Jane.....OMG that made me belly laugh. 20 LBS of it.

Saint....I don't know if I've thanked you properly or not so Thank you!!!!!  DH and I had a heart to heart with lots of tears on my part.  I think he gets it now.  Sex is good.  Glad you're having a good day.

My last rad is Friday and my nipple looks and feels like a french fry, my collar bone up to my neck looks like a big purple hicky but I don't care.  I'm just happy to be almost done so I can bitch and moan on this site with my breast friends forever.

This is my busy time of the year so I'll be lurking more than posting but I'll be irritating everyone again by July.

Barbe.... what time zone are you?  I seem to be the only one up late night other than you.  My Canadian geography is nonexistent.

    Hugs ladies.

AWWW... Saint, I KNOW your new kitten is so CUTE!!  I LOVE to hear the purr of a kitten!  Good Luck with your new kitty!!

You guys... my IOS  is that my surgeon wants me to have a breast MRI (I had one last year, no problem with my insurance approving it!) and now my insurance won't authorize it.  The test is scheduled for FRIDAY, at 9:00am!  I told the people at my insurance co. that I will just call and cancel if I don't get a phone call telling me it's been authorized ASAP!!   I'm taking my dh for a colonoscopy tomorrow, and when I get home, if there isn't a phone message saying it's all been approved, I'll have to call and cancel...

I spoke with a rep. today, and she needed my entire bc history...  last year, it was just approved, no problem!  She said that she needed to know my % risk of recurrence....  I was NEVER really given any numbers like that...   the Oncotype test gave me some % figures, but MY insurance doesn't believe that the Oncotype test is accurate, and they wouldn't pay for THAT, either.   Funny how when I gave her some % based on the Oncotype test, she seemed to be more receptive to my plight.

    Goodnight.  Talk to you later...

    Hugs

    Harley

    Super13, you look super

Harley, bet if your oncotype score saved them money, like showed no need for chemo, or cheaper TAM rather then AI would be effective your insurance company would believe the numbers then.  Our insurance company is giving us fits right now too.

Saint, good luck with the Kitty

(I already raved about Sue's new "look" on our May  '08 thread.  Good looking "gals"!)

Harley, I've been wondering how we're supposed to find out our risk of a contralateral tumor (new primary on the other side). That's what my insurance company uses to deny payment for screening MRI's of that breast (for me).  So, my docs won't order them...because my risk of a new primary there doesn't meet the criteria of being "high".  Whatever that is.

All the risk calculators (Gail Model etc.) bump you off if you say you've already had BC.  "Sorry--this calculator is only intended for women who have not been dx'd with BC."  I even wrote to the National Cancer Institute to ask them how to calculate risk of a new tumor in someone who has already had BC.  They said there is no on-line method available to do that, much less to factor in the issue of breast density (my big problem).  So, how in the heck can our insurance companies say they know what our risk is, and it's too low to justify an MRI?

That's a little IOS.  Here's another little IOS.  Did anyone else notice the mods' invitation for us to participate in a study for Fitness Magazine?  Did anyone notice that eligibility for the study is restricted to women who are UNDER AGE 40???  So, that means they aren't interested in promoting fitness in "older" women?  Just the ones who might look fresh and young on their magazine pages???

    Grrrrr... (otter growling).

    Hugs, though.

    Sue,

You look GREAT!!  Funny how having the reconstruction also gave me a better outlook on the future.

    Navy,

Hope your tx went well...  you are in my prayers!

    Nancy, and kmmd,

I decided not to stress over it, but I took my dh for his colonoscopy today, and when I got home, I called the rep. from my insurance co., and left a message, telling her that I would appreciate a call back ASAP, because IF this test isn't going to be authorized, I'll have to cancel by 3pm.   She called me back within 5 minutes, to let me know that after I gave her my details, she followed up with the director, and they approved it.   So that is my SOI today!  WAHOO!  I get to go EARLY in the morning, for a breast MRI!!    Not that I'm looking forward to the IV they will have to put in my wrist...  my veins are shot from the chemo...  oh well.

Thanks for the advice about having 'diagnostic' on the paperwork...  I really don't understand what their line of reasoning is, except that they try to deny ALL claims, to save them money.  But, if I had a Mammogram, as they recommend, and I got a blowout from my implants, that would cost them even MORE money to fix it!!   I'll have to remember to mention THAT next time!!  :D

Editted to add:   Otter, I didn't see your post before I started typing my tyrade about insurance companies!  Yes, how in the H*LL are we supposed to know what our risk is for bc recurrence,  especially when SOME of the very tests that help to determine our bc risk of recurrence (like the Oncotype) are so very new, that my insurance company won't pay for it, and they don't believe any of those numbers anyway??

And anyway, what difference does it make WHAT your risk of recurrence is, after having HAD bc, we are at HIGHER risk for recurrence, so therefore, WE should be approved for whatever test our dr. thinks we need!!!

