon with a Mom story. In the meantime, I just wanted to send hugs to all. Thanks for being there

    Jackie- That IS porn! Beautiful!

Mommy- Thanks for morning Hug! You know I don't think my real Mom ever really did that so it's nice to have one from Mom now! I do give my kids daily hugs:). And DH- well, we're so busy, maybe don't- but will!

Octo- I'm glad you're feeling well enough to sit outside and enjoy the natural world. I'm so used to the New England fall- lived here all my life- can't really imagine what the CA fall is like. Also protein is really good for you right now. When I was in chemo I went around looking for bone marrow soup (at the local Tibetan and Vietnames restaurants) though you can also make your own.

Mulligan- I'm also in the wait and see/rescan club. Your attitude is healthy about it. I just asked the BS to reschedule it further away from xmas so we'll see what she says. I have kids in 7th and 8th grade and their schedules even at this age keep me busy before and after school. Today I was up at 5:30 baking a coffee cake for a parent meeting. And of course I went to bed too late which I is my own fault.

Slow- I know the day will come when my kids leave and I'll miss them so. Though they're going to DC on a school trip at the beginning of November and I am looking forward to a mini vacation.

Iris- I did acupuncture during my tx, and it was amazing. It was offered through the local cancer center and I think it helped me keep up my energy much more than I would have normally. I usually went the day after chemo. She also worked on my arm recovery as well. I probably should go back for a tune up.

Poppy- I'm due for first colonoscopy. But I don't want to do it cause I hate any more tests of any kind- yes right back to Crazy Town!

re:Crazytown pharmacy- Italychx- I like the cookie dispenser through tubes straight to the home. Also some MJ which I didn't have during my treatment, but wish I had- would have taken off the edge. Just became legal in MA.

gas cancer, eyebrow cancer.... this really is CrazyTown.

Hi everybody. Sorry I did not come and report back to you sooner, when I got home yesterday, I could not wake up. I was so worried with the symptoms I was/am having, I was too crazy for crazy town! Actually, I was just holding really too still. I wish they could have sent me to a neurologist before doing a ct scan of my brain. But as soon as I mentioned head aches, I guess they had to. So, they only thing I think must have happened, was that I actually DID have a tumor on my brain, but Katy's Mojo drip disappeared it before it could be imaged. Powerful stuff you have there, Katy, thanks, and for everybody else who was in my pocket. For some reason, my bs is the one who followed up on it, she told me to take a two week holiday from tamoxifen, that maybe that is what is causing severe daily head ache lately. Her and I also talked about taking out this reactive node that is on my side. Absolutely not. she flat out refused. Told me I already had out too many!! I told her it wasn't working, anyway, all the tissue around there is full of edema. It's on my side, right where the bra presses on it, and I think that is part of the reason it stays inflamed. I think they know its full of cancer, and just don't want to prove it. She did refer me to the pain clinic there, so that is good. I guess. I get all happy when I think we might get to the bottom of why I still have so much pain, until I remember that we never find out why, all that happens is I see another doc, and no reason is found. I am so over it. And no explanation why there is a swelling on the back of my neck/head, and oh yeah, she kept NOT feeling the lump on the front of my neck... I promise I will come back to c-town soon, and quit being so focused on my self. I am so heartily sick of ...me.

How and Why to Make Bone Broth

Momwriter- funny and relevant post. I quite agree with you on the bone broth. Easy to make. Let's not forget one of the original antibiotics: Jewish penicillin. Otherwise known as chicken bone broth. Am I right?

I am now thinking of making some today. Smells awesome while it is "brewing".

Cold compresses and two antibiotics (doxycycline and amoxicillin). Also a strict abjuration from my PCP to go straight to the ER if I don't improve within 48 hours, for IV antibiotics

    So sorry QMC!

Thanks for the tomatoes Jack. Better than my own right now.

Tomboy, hugs! We miss you and will wait right here on the porch for you.

Yep, have already had the Jewish penicillin. One of my specialties, actually. With matzoh balls. Have to make more. Protein really does help.

