Karen: I'm really glad you're getting foot surgery. And especially happy that you will take a month off to heal and take care of yourself. Hope your sleep improves with the restart of the cpap. So sorry to read your friend's young daughter. May she have strength for what is in front of her.
Ruth: Hard to believe it's been 12 years. Something for new retirees to look forward to joining if they want to.
Had my dental cleaning this morning. My dentist of 35 years retired August 1st. I didn't know he was going to retire and never received his letter notifying his patients. It was quite a shock considering I saw him the last week in July when he put in my implant. He never mentioned it. The new dentist is a local person and a recent graduate from UNC Chapel Hill dental school. I feel very lucky but may have to change bc of my insurance which just this year only started paying for half the bill (instead of the full bill no matter who the dentist is) for out of network dentist up to $1400 (or it might be $1200, I can't remember) a year. Wasn't a problem this year with the cost of the implant as I definitely have maxed out of the upper cap. Just hoping my teeth don't start acting up again and needing replacement!
Walked this afternoon.

Wonder, when my long term dentist retired, she didn't tell her staff till the day before she left or patients. She said she couldn't tell the deal was signed sealed and delivered. It annoyed me, but the dentist she sold the practice to is great.

Karen, after you teach for 30 years in North Dakota, they give you a lifetime certificate, so I can never get out! 🤣Glad you are getting your bunions taken care off & giving yourself recovery time.
My long time dentist took a young dentist into his practice before he retired. It was cool because when she had her 2 babies, he was the substitute dentist for her. And she is awesome! So smart & on the ball (and has now brought two other young women dentists, who are sisters, into the practice.
I'm going to HIT in a few minutes & will do Dance2fit tonight.

Well we are in a rental until the house is ready next Spring/Summer. Been busy with hanging curtains and getting things arranged a bit.

Thanks for letting me know about your dentists, Karen and Ruth.
m0mmy: That's great that you are in your rental lodging. Now enjoy watching your new home come to reality!
A friend told me a disturbing story about an employee at her work who was fired this week. The person who was fired was hired only 7 days ago. She's 23 and a single mother with 2 children. In those 7 days of working she created 45 tiktoks (yes, 45!) while at work and posted them. She filmed little clips of herself shaking her tail in different areas of her work. Her name badge was visible. My friend showed me some of the tiktoks. This young woman didn't think there was a problem doing this. She had even signed off that she understood the social media policy which addresses things like this. Call me old but damn! I find this so worrisome about the lack of work ethics. Plus, she looked ridiculous doing it!
Walked early this afternoon. We are having cooler weather for a few days and it feels great.

thanks wonder! Even set up my exercise bike and did a workout!

Glad things are moving forward, mommy.
Wonderland, yikes; no common sense at all! Her poor kids!!!
My class got cancelled this morning so I have been washing clothes & watering. I'll take a walk with 'the boys' (DH & Bruno) when they wake up from their snooze on the couch. I am definitely the morning person of the family!

Ruth - if we had lifetime certificate in CO, I would have gotten one in 2017. I got my first license in 1997.
Regular Friday with grocery shopping and cooking and baked cookies. I wanted to make banana nut muffins, but I didn't have muffin tin liners so I'll do that Sunday, Also make a potato kugel for next Friday. We have smoked chicken in the freezer and DH will take care of everything else. But bonus was walking with one of my bff early this morning.
Need to complete the FMLA paperwork on Sunday to take to the doctor on Monday. I'm a little nervous about the surgery, but I need to have it done.
Have a great week-end.

Hi Everyone!
Dh went to his doctor visit for his wellness appointment. The doctor examined his back and agreed with the chiropractor and urgent care doctor that dh has a sprain in his lower back. It will take 6 to 8 weeks to get better. So he doesn't need a mri. Luckily, he was given more Vicodin.
I also saw the doctor today bc I had some small wounds on my arm on the side I had over 30 lymph nodes removed. The wounds/cuts are not healing and I was given a topical antibiotic. I always worry about cellulitis.
After the doctor visits dh and went to get something to eat at a drive up restaurant. You walk up to the window, place your order, then stand around until it's ready. I had already placed my order and was waiting when a nice looking young man who had just placed his order came over to me and said (and I am quoting), "I'm losing it. I don't feel like I want to kill myself, but I don't want to get out of bed, and I haven't eaten in 3 days." He almost started crying. I offered him a sip of my drink and he said no thank-you. He told me his good friend and mother had died and he had some health problems and he has no one to talk to. I gave him a hug. He had stopped drinking and was clean for 51 days. We had a really good mental health facility in town so I asked him to please contact them. He knew about the facility. I told him I know other people you have gone there and the employees really want to help their patients get better. We talked for a few more minutes then my order was ready, I again said please go to the facility, and I left. Felt weird just leaving and I hope he does seek treatment.
Met a friend this morning for a short walk.

