So how do you keep from strangling your teen? Living with mine is like living with a manic depressive with all the vacillating between "good boy" and his evil, demonic twin. I told him yesterday that if he was the neighbor's kid, I don't think I'd let him play with my kids or even come in my yard, lol. And I was TOTALLY serious...
Not sure about you guys, but my 15 year old knows bloody EVERYTHING! He's always right and nothing is ever his fault. At this rate, he may not make it to 16. I pray for strength to deal with his butt every day...
Edited to add: LuAnn, the movie with the door removal was Freaky Friday - the newer version with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.

Introduce your 15 yo son to my 15 yo daughter. They could obviously rule the world. She was master of the eye roll by the time she was 8. Something about the age...My 17 yo doesn't want to check books out from the library because "I've read all the good ones." Yes, and they haven't published anything new in years.
We can talk to them until we're blue in the face, leave messages written in sharpie on the counter, and the garbage doesn't get taken out, the dishwasher doesn't get emptied, and their laundry is still (clean) in their hampers, until we get home and STAND IN FRONT OF THEM until they do it.
I've spent parent-teacher conferences since they were in pre-school wondering who this angel is of whom they speak.
Bleh.

OK, I know this doesn't actually help in the heat of battle, but that guy who wrote that book ("I Hate You, Get Out of My Life, But First Can You Drive Me and Stacey to the Mall?") says that when they are only total beasts at home or for you, and they appear to be civilized human beings according the teachers, coaches, neighbors, etc., that that means they will eventually grow all the way up, and become normal people, even to you.

I kinda figured that, cmb, but the getting there from here is proving to be quite the challenge. I've decided I should get paid for being a mom. Then again, no one could afford my salary...
Gotta find that book - love the title!

You guys are cracking me up with the kid stuff!!!! LOL!!! When he says, "all the other kids get to FILL IN THE BLANK" I respond, "that's because their parents don't love them" . LMAO!!
Sorry for all the crap going on with everybody.....
I'm going to FL on Friday for Thansgiving, a much needed vacation and to get blood work done. I'll try to get on a computer (not a laptop!!!) while I'm there to check in on everybody. I'm gonna miss you guys!!!
Hugs everybody,
Traci

Felicia...you have a long way to go yet, DH is 62, and he's always right , and nothing is ever his fault !!
And he never picks up his dirty washing, or clean clothes, come to that, everything is on his bedroom floor. Looks just like a teen lives in there !! And smells that way too !
He complains that his jeans and shirts are STILL the wrong way out when they come out the washing machine (if he can't be bothered to turn, then neither will I) When we first met, I just could not believe a grown man could be so untidy, I could NOT live walking thru 6" of assorted clothes, so we were off to a bad start from the start !!! I soon shifted into my own room, otherwise I would have gone completely mad.
He now has his office in his bedroom, this has to be seen to be believed, as he just opens a drawer in his desk, rifles thru it, shoving everything on the floor, and leaves it there. Files ?? All he has are empty files, everything is in the mess under his feet, pulled out as he looks for something. Getting him ready for the accountant is like a war. The last 2 years I have left him to it, and then stood back and waited for the accountant to call, and call, and call again for something that is missing , its actually quite hilarious, as I refuse to take a call for about a month after the books have gone in, and to hear DH making such silly excuses for why this statement is missing, or that piece of paper isn't there, I just laugh my sox off. I also keep 3 sets of clean decent clothes, out of his reach, so that on the rare occasions we do go out, he will be presentable.
Don't think a lot of men ever get past the teen stage, always have a little woman ready to take over the battle from their mothers...not me though. I just tell DH I wasn't born to be a servant...he tries to make me feel bad by telling me what his mother did for him and his siblings (everything, just bloody everything, silly woman) but I don't feel bad, NO WAY !!!
Isabella.

Have fun Traci!
Isabella, how can you let him go without! LOL I know that 'my shirts are inside out' look! WTH? DO I look like a maid? Dress like one? GET PAID LIKE ONE? UGH
The book sounds similar to the one I bought many years ago when dd was going through pre-teens. "I hate you, don't leave me!" or some such thing....Kids! Men! Animals! UGH! THey are all the same!
Got a call today...SOI/IOS TIME! Endo bx was good, but he's still concerned about the bleeding, so ordering yet another tv/us since its been 6 months! I so hate DOCS! Does anyone know how to get OFF this ride? Please point me in the right direction, cause I'm spinning my wheels here!

