So happy to hear that someone's is working great!  I'm going through a phase where I've lost it again.  This happens every now and again with the tamoxifen.  Dryness is not the issue at all,.  It's a lack of response, lack of sensation, even with lots of stimulation, it's like something in my brain is turned off and affecting all the nerves that go down to that area.  Even the testosterone gel doesn't seem to be helping, so I've stopped it for now and will start up again in a few weeks.  If this continues indefinitely, I may have to seriously consider taking a break from the tamoxifen.

good for you, lago!  Way to go!  Mine is uber hot as well, so he's not the issue, it's me, and my admittedly bad self image right now and the lack of (hm) "funding" in the moisture arena.

Rose, I am sorry it's not working for you.  While I was on tamoxifen, that did not happen to me at all.  Perhaps it is just stress, or worrying about it too much.  It is very upsetting for sure.

I think all of us get a sort of PTSD, and god knows, our minds are tied to our womanly feelings.

maybe a glass of wine, some lingerie, a date night?  I have not gone there either, so was happy to know at least one of us on here won the prize, lago!

Seriously if you are stressed out and feel like you look like crap (because of new body image) I totally understand. I don't have the stress but I think exercise is really helping. Body image… well yes my body is not something I'm bragging about these days but my husband doesn't seem to have an issue with it.

Exercising really does make you feel better. Gets those endorphin thingies going.

Men are not as picky as you think when they want sex. They see anything that even resembles a boob, vagina or butt and they get all hot and can't turn back. Trust me your guys think you're hot otherwise they wouldn't be seducing you.

We tried over the weekend, but it was so painful, I had to stop. I see my onc next week, and I'll talk to him about it. My gyn had recommended some different products, like Vagifem, that have a little estrogen, so not sure if he'll go for that. It was reallllllly painful this time, not just dry like before. Any ideas??

so true re: men.  It's not my guy, he's after me daily.  'tis me, and the fear of pain, utis, etc.

I am about to give "creme de la Femma" a try.  Anyone hear of that, and have tried it?

anniealso I think I've seen that "creme de la Femma" posted on this forum somewhere. I totally understand about the pain. I had that. I thought I would never be able to have sex again (let alone an orgasm). It took time but the Replens and continuing to try did work for me. It was about 2 months before the pain was completely gone. I'm still shocked that it is. Yes it was that bad for me too.

The "if you don't use it you lose it" is so true. You can gradually get back into by stimulating but not penetrating.  If that means getting a vibrator then get one.

lago, you are a doll, thank you!

I wasn't deemed dilator worthy by OB/GYN but was deemed "man worthy" ;0.  No tears, abrasions, etc.

We are going to keep trying.  I refuse to give up handsome hubby and that comfort in life.

So glad for you, inspirational to those of us who are having issues with this!

Replens was not my cup of tea, stings, burns, UTIs....

Iago: Is Replens OTC? All we've used so far is AstroGlide, and it didn't help. It was very painful. The pain is new, before it was dry, but this is the first time it was so painful we couldn't even try to continue. Maybe I should have a gyn exam? Did you get an exam, or just keep trying until it worked?

LadyBama Replens is OTC. I bought it at Walgreens. I use Astroglide too also purchased at Walgreens. My NP told me to use replens daily for 30 days then switch to 2x a week. I think I did it for 21 days straight then switched ot 2x a week because I was getting a lot of brown discharge. I used it in conjunction with the Astroglide. It just took some time.

I kept trying till it worked. My NP told me in February but she know I had an appointment with my gyno in the spring. She said "good that will give you time to see if it works"

My NP said I could use Rephresh instead of Replens. Maybe if one gives you trouble the other might be better.

Mena, I don't know how old you are but I am 34 years old and newly married.  I am having a hard time because my husband wants to do it but I am sooo over it.  At this point I fake it...not good. Thanks for the venting.

Thanks LAGO! Men are just happy to be on the rec'ing end of the deal.

I am curious as to what sex will be like after the exchange surgery and what will my breast feel like? What does everyone's husband say about the new girls. Are they played w/ like before. Are there limitations? etc...

