JFL, I was jyst wondering why you switched from Dr. MENDEZ to Dr. Yang. My next VIC consultation will be with her. Was there a problem. Before I had Dr. Dimillia.

This is something we all know but watch the video anyway, it might apply to a lot of people on here. I've been in chronic stress most of my adult life. So to be able to turn off the fight or fight response would be a very positive for me. Pluss Joe said that the reason FZ works is I/2 the wormer and 50% positivity.

    thank you snooky

I enjoyed watching it and forwarded it to a friend as well.

It is good to be reminded of it as it is easy to become disheartened and down again

snooky that was so uplifting...will play it again soon...but I've already replaced the mantra received many years ago during a TM ceremony with one more appropriate to my health...

    Thanks!

Ps. I watched it again and I find myself in a conundrum...what my body needs, what every ounce of myself would love to do in order to survive, would be to stop all treatments and move back to Italy, like that Greek guy did...exit the madhouse...but it’s easier said than done.

    Snooky,

I agree. Terrific video. I just signed up for her emails. This is a bright, inspirational doc and what she talks about makes a ton of sense to me. When I met the naturopathic doc after my latest diagnosis, one of the first questions she asked me (relating to the time during which my TMs were going up and nothing was showing up on my scans) was: what has gone on with you in your life during this time period? I knew what had gone on, but I didn't put two and two together. It was a revelation to me to think in those terms. So thank you very much for posting!

    Snooky,

I saw that when Pat posted it yesterday. It's incredibly encouraging. But with the length of time it takes for these darn clinical trials, that's the discouraging part.

Frisky: I wish you could move back to Italy but you happen to live in the very place my heart is and my body wants to be: Union Square, Manhattan. I got priced out following a divorce and have missed NYC ever since.

  • Frisky
    Frisky Member Posts: 1,686

Luce, I hope you can return to Union Square one day....I don't know when you left, but things are radically changing all over Manhattan and around here in particular

....they have been transforming all those HUGE office buildings into condos that remain mostly empty because New Yorkers can't afford them, and the people laundering money that purchase them prefer to live in other places. The high line neighborhood is another prime example.

The numerous empty storefronts remain unoccupied for decades. Most restaurants are now chains that serve shitty foods...the mom and pop are going out of business because they can't afford to renew the rents.

The amount of noise and pollution from Mac trucks removing tons of debris from those commercial buildings is constant, including during the night because commercial traffic is now legal on fifth ave....traffic on 14 street is now so restricted, they are rerouting buses and emergency vehicles down 16 street ( my street)

it's no longer a quaint residential area, but a madhouse...although the farmers market and the Washington Square area continue to provide a welcome respite from all those activities.

    Why Manhattan's skyscrapers are empty
Approximately half of the luxury-condo units that have come onto the market in the past five years are still unsold.

Hello to all my good people here. I started FZ back May, got sick with e coli (if most of you remember). I was sick for 2 months and did not take the FZ. I started back in August. Did 4+ months. My last bone scan showed more new areas and my TM's have been rising terribly. I was switched from 5 years on Xeloda to Verzinio, finished a month and my labs show decrease in TM's, one by almost 150 and the other by almost 100. I've not done the FZ in more than a month and really considering quitting it. I think it's the Verzinio that brought my TM's down. I will still read here, especially since friendships are formed and I just can't abandon those.

Has anyone really seen improvement from the FZ?

  • husband11
    husband11 Member Posts: 1,287

    That is great news Goldie.

It's so hard to evaluate the FZ because its impossible to know what is working if you see improvement. My wife isn't taking it anymore, but has instead opted for COC protocol. And that she had to take two weeks off, as well as off her ibrance, because she was feeling really sick from what we assume is the flu. She is better now, and back on both. Her blood values and tumor markers improved, but her red blood cells and hemoglobin tanked once again. She might need another transfusion. We need to figure out the cause.

    Frisky Member Posts: 1,686

Husband, I wish you and your wife the best of luck in figuring out what's causing the low hemoglobin.

I have a similar problem, but I am on my third chemo. Chemo is the cause, no doubts. Tonight I had a talk with my mo about how to stop the hemoglobin levels from dropping further...she said that when they get low enough they'll give me a blood transfusion. I'll not be waiting for that to happen.

I will, however, study the problem and try to resolve it with special diets rich in iron and B complex. eating seaweeds has been helping tremendously my energy levels, but I get tired again the next day.

Goldie, I have suspended taking the FZ for couple months. I am on a very low methionine vegan diet. I believe the reason for Joe's success was due to the fast he underwent, when he lost 100 pounds. It was the starvation of the cancer cells that allowed the FZ to kill them...just my theory, I have nothing to lose...I like my vegan diet.

So happy to hear that Verzenio is working for you.

Husband, praying for you and your wife and for things to get better. Like we always say..."it's a crap shoot".

Frisky, the same for you and all of us! As for the fasting, not all of us can do that since we have to eat with the meds we're on. Which was the case when I was on Xeloda, not the case with Verzinio. But not sure I could fast for very long!

