Petite1 - That beach sounds wonderful. I hope you have a great trip. I don't understand people's attitude towards the police. Yes, there are bad cops, just like there are bad preachers, bad businessmen, bad politicians, etc. Friends of ours, he is a sheriff and a great guy both on and off the job. But this summer, he took the front pro-police license plate off his wife's car so she wouldn't be targeted. We live in a mostly rural/suburban area. It's crazy to me.

Kamboka - I'm sorry your Thanksgiving plans are changing too. Our state just changed the rules that anyone coming in has to get a negative COVID test within 72 hours or quarantine for 14 days. There goes a lot of people's Thanksgiving plans. Also anyone that comes into your home but does not live there, is supposed to wear a mask at all times. :( Crazy. I hope you can find a mattress that works for you. We want to buy a good used sofa off of Facebook/Craigslist to use for our remodeled basement. That's what scares me about buying used...The unknown of what happened on that sofa. Pets, children, etc.

Kamboka, he was a failure at undercover. LOL I was thinking of the smelly mattress - gross. I would probably use an entire can of lysol. Your plans sound so nice. Makes me think of the good old, never to return, days. Enjoy the time!

Looks like someone want to buy my bedroom set and I'm giving her the mattress. My new one is coming tomorrow.

mocame: I bought my couch from Salvation army but got a leather one so I could clean it. Sometimes, there are really nice and clean mattresses and couches. The other day, I went with this mattress because he was only charging $25 to deliver. My regular guy is $65. Yes, I'm hearing that some States are more strict with these rules. The FL Governor is not so strict so hopefully we don't go backwards. I was just reading an article today about the ineffectiveness of masks. I was telling my painter today that my chances of getting cancer again and dying are probably much greater than my getting COVID and dying. So, I'll take precautions but live my life!

petite1: Today was the coldest day since I've been here. It would not have been so back except for all the wind. I have some poinsettia topiary trees outside. They kept falling over so I had to move them to another place. I had to put on some socks today. Now, I'm rethinking putting in ceramic tile in the living room. Might be too cold.

Kamboka, Some people think Jax is part of Georgia instead of Florida. LOL The last day I was living there was in June and it dropped to 32.

Today, I have labs and visit with MO.

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

petite1: How did the MO visit go? Are the labs okay?

Glad to say that my next door neighbor, who is a commander of a navy ship, came over to help me change out my beds. My stinky mattress is outside and the new one on the 'new' bed. I think it's firm and I might like it. I think I have 90 days for return.

My sister has been on and off about going to TN to pick up my mom and bring her here for the holiday. I think today she finally decided she was going to stick with that plan. She is so very scared of COVID. To make her feel better, I'm going to get tested on Sunday before they get here with my mom on Monday. I think I mentioned that my mom's 82nd birthday will be Thanksgiving day.

The painter will finish tomorrow. My shower door is still not here and the man said it might be ready for Monday installation. I surely hope so.

Kamboka, that would be nice if it is all finished by Thanksgiving. Everything went well and I don't go back until Feb. We are not sure about going away for Thanksgiving and our Anniversary. We will do something. but I am not sure what. With the increase of COVID, it's scary. We went for so long not even knowing anyone, who knows someone that had it, now it is hitting closer to home. Neighbors have it, Jim's former coworker is in ICU with it. I just don't know....

My sister is coming tonight so I got to get used to the mask at home. On Sunday, I have my test so maybe she won't be so paranoid if I don't wear it all the time next week. I still don't have a lick of food in this house. I am really dreading the grocery store only because I have so much pain walking. My sister said to take that riding cart. I laughed and said that I'd have a wreck so quick, it wouldn't be pretty.

I listed my stinky mattress for 'free' on Facebook. Within 30 minutes I had a taker. I also cleared out the bedroom set that I needed out of my master and a surround sound system that the previous owner left. I can almost see my garage now. Heading to get COVID testing in the morning. I had planned to go to grocery story today but instead went to Michael's. After that, my back and leg were hurting so bad, I came home. I need to get to the store!

