No, no call center. You can send an email though, so I wrote one on behalf of my mom,  saying "why did you make this so hard? It should be easy." The only other way to change the address is by snail mail. Oh well, it's just one of those annoying parts of life that happen to us all. If that's the worst glitch that happens during this move, I won't complain.

Good thing you're both there to help your moms. My dad's trying to get things updated too. My mom has made it a bit difficult as she made a set of keys disappear, the set with the only mailbox key. He PRAYS he will find it soon.

And at least you are a lot closer to your mom now, 2ta! They sure need us a lot. Funny how keys will just stray somewhere. Not sure where my parents put the pool key for the pool in their gated area. They have Happy Hour there on Fridays, but I am not sure if they don't go because they can't hear well, or because they would have to ask someone to let them in. I gave it to them when I closed on this home (I have bought their last 2 properties for them unseen also. like you did with this one 2ta), but now my dad doesn't remember even getting it. At his age he is starting to really go downhill....just the past few months, but he is getting honery(sp?) too. I just think he would rather be in Hawaii, but my mom is so much happier here. Hope that mailbox key shows up!!! When our tenants lose it, we time it so we are there when the mailperson is there, and we have a kit so we can change the lock easily (sold at HomeDepot, etc). Much cheaper than replacing it from the USPS.

Dad called again last night about things getting lost as quickly as he puts them down. He just wishes he could put something down and it STAYS put.

It used to infuriate my dad too. My mom was always a good organizer...had a place for everything. Well now, she "thinks" she has a place for everything, but puts them in places and can't remember where she put them. Always has to have everything neat, so things get tucked away. IF they did the stats on how many things that older people misplace, it would be mind boggling. I hope your dad has a lot of patience!

My dad gets 5 STARS for patience but his patience is wearing thin. He hasn't even had the time to establish a place for everything before mom has moved it. We had to hide some important envelopes and boxes as my brother is coming in this week to help set up the technology items and will need the contents of the packages and envelopes. Hoping mom doesn't find them (they're prett well hidden) and make them disappear.

Wahine, how are you DD and DH doing?

Your poor dad, 2ta...I guess if he rants about it to you, it will help him deal with it. Harder if he takes out his frustration on your mom. I hate it when my dad does that, but thankfully my mom forgets what he says or does. Hope your mom doesn't find the important stuff and put them  "away". Thanks for asking about my Dh and DD (actually both DD's are facing big health issues right now)...DD1 is still waiting to hear the game plan for her cancer, and she just got Shingles a few days ago....sheeesh. And DD2 is seeing the neurologist tomorrow, and we'll see if he advises surgery on her spine. Then DH sees his heart dr tomorrow and will see if he still has to wear the heart monitor any longer...he hates wearing it! Today is the only dr free day this week, as I take my mom to see her dr too, and I have dr visits on the other 2 days.

Happy Monday Girls! Hope it will be a good one for everyone. :)

Where'd y'all go? I hope everyone is well. My mom will be moving next week, and I think I will at least be able to camp out at my place starting next Tuesday or Wednesday. Now that the rubber is about to meet the road I am scared and antsy at the same time. It's hard to believe I have been living with my mom for almost a year and a half!

WOW Curve, your move is almost here. You might feel a little scared and antsy right now, but when you start moving into YOUR own place, you can put on your Big Girl pants and I know you will do fine. (REALLY know you don't need to do that, but it was the quickest word I could think of). Hope everything goes smoothly for you as well as for your mom!

Also hope Jane and Maddy are doing alright too. Everyone must be super busy! I am dealing with everyone's health issues...my DH  and both of my DD's, plus trying to get my mom to take her meds so her bp will be under control. My DH gets the heart monitor off tomorrow (after 2-3 wks) but has to see a Retina Specialist in the morning. We both went to the eye dr today, but she found something of concern, so I am glad he can get it checked out right away. Just seems like so much going on. ALSO, I have been working outside on the decks, and also painted some outside furniture, even though its so HOT, just trying to get stuff done while I can. Time to go to sleep.....I have an early dr appt....sweet dreams to all of you!