Oh my goodness, that was a disturbing conversation, Wonderland. Hopefully your conversation gave him the courage to seek help. I'm glad DH's back is a sprain inside of a slipped disc or something even worse. Glad you got an antibiotic. Yes, we must be extra vigilant about that arm's health!
Karen, yuck on the surgery. But when you know it needs to be done, the sooner the better is what I think
I went on a long walk with a friend and to yoga this morning. My delightful, smart, young yoga teacher is running for the state senate; so I went to a meet & greet for her. In a few minutes, we are off to meet some old friends and go with them to a semi-pro baseball game tonight. Fun!

It was disturbing, Ruth. I really hope the man can get help. That's great that your yoga teaching is running for your state senate. Hope she wins!
Walked this afternoon.

Walked then had a 2 hour zoom meeting.
I'm on the planning committee for an adult Girl Scout weekend retreat. Classes such as crafts, CPR training, Girl Scout licensing, and Girl Scout information are offered. I'm facilitating a paper quilling class. But the main thing I'm involved in is the Saturday night entertainment. I agreed to develop and be the host for the game Let's Make a Deal. Our Council donated some pretty nice items to use as prizes. It's been fun to plan it. We will be playing 3 games directly from the show, The Big Deal of the Day, and Quickie Deals. All just like the show! It's next month and I can't wait.

Your retreat sounds very fun, Wonderland!
I went to Yoga tonight DS has the most prolific raspberry bush I've ever seen. He told me to come pick as many as I wanted, and I did! I made a raspberry cake out of them, which was fabulous!😋

I had my pre-op with the podiatrist is afternoon and he went over the procedure again. For the bunion, he will shave it, then break it, then move it back into place and put in hardware. For the hammer toe, he will take out the tendon, fuse it and put in screws. IV sedation. The procedure is about 60 - 70 minutes. He wrote me an Rx for pain meds and i told him that I really don't like narcotics/pain meds and he said that I'll want them for the first few days!! The boot goes all way to my knee - must wear it for a month. He gave me a small surgical shoe to wear if/when I drive, but not to walk in it. I see him weekly for 2-3 weeks. At week 2 stitches come out and 4 and week 6 xays and possibly PT, depending on how recovery goes.
I'm so glad that i'm taking September off as I do a fair amount of walking in the school and I don't want to walk in the tall boot. The one when I had the stress fracture was much shorter and easier to walk in.
I didn't think I was stressed when I left, but when I went to pick up the tramadol I bought so much junk and have been eating it tonight At least , I have a busy week at work to keep my mind off everything.

Ouch, Karen! You will be glad to have that surgery behind you!
One of our neighbors (of 36 years) died on Sunday (she had been failing, but it still was somewhat unexpected); I brought some cookies & paper products over this morning and visited with the family for awhile. In a few minutes; we are going out to lunch with two couple friends; the wife of one has ALS, the husband of the other has congestive heart failure; so it is all quite depressing……
I went to Zumba & HIT yesterday and will go to Barre & Zumba tonight.

Karen: Your two surgical procedures sound so intense! But keep your eye on the prize - your foot won't hurt anymore once it's healed.
Ruth: Sorry about your neighbor. I'm sure your friends appreciate getting together with them and having a fun conversation.
Worked 30 minutes in the garden. It's hot again with dew points in the lower 70s so I'm taking it easy. Although I sweated enough in the tomato plants. The 8 tomato plants we planted in the spring have produced delicious juicy tomatoes. There are about 50 nice sized tomatoes on the vines that are not ripening. I took off dead leaves and gave them a good watering. Hope that helps bc I want those tomatoes! I like to make soup plus tomato sauce that I freeze.

Been busy organizing the house.

Here's the Wednesday Walking Women eating breakfast at Dairy Queen. DQ just re-opened at a new, improved building & offer breakfast, so we decided to check it out.