Kamboka - Do you have any grocery stores that do pickup or delivery? I've been doing it right now to limit my exposure. It saves time and limits the amount of people I'm in contact with and limits the stuff I handle in a store that someone else might've handled. I hope your test comes back negative.

Petite1 - I'm glad everything came back okay. I hope you can get away a little bit.

It's been so busy. I've been busy at work up until the end of last week. I'm trying to get stuff done ahead of my time off for surgery. My daughter came home on Friday and I had a mini Thanksgiving meal on Saturday with just the 4 of us. It was the food that was meant to be eaten at my family's Thanksgiving that got canceled. Now I'm gearing up for our Thanksgiving Day meal which was supposed to be my husband's family gathering that got canceled. We are also working hard to finish our basement that has been a project for almost 2 years. But we figured out that we now need to dig out for an outside entrance/steps into the basement so that is our next priority. Also trying to get the last of my Christmas presents, my daughter's birthday presents and charity gifts bought in the next week.

I'm frustrated because I know very little about what I'm going to experience with this surgery. I can't find people that have gone through it like I have to and my PS office didn't get back to me about some of my questions. Now my FMLA paperwork is late because my HR person forgot to send it and it's been almost a week and haven't received it in the mail as required. I need to get that filled out and sent back too within the next week and my PS office said they need 7 to 10 days to process it. I need to send questions to my PS again and hope they answer this time or I'm going to be making a phone call instead. I have been hearing that it's so busy trying to get a COVID test that people are having to schedule appointments days in advance and my PS hasn't said anything yet.

mocame: Yikes, you are really busy and it's a shame that you are having to think of some of these things now. So many doctor offices just don't get back in a timely manner and they make mistakes. We have to live with it so it doesn't always bother them. Your HR sounds like my folks. My health insurance was supposed to started 10/25 and I still don't have it yet. I wrote the HR lady today and said "where are we with the benefits?". She wrote me back and asked me what did I mean. Really!

Maybe since you are going into this surgery sort of blindly, it might work out for the best. Sometimes what we don't know, doesn't hurt us. :) I remember when I had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, I has 104 temps and body/joint aches like crazy. Since I didn't know at the time what it was or how serious it was, I keep going to work and shopping. The minute I got the diagnosis, I became 'sick'.

I think I mentioned I had to wait in line over and hour on Sunday for my COVID test. A man passed out and I went to help him and was bending over which aggravated my back some more. Maybe now my sister won't freak out so much if I don't have that blasted mask on 24/7.

Try not to over stretch yourself. You need to keep your energy and immune system strong.

Tomorrow I took three hours off work to go to my sisters wedding. I also have my pulmonary appointmnet in the morning. The glass for my shower was not delivered today. He said it did come in but there was a chip and he had to send it back. He thinks it will be here by Wednesday. I have my doubts.

mocame & Kamboka, you both sound so busy. I walked on our little beach today. It was 73 and pleasant. I am not at all sure what I will do Thanksgiving and we are still not certain on a trip. We did get some bad news, that one of Jim's friends ran off the road Friday on his Harley and died today. Leaves behind a wife and some grown kids. I didn't know him very well, but he was one of Jim's buds. We use to ride, but gave that up 10 years ago.

Oh, Petite, I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's friend. So tragic. Your walk on the beach sounds AMAZING and I would love the 73 degrees vs. our high of 48 today. Brr! I would trade my business for that walk on the beach any day!!

Kamboka - You are such a kindhearted person. I like to know everything ahead of time so I can be prepared but I like your take on it. Thank you for helping that gentleman, despite your back. A lot of people wouldn't have done that. I hope your pulmonary appointment went well and that you had a great time at your sister's wedding.

