Two years out of chemo and still having massive pain. I have tried replens, vagifem to no avail. Talked to my oncologist today and he has referred me to a gynocologist/oncologist that I actually met at an Image Reborn retreat in Park City. This guy knows his stuff and is really up to date on chemo and how it affects us sexually. I remember him telling the group a year ago that he will prescribe a low dosage of testosterone (sp?) to help with libido, etc.
A friend of mine that went through cancer 15 years ago (now 61 years old) said that when her uterus dropped (she never had kids and neither have I) - that it caused her massive pain during intercourse. The surgery was pretty non-invasive and she was better immediately so I am wondering if maybe that might be my problem due to going into menopause early? I also have a tipped uterus so maybe that isn't helping my case either.
I am anxious to see this specialist and see what he has to say.

Jancie,
It sounds like you are looking at everything and trying to get to the bottom of it. I never had kids and I hope that I don't have complications -- but I am really out of it sexually si ce the BC dx. It bums me out cause I don't want to lose everything. Were u able to read all of the pages in this thread? There is so much info and encouragement here. Hugs to you.0 -
Cyborg - I have this thread in my favorite topics! I started reading this thread a year ago but haven't lately until tonight. Read from page 92 to 96 and then went into ADD mode. It was this thread that got me started with the replens and the vagifem - just didn't have any success with it. I put this issue on the back burner as it was too frustrating for me - now I am ready to tackle it head on. And yes....I do have toys - it is finding the privacy to use them, etc. and it is hard to get into it when I have a mouthy 16 year old stepson that gets on my nerves on a daily basis. Oh....to go back to the old days when we could just smack them one time and they would never talk back again - that is all I want - one time only or to be able to wash his mouth out with soap but that is child abuse these days and of course these kids know it. You can't touch them or do anything to them and so they walk all over you. Doesn't help me get in the mood to have sex with my husband if you KWIM.

And no....I don't believe in physical abuse or hitting children or anything like that. My cousin smacked her teenage girl on the mouth the very first time she got disrespectful and talked back to her and that was the very LAST time her girl ever treated her like that again. These days we are expected to take all sorts of verbal abuse from teenagers and do it with a smile on our face.
I guess that is why I am going back on Zoloft and have Lorazepam on hand at all times.

There is a lot of info here. I read the whole dang thing. Maybe u can remember what page u are on if u want to go back. Lago's entries were encouraging to me. Stress doesn't help, does it.

Cyborg - you are right, stress doesn't help either and even though I work hard to eliminate stress out of my life - there are certain things out of my control.0

Just to let you guys know I still don't have any vaginal pain but the shingles pain the last few weeks not so great. Shingles is a real mood killer for both of us. My husband touches my left hip and a freeze up! I'm starting to feel a bit better so I expect to be back into it by the end of the week. At least I hope so.

Jancie: Having raised two teenage stepsons, I feel your pain. I'll never forget when I was about 13, I smarted off at my mother just as we were getting out of the car, and she rared back her hand and said "you do that again, and I'll knock you through that car" ... I didn't smart off anymore, even though she didn't lay a finger on me. The look in her eyes was enough to scare me straight, lol!

Ladyinbama - you see that is the key point to all of this. We were scared to mouth off at the teachers, parents, or anybody with authority. These days the kids laugh at authority because they know that nobody can touch them. I remember going to the middle school and this kid told the principal "FU". I stood there with my mouth open because the principal couldn't do a darn thing about it.
The juvenile justice system is a joke. The kids know how to work it, they know exactly what their consequences are going to be - they are not scared in the least. You literally have to take a knife or gun to someone before they put you in Juvy detention and the kids know this. Instead they get a small fine and community service and this includes smoking pot at school, coming to class drunk, or whatever. It doesn't even matter if it is your 6th or 7th offense - small fine and community service UNLESS you take a knife or gun to someone.

For my sisters in New England - there was an article in yesterday's Boston Globe/Boston.com about how sexual health is ignored with all the "keeping you alive" stuff that goes on with Cancer treatment. The Dana Farber Cancer Institute has a special division for just this problem. See:
My mojo is in the crapper and last time DH and tried to have some fun together I had to stop him from the pain...
Gonna check this out - I think it will be worth the trip into Boston...

Hello, chicas! It has been quite awhile since I've posted in this forum, but if you've read through pages from 2-5 years ago, you'll see my posts more than you would like to! Anyway, I came across this article under piles of data and journals on my desk today and started to read it. Well, I nearly spat out the water I was drinking and thought that I'd offer my mojo sisters the same "pleasure," so here it is:

FitChik I have now made a mess of my eyeliner/mascara after reading that article. Hilarious. Thanks for posting.0

OMG, I had to go change my pants....this is what happens after 50. After I snorted tea thru my nose onto the keyboard, I printed it out, and forwarded it immediately to many friends. Of course, after they read it, I'm not sure they will be my friends, actually.
I have often wondered what would happen if I died suddenly and family had to come and clean out my room and bathroom. All kinds of scarey sounding items, lubes, moisturizers, along with glow in the dark false nipples (the ultimate accessory), fake eyebrows that I bought during chemo ("Nubrow", online, I looked like an alarmed tranny or Lucille Ball) and a bra that I hacked up to fit me, leaving one nip sticking out. Truly intimidating. Worst item and I think, a winner, hands down. An automatic bottom wiper, that you can use one armed. Oh my god.
I had certainly better get my husband to do it! (pun intended) :0.