Felicia, good luck with the 15 yo, my rebellious one has actually turned into a wonderful young man I am so proud of but it took years of my blood, sweat and lots of tears to get him there!!!! I can't tell you all the things I had to do to keep him in line but something worked and sunk in somehow!!!! The other boys aren't so bad, after seeing their older brother grounded most of his teenage years and listening to me scream is not what they prefer so they stay within the boundries for the most part.
My IOS today, I called the pain clinic thinking my pain pump needs a refill soon. They tell me it should have run out of meds a day ago and I need to get to the clinic ASAP. I call around to find a ride and get down to the hospital and they start prepping me. I am nervous as crap, if you could see the size of the syringe to fill the pump, I about died. Then I knew they had to put a needle into my abdomen to fill this thing. Well, the doctor took the first stab at finding the center of the pump and he poked, pushed, poked some more while a nurse tried to hold the pump still because it moves alot. After stabbing me about five times he lets a nurse try. Mind you they did put a local there to avoid discomfort I was uncomfortable!!! After the 2nd nurse poked enough they decided to use the fluorosocpe machine so they would have quick photos of where the pump is, so the haul me down to the OR and get a rads tech to operate the machine. Once there they needed to take about 10 or 12 shots of the pump while positioning it to finally get it where they wanted. One stick and bam they hit it! Didn't take much to fill the pump once they did this. The nurse jokingly said, oops you sprung a leak and put a gauze pad with a bandaid on my abdomen. I am almost home and we stop at the store as I stand up my pants are soaked!!! I really sprung a leak. I guess all the local and whatever was leaking out of all the pin prick holes they gave me. I have been through quite a few guaze pads tonight and am still leaking..... My plan was to sit in my recliner, enjoy my quiet house with the babies away today and rest a bit.....so much for that plan. LOL

OMG! LuAnn, between you and DEB, I think the 2 of you have the most incompetent docs I've ever heard of! Is this pump something new and no one knows what the H*LL they are doing, or are really that stupid that they can't find it to refill? Good Lord, please try to rest lady!
Wait a minute! You've been falling asleep so much lately, although your pump has been empty? How can that be? Man, I'm confused and I'm not on pain meds! I have no idea how you keep up with all this stuff! Prayers you get this stopped and do NOT have to return there! So sorry you are dealing with it all

Bumper sticker I had on my fridge when mine were teens (yes, I let them live thru it but it was a decision I had MAKE on a daily basis!)
HIRE A TEENAGER WHILE THEY STILL KNOW EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, as my mother said to me: I hope you have kids that will act just the same way you do.
By the time they became human beings again, especially my dd, I had to send them away to college. She is one of my good friends today. She gave me a framed watercolor that says:
Over the years she changed in my eyes from being the best mom in the world to the most amazing woman I ever met. (cried big time with that one)
If you can get Prozac, I understand that helps--for yourself, of course, nothing overcomes being a teenager!

Traci - have fun in Florida!
Rock - families can really suck sometimes, I'm sorry! I'd say something I read on another thread (a pox on all her ancestors) but that wouldn't really be appropriate, as they're your ancestors too!
Crap, already forgetting... a big that sucks to all, and hugs all around...

Çombination SOI and IOS: MRI shows no sign of the original tumor - only the marker. IOS is that next to that area is a small spot that is most likely a calcification, but an ultrasound is being scheduled so the surgeon will know how much tissue to remove. Something about the dye contrast on MRI is best for cancer detection, but Ultra sound is best for calcifications... go figure. At least no pricks with the US. SOI is that surgeon has agreed to a pre surgery LE therapist measurement and consult and fitting for a sleeve. I am waiting for them to coordinate both appointments on the same day. Hugs for all and THAT SUCKS having to continue to deal with all this health business as well as teens, jobs, weather and more. Nancy

Nancy, my daughters friends mother called me a month ago with this same problem. Show a calcifacation by the tag where they removed a lump. She went through all the US and other tests and they were worried it was bc (first lump was B9) after removing this calcifacation it turned out to be B9. I hope yours turns out the same way.