I may pick up again with the FZ in the future, but I'm almost afraid to!

    Huggles and much love!

Y'all probably know all of this, if so, just skip on by!

Foods to help with hemoglobin. I also see where folic acid helps, my husband takes that for his RA, so I may have to start that too. To raise hemoglobin levels, increase intake of iron-rich foods like greens, seafood, and meat; vitamin C foods like citrus fruit to aid iron absorption; and vitamin B6 foods like tuna, salmon, and chickpeas to avoid deficiency-related anemia.

    1.Dried tomatoes
Tomatoes are rich in vitamin C and iron and they are a healthy addition to every diet. They're delicious and can be added to almost any meal.

    2.Raisins
Raisins are another excellent source of iron and can improve the taste of your oatmeal, yogurt or cereal. But mind the amount of raisins you consume if you're a diabetic because they're known to increase the glucose levels.

    3.Persimmons
Persimmons are abundant in vitamin C and iron and can significantly increase your haemoglobin levels. They can be consumed raw and you can add them to salads and smoothies.

    4.Dried apricots
Dried apricots are also abundant in vitamin C and contain plenty of fiber, which is effective against constipation.

    5.Mulberries
Mulberries are highly underrated but are the richest berries in iron. Aside from iron, they're also abundant in protein that also plays a vital role in increasing the haemoglobin in your blood.

    6.Dates
Dates are super healthy and sweet, and can increase your iron levels and reduce the cravings. They are delicious and can be easily incorporated in your fruit salad or cereals for breakfast.

    7.Pomegranates
Pomegranates are abundant in vitamin C, which increases iron's bioavailability and boost the haemoglobin production. They can be eaten fresh or make pomegranate juice, it's healthy and super refreshing.

    8.Currants
Currants have a similar nutritional profile to blueberries so you can use them in the same meals, pancakes, pastries and smoothies.

    9.Watermelon
Watermelons are full of water and will hydrate your body and refresh it. They're also known to increase the haemoglobin levels.

    10.Prunes
These dried fruits are the best natural remedy against constipation. They're also an excellent source of iron.

    11.Liver
It's not just fruits that are loaded with iron, there are other food sources of iron as well. Livers for example, are abundant in protein, fiber, vitamins and many minerals including iron. But they can increase your cholesterol levels so consume them in moderation.

    12.Oysters
Oysters are super healthy and an excellent source of iron as well as zinc and vitamin B12. If you're not a fan of oysters, you can opt for tuna or salmon, but their iron levels are not as high.

    13.Chickpeas
Chickpeas are an excellent source of iron and protein and are especially good for vegetarians, as they lack these nutrients in other food sources.

    14.Fortified cereals
Cereals are a great way to start the day so why don't you supercharge your haemoglobin levels by buying iron fortified cereals instead of the regular ones.

    15.Pumpkin seeds
Pumpkin seeds are abundant in iron and are a healthy snack option, so you can enjoy a handful of these little seeds and improve your haemoglobin levels as well.

    16.Soybeans
Just half a cup of soybeans contains more than 4mg of iron and plenty of amino acids, vitamins, proteins and fiber.

    17.Beans
Beans are another excellent choice if you want to increase your haemoglobin levels, They can be easily combined with kale, broccoli, bell peppers and cauliflowers as they're all abundant in vitamin C.

    18.Lentils
Lentils are not just a good source of iron but also contain plenty of fiber, which gives them the ability to reduce bad cholesterol levels and protect your cardiovascular health.

    19.Spinach
Well, this list wouldn't be complete without spinach. It's the most popular source of iron and is super delicious as well. It's best if consumed lightly cooked.

    20.Sesame seeds
Sesame seeds are rich in copper, vitamin E, phosphorus zinc and iron as well. They're delicious and can easily be added to your everyday meals.

thank you Goldie...according to my mo, my iron levels are apparently perfect...it's the chemo that prevents the making of healthy blood cells in the bones...will increase the iron rich foods but the solution requires additional insights and solutions...I would not be alive today if I hadn't resolved all the serious medical problems the various treatments have been creating for the last 5 years...I hope to continue to be guided to the right answers. Your comprehensive list will help me concoct some great recipes...

PS Frisky, I agree the fasting-- whether from caloric restriction or methionine, there is stress on the cancer-- was probably a big part of it. There needs to be a full-court press of "starve" strategies. AND, simultaneously, other proactive practices, to build overall health and boost immune system. Caloric restriction/intermittent fasting is an immune booster. Cold room pitch black for sleep is a hormone regulator, promotes "brown" fat which is metabolically active

    Hi All,

I follow this thread but have not been a contributor to date.

Goldie, one caveat to your list - no pomegranate while on Verzenio unfortunately. I love them and had two go to waste that I purchased just before starting. Apparently pomegranate has the same effect as grapefruit. Bummer...

SS thank you. I did know that, but it never hurts to let someone know in case they don't know. We are here to help one another, right? It is a bummer as I have a great salad recipe with Pomegranate, and it's so yummy! Guess I could make it w/o the pom!