I sent the story to my hubby. I told him a trip to our local "medical device" store is in order! (In Ala. these things are outlawed except for medical purposes~!)

OMG LadyinBama, outlawed! Here in Chicago we have the Pleasure Chest and boutique g There may be more but those are the only ones I know about.

Yep, it went all the way to the state Supreme Court, but the folks in the state with half a brain found a way around it.

Fitchik - that was too funny!0

Still laughing at that thread.....
Oh ladies, "creme de la femme".........I think this may work!!
If that "come hither" effect from the glow in the dark nipples doesn't do the trick, that is. To have those suckers staying at you from under the sink gives one a real turn in the middle of the night.0 -
Hilarious!

I'm ordering some right now - will let you know how it works:-) My fingers are crossed! OUCH!!!!

i haven't gotten around to Toys in Babeland, although only a few miles from where I live. Probably should do a field trip there. I could be missing out on a whole new world, although I wouldn't say that my mojo is dragging one bit.
But you never know.
Laughing about "medical devices". Now there is a new one.
Living in Seattle, I can only imagine what the Babeland clientele looks like. This is the city of the naked cyclists in the Solstice Parade (something else I haven't done yet either) and has a lively burlesque scene.
Suspect I have only seen the really tame stuff. - Claire

I used the Replens for about a week, then got out of sync because of the tornado and being out of town, etc. Went back on it for about a week, and this morning DH and I were able to get our groove on. Hooray! It hurt just a little, but we took our time and used lots of "gun oil" and it worked. I may still go check out some medical devices just for the heck of it

I just found this thread and I am so glad I did. Having a few problems myself in this department. That article from "curetoday" was so funny and I am still laughing. It is nice to have humor when going through this long journey of before and after cancer.
Thanks girls

FitChik - loved the Debra Jarvis story - someone posted it on another forum a couple of years ago and it made me read her book...She's a hoot isn't she? and an ordained minister too...
Tried "Creme de la Femme" too - didn't burn like the replens did - so there's a bonus right there...
We have a friend that has promised that if my DH and I die together, his job is to come to the house and clean out the toy draw so my daughter doesn't get the surprise of her life!

Ok mojo ladies . . . what's the deal with Replens and parabens? I've read that we ER+ girls should avoid parabens at all costs. I just started using Replens and wahooo, I am comfortable again. Then I look at the label and see a word ending in paraben! I've also heard that the pre-filled applicators don't contain this ingredient. Is this true?
Thanks for the help

There is a lot of controversy regarding parabens in deodorant and if it causes breast cancer. I personally am not going to worry about it (seems like a rumor more than truth) but others do choose to avoid them. My chemo binder and NP were the ones who recommended Replens. These are the same people that will not recommend any kind of even topical hormone to combat dryness for us hormone positive folks… I am confident they would not recommend something if they knew it was a problem. Granted there is no guarantee that in the future they may find it's an issue but right now it doesn't appear to be.
Here is some links for some reliable sources that state there isn't an issue. You may search other sites that say it can be an issue:
Antiperspirants/Deodorants and Breast Cancer: Questions and Answers (National Cancer Institute)
Antiperspirants and Breast Cancer Risk (American Cancer Society)
Parabens (FDA)This explains the issue with why folks think parabens might be a problem in breast cancer:

Fitchik-Oh my gosh, I can't remember the last time I had so much laughter at one time.
That was sooooooooooo hilarious!! I could use an article like that one every day!
I love to laugh but that was a work out on my stomach!!! I like that kind of exercise.

stress has killed my mojo :-( I am a single parent- I do have a great and understanding ex- BF- neither of us has moved on- but I've been job searching for several years to get a BETTER paying job with BETTER health insurance, my 2 young adults/kids need guidance, my house is a mess and my bank account is dwindling. No time to exercise so the extra ten- 15 pounds isn't so great for the body image. Also would like to touch up my reconstruction but can't afford it.
And here's the kicker- so, here in CA we have "medical" marijuana- before I started intensely job searching a year ago and worrying about drug testing I would smoke it (given to me by a friend with a card) on weekends with my BF- fantastic aphrodisiac!! But for the past year I can't do that because of potential drug testing- so I'm not sure if that is why I feel do anti-mojo or if it's just all the other stuff...
I think it's very unfair that if you need medical marijuana for quality of life after surviving cancer that you aren't allowed a pass on drug testing for potential employment- it's almost like a form of discrimination against cancer survivors- I'm an upstanding citizen- not a druggie- it's the only thing that works for my mojo-
OK back to my job apps- thx for listening ;-)