Ok ladies, put down your snacks, plates and glasses, cans on soda and such - Here's something to make you laugh (Heaven knows it made me laugh and I needed it!)
AMAZINGLY SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES:
1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.
2. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTI NG THE TOILET SEAT BY USING THE SINK. IT ALL GOES TO THE SAME PLACE ANYWAY.
3. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. EVEN GEORGE WASHINGTON DID THIS! HOWEVER, REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.
4. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.
5. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.
6. YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.
7. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
DAILY THOUGHT: SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRSGentle Hugs,

My bitch today ? My favorite store ran a flash sale.... 20% off everything...for 24 hrs only.
After messing around doing silly jobs I was setting off late when DH decided he would come, which made me even later, HE NEVER COMES shopping with me, so that put me in a black mood to start with, I was aiming on doing a 'just about 1 hit, every Christmas present I'll ever need' type of shop.
All I got was 'How much??' 'Do we really need to get Christmas presents?' 'Why are you picking up 2 of that thing, isn't one enough?' ' Where do you think the money is coming from to pay for all these things??' I just stood in the middle of the store, abandoned my half loaded cart, and marched out. (Actually, I saw the length of the queues, so it didn't take much doing)
I have just sat an hour now , done all the browsing I want online, and still got my 20% off, and NO DH...he's gone to the gym. I think I have got it all sewn up.....I used to love Christmas, but it gets a chore when I have to top myself up on painkillers, wear sensible shoes, and know just where the rest rooms are. Trouble is, we 'do' Christmas at my house, and each year there seem to be more g/friends, and b/friends appearing, with the g/kids that I always have to have some spare presents hidden away. I don't think mens minds think of these eventualities !
When I was dx'd 5 Christmases ago, I gave away all my best Christmas crockery, tablecloths, kids' stockings, decorations, things that I had collected for years, of great sentimental value to me, thinking I would never ever need them another Christmas, so now we eat of a hotch potch of plates that don't match, and a dark green sheet in place of a tablecloth. I gave DIL most of my things, and she ain't giving back now !! She never even offers to lend me my things back ,and I don't like to ask !! . ( DD didn't want them, said it'd upset her too much to use them, she'd been brought up with all these things)
LuAnn, so sorry for your pokin' and proddin' I was curling my toes thinking of you.
Isabella.

Hey, you wonderful women. A huge THAT SUX! to everyone. Hugs to [[[[[[[[Nancy]]]]]]]]] & [[[[[[[[Lisa]]]]]]]] & [[[[[[[[Jane]]]]]]]]] & [[[[[[[[[LuAnn]]]]]]]]] & [[[[[[[[[wish]]]]]]]]]] who seem to be dealing with particularly lousy suckage at the moment. Trish, thanks for the list -- I especially like the last line about the slinky & pushing someone down the stairs! LOL
Parents of teens, I've often thought that the only sensible attitude toward your current life state is to think of it as a sentence you have to serve; eventually it will be over & in the meantime, you can only hope that maybe some kind person will throw you into solitary confinement so you can get a break.
My IOS today is a string of dumb, annoying sh*t that doesn't amount to much, but at least I don't work for the next two days so maybe I can get over it. I'm exhausted, the Effexor STILL hasn't gotten me out of the ditch yet, but I think I'm a tad better on this larger dose. Work is slamming, we have patients coming out of our ears & I had to pretend I was a nurse today, instead of just being a PT, & admit two people to homecare services because if I didn't, there weren't going to be any nurses available to do it for days & they needed PT anyway. Which makes me feel like I'm swimming at the deep end & I hate that. Not to mention there's enough paperwork involved to wallpaper a house.
But yesterday, I had one of those IOS/SOI's, which was that I visited a woman who is a patient on hospice who's dying of mets to everything, from lung CA. I let something slip inadvertently & she figured out I must have had CA too, so I fessed up & it was really poignant. She's brave & bald from chemo & has an awesome don't-bullsh*t-me attitude, and we both just sat there bonding by osmosis & said together, "This SUCKS, doesn't it?" And laughed. Which makes me, of course, want to cry when I think of her now.
Love to you all,
Kathi

I went to see BS today to have my wound checked. It is sloowwwly healing, so slowly, in fact, that she said she HOPES it will be healed by March when I am supposed to start rads. I am disgusted and discouraged because this was SO NOT NECESSARY. By now (10 weeks post mast), I should be healed and ready to be fitted for my prosthesis. Most people are healed by 6 weeks. I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that I will be packing my wound and changing yucky dressings for another 3 months.
On the bright side, I saw my therapist today and she told me that she would testify for me against the dentist that put me in this situation. She's more than happy to let them know how it has negatively affected my mentality.

