Let's make some whole-grain bread. There's a reason they call it the "staff of life".

Good idea Curve (and good word too!)...whole grain bread is good for us. If I ate too many sweets at that feast, I might end up being called a fatso.

But only if you eat too many sweets. If you just have a small one, you won't get fat, and will be able to boast about how well you are meeting your health goals. And we'll all cheer you on!!

OK curve, I will try! How about some whole grain toast this morning?

Sure wahine, that sounds tasty. Let's slice up this nice fresh peach from the Farmer's Market to go with it. That will add a bit of sweetness. I need to look into whether it's possible to use stevia for sweetening in home-canned food, like jam or jelly. Imagine, home-made jam, with zero added sugar. Wouldn't that be nice to have on your whole-grain toast! And maybe next summer I will have some homegrown strawberries to make that jam out of. Tree fruits take longer to start producing, but I can buy a flat of peaches from the market if I want to can them next year.

I have a book out of the library called Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day. I'm thinking of trying the method once my kitchen is ready to use. Basically, you make a real soft dough and keep it in the refrigerator, then break off pieces, add more flour, and bake. The breaking off, adding flour and shaping the loaf is the part that only takes five minutes a day, I guess. The question is, can I make a smaller recipe so I don't end up with so much bread that it goes stale before I can eat it. Or maybe it's possible to put the soft dough in "suspended animation" by freezing it. I've heard you can do that with a sourdough starter. I'm looking forward to adventures in baking while I'm trying out "The Starch Solution". I got weighed at my onc appointment yesterday and discovered I had lost several pounds that I didn't really want to. I guesss I burnt up more calories than usual toting all these boxes around the last few weeks, so if I gain some weight during the "test drive" it won't worry me a bit. I can always go back to my current eating plan, if that happens.

Yummm.....you sure are on a good healthy living plan, Curve! Would love to taste some of that bread if you end up making it. AND if you make the stevia sweetened jam, that would be so good on it, too. I just had a fresh mango and fresh blueberries for breakfast. I love it when the fresh fruit is in season and reasonably priced, too. (We got the large ripe mangos by price-matching at Walmart from Aldi's ad for 49 cents each!).

Don't wait too long to taste the bread. I'm sure curve doesn't use preservatives and it might get stale. I bet it's good fresh from the oven though. I just found some Kerrygold grassfed butter. Yumm

@zogo, you are right, no preservatives in my homemade bread (unless freezing it counts as a preservative). I just hope it is possible to make a small loaf of that five-minute bread, that I can eat up before it gets stale.

It's going to be a while before the kitchen is ready. There are so many little things to decide, and so many to remember. I came this close to not realizing my shower surround will need to have holes made for grab bars, and they can't fabricate it until I pick the bars and the contractor installs the hardware that holds the bars onto the wall. The shower surround will be made from a recycled glass material and I'm pretty sure that trying to drill a hole through it after installation would be very likely to crack it, if not shatter it completely. It's going to be a curbless shower so it is accessible for aging-in-place or possible future disability, but it wouldn't serve that purpose very well without the grab bars! I'm so glad I didn't forget them!

Good morning girls! Your remodeling sound so awesome, curve. Love the glass shower surround, but lots of decisons to make!

We were going to go to Tunica for 3 nights, but my DH (who has a blackjack tournament there) still doesn't feel good, so we cancelled. He is wearing a heart monitor for 2-3 wks, and I am glad of that, as it is showing lots of a-fib episodes. I don't think even he was aware of how often they were happening. Well, lots to do here so I will make good use of our time at home. One thing I was looking forward to though were the amazing scallops at the steak house....I think they have clams on the menu too, but not sure of that. Are you in Vegas, Maddy?

yes, lots and lots of decisisions! I got a few of them done today, and spent some time on houzz looking at grab bars to see what kind I'd like. There are some nifty ones out there--colored grab bars, continuous grab bars that follow the wall, towel rods and soap dishes and toilet roll holders that are also grab bars.....I had an idea myself but I think it would be a custom piece and over my budget, but I bet the same process that's used to make the glass for the shower wall could also make a glass sleeve to put over a standard grab bar so it would match the shower wall. But the coolest of all is that there are grab bars that require no drilling! I don't see how they can possibly clamp onto the wall firmly enough to hold 250 lbs without screwing into a stud, but that's what it says on the website. I think I will have ordinary bars that do screw into the studs installed in the shower enclosure. If I need any other bars, I can decide about them later, because they won't affect the glass shower wall. I can add them at any time.