Sorry Wahine, don't know what happened, I think I accidentally removed this thread from my Favorites and just catching it. You have had a very busy week, how are all your family members? What are you doing good for yourself? Sometimes when it rains, it pours, huh?

Curveball, wow, your time is finally here! I can understand having mixed feelings.

Went to PS today for 5 week f/u, she's happy with the healing but reminded me to take it easy for another couple months (and no lecture about all I've been doing the past couple of weeks) and there will still be pain as healing continues. We finally got the leak fixed, fans and dehumidifiers out of the house (but I still have a mild headache), walls all torn apart and crap everywhere! So unsettling! I think all the years of DH drinking his PINTS and alcohol abuse are catching up with him, he's been "sick" the last two weeks (been home more than at work), he's probably been fired but won't tell me. Wondering if I'll be homeless in the near future (Plan B was to live with parents and take care of Mom, but not now). Oh, their house went up for sale yesterday, 3 offers came in! Everything's moving so fast! So, you're pretty much all caught up.

I don't know about the move going smoothly, but it's going. It better come off as scheduled because everything is in an uproar with all the packing and sorting and discarding that has been going on the last few weeks. My mom has had about as much household chaos as she can stand! I will be going from chaos to "nothing can be unpacked until the remodeling is finished", so it will be a while before I settle in. It will be at least Wednesday. I forgot the mattress won't have been delivered until then. No camping on Tuesday night. I guess I will have to sleep on the sofa at Mom's new place that night.

Uh-oh, I forgot to preview and now I'm stuck. I've thought about it until my head spins, but haven't been able to come up with a better word than "spins".

@2TA, glad to hear there are offers so quickly on your parents' house. I hope my mom's sells as fast. She wanted to have put it up for sale by the beginning of this month but we just didn't make it, and the other day when she called Goodwill about coming to pick up any remaining furniture etc, they said the 23rd was the earliest she could get on the schedule! Yikes, at that rate it will be September before the house goes on the market. But it has a killer view of the lake and mountains, so I don't think it will sit for too long.

Curveball, I thought of the the word "sting" or "stint" but can't use now. Spending the night shouldn't be too bad if its only for a couple days and is comfortable. Sometimes after falling asleep on an uncomfortable sofa it hurts my SPINE, hoping this isn't the case with you.

Glad you were able to catchup 2ta! Hope Jane checks in too, and updates us. OOPS, thought the move was going smoothly Curve, but then remembered there is NEVER a smooth move. But hope it goes as well as possible. Also hope your mom's homes sell quickly, 2ta and Curve. Glad offers have been coming in, 2ta! My dads home sold the first day, but the realtor had it underpriced at $1.3M....the location, location, location was worth more than that...block from the prettiest almost private beach. Oh well, whats done is done....they didn't ask my opinion before signing with the realtor (who was a close friend of theirs).

Curve, when you start unpacking, hope ALL the silverware shows up too....would hate to have some tines missing....gotta have all the forks, knives, and spoons! (I know, lame word!)

Gotta get ready for my dr appt....glad your fu was good, 2ta. Hate it that your DH is sick, but like you said, those yrs might be catching up with him. ALthough my dad overdrank for yrs, and I can't believe how healthy he is at 96.

hey gals, no, I didn't fall off the face of the planet! I've had my DS home from college with lots of kids around, up to the lake cottage for a few days (good times), and also buying/packing with my DD for college. She leaves in 10 days (boo hoo) I'm getting sad already. So, not much time for checking in. I'll have to go back and read the thread when I have more time.

Take good care and I'll be back eventually!  lol

Thanks for letting us know you are okay! I bet its lovely at the lake cottage, relaxing, watching the water, enjoying each others company. Hope you didn't get any insect bites.

Jane, enjoy as much time and fun as you can pack into the next 10 days. We'll hear about all the great times afterwards.

