Last night was Rao's with Italian sausage and linguine. And a lovely salad. We grated some romano cheese on the pasta.

Nance, I too hope your spot is "unremarkable."

Eric, your breakfast sounds wonderful. I've made KimChi and it is really easy. I've got some in my fridge (purchased) and will try your breakfast.

I'm finishing up a kielbasa. It is Hillshire Farm and boy, it is/was so salty I doubt I will ever buy it again. It was DHs favorite. I'm trying to figure out what to make but my brain keeps asking me to stop thinking.

My fridge gasket is getting moldy so I may be forced to deal with it. A roofer is coming this afternoon for an estimate. I called 6 or 7 places and only one response. I contacted a local church and free clinic to see if they take clothing. I hate giving it to Goodwill because if I give it away, someone else should get it for free…these two places do that. I just need to get up the emotional oomph to pack up DHs clothes 😭

I had a dental cleaning, so that was human interaction. And I bought more wine…grocery shopping 😊

I'm getting the new temporary dental crown on Monday. As much as it's going to cost, I'm wondering if it should be a real coronation…. :-)

I remember looking for kimchi in the grocery store and couldn't find it, so I asked one of the folks working there. They entered it as two words on their computer terminal and it came up with Kim Chi, the professional name of a drag queen. She had a shocked look on her face and, "We would have that in the store." and she showed me screen. She rephrased it and put fermented and got the right item. 10 years later she would still ask if we wanted Kim <pause> Chi or kimchi and start laughing.

Weird for me…I can eat salt straight from the salt shaker and I like that, but I don't like salty foods.

Can the gasket be cleaned. Borax (laundry stuff) is a great mold killer and for quite awhile, it keeps mold from growing back.

Back to the upgrading the kayak trailer before the afternoon monsoon storms arrive. I'm probably 75% done, not counting the cleanup.

Eric, I am the same…I can eat salt straight, but food that is too salty, no-go. Thanks for the borax tip. I was going to try bleach, but that is messy. The worst of the gasket is the one being thrown out, so that will be good, but I should clean out the grooves. I miss having a man do the icky jobs 😋

I dissolve 1/4 cup of borax in a quart of HOT water and put it into a spray bottle. The water being hot is just to get the borax to quickly dissolve. Spray, and (if needed use an old toothbrush) wipe clean. If refrigerator magnets stick, then lightly spray more borax-water on the surface and let it dry. If the refrigerator magnets don't stick (aluminum), then wipe the borax off with a damp cloth.

Borax is slightly alkaline and that stops mold from growing but it also can (in the case of borax) over time dull aluminum.

Wally - I don't post every day - but you're in my thoughts every day.

Dinner tonight was the last of the ham hock & navy beans and one ear of corn on the cob. Served with more Mad Duck Zinfandel. This is a Total Wine 'winery direct' item, but if you have a Total Wine close by, I highly recommend it.

Unfortunately had to toss some pineapple from a prior fruit bowl, but at least I finished the cantaloupe, honeydew & cherries.

Eric, I love your kimchi story. Crowns cost a king’s ransom. My dentist wanted me to have an old root canal and crown redone but the last time I tried that I lost the tooth. We went with a filling to cover the exposed margin.

Carole, It’s great that the farmers market and neighbors’ veggies allow you to enjoy salads.

Wally, I have bought kimchi but never thought about making it. I hope the gasket cleaning goes well. We were only able to get one roofing quote. The guy had a shady past (including trying to rob a bank while a student at my high school) but had great reviews and good looking jobs. Since we had no choice we hired him; I opened a new bank account just to pay his company. He did a great job but went bankrupt two years later leaving his current customers on the hook.

Minus, I find pineapple overly sweet so I would actually prefer what was left of your fruit bowl.

Dinner tonight was oven fried chicken, potato salad and decent corn on the cob from NY.

Dinner was tilapia I bought at Aldi's, breaded with Louisiana fish fry and pan fried. Also steamed broccoli, which was quite good. The tilapia wasn't the farm-raised catfish that we like, but it was "pretty good" with dh's tartar sauce and affordable. And fish. DH had an ear of corn.

We tried tilapia many years ago and didn't like it, so it has been on the Do Not Cook list until now.

Carole, I didn't buy tilapia for years because it is a bit different from the fish I have always eaten. Because of its price and availability I tried it again about a year ago. I found a good pan fried recipe for it and have found a few other recipes like tilapia Veracruz, a tomato based dish from a town on the eastern coast of Mexico settled by Italian fishermen. The pan fried version is actually my grandson's favorite meal when he visits.

Dinner tonight was tilapia cooked in a skillet with bell peppers, onion, a can of Rotel, cilantro and a bit of powdered chicken bouillon on rice.

I made black cod on a bed of stir fried celery and mushrooms, with garlic, butter and soy sauce. And lots of wine (for the chef).

The roofer only does full replacements, but he said aside from an older roof, he could find nothing wrong. As DH and I suspect, it is a shingle issue when the winds and rain blow a specific way (rare). Last night rained hard and windy…no leak. Sorry if I'm repeating. My sweet friend in WI wants to "fix" my grief. I told her it takes time. How I wish it were fixable and fast.