What color will the glass shower be, Curve? I love greens the most, but neutral colors are nice too like taupe, camel, etc. (Actually I like most colors, but had to find a word!)

Hi ladies, just getting home from Las Vegas (about an hour now). We had no TV, no CABLE, no Internet, no radio, nothing! No kidding! Need to catch up reading but wanted to post since I had a great word? Since Tuesday, up at 6 am, working till midnight, in a word, exhausted. Looking forward to reading later.

No sleep for me! I've been doing laundry and running around, not only parents move but daughter moving back home tonight. Need to pick up the keys to mom and dad's place at 9 and help unpack.

As if that isn't enough I think there's a pipe that LEAKS under our concrete foundation - the carpet is soaking. We went thru this not 2 years ago, I just don't have time to deal with this all! (Won't be back here for a couple days)

OH NOOOOOOO 2ta....why is it that when one thing happens it seems like everything happens? We had a horrid leak that wasn't discovered before it started ruining our wood floor near the entry (was cutoff valve from guest bathroom that we had replaced thinking it MIGHT need it....). Well this was the day before leaving for Australia, so had to get someone out quickly, and they set up all sorts of fans and started ripping up our wood flooring...was drenched thru the subflooring too. Long story short, IF we had not been ready to go out of the country, we could have had someone SAVE our floor and keep it intact. As it turned out, they ripped out SO much, and since our wood floor is about 15+yrs old (but looks new), it took MONTHS to find the right match so ALL the flooring wouldn't have to be ripped out (LR, DR, Foyer, Hall). I think we had to replace about an 8x10 area. You have SO MUCH going on right now, can you speak up for yourself and let everyone know you need some time to rest??? Prolly not, but thought I would throw it out there. AND I know this won't work either, (cause I would do the same things you are doing) but can you ask your parents if the unpacking can wait till you get someone out to look at your leak? GOOD LUCK with everything!!!

Wahine, how awful! Like you said, it's not the problem, it's also the timing of it all! Sounds like you still had a great time and all was finished nicely even though it took a while?

Well, the move is done! The relocation service on this end was awesome! Looks like a miniature version of their home but newer and cleaner! Mom and Dad go out there with me tomorrow. Now, if only I can get a SPARE moment to rest!

Awesome 2ta....so glad the move went so well! Hope everything was delivered and unpacked and they don't find out later that some parts are missing. I had to help the movers unpack my parents stuff last year on my birthday...and it was HOT and took all day. BUT afterwards they were missing a special lamp shade that fit a special asian floor lamp. Would not have been able to replace it, so I called the moving company and they searched everywhere as I was sure it was in one of the boxes they said were "empty" (they had boxes as "fillers" that were put in empty spaces of the pods).  Lo and behold a couple of weeks later my dad realized they movers had not unpacked one of the boxes, and voila there was that lampshade!!! Hoping for more than just a spare moment for you to rest. Must be nice having your DD there too!!

@ wahine, I am so glad that special lampshade turned up after all! My mom will be moving two weeks from this Tuesday. I think I will be making many trips to the Goodwill donation station between then and now! About half of the collectible glass is spoken for, but there is a lot of it left which will probably be put on consignment with some local antique dealers/Ebay sellers. The glass which was chosen by granddaughters is in what used to be my storage unit. My mom will be taking over the lease, and she has a goal of getting everything out within six months after her move. I think I will be making some trips between my new place and Seattle too, to help with that!