Wahine, underpriced at $1.3M? That must be some gorgeous home with a wonderful view!

I have spent the last 11 hours searching the internet and job sites looking for a new job. My brain is toast (haven't left at all, so I need a cold drink, something to eat and a potty break)

Eleven hours! 2TA, what a marathon! Did you find any good job leads?

I was on a "job site" today too--I went to see how the remodeling is progressing. The traffic was truly awful! It took more than two hours to get there, which is about twice as long as it takes if there is no slowdown. It's pretty pitiful how much even driving tires me out. It seems like I have no stamina any more, which I guess I ought to expect after more than a year of not even walking to the bus stop and back every day like I did before my dx. (I went down to half time, and telecommuted during surgery/chemo.) I think once I get moved I will have to find one of those "Survive and Thrive" classes and see if I can get some staying power back.

OMG that IS a long time 2ta....hope something good turns up! And Curve, I know, much easier to get rides everywhere, than to walk. But I DO love walking, just gotta get out and do it more, and park further away from store entrances, etc.

2ta, the house was small, but he had also built an entire apartment above his new garage. BUT the main house was originally built as a beach home to spend weekends at. Huge yard though, and like I said, it was LOCATION, location, location, for sure. That area is always in demand. A lot of people (who can afford to) buy the older homes, demolish them, and build mansions. I hope they don't do that with my dad's home....he bought it in 1970 (it was even old then) and ALWAYS kept it in good repair...looked like new, but took a lot of maintenance. Used to sit on the long covered front porch for Happy Hour and wave at everyone that walked/ran/drove by. Its quite a walking/biking area, and several have told him they miss seeing him there.

Curveball, hoping you get to move in soon and really enjoy the new home. You deserve the best!

Wahine, that home sounds so beautiful! Hawaii sounds like such a nice pace of life. DD is busy getting ready for her Hawaiian vacay January. Busy buying bikinis and summer stuff because the stores are bringing in the winter clothes.

Yesterday's job search was disappointing at best. I have so many years working experience but feels like it means nothing today. Just want something I will enjoy doing, working with nice people and will pay a decent wage so I can support myself. Hoping someone DARES to take a chance on me

Hmmmm, 2ta, should we scare someone into seriously looking at your resume?? It sucks that your experience does not seem to matter. Employers also should realize that the older (vs 20 something) employee is more dependable, reliable, and works harder. I mean heck, these younger ones usually don't even know how to make change unless the register tells them exactly how much to give you back. Good for your DD to buy bikinis, etc., now as they should be marked down. Everything in HI is expensive, but even though there is "Hawaiian Time" which means construction workers, etc take forever to do something, it seemed like more of a rat race to me. Esp in Honolulu, and most places on Oahu, the traffic is horrendous. And just try to go Christmas shopping at the malls....soooo crowded. I know your DD and her BF will have a great time though!

Curveball, how many CARTS will it take to move you in? Lets line them up now!

Good idea, we can put all the carts into one big crate....but then it might be too huge and we would need a crane to move it. LOL. Glad you got your internet running again and all plugged in!

More craziness today! But I think we are on track or nearly so to be ready for the Big Move by Tuesday, and Operation Camp In by Wednesday. Only one cart will be used for the move. It's a little four-wheeled thing I am going to use to get some heavy boxes from the car to the elevator, and from the elevator to my mom's apartment.

My only connection to Hawaii is my parents went there for their anniversary, I think it was their 20th or 25th. There are many parts of the country that I have never visited, and Hawaii is one of them.

Mom's moving tomorrow and I think I'm staying at her new place tomorrow night, so I may not be back on until Wednesday or maybe even Thursday. Today was crazy and tomorrow will probably be crazier. And yes, wahine, we made charts, we made lists, we did all sorts of things but chaos overtook us anyway! Oh well, I think it gets better from now on! I got an email from the contractor and my place won't be ready even for camping in, until next week. More chaos!!!
