Chemo in Sept 08

Hi Trude,
I had my first Taxol a week and a half ago and had weird pains all over. My bone and joint pain were the worst, but I also had shooting pains in my breasts. It was very weird. In fact, I thought the Taxol side effects were worse than the A/C. I do have a bit of neuropathy which started a few days after the steriods wore off. However, I felt great over the weekend and today. I went to my sons' hockey tournament and stayed all day for two days and felt like the good old days. But, Wednesday of this week is creeping up and it will all start again.
Chris! Congratulations on your last chemo tomorrow!
Springtime! Good luck today!

Trude.....I get those too.......not sure what it's from since I get Taxotere. I think it's about the same as Taxol......and it is very bothersome. Doesn't happen often......just pain shoots almost straight up from the ovary to the kidney on my right side!
I've never asked about that one.......figure I have enough goin on half the time to worry with it........lol

i am taxotere too, I think the shooting pains go along with the neuropathy i guess. I always have had tightness in my breast area after a tx but have had some sharp pains in various places along with some muscle spasms ext since the tax so I think that must be it.
I am vertical today- went to work for a VERY FEW hours..I can at least answer the phone right most of the time.LOL
I think once they saw me they knew that i wouldn't be working alot while on the taxotere.
Have a great evening!

Trude...I had neuropathy the first week..my left arm goes numb and tingly...also, my left hip, femur and my entire pelvis aches like the dickens...so my onc sent me for a bone scan today...I'm not gonna lie to ANY of you girls...
I'm scared.
Most of the time, my onc and the nurses would say that the pain is a side effect of Taxol, to take 600 mg of ibuprofen, and rest. But... since I'm such an anomaly (my cardiologists word...and I don't LIKE it), my onc wanted the scan pronto. I'll find out what it says either tomorrow, if I can get my internist to log into the dictation service...otherwise, I have to wait til Wed for my third Taxol. Send up a prayer or nine or ten...if you would...
As for your crappy oncology staff... I'd tell them, and I'm not the type to mince words...to straighten up and fly right, or they're ALL getting reported to the AMA for abusing a cancer patient. I'm in the sort of mood, I'd be happy to do it for ya, sweetie.. I'll even pose as your legal counsel...not that I'm anything of the sort... but I really would like to sock some of these jacknuts in the melon a few times...
oO am I hostile today?

Chris, CONGRATS ON FINAL CHEMO!!!! YOU BE DONE WOMAN!!!
Turde, I have ovary pain throughout, exp in AC, it was like they were trying to start up or something?? (I was "regular" prior to chemo). Never had the kidney thing though...
My surgery is tomorrow! I saw all the surgeons today. After all discussions, because I am so complicated with needing RADs probably after, and I am so picky, we have all agreed the best thign to do is bi-lat with 2 immediated implants with alloderm, then await pathology and rads if needed, then come back later to do the "natural tissue" parts. It is so complicated, but this will leave the most options open for later - So Phase I will *JUST* be bilateral Mx's with implants. Ha. Just. Anyway, the recovery will be easier with no abdominal or Glut incisions (for now...)

Trude,
Yes I had shooting pain in my ovaries, kidneys, spine and misc other spots a few days after my first Taxol. I am now on treatment 3 of taxol last Friday and have very few shooting pains this time. Neuropathy has been very mild-I take b vitamin complex and seems to help.

Wow, I feel....soooo....normal ???? Strange thing to say while on chemo. But, I do feel like I am trying to get a period or a bladder infection. Thanks for all the info. I did do the IB and it seemed to help. No finger or toe tingling ...which is a good sign.
Good luck Spring, It will go great, I can just feel it.
It just sucks to have a onc office that is so incompetent.....they make you afraid to call....and I work at a doctors office.....I know this is wrong.....I tried complaining to the Dr but she said she was over worked as was the staff....they can't AFFORD to hire.....I say B.S. Ok I am cranky today too. You guys are all so great, thanks for all the help. I also went to GNC and got the L Glutimin (?? spelling)...will try next treatment.
Wow this sure is alot mre intense than I thought it was going to be. I guess I had my head in the clouds or was in denial or something....glad to be done with AC

Hi everyone,
I'm not up to it today but had to come in and send everyone hugs and more hugs. Juli50, I love your hat. It must be wonderful to have energy again. I'm taking the energy you us all sent with gratitude.
Singapore Chris, GOOD FOR YOU...FINISHING YOUR CHEMO!
Trudecox, It sounds like our Oncologists and their office staff are related and not in a good way.
I'm delaying my Taxotere, because my Oncologist has driven me mad with his constant conversations, complaints and whines about my bad insurance, a Medicare Advantage plan, and his displeasure with it.
Oh well, win some lose some; and I'm losing him ASAP. I tried to talk to him and his office staff, but there is no talking to them. I finished my AC, and I'm looking forward to asking another Oncologist to start and finish my Taxatere, after I get my Original Medicare back along with a secondary insurance.
Spring and Lei, wishing you all the best.
Warm hugs Bettsygirl. I would really hate to miss a wedding.
back soon,
mina

