January 2017 Surgery Group

Hi ladies. I have been reading but not posting much. It is so nice to come here and know thst everyone knows how you feel and what you are going through. Right now I am doing the lovely waiting game. I thought I would know early this week my Oncotype DX score but found out on Thursday that the lab doesn't even have my sample yet. Seems like the surgeons office just got the ball rolling on Wednesday so it looks like another 2 weeks until I know if I need chemo. So I start trolling the chemo pages to see if everyone's diagnoses are worse than mine and then you find a few with your stage, grade, size and Er+ Pr+ that you have and you know it is that damn score. Good thing is that I go back to work on Monday so I can keep busy.

Question ladies,
How can we get more ladies who are having sugery in February join us here? I know the title/topic was set for January surgeries but is there any way we can change the main title? Our group is so AWESOME! I thought that we share our love to those who are having the same surgery as we did. Oh by the way it was COLD today! ~givin yall sum shuga~

well, on top of this group being the NICEST and most SUPPORTIVE, I think you are also the PRETTIEST - inside and out with the most ADORABLE dogs and cats!!
my internet was out for a few hours today - was so nice to have forced disconnection - we should all unplug for awhile and just go outside (if not too cold) and breathe!! ahhhhhh.....

well I'm glad there wasn't anything wrong!! I took a break from it most of the day too. Decided to download some books to my iPad...seems like forever since I've read a book. I go through stages where I read nonstop and then I don't read for months. Anyways, I jumped on quick to see what everyone was up to and couldn't believe the last post was by me 7 hours prior. That's good though...we do need to break from it every now and again but funny that we all did for 7 hours today...talk about connection!
Ok my sisters, have a beautiful night and no shit fairy visits! ❤️

I'm still here!
Fightngirl, I do the same thing with reading. I get obsessed and can't stop, then won't touch a books for months. And I only had my lumpectomy a few days ago, so I don't have any insight or words so wisdom for you. and I hope you feel better soon! I hate being sick.
Annoyingboob, thanks for the info on your procedure and glad you are feeling better about your pending treatment. I am anxiously awaiting my fate still. Don't meet with MO until Feb 6.
Cowboyup, I know exactly what you mean. I've been doing the same thing. But I find that everyone's treatments are running the gammet, whether diagnoses is better or worse. So my attempt at figuring it out on my sleuthing skills alone is a bust. 😂
It's so hard to respond to everyone's posts, and those of that do are awe inspiring. You are all my little angels of the inter webs and I thank you all so much for your posts, strength, and courage! 💪❤️ I can't express how much it helps get me through this insane time of my life

fightingirl, danicalifor...I am the same way with reading, too! Always a voracious reader, now I am totally all in or all out. I surely need to jump into some new books to keep my mind off unwanted territory. Like now, when the shit fairy has kept me awake and I'm back downstairs visiting with y'all.
When I'm trying to sleep I just seen to feel the tumor growing! Since I still have a couple of weeks until my Feb 16 BMX, I feel like it's a race of some sort. Yep, that's the shit fairy talking to me.
I did get satin VS pjs and boxers as recommended by my nurse navigator to help getting out of bed afterward, all washed and ready. Got some cosynew slippers I'm saving until after, little treats to hopefully bring a smile. Got my wedge pillow too, it's off-gassing until ready. Kind of like nesting for a new baby 🙄. Ha! Two new babies- literally ( if all goes well)
Who else could we turn to in the middle of the night to understand all this? Love you all, dear ones

win-chimed, damn girl! You're gorgeous!!
Cowboyup, yep! Come and have a wait with us! There are several including myself waiting on the test for chemo. I'm waiting on the mammaprint test and I don't think I find out until feb 9th. It's frustrating but you have the right idea...stay busy!
Thanks also guys, I am starting to feel better...went for a reflexology massage today. They just opened a place by my house and it was $32 for an hour massage! I couldn't pass that up. I'd like to do that more but already have medical bills rolling in and about to miss more work for my radiation so we'll see if I can work it into the budget once in awhile! Felt ah-mszing

Had my lumpectomy 1/10/17. OncoType came back at 27. See MO next week to go over my choices

Girls, when I checked there were only a few posts as well. My daughter (who is VERY pregnant ) stopped by with my youngest grandson. DH and SIL went to a pick a part junk yard to get car parts. (Those boys love their toys) so my daughter and the baby were here all day. I so enjoyed chasing and cuddling with my little chubba-chubba. He's a big boy for 21 months and I know I will not be able to pick him up for a few weeks so I just wanted to hold him all afternoon. I an not sleeping well and it's not the shit fairy keeping me up its my nose! I am so afraid I'm getting a sinus infection and my pre-op is Tuesday. I have everything in place and do not want this postponed for any reason. Any of you girls take antibiotics the week before surgery? TMI... I am coughing up small balles of yellow phlegm. At night it's like my throat closes up and I have a hard time swallowing. What to do!
Hope all you ladies are resting and kicking BC to the curb! Enjoy your Sunday. I'll be back later.

