First bike ride since brain surgery started out well until I tried to get off, caught my foot on the bar and went down on the road, ugh. Waiting for the stinging pain in my elbow to calm down before heading to the river. Before & after pic below.

    Hello all.

Mara- You and your walks. You are an inspiration. Today I am inside for sure -- heat advisory, heat index up to 110. Treadmill yesterday till I had a phone call. Could not talk while walking. Maybe treadmill today.

Mel- So a quiet week for you. Message me anytime. I love the masks you sent.

    Welcome MelissaDallas.

    Tanya- Big cat !!!

Mae- Ouch. Be careful. Glad you are enjoying yourself till this little mishap.

I did Zoom D&D game on Saturday night-- 2nd night of gaming. Learning still. Lots of rules and never did this before.

Not much scheduled for this week.

    Hope all are doing ok.

Ouch, Mae! And where is your helmet? Sorry, this nagging mom can't help it .... 🙃

Hey, look what my husband made for me. I've been going on and on about getting a fountain on the deck and showed him some pictures and he said, I can make that! I'm just going to be adding different plants around it. The fountain is 1/2 of an old wine barrel.

moth- Pretty. I love to hear the water. I do not live near water or have a fountain. But I would like that.

Candy, you can get little indoor fountains too now. I'm spoiled - we have a creek and it has a little waterfall but I can't hear it from the bedroom, esp in summer when it's dryer, so I wanted more water sounds closer to the house. But I'm picky about fountain sounds: some to me just sound like a boy peeing 😂

Lol Moth, I was your typical genx latchkey kid, we didn’t have helmets then and I just never gave it a thought. I blame my darn big feet for this accident and my elbows and knees have been through worse. I am strict on seatbelts though, my car doesn’t move without them and I am using SPF 50 sunscreen, for all the moms here 😁

Mel and Tanya, thanks for the kind words. I just like to really challenge myself. It is more mental than physical.

Mel look at all those masks. You are fast and talented and am glad you are able to help all these people.

I stayed true to my word, no more walking. A lot of sitting and watching star wars and young and the restless. I also made somemore washing soda for the laundry out of my baking soda. So easy to do, enjoyable too.

moth- I have seen those indoor, tabletop fountains. My mom had one years ago. But, I do not think my cat would leave one alone. He loves water and he would probably play in it or knock it off a table. Yeah, some do sound like a boy peeing. LOL.

    Hello all,

Had my first therapy appt. It went well. I didn’t cry. It helped me focus on what I want to work on.Anxiety. Racing thoughts at bedtime and I think I may be getting irritable too. I definitely would like to improve these things. We’ll see how it goes.

Mel your mask making abilities are amazing. I know how you love crafts so I expected no less!

Mae you’re really living it up! What a trooper you are. Seriously proud of you brushing yourself off and climbing back on that bike 🚲.

Candy thanks for noticing my kitty. He’s 10 months old-a rescue of sorts. I think he’s going to be large. What age are cats considered full grown?

Mara good job staying in today. You always stay so busy even inside.

Moth helmets, knee pads. Elbow and shin pads. I grew up riding bare skinned. Many sliding scrapes. I remember having knee scabs. Like it was the summer tattoo. Love the barrel fountain.

We love to eat well while camping, here's a pic of today's (after swimming snacks)

    Left: Machego on thin trisket

    Middle: Brie on veggie cracker

Right: Apple slices and baked Brie on a classic cracker topped with an apricot spread.

Oh Tanya, I love the summer tattoo comment, it is so true and image/memory provoking, the phrase hit me like poetry. I’m stealing it.

Tanya- I am glad your therapy session went well. I know I really need to see a therapist to vent all this stuff. But, alas, nothing is free. I made some calls last year, before Covid, to local therapists. With my insurance it would be $35 out of my pocket for each session. So, say weekly sessions, would be $140/month. Cannot afford that. My cancer center (previous center) did not offer therapy. So it would be a local therapist that deals with all mental issues, not just cancer. I have not looked into the new cancer center yet to see what options they have, if any.

My cat is 10 years old. I got him as a rescue when he was 3 months old. Kittens are categorized as up to 1yr old. Cats are age 1-8. Seniors--over 8 years old. I have had cats my whole life. I have had some that lived to be 20 years old. I am a "cat lady".

Mae- Looks yummy. I love triskets.

Tanya, I’m glad your appointment went well. It is ok to cry if need be; I know you know that. Candy, for a couple years I saw a therapist just once a month, because that is what I could afford. It helped me a lot! It does not have to be weekly. But do see what your new center has to offer. I currently get to talk to a cancer center therapist by phone once a week, no charge to me. I guess she is paid by a grant or donations to the cancer center? Idk.

Mae, when my kid rode horses I let it be known that you so much as sit on a horse without wearing your helmet, your riding days are over. Good rider, calm horse, I don’t care; freak accidents happen. Now you, Mae, with your million-dollar brain (add up your hospital receipts), need to protect your investment!

Moth, your tub fountain is lovely, and so is your DH for making it for you. Once we had a tub water garden, a small perfectly balanced ecosystem with a yellow water lily, two other plants, and some mosquito fish. Maybe some day we will make another. (The other one did not survive a move as the tub was plastic and cracked.)

Candy, So cool you are learning to play DnD. My kid likes it. I would like to try it.