Hi Girls,
Finished my chemo! Had a love time at the clinic, eveyone liked the cake and my oncol really enjoyed the poem I wrote for him and all of his staff. Two of my good local chemo friends also spend the morning with me, which was nice and my husband took photographs.
Take care everyone. Singapore Chris

It's tough being active on more than one thread. I already posted this on the bitch and moan thread, but I wanted to keep you all updated as well. I had a follow up with the bs today and she says I have lymphedema and I have to go to PT and see a lymphedema specialist. The PT will also work on freeing up my range of motion because I have some pulling and stretching under my arm pit. Just another adventure for me to traverse.

Jane_M! I forgot to tell you that I got your sweet card in the mail the other day! It's posted on my "wall of strength" next to my bed...I read every single card that I've gotten everytime I get too tired and want to quit chemo....
Thank you ALL for your prayers...It's funny... I've been lucky enough not to have any of the "regular" side effects of chemo, but I wind up with the ones that no one can figure out where they're coming from! I tease all of my doctors that I'm actually MAKING them EARN their money...that I'm the one that they'll never forget...that I'm their very own Rubik's Cube.
I swear...when all of this is said and done, anyone that's had their hands on me or my file is going out for a party!
Tomorrow's Taxol #3...Nine more to go!
Rah! Rah! Ree! Kick cancer in the knee! Rah! Rah! Rass!! Kick cancer in the A#*!!!!

My wife, Laura is halfway through Taxol, which is proving to be much more difficult than the first four weeks of AC. Once the Taxol is done, how long will it be before she starts feeling better? I know that she will have breast reconstruction, but I was curious when she would be ready for surgery. She doesn't even want to think about surgery now!

Hi Girls and Breastman,
Generally you get at least 3 weeks after any kind of chemo before they will start surgery. I had my taxol upfront, then 3 weeks later surgery, followed by 4 rounds of AC. It takes 3 week for the chemo to clear out of your body which is why they choose that gap. Infact they don't like going any longer as dr's like the treatment to follow on quite quickly if possible. I found the taxol much worse than the AC too, but any side effects, and I had lots, didn't actually last long, just a day or two, so tell your wife to hang in there and it will all be a distant memory soon.
Good luck for tomorrow prettiestmess!
Best wishes, Singapore Chris

ok... my question on waiting periods...how long of a break between chemo and rads?
0 -
Hi Prettiest...I finished chemo on Nov. 10. My docs wanted me to wait 3-4 weeks before I started rads. I had the markings done 2 weeks after finishing chemo and start rads on Monday (4 weeks from my last chemo).

Prettiest - I finished chemo on Nov. 17 and will probably start rads next week.
My eyes are so watery right now. And my upper lip and chin keep sweating???!! When do the SEs end? Anybody else having these? I guess I shouldn't complain though, huh?

Hi All, it's me Springtime.
Surgery was yesterday and was 5 hours, but I popped right awake after. Was talkative and happy when wheeled back to the room where Richard (dH) was awiting! Walked the halls, drank, ate, peedl pooped, -- all the good stuff!
I met with PS's the day prior to surgery, and to leave the MOST options open for later, we decided to *just* do the bilateral mastectomies this time both with immediate implants with AlloDerm. We're saving all my fat and flaps for after radiation. This way, we'll see how my skin/fat does with Rads and also how I like or dislike the prophylactic implant on the right.
anyway, I am FINE!!! Just wanted to thank all you ladies for your thoughts and prayers! Yay Chris for being done with Chemo. YOU BE DONE GIRL!!! Yay Robin!!! YAY YAY YAY nice clean bones!!! Thank you God!
Genia, thanks for lifting me up, and all the others who have been thinking of me. I am convinced all these prayers really work.
Love to my girls!!! Spring...

Congratulations, Springtime for plowing through surgery! Isn't it weird to know that they're "saving" your fat & goods for later? Makes you wonder WHERE they're keeping it? Does anyone talk to it, make sure it's warm enough...?
I'm in the middle of my 3rd Taxol as we speak, and they just rolled lunch around...but I missed the popcorn!
It's snowing again!!

The fat is still on me, safe and sound!!!
LOL, no worries!

Robin, no worries!!! I'm just glad all those times I threatened to do Lipsuction that I didn't do it! LOL.