I decided to check back in while I fed my girl breakfast. When I feed her breakfast and lunch it's usually just me so if I actually sit down to feed her I "surf the web". So when I did a while page of post popped up that didn't when I looked earlier. Windchimed, damn girl you are gorgeous! We did have a beautiful group of ladies! Annoyingboob, love love lovery the letter to the shit fairy! I live Bevmomduck pearls and what they stand for so what better to do than choke that fairy with them! Figthingirl, did you find something good to read? I am not a reader. ..I can't sit still to read. When I do in fall asleep. Fifty Shades of Grey was the last book series I read and stayed awake for. Sad I know. I think I will get the Book Of Joy that has been talked about maybe I can stay awake for it.
When I read all the post I realize how little I actually know about BC. I just get overwhelmed when I start to research and then can't do it. My one appointment with my BS said no chemo, big maybe on radiation and medication for 5 years. I totally took that as the gospel. Now I am thinking there could be a chance that will change. When I see mammaprint, oncotype and other things I'm like WTH I should understand and know all that! Then I freeze and go clean something! If my house is clean and in order then my life is to....right girls? !?!

Vargadoll, I noticed your surgery is tomorrow. I had mine Thursday. I thought I was getting a sinus infection before my surgery. I only had headache with no other symptoms.
Since your nose and throat/breathing are symptoms. I would call the anesthesia department today, and explain your situation. Call your bs also.
I feel for you, because I was so worried before my surgery. So I was cruising the web.
I do have a very sore throat, probably from the tube insertion, and I am phlegmy. My glands around my neck under my chin were very swollen, it has gotten better. I am on an antibiotic.
This stinks that it's Sunday, and that you may have to postpone. Your health is upmost important before surgery, so CALL.

LisabeKind, my surgery is actually the 7th of February. I have my pre-op this Tuesday a week before that's why I was thinking if I need medication I could probably to a quick zpak a d be done. I normally would just care for this myself but the game has totally change with this stupid BC! Thank you for your input. I think I will just go after church. My PCP has a weekend clinic that is open until 6 today
Thank you

Ok, good you have time. Rest!
I have anesthesia head, along with narcotics. I'm guessing that's why I confused your surgery date. I'm glad your date is later so you can get better.

Bevmomduck,
Hey, I'm in concord, NC. We are neighbors. Are you having your procedure in charlotte? I had mine at Northeast in Concord.
I think I'm going to get a second opinion. I'm looking at either Duke or Wake. I'm going to check with my insurance on Monday.

Hi Vargadoll,
I was sick with a barking cough after my Jan 4 lumpectomy. It started on the 7th and it wasn't easing up. My SNB was scheduled for the 26th and my BS felt a week before surgery that my lungs sounded ok upon auscultation. But at night I was barking to the point of choking! He said we could postpone, but I was not hoping for that. I took a zpack 250mg . From 20 th to 23rd as directed.it cleared up completely . Surgery was on. Went went well and I have a slight sore throat , but it is from having that LM tube the anesthesiologist used this time around. It was just sore for a day. I too, was dx with Dcis pre op and told the same as you were but my tumor did have an invasive component . So it kinda changed the game for me. But many people do not have any of that so don't worry. You are going to rock this ! Love ya Vargadoll . Get well ❤💗🌸

Ugh, Vargadoll, I too have a bit of a cold going on. It settled last night into my - throat I guess. Hoping that nobody cares when I go for the catheter placement for radiation tomorrow morning. Coughing a bit and my throat is really mad (most likely from post-nasal drip). Take care of yourself and recover as much as you can before surgery!
My surgery day also happened to be day two of "that time of month" and I get horrible horrible cramps. Of course, I couldn't take any medicine due to surgery so I was all sorts of miserable waiting for a 2:00 surgery time. They made me do a pregnancy test within moments of me asking for a big pile of maxi pads ... LOL.
Funny "shit fairy" story - for the longest time I thought the "shit fairy" was visiting people after surgery to relieve their constipation. I couldn't figure out why people didn't want her to visit!