Hope you are doing well.  I agree with you... why wouldn't they want to show that someone over 40 can be physically fit, too?  After all, one of the only things we CAN control about our risk for bc recurrence is... exercise to try to keep fit, and hope it helps keep the beast at bay.

Anywho...   Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good news Harley.  I had many discussions with insurance and finally had my PCP phone them to see what can be done.   (PCP is primary care doctor, who had to write a separate referral for everything she does not do in her office, which is everything related to my BC diagnosis and treatments).   They gave her a "forever" code to put on the referral form for #1) oncologist and #2) surgeon. ANYTHING they write a prescription for on their pads is automatically authorized because I have a "forever" disease.   She made copies for me and I give a copy to whatever department or test area and I have had no problems since.

I should have "remembered" this earlier, but you know how the brain cells are often AWOL...!!!

I do a GRRRR about under age 40... Maybe the AARP magazine can do a similar article/study and restrict to those OVER 40  ... LOL...

    Nancy,

What is this FOREVER code??  I really need it, so that NEXT YEAR, they won't give me a bunch of crap when I want to have a breast MRI again!!  Hey, I'll try anything, if I think it MIGHT work!!

    Thanks

Harle:  It is when a person is diagnosed with a disease that is forever, like diabetes -- or so I was told by my PCP.   She remembered it from someone else and confirmed that MY insurance company does it.   As long as the doctor who orders the test has one of the forms with that particular code, it is pre approved.   Hope that helps.

Harley, insurance companies just SUCK sometimes.  With all the time & resources they waste making people jump through hoops, they don't end up saving any money, so they might as well just stop second-guessing our oncologists & approve all the tests from the get-go.  GRRRR.  You rock, girl, for being persistant.

Otter, me,too, on the under-40 study.  But you and I know from our acquaintance with academia that research study parameters end up of necessity sometimes being defined so narrowly as to be virtually meaningless in the real world!!

Sue, Nancy, Navy, Everyone I missed:  Gentle hugs.

    Thanks Nancy!

    Nancy, Kathi, Otter, and all,

The test went well, I guess.  It was really hard for the nurse to get the IV into my vein...  even though I drank a gallon of water before, and she said that my veins LOOKED GOOD...  I guess that chemo just ruined them!!

    Kathi,

You are right...  If the insurance company saves money by denying all my claims, then they will eventually have to pay more when something goes wrong because I didn't get a test that I really needed...                            .....sigh

Anyway, that is finished for now.

I want to sleep through the weekend.

    Hugs

Hey, Hello and happy Friday to everyone!

Here's some suckage:  My oldest dd got arrested for DUI. Spent the night in the jail. (she's 28, so she knows better). I had to post the bail. What fun!  ick...go bathe.

My sisters house sits on a curve and some idiot -driving around at midnight just -missed the turn, jumped the curb, crossed the lawn and slammed into their red truck which crammed itself sideways into their garage, thru the door, taking out large portions of brick on the side wall of their house.!!! It's crazy. Guy wasn't drunk!?! about 50 yrs old. What a mess.

!!!GOOD NEWS!!!  I feel better. Yay!  I decided not to let the business of life drag me down anymore. I don't have a job, but I feel like I've awakened from a year and a half worth of constant pain.  I've got my life back, mostly, and with the help of several drugs, but way, WAY better than it was even just weeks ago. I added an iron tablet too and noticed a huge difference in my energy. Still don't have a lot of stamina, but I got ... SEX!!!  and it was Good. Yay for dh. Yay for me!!!

I'm gonna sit in the sun all weekend. well, near where the sun is shining, but in the shade, mostly, maybe. Gonna plant some annual flowers that I love. Can't afford much, but you gotta plant some annuals, even if all I can get is 3 plants. Thats OK. And one Tomato. That's about all I can tend anyways. It's ALL still SO MUCH BETTER WHEN YOU'RE NOT IN PAIN.

Then, in 2 weeks it's my Girls' Beach Week. This year we are going to Ormond Beach, FL near where we went last May. Nice little town, great little beach. Yes, I overload on sunscreen. Then I"ll overload on BEER and MARGARITAS!!!  hahahaha. I'm really looking forward to that.

Test results, bills to pay, bad dx's, raised markers, rads, recon, . . . I don't care anymore, the sun DID come out tomorrow and it will again and again and again. THANK GOD.

    Ya'll enjoy the weekend!

    ~Connie

I am going crazy.  Yesterday I watched a video of Nikki and someone else complaining they were bullied on breastcancer.org.  I never went back to put a comment to the piece.  Now I cannot find it.  I think that they went too far..... they should not have dragged a support group through the mud when they were cut off from it.  They both know what they did to get banned.  I felt sorry for them.  Now I dont.  Their selfish one-sided tv commentary may mean that many people will not come here for the support they need.