And CRAP! The fever just came back. Shot up to 100. Called MOs office but since I don't have other symptoms and my WBC have been so good they don't seem nearly as crazy about the whole thing as I am. Just told me to rest, hydrate, take OTC pain and fever reducers, and call them again if I get any cold symptoms again (which of course I had but which are now gone.). I think I have the fever cancer.

Octogirl, Hope your fever goes down and gets out!

Well on the medicare thing, I have spoken to my insurance agent, Medicare, the Medicare Suppliment folks as well as my doctor and the therapy place also. They all tell me there is a max on PT visits. Had I realized that, likely I would have spaced out my visits but honestly, I was in so much pain from the dang spinal stenosis, I just wanted relief. Medicare will cover 30 or so visits. Course according to the folks at United Healthcare (my supplier) if I lived in Wisconsin, then the coverage is better and then the acupuncture would be covered! It seems the covered is dif by each state. Not planning on moving to Wisconsin.

So my plan is lots of doing the excercises given to me, lots of pool time and yeap, will try out the acupuncture and just plan on out of pocket..

Guess it is a learning thing. Course if I were not allergic to NSAIDS then I would take some dang pills

Did buy a new bottle of wine so......

haha! I guess I'm not as experienced as I thought!

I'm guessing I've had sinkers, but I suspect I'd love floaters, too. Once upon a time I used to have a very stressful job. A pressure cooker. I found a little Jewish diner tucked away 5 minutes from my office. The matzoh ball soup always made me feel better. I can almost taste them now.

Taste and texture. The broth was dense with flavor. I've never even tried to make them. I'm wondering if Rainny's Ravioli of Hoboken book has aught to say about matzoh. I think I'll go check.

Proud- that's so frustrating about the max on PT- that's the kind of thing that would come back to bite them because people will just get worse without the PT-

Queen- hope you feel better soon.

Tomboy- sounds like you went again through the psychological wringer. It's like we wear a scarlet BREAST and that's all the doctors can see. So when we feel something they don't treat us the way they would the civilian population because they are so fearful of a recurrence/spread no matter how unlikely or likely. But it does seem there must be a middle ground or a new way of approaching it- because there are millions of stressed out women because of this. Savor the quiet and hope you find your center soon.

mom, yeah but the pain management guys are happy to give out drugs! course I tried some once and it took me weeks for my tummy to get normal again

I even remarked to the PT guys that I really did not understand how folks could get addicted to meds that had such nasty side effects

If I could just find some folks who say wow, the shots fixed me up or wow, the surgery fixed me up! How can a problem so common not have a better treatment? ok, venting over for now

I just read that everyone should have ice cream in the house for therapeutic values~~where is my ice cream?

    wow....this place is busy!!

I wanted to poke my head in and say hello..and that I'm fighting the crazy again. Just went to see new MO Monday and he called today and said I need to come back in a month to re-run labs. My liver AST is slightly elevated....so yeah here comes crazy. bleh!!!

tangandchris- I had had elevated liver enzymes off and on for over a year, just prior to starting chemo. Since I stopped taking certain medications like gabapentin/neurontin, and also drinking the juice of a lemon in hot water first thing every morning, joint pain and AST and ALT were reduced, (to within normal ranges during 6 cycles TC) the latter of which were elevated almost 4 X high normal. Lemons are also high in potassium. Couldn't hurt to try it for a month. Best of luck.

Octo and Momwriter: thank you! I'm starting to feel a titch better, both physically and emotionally. Either the antibiotics are kicking in or whining in/on CrazyTown really does help. My Queen of the NosyParkers little old lady neighbor has examined me with an intense scrutiny and ordered me to ask her for help if she needs it, which helps too.

Jackbirdie: o-0? Didn't know that about doxycycline. I've had my share of sinus infections and tooth abscesses, but this erysipelas is a new one on me; it's been variants on the -cilllins in the main. I'm guessing my PCP wasn't taking any chances just now, but I'm gonna ask "How do I avoid getting this in future?"

I grew up in a pretty firmly goyim environment so 'floaters vs. sinkers' took me a second. Where might I find out more, from a consumption standpoint?