    Leftover tonight.

Last night's dinner was BLT's with tomato and lettuce from the farmers market, also sour dough loaf bread.

On the To Do list when we get home is to look into getting a new roof. Also, dh's 7-tooth removable bridge needs replacing. Lots of $.

I'm not sure how anyone can fix someone else's grief.

I went running for a bit more than 6 miles today.

Dinner tonight will likely be the spaghetti and the homemade spaghetti sauce (made by Sharon).

I've "de-fatted" the chicken broth. Now to process it in the pressure canner.

Hot one here today so I broke out the crockpot. So tonight is cubed steak in mushroom onion gravy. Sides will be Bob’s mashed potatoes and peas. I’m not much for cream of anything soup but the beefy mushroom makes a nice gravy in the slow cooker.

    A hug for youWally.

I had an unexpectedly nice experience. One of the gun club members brought his wife over to my home. He weed-whacked while I spoke with her…similar situation for her and they were most kind. He was the guy that came out to try and sell some of DHs stuff.

I made shrimp udon spinach riff. Not horrible. Leftovers tomorrow.

Wally, Glad you won’t have the expense of reroofing. The bed of stir fry celery and mushrooms is something I’ll have to try. How nice that the gun club guy came with his weed whacker. Since there are no magic wands we’ll be with you along the way. Hugs.

Carole, Roofs and dental work are two big expenses that are always waiting in the wings. I haven’t had a good salad since cyclospora appeared locally. You will miss the farmers market veggies and bread.

Nance, Soup often makes better gravy than a gravy mix. Stay cool.

Eric, Back in the day I could have swum six miles but never would have been able to run that far.

Dinner tonight was sour cream and onion chicken with mashed potatoes.

it has been raining very hard for probably 30-40 minutes and the lightening (as long as it's not too close) is spectacular.

The dirt roads will be mud bogs and I won't be running until it dries out a bit.

Tonight we met my brother and wife for Thai food. Baked shrimp and glass noodles for me, with an appetizer of Steamed dumplings and a sauvignon blanc wine. Needed wine - DH was hacked recently and its a huge stressor, particularly for him, even though we have (legal) "ducks lined up in a row" should we need that. Ugh.

Tomorrow I am attempting a turkey breast in the crockpot. We'll see how that goes.

Wally I continue to think of you during this time of grief and challenges. Glad for your nice visit.

Dinner was a tasty salad and the leftover pasta. Much enjoyed. And easy.

Tonight will be a turkey dinner prepared by Mary and served on her deck. I purchased the turkey. She and Lyman will be departing in a couple of weeks. Summer is winding down.

Thank you. Reader, I've made t-breast in the crockpot (and I'm not typically a fan). The key is minimal cooking….I will do it again, I enjoyed it so much.

Carole, Enjoy Thanksgiving dinner in August.

Reader, Your Thai meal sounds delicious. Getting hacked is such a pain to deal with. My bank account was hacked even after the bank was supposed to deny online access initiated after my SS #, personal info and work history were released in a state retirement system data breach. The bank covered the loss but now I have to do everything financial in person, on the phone or by mail which is so time consuming. I hope it all works out for your DH.

Dinner tonight was Angus strip steak, potato salad and corn on the cob (still regional.)

Sharon had a music jam today in Heber, AZ and then had to take some stuff to her mom in Pinetop-Lakeside, so she ate at Fire House Subs.

I had a small bag (90 calories) of some sort of popped chips and a peach.

Sunday morning I ran 6 miles and I did it again this morning. It has been raining a lot and the roads finally got saturated enough that it was slippery this morning. My shoes and socks were "a frightful mess" when I finished. :-) The shoes and socks will likely forever more be a red-brown-orange color.

I'm starting another round of sourdough tonight.

We met our Park Rapids friends, Judy and Ron, at A & W in Park Rapids last night for dinner. I had a Coney Dog and fries and a float. DH had a Patty Melt and fries and a strawberry shake. The food was good, and we enjoyed the conversation. A & W was their suggestion. They're very frugal people, and we have gleaned that eating out at nicer restaurants is a little expensive for them. On the occasions that we have met at restaurants pricier than A & W, they usually share a meal.

Judy is a happy woman because she had surgery for uterine cancer this summer and is NED. We met them at the farmers market when they were venders behind us.

    Hard to believe it's September!

H & I shared chicken quesadillas from a local diner for dinner at home.

    Crispy in an air fryer.

    Tasted good.

Eric, Wet red clay works just like dye. Enjoy the sourdough bread. We have been eating a loaf of ciabatta from my former student’s small commercial bakery which tastes just as good as what you get in Rome.

Wally, Food is intertwined with so many memories.

Carole, Glad you had an enjoyable meal out. So often meeting for a meal is really an excuse to spend time together.

Teka, Yum on the chicken quesadillas.

Dinner tonight was Tuscan garlic shrimp on cavatappi.