The amount of COVID cases where I live has skyrocketed. Most are not life-threatening, just cold symptoms with the loss of taste/smell but it's concerning to me. I have 2 coworkers on my floor on quarantine due to exposure to a COVID positive person. One of them has started with cold symptoms and a headache so they are waiting for their test results. My daughter found out in the past few days of two people she is normally around that have tested positive. Thankfully, one she hasn't been around for the past couple of weeks and the other she was in the same large room with but she wasn't within 6 feet of them but still concerning. My son's coworker's mother tested positive and now the coworker is in quarantine awaiting to get tested. My son worked with him just yesterday.

After today, I am limiting all unnecessary trips outside of my house, except for work. Between now and when I have to start quarantining on 12/3, I'm only working 4 1/2 days. I hope that is enough to keep it away.

petite1: So sorry to hear about your husband's friend. Life is so short and sweet as we never know when it will be taken away. I think that's why I'm still trying to live my life during COVID. I hear that the next few days will be about 80 for us here. I'm so glad it will be warm so my company can enjoy the nice FL "winter" weather.

mocame: Too bad the cases are rising where you live. In Jax, we've only had about 200-300 new cases a day which is much lower than the southern part of the state. When do you get your pre-surgery COVID test? Just try to stay far away from others and keep washing your hands.

The pulmonary consultant wants me to have a CAT, breathing test, pulse oximetry overnight and another sleep apnea overnight in the hospital. I'm schedule for everything except the sleep apnea test on Monday. They are making me get another COVID test on Sunday before the breathing test. I think this is my sixth test now!

My sister's wedding turned out well. the place was a bakery with a small corner decorated like a chapel. The fellow did a good job with the vows and then did lots of pictures. It only cost $150. I had bought a cake and they took me and my mom out to eat at Ruth's Chris. The prices are very high but the steak was really good and I don't eat steak often. The cake came from that Bundt cake place and was gluten free. It was delicious.

    Happy Thanksgiving

Kamboka - I hope all of your testing goes well on Monday. Six COVID tests! Wow! I only get my first on Thursday. I'm so glad your sister's wedding went well. Sounds like a cute little place. Send those warm temperatures up north, please! 😁 It hasn't been too bad here. It's been in the 50s the past couple of days but 80 sounds a lot better! LOL.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Ours was quiet. I spent the past 3 days in the kitchen making dinners and Christmas cookies. My daughter was supposed to head back to college tomorrow for finals week. Unfortunately she spent a good bit of time with her best friend during Thanksgiving break. Her friend just informed us that she was exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID and my daughter's friend is getting tested on Monday. So that puts my daughter at risk and maybe me. Ugh! I'm so close to this surgery! I asked my daughter to go back to her college apartment tomorrow if she can (if nobody is there) or isolate in her bedroom until her friend gets her results back. She isn't very happy about it but we have a very small house and I don't know what else to do. So frustrating.

Hi, Ladies. I survived Thanksgiving and our Anniversary, but feel pounds coming on my thighs.

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

petite1: Happy Anniversary! Did you get a gift or do anything special?

mocame: Keep the faith. You will not get COVID and you can get your surgery. You've been waiting on this for over a year. Remind me again what date it is scheduled for. (My memory is shot!). Will you stay one or more days in the hospital?

Had my COVID test just a little bit ago. Since it was not self administered, it was not as easy as the one I did a week ago. I have to be at the hospital at 6:55 in the morning. I'm still tired from the holiday. My PCP appointment is the 17th and I can't wait. Maybe she will put 2 and 2 together to help me figure out why I am having such a rough time. So far, the Aromasin has not caused the hot flashes but it might be aggravating the joint and back pain. I really am hoping I don't have to make a decision about have some quality of life (being able to walk) or taking the AI for the remaining years.

Kamboka, hope all went well, yesterday.

petite1: I had to turn the heat on this morning. Used my shawl when I went out but at least the sun is out. I realized that my body is not really cold, just the feet d/t neuropathy. I ordered some heated socks from Amazon today.