Jane, we'll ALL testify against that swine-age!! Kathi

Yep, jane, just let us know and we're ready to posse up dear! Sorry it will be so long, dang that's just not right! SO sorry!
{{Kak}}, You're both right! THAT SUX!

Figured I would give you all a chuckle. My son has been diligently saving for a car. He does really well and puts over 50% of his paychecks in savings, pretty good for a 17 year old. Anyway he has been looking without much luck and came across something he liked but it was a 5 speed. He asked if I knew how to drive one and I do, always loved 5 speeds so I have been promising to go out to a car lot to test drive some 5 speeds. I am teaching him on dealers cars LOL Today was the first lesson and we survived with only about 5 stalls. Not to bad for the first try. But the first try to move the car he was having a hard time trying to figure out how to let the clutch loose and push the gas. I hear this big VARUUM and screamed. He jumped and I said are you trying to kill me???? I could just see this car screaming through the parking lot LOL
Oh well, the dealer got his car back in good shape and we both lived LOL We go off again Saturday to actually look at cars he likes. So am I a bad person for teaching him in cars I don't plan to buy? Although the Pontiac GTO was pretty sweet, wouldn't mind that one for myself!
0 -
LuAnn, you crack me up! What a stupendous idea for teaching a 5-spd and clutch! Burn out the dealer's bearings just a little bit at a time. I taught my teenager on a 5spd, but after about two days of complaining she changed her tune. It was all about "Heather gets a new Honda and it's an automatic". She was 'inheriting' her father's older 2nd car. A cherrysix-cylinder BMW. She realized quickly that the old grey thing would blow the doors off any new Honda. Heshed her right up - and she mastered those lower gears in no time! Yes, she too had to save up for it from her first job at Jamba Juice!
Nancy~ cold and snowy would be a huge IOS for me, too. Sunny San Diego awaits!
Isabella - hey woman, good for you doing shopping from the comfort of your slippers after DH's intervention. :::idea::: why not let ***D-i-L*** host Christmas festivities with her beautiful passed-down treasures?
Kathi - Work exhaustion SUCKS! But glad the new dose of Effexor is showing early signs of efficacy. You were right in your self-diagnosis.
Jane, that is so unfair that you are facing weeks more of wound care. We'll get that sum'bitch!
Traci - Bon voyage tomorrow! You need some rest and recreation. And yes, some turkey!
Rock~ family, innocent or ahem, otherwise - can make you wonder why you bother. But then there's usually a moment or two of closeness or kindness or at least lucidity that makes you glad you made the trip. How did it go with the friend at the airport who just HAD to shave her head?
Lisa

Suckage abounds here! Lisa, your news is major suckage, I am so sorry you are having to go through this. Jane, I hope you are suing the bastard dentist. And I hope your wound heals more quickly than anticipated. Isabella, I think Lisa's idea is a great one!!! She never offers to "Loan" you your old things, so maybe Christmas (the labor-intensive, dinner part) should be at her house!!!
Traci, I hope you have fun in Fla. Maybe we can get together after Thanksgiving but before Christmas--it's going to be a weird year at my house, my husband is on reserve from Dec. 23-28, which means they could call him anytime and he has to go fly. We'll either have Christmas on the 22nd or the 29th--depends on the kids. Also, my youngest son in Pittsburgh can't decide if he wants to be home or with his gf on Christmas....I, of course, want him to come home, but they are soulmates who I believe will stay together so I understand his dilemna.
Rock, hope your family stuff is not too annoying and you have some really good moments.
Off to work! (I'm in charge this week and I hate it!)
Sue