OK, I've got my Replens. We'll see ... it takes 30 days before you notice a difference?

Fighter: I had my exchange on 3/30. My boobs feel good, soft and natural. My DH is not really into boobs, he's a butt man, so there hasn't been any playing around, but I don't see any reason why there couldn't be.

Good luck LadyinBama. Yes I think it was about 30 days I noticed a difference. It's not all of a sudden. It's gradual but eventually no pain. I use Astroglide too.

on the boobie issue: it's always a good idea to take it very gently with the new girl(s), no rough squeezing, etc.  You don't want swelling!

I had an extremely aggressive breast exam done, and oh my, I hurt for a week and I bruised too.  Tell hubby to take it easy!

Even more so on the new nips.  You may regain some sensation in some of the new girl, but not much, so you'll have to leave the gentle factor up to him.

lago, did you experience stinging with the Replens in the beginning?  I am hopeful of retrying it.

If you did, how long til it quit doing it?

I just came from my annual GYN exam at which I complained of vaginal dryness. I'm not on any chemo so it is just from the dreaded menopause and being "old" although I don't feel old when I actually want to have sex which has definitely been more often since I got my new boobs. She wants me to try some type of bioidentical estrogen cream for the vaginal area which is supposed to be helpful. I'm ER+ so I'm a little Leary of that. She is going to check with my Onc and get back to me. Any thoughts ladies?

anniealso I don't think I remember the Replens causing any stinging but I would check with your onc or gyn if you are having that issue. You don't want to make things worse.

Snowbird as long as she gets the OK from your onc then I wouldn't question this but don't be surprised if you onc says no. If you haven't gone through menopause at the very least at your age I think it's safe to say you are perimenopausal. That's what I was before chemo. I did notice getting a little dryer over the past couple of years and my period was shorter/less heavy. That's peri. This is what could be causing that dryness. If you are on Tamoxifen or Als that can add to this.

Lago, I am definitely in menopause actually have been for a few years now. Blood test confirm. I haven't had a period in over 10 years due to having a thermal ablation done. I also lack one ovary due to removal over 10 years ago. I have never taken any drugs or hormone blockers for treatment. So my GYN says it is naturally occurring vaginal dryness due to menopause (lack of estrogen).

snowbird, taking the ovary out, can exacerabate all of these things, but it's good for us to remember sometimes a cigar, is just a cigar.  By this, I mean that all of these issues can be caused by menopause by itself, not just BC related issues.

My onc said that due to my ER+ status, even tho I have had a complete oopharectomy/hst. if I wanted to use bioidentical hormones (still estrogenic) and/or an estrogen cream or the estring to help with these issues, he would wrestle me to the ground before he let me touch it.

GYNs do not have the final say in this matter over our oncs.  Lago is right, it should rest with them.  It may be that the onc may OK the tiniest amount possible, which when mine did, and only because I was on arimidex, mind you, the GYN then told me that would not help in such a tiny amount.

Rock and a hard place, hence this site to help us all find alternatives.

    good luck!!

lago, I am sorry to hear you got shingles.  I have know four women who have gotten it recently and only one of them was a chemo comrade.  I asked my Doctor about the vaccine and she is testing my titres to see if I already have immunity.  I guess they recommend it if you are 60 + but I am in my 40's.  Still, 2 of my friend were in their 40's too.  I hope you are doing better.  Hopefully that mojo wont be put on hold too long!

They have lowered the age for the vaccine to 50 (as of March this year). I was 49 when I did chemo. I'm not quite 4 months into the 50 I was legal in March but too close to chemo. Also there is a shortage now anyway.

I don't think they will give you the vaccine right after chemo or rads because your immune system has already been compromised. The vaccine has some of the live virus in it.  I don't know this for sure but that's what I've been reading online… that anyone with a compromised immune system (cancer treatment, AIDS, treated with steroids, etc) should not get the vaccine.

I am two years post chemo so I am not sure where that leaves me.  I guess I will wait to see what my blood work shows up.  I hope you are starting to feel better.  You are always so positive and informative. I look forward to your posts.  Sorry you have to go through this.