They haven't posted my CT scan yet. They said they posted my overnight pulse ox test but it's not there. Maybe tomorrow.

Kamboka - I hope your tests results come back soon. The waiting is the tough part. Isn't there any other drugs to try? My MO made it sound like if one or two things don't work, there are other ones or drugs to make the SEs manageable. My quarantine starts on Thursday and surgery is 12/8.

Petite1 - I always have a hard time not gaining weight over the holidays. I have such a sweet tooth. I'm trying to lose a few pounds but someone brought in my favorite donut to work today...And I gave in...🐷.

I've been working longer days to try and get work done before quarantine. This week I've been starting at 6;30 AM every morning. Unfortunately that means I don't have time to exercise before work. That's not helping me lose the weight. LOL.

Kamboka, My heat is on. 28 at about 7 this morning. Now that the sun is out, should warm up. Too bad they haven't posted, yet. I have several appointments coming up and have not received my new Medicare Advantage card, yet. I tried to get it online, but the website went down. I requested it by phone, but didn't speak to a real person.

mocame, I gave into an apple turnover, yesterday. It was still warm, right from the bakery. YUM

mocame: I think you told me that you can't work from home. Too bad since you could work until the day of surgery. Is it an outpatient or an overnight? I really wish they didn't push everyone out of the hospital so quickly. In the old days, you would stay a few days just to make sure everything was okay.

petite1: I had to go to early morning PT but it felt warmer than the day before. I think it was because the wind wasn't blowing like on Monday.

My tests finally came back. The lung CT showed some mild atelectasis in one upper lobe probably from the radiation. Otherwise, it was normal. However, my overnight pulse oximetry came back bad. It was severe sleep apnea. I stopped breathing 239 times in the study. My O2 got as low as 74%. This is actually about what is was when I had the last study a year ago. The Pulmonology told me when I do the overnight in the hsoptial to tell them I can't tolerate the CPAP machine. He thinks I might do better with BiPap. Insurance will not pay for BiPap unless you can't tolerate CPAP. Good to know.

Kamboka, I hope you get some relief with that and they come through quickly. Not breathing is not an option.

Yikes, I broke a closet door and need someone to put it back on track. My leak under the sink is a broken garbage disposal. The new one will take a week to come in. It's always something. I wish I could get a good night's sleep but that's not going to happen in this lifetime. :)

    petite1 Member Posts: 2,293

mocame, If I recall, this is day 2 of quarantine for you? Is surgery somewhere around the 17th?

Kamboka, home ownership is always something. I tried to clean the irrigation well filter and it got stuck. I think I put in upside down last time I cleaned it. Husband says he will soak it in bleach and at least it should clean it some until next time.

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

mocame: only a few more day to go. I hope you are staying relaxed and enjoying your quarantine time.

petite1: that cleaning sounds like something I would do. The repairman sent me a new ice maker bucket but I can't get it to work. After a few days of trying different things, I took it out and put the old one back in. It didn't work the first day but after some jiggling, I got it to work. I'm gonna stay with the old--until it actually breaks.

My 'play' neice is coming tomorrow and will stay with me for two weeks. I'm hoping she can hlep me do some tasks around the house that I keep putting off. I was hoping the weather would be nicer (in the 70s) but looks like the 60s the entire time.

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

mocame: How's it going? Your surgery is Tuesday, right?

My neice came last night and today we had a full day of going to St. Augustine and picking up a few things that I was buying off Marketplace. We drove back up A1A so she could see the ocean. We stopped at Mickler's beach and walked in the water. It was her first time to touch the Atlantic!

  • petite1

Kamboka, That sounds like a fun time. We got the filter out, cleaned and put back together. It works. Now I can water the plants.

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

petite1: I'm still waiting on the garbage disposal to come in.

mocame: You are in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow as you go through surgery. Can't wait to hear from you in a few days and hope that you will have a smooth and painless recovery.