And I will have some adventures in house-moving too. Part of my remodel was to put the old kitchen cabinet and sink out into the garage so I can wash grubby hands or rinse off vegetables without tracking mud into the house. But the cabinet was too big for the available space, and had mold growing on concealed areas, so yesterday I went to the Habitat Re-Store on the way back from taking a load of stuff down there, and bought a sink cabinet. It will just barely fit in my car, but I can't see out the back window at all, only in the rear view mirrors. I was scared to go on the freeway like that and didn't know how to get either home or to the new place on surface roads. So I had them take the cabinet back out of the car, and tonight I am going to look up on google how to get from the Re-Store to my new place without going on the freeway. I'll probably stop on the way out of town and buy a new Thomas Guide too, in case I miss a turn in the driving directions from google. I had one, but my car was broken into a few month ago and the thieves even stole my street map! Oh well, it was getting pretty outdated anyway. It didn't cover the county I'm moving into either, so I probably better buy a new map that includes that county as well.

What challenges you have had, Curve! Looks like you are a good sport about everything and try to find a solution, rather than complain about the problem! Hope you can get that sink cabinet home, safely. I like going to the Habitat store, too. Never know what you might find there.

Fortunately the stuff that was in the car when it was burgled was nothing particularly valuable. I had frequently parked it on the street overnight with boxes of stuff I was moving from storage to the new place. It could have been a lot worse, if a different group of boxes had been taken. As it was, most of what the thieves got was stuff I wasn't planning to keep, but hadn't gotten around to taking to the donation station, recycle place etc. The worst of it was two very old computers which might possibly have had data on them that would make identity theft possible, but I put a report in with the credit agencies and my bank to forestall that and it doesn't appear any attempt has been made to get into my bank accounts. I'm pretty sure those computers were old enough that any data would have been for bank accounts that are closed anyway. As for complaining, I have done my share of it, but I'm pretty sure nobody wants to listen to me orate about all the rotten things that have ever been done to me and what a jerk the person is who did each of them.

Time to go look up those driving directions now!

Curve, when you mentioned the thieves breaking into your car a few months ago, I didn't realize they took so much stuff. I hate that, makes you feel so violated knowing someone was in your car, stealing from you. I am glad it mostly was stuff you were going to give away though. Things like that can make someone VERY irate.

Curveball & Wahine, what adventures in moving you have had! About the lamp shade, so glad you found it! With the RATES these companies charge, I would think they are more efficient. I have issues I'm working on now....

Ahh, just can't believe how things work sometime. Is there something in the STARS this week? Found out on my drive home late Friday afternoon going thru the desert my insurance coverage was cancelled at the beginning of the month. WTH? We're on COBRA, paid thru September Nd cancelled? My former employer sure has screwed me over. Still no explanation why this happened, but the new HR manager got it corrected, waiting for confirmation tomorrow.

Not only was my surgery this month, but found out last Monday I need an ultra sound on a very swollen foot. They wanted me to get it done last week on urgent request but I flew out Tuesday. Was supposed to go today but because on the insurance prob, they wouldn't see me. So Wednesday it is.

The other problem was the packers did some fancy math and added hours to the move. Need to address other issues with their performance too. Tomorrow I tackle why my PT authorization is taking so long.

Well, I got the cabinet to my new place all in one piece. Yippee!! I did make one wrong turn but managed to get back on the right road without much of a problem. And I also went to the Re-Store in Olympia and got a countertop to put on it.

However, when I went to the bookstore to buy a new Thomas Guide as I had planned to do, I found out it is no longer being published for this area. I guess so many peoople have either a smartphone or a GPS unit in their car it was no longer profitable to publish the maps on paper. I don't know what I'm going to do. I might buy an older copy, because I don't really trust my sense of direction enough to go completely without a map. Sometimes it seems like life is just one darn thing after another! I wonder if I can get one from Amazon?

But they are making progress on the house. That's a good thing!