    Hi, Mel and all,

Just saw my name in Mel's post and thought I better chime in.

Have been reading, just not posting much. Trying to get more exercise in (walking and going to my community pool -- open by reservations -- before it close in September), trying to eat healthier, trying out some free meditation classes and other mind/body classes offered by an organization in my area for cancer patients (all on Zoom right now).

    Take care, everyone!

Mel, thanks for the shout out. I'm well, but darn it, I lost my Fitbit at the grocery store I'm guessing. Got everything put away, and after sitting down, noticed my naked wrist. Oh well,, it's always something and not just with cancer. I look forward to masks, Mel, but whenever you get around to it is fine with me. I'm easy and really appreciate it!

    Mel,

I received my beautiful masks yesterday. I am very impressed. And you are very generous. I did not expect to receive so many. Thank you, my friend. You are so very precious!

I could barely stand up yesterday. I was so dizzy. I am also nauseous, so I took the Zofran that my MO prescribed. So glad I had it filled. I’m not quite as dizzy this morning, so hoping this is just my body getting used to the new drug.

Moth, are you also on Gemzar? If yes, did you go through an adjustment period?

Tanya, I saw a therapist for a long time when I lived in PA. I miss going. It is so good to be able to talk through our everyday struggles with someone. Good stuff.

Mae, you amaze me as usual. Ain’t nothing going to keep you down. Seriously, you inspire me. Not sure if I could get on a bike right now, but once I feel better, I’m going to try it again! Continue to enjoy your time away.

    Love to all.

Shetland and others- As I was reading Shetland's post, about her wanting to try D&D, I had a thought. Wonder if we could get a group of us together-- a virtual Mel's Living Room. Meet per Zoom and talk, play games, etc. A spin off of BCO. I cannot do Dungeons and Dragons--- must be lead by a "Dungeon Master" and I do not know enough to lead a group. But would be nice to put faces with screen names and be able to find a game to get involved in and off our cancer worries. Just a thought.

booboo, sorry you're feeling dizzy and weak. Ugh, hate that feeling. I haven't uses gemzar yet. If your symptoms don't go away get it seen to. It might be unrelated. Ear infection. Or bppv - benign positional vertigo. I had that a few years ago . Physio can fix it. They need to move the little stones inside your ear canal which tell you which way is up back into proper position.

candy, I'd be up for a zoom, just social or board games - if I have it. With enough warning I can get any game; ds played lots of board games precovid and I don't mind buying new ones. Can't remember tho what zoom limits were on participants and duration.

Bliss~Your package was mailed this morning. So I believe it said Thursday or Friday was delivery day. So be on the look out!!

Mara~ yours should be there any time now. Snail mail. Takes forever sometimes. I guess the different country slows it down even further.

Thanks Mel. Looking forward to it as well.

Candy, that would be a great way to get different people together for sure. Good thinking

Bliss, I'm sorry about your lost Fitbit. Do you have an iPhone with the Bluetooth scanner app? I had a friend who located his at Home Depot using the app, and we were able to find my sister's Fitbit when she lost it at a resort a few years ago. I hope you get it back. I feel lost without mine! :)

Its..so..hot. Ugh - Mara, ton of respect for you for all your walking in this level of heat and humidity. Day five or six of 95F+ and I think I am going insane. Can't seem to concentrate on anything, can't sleep, can't cool off, and the air quality and allergens are low/high so have a little bit of a cough/throat tickle and sneezing a lot. This really sucks. When I asked for summer I meant like low 80s for a few days, cooling off at night! Starts to break Thursday, can't wait, although the clouds, lack of wind, the evening light, and current sinus headache suggest good potential for thunderstorm tonight.

Chased an enormous red fox out of our garden this morning after it started barking at the cats. Supposedly they don't attack cats but I really don't trust them. Or rather I don't trust our little lady to not rip it to shreds and then get stuck with a dead fox to dispose. There must be a den a few streets over by the rail tracks, and it was trash day so I imagine that was part of it. This urban wildlife experience is getting a bit out of hand.

Hello to all, and I hope the midwest ladies are ok after that storm system last night!

Sondra, prior to this year, I did not walk in the heat. I just forced the issue for myself by starting small walks and they gradually grew longer. I hate the heat but I can withstand it. Plus I have the benefit of removing my wig and clothes when I get home. Sit in front of a fan, I am good to go. Admittedly I look like a lobster sometimes. It is more of a struggle when it feels over 100, 80's or 90's are fairly easy to deal with

I'm a metric gal! I always have to convert to figure out how hot those temps are. We're having lovely mid 20s this morning. I think yesterday the garden was 28 in late afternoon - for me that's still pleasant, esp if there's a breeze.

I walked with my Olive this morning and now it's time for some early lunch.

  • candy-678

Well I balanced my checkbook, made a few calls, and walked 20 minutes on treadmill today. Not the level of busy I used to do in my old pre cancer life, but my new normal of cancer and Covid life.

Sondra- We did have storms roll thru last night. No problem here, but some power lines down next town over. That would be bad in this heat not to have AC.

So moth 28 degrees would equal 82 degrees here? That is what I found by looking it up.

  • moth
    moth Member Posts: 3,293

yes, 28 is ~82! Funny how the numbers are just reversed :)