Well, we had an interesting night. Strong storms were predicted & about 8pm sirens went off & the TV said there was a tornado on the ground about 30 miles west and heading our way! I zoomed out and dragged all my pots & hanging baskets into the garage, secured lawn furniture, found the flashlight, portable battery charger, transistor radio etc and was ready to head to the basement. Luckily the storm veered north (we still gits lots of wind and rain). This morning, I dragged all the flowers back outside.....lots of work! Dance2fit & Yoga tonight.

Yikes, Ruth! So scary. I always go to the basement during bad storms. Good idea about the portable battery charger. I always bring my purse (credit card, cash, car/house keys), computer, notebook with important information, family jewelry, a change of clothes. tennis shoes. Funny thing, I don't bring water or food! Need to add those and the charger to my mental list. Lmk if you can think of anything else I need to add.
It's too hot for me to walk outside. The dew point is still too high. So I walked in the house. It's supposed to cool down next week.

I should have thought about my purse! I did put Bruno's collar with ID on him, in case he was wandering around in the aftermath of a tornado.

We got some of that storm here in Wisconsin last night. Had a few claps of thunder and a couple of flashes of lightning and rain.
Between brining stuff up from storage and trying to organize the house we are renting, I have only been able to do one workout on my exercise bike.

I went to mat pilates, took a dog walk & a walk by myself. The storm cleared the heat & humidity from the air, so it is actually quite delightful here. (Sorry about that to all who are suffering from miserable conditions!)

Surgery went well on Friday. I was home by 12:30 pm. Friday and yesterday I took the tramadol along with the ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Today I’m skipping the tramadol as the pain is being managed with alternating the acetaminophen and ibuprofen every 3 hours. Still icing the foot. Got a shower this morning. We have a shower chair and I bought a “bag” to go over the bandage as it can’t get wet. It’s frustrating to not be able to walk or us my Cubii. I guess short term inconvenience is worth no long term pain. I sat outside yesterday afternoon and will sit outside this afternoon. I need the fresh air and sun light. The boot is up to my knee!Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. No special plans but we want to see Reagan Maybe on Wednesday for our 47th anniversary and DH will grill steak!0 -
That is quite the boot, Karen! Glad surgery is behind you & I know you'll do whatever the doctors say to do to make sure you have a quick and uneventful recovery.
DS, DIL, one of their friends & ALL of their dogs came over for a picnic yesterday (they are busy tomorrow). So, that was a busy day. I managed to go to yoga before they came over, and on a walk after they left. Today I am cleaning the house & serving leftovers from Saturday.

Karen: Your boot is huge! Thankful that your surgery was successful. Enjoy your time off of work while your foot heals. ❤️
Ruth: A doggy picnic sounds like fun!
m0mmy: Glad you're getting settled into your rental.
Dh decided it was time to call the doctor and tell him his back pain is not improving. He called on Friday. His regular doctor was off so his partner put in an order for an xray and said dh may need a mri. This is what I've been hoping would happen! Had the xray on Friday. No fracture. Bottom line was unspecified back pain. Dh is still in pain and only has 1 more Vicodin so he's calling his doctor tomorrow for recommendations. I hope he can get a mri for further investigation. Dh is mostly fine when he sits but walking is painful. He walks like a little old man and I've never seen him like this.
Ds and his partner came for a short visit yesterday. I had saved a couple of outfits ds wore as a baby so I showed the clothes to them. They took the 3 outfits - one was a white outfit ds wore home from the hospital. He's going to tie dye it and I can't wait to see it!
Walked late this afternoon.

Put the bed frame and foundation together yesterday so we could get the matress off the floor.

Glad DH is going back to the doctor, wonderland. Hopefully he will get the MRI & figure out what is going on. My DIL is having back issues & has been going to a chiropractor with no relief. I WISH that she would see an medical doctor & get an MRI too. So cool that you saved some of DS's baby clothes for the newest member of the family!
We took a dog walk & I took a walk on my own yesterday. We had a friend over for a picnic supper in the backyard (I bought the whole meal at the deli, so no work for me on Labor Day!). I will go to Barre Sculpt & Zumba this evening.
Hope you are healing well, Karen.
Nice to have a real bed to sleep in, mOmmy!

Here are the Wednesday Walking Women. We walked around the paths by the Regional Medical Center & ate breakfast in their beautiful patio area (their hospital food is good & cheap!).

m0mmy: glad you now have a bed frame and you can get the mattress off the floor.
Great picture, Ruth.
I tried to sign on last night but the site was not working. Luckily all is well tonight. Had an overdue haircut today. Dh is waiting on insurance approval for a mri. Ridiculous.
Walked yesterday and today.