Good luck and wonderful thoughts and prayers to the girls going this week! I would name you all personally but I see some names on the list who seemed to have dropped out. I know vicwytch and abj and shellybeans are going. Soon we will all be done with our surgeries ( well at least one of them -lol) and will all be in the bungalow. It was a scary month but my did it go by fast or what?! Where I live it was a good time to have surgery . It's cold and snowy out anyway. My husband and I went to a hockey game last night (first time there without my breasts) and I found myself looking forward to the awesome new one s my PS is going to build me. I'm finally beginning to heal enough at almost 3 weeks post op to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Good luck to all of us hearing about chemo this week as well. Low numbers!

yay 3 bears! Glad to see you up, out, and about!!
I'm sure it's this weather that has everyone snotty and sick. Bundle up and take care of yourselves ladies!!

I agree 3bears - nice to feel like there can still be a "normal" (or new normal) life out there for us! Hooray for hockey games, grandkids (not yet for me thank you, my daughter is only 16!), dinners out with friends, Target runs, whatever it may be. We had a couple friend of ours over last night and we played Mexican train dominoes and talked about NOT cancer. It was so refreshing.
Especially nice because I was having a bit of a pity party yesterday morning. I still have one drain in and I have a dr appointment tomorrow. In my mind I already had the drain out and was driving, but I'm still getting 50cc/day routinely from it so I'm not too optimistic now that it's going to be removed tomorrow and I'm pretty bummed out about it. I know you all understand! Unmet expectations - boy we could write some books about that

Greetings ladies!
I'm new here to this site . Hope I can join your group here? I just had a skin sparing bilateral masectomy with left lymph node removal.I also had my ovaries and tubes removed at the same time. I was stage 2 and already finished 16 rounds of chemo b4 my surgery that occured on 1/13.
I have decided to wait on reconstruction but meanwhile these 2 1/2 wks have been VERY rough physically and emotionally trying to recover. Was doing ok for about a week and then noticed infection starting in my left breast area where the incision was as well as dying tissue. On antibiotics now, and see doc again on Wednesday. I am not sure what is going to be done about the dying/dead tissue but hoping for the best.
I am hoping to find some support here as well as share my experiences and offer support/hope to others where I can.
Well wishes to all of you currently recovering!

Hi LamaMama - Of course you can join us, although we wish you didn't have to! We've come up with a cool little group here
Two things of vital importance .... (edited to add - I'm not so serious of a person that I truly think these items are vital, so I am hoping you read it as the joke it is intended as here! We are so glad to have the opportunity to get to know you and to support you, as well as to learn from your knowledge!)
1) Do you have a pet? We all shared photos of our kitties and puppies about a week ago. If you didn't see it you should scroll back, there are some seriously cute furbabies in this group!
2) it will help us all to support you if you put as much of your diagnosis and treatments as you are comfortable sharing into the system and make them public so they show up in the signature line. That way we don't have to remember all of the details of each other when we have conversations
Sorry to hear that you have to deal with an infection and related issues, that has to be rough. I don't know what they will have to do for that either but I am relieved that you are treating it already and have a followup on Wednesday.

Questions ladies
I had a double mastectomy Thursday the 26th.
I'm feeling dizzy, and my arm where the sentinel was removed is very weak. I stopped taken narcotics yesterday. I tremble a little too. Has anyone experienced this??
0 -
Hi Ladies- This board gets overwhelming at times so I try and pop on once in a while to catch up. I have BMX with TE's on Tuesday this week, and just trying to get stuff done before I can't. My back is trying to go out, so now nursing that and know it's not going to help when i need to get up! Poor core muscles! I got clearance from my dr after dealing with a blood clot- so off we go.
One question that I'm not clear on and know it can be diff for everyone- how much time after BMX before you're allowed to put your arms above your head??
Thanks!

Hi ,
I can only say I was dizzy for a couple of days after surgery on the 26th as well and for a few days after lumpectomy on the 4th. It was from the anesthesia breaking down and clearing out of my system. I was told to drink lots of water to help it along.I did not take any narcotics so it may be that along with the after effects of anesthesia.
Fell better soon . Not sure on the arm raising ?
💗👍❤
