Good Evening everyone,  I took Rosie for the second opinion on Wed.  They put a new compression bandage over the injury where it affected the trachea, it was larger and tighter than the first.  After the original vet put the compression bandage on Monday the air in her skin had started to go down some.  The second vet said to give it to Friday and if she puffed up again he would recommend 2 surgeons in Midland either of which he would highly recommend.  Well she has not puffed up again, so he said to keep the bandage on for another week, if the air had left her body then to take it off, if not than keep it on for another week and then we would see.

They put my sister in a room.  We are going to College Station, TX to our Son's tomorrow and buy a new to us car on Monday.  Thought we would get a Toyota Matrix but it sold, so they have a 2011 Ford Fiesta that I think we will buy, 37 MPG Hwy.  We have to do something time to bite the bullett.

My heart goes out to the people in Aurora, CO.  It is so sensless and it seems that it happens more and more.

We have had some more rain, it sure feels good.  Hope everyone is doing OK, Take Care

Laugh at yourself and at life.
Not in the spirit of derision or whining self-pity,
but as a remedy, a miracle drug, that will ease your pain,
cure your depression, and help you to put in perspective
that seemingly terrible defeat and worry
    with laughter at your predicaments,
thus freeing your mind to think clearly toward the solution
that is certain to come. Never take yourself too seriously.

mommarch.....So glad to hear that Rosie seems to now be on the right track to mending properly.  I hope she keeps right on and does not need the surgery.  Her resilience is amazing.

It will be nice to "find" a car that you can rely on.  I know first hand from months of Dh having to constantly put his truck in the garage ---- and use my car how awful when you can't come and go when you need too.  He works 23 miles from here.  I work right here, but often had to beg rides to work, then stay over when time to go home.  If my frustration level had gotten much higher I think I might have become a stay at home housewife.  Not really a good thing for us or I'd be doing it.

Still doing my un-productive rain dance here.  Nut and nut pieces and shells are raining down from our trees.  This is something that usually happens in Sept. and Oct.  Welcome to fall in southern Illinois way early.  Well, weather-wise nothing has been 'normal' for quite some time so are just going on with the abnormal.

Hope you all have a really good Sunday.

    Hugs, Jackie

We are having daily rains in the afternoon...enough to keep everything green and me from having to water the plants daily.  On the other hand, it is creating havoc with my BF's golf game because it's cart paths only, and he doesn't do well when he has to walk too far because of his MS.  Good thing the British Open is on to keep him entertained.

I'm going into town to get a mani/pedi to be ready for my "girlfriends" get together next week.  It should be fun, although I am going to have a long drive of winding roads over the mountain to get there.  I pity those behind me, as I will be driving like an old geezer;)

I still have this red spot in my eye from the injection last Thursday..no pain or loss of vision...so nurse tech said that was normal because he probably hit a blood vessel when he injected.  This is first time that happened in four injections which makes me wonder about his competence.  I might just wait until I go back to Florida to get my next one.

Hope everyone has a happy Sunday!

I forgot to add that I watched some of the survival stories on TV last evening of the poor people who were in the theater.  The heros really emerged and there were heartwarming stories of those who threw themselves on top of others to shield them from harm.  Then there was the story of the couple and their baby and toddler...the boyfriend dropped the baby, jumped over the balcony, and ran out of the theater, leaving the mother to save both of them...and he had a nerve to talk about it on nat'l television in great detail.  I was appalled.  Later in the hospital, he actually asked the mother for her hand in marriage and she said yes.  What am I missing here?

It's a sad day for American citizens when someone can order 6,000 rounds of ammunition over the internet, multiple guns, full flack gear, no questions asked, and use that against innocent victims.  Is this what our forefathers had in mind when they gave us the privilege of bearing arms to protect ourselves against the enemy?  I don't think so.  I could go on for hours, but this isn't the forum....

My heartfelt prayers to the victims and their families.

I know Kaara!  That "mother" is not thinking clearly....  If she marries him, after deserting the BOTH of them, she is brainless.  I can't understand how people can purchase, or are allowed to keep those military weapons, AND all that gear he had on.  And then to be able to obtain all the ammunition from ANYwhere, much less the Internet is just mind-boggling!  Why would any "sane" person need this weaponry, and ammunition???

That's where the laws are wrong.  Some guns, for hunting maybe, but NOT pistols, or any other type use mainly for killing people!   When I read updates in the paper, it just brings tears to my eyes.  Is it because I am older now?  That I have no patience for this crap?  That my only wish would be that there were no trial, that he be sent somewhere to remain in solitary confinement for the rest of his life....In the dark..... That he never see the sunshine again, nor be able to talk to a living soul, and only be fed stale bread, and potatoes  for as long as he lives.  Give that b****** time to think about what he did.  There is never an excuse, nor reason for what happened.

Mommarch.... I think about little Rosie lots.... hope she will do better now.... and Kaara, glad that one injection is at least over with.... I hope you aren't afraid to get more.....

Morning Jackie and Carole.... Going to sort out more "stuff"....Wink

Chevy:  I have no choice...I'll have to get more injections in order to save my eyesight in that eye.  It's not causing me any pain..it's just ugly, and not looking like it's going away anytime soon.  I googled it and sometimes it takes two weeks...oh joy!  This didn't happen with my retina specialist in Florida...I'm thinking maybe he has more experience with giving the injection.

Well...I just made a donation to the nail salon in town...I got all the way home and realized I'd left my polish there.  Too lazy to turn around and go all the way back:(

Gosh, what a pain to have a red blotch in the eye.....though wonderful that it isn't painful.  I guess these are "aging" gifts, but sometimes the thought probably comes..........I went through all I did, only to now have to deal with what !!  I think its a Gilda Radner situation.  You know she made that line famous:  " It's always something "!!.....and it is.  Just when you are ready to smooth into a way less wavy or bumpy ride.....along comes another iceberg.

I guess I mainly think of "older" ages as things going smoothly because I guess everyone I knew just handled things so well I didn't notice the amt. of turmoil that can go on.......and the things you have to do to keep "fixing" all the time.....must have seemed rather routine.

Well.....when I am old I shall wear purple and red together and just be grateful I guess.

I hope you all have a great Monday.  I'll be checking in after work.  See you then.

    Hugs to Rosie.

They are showing that red-headed freak at his first court hearing....sitting there pouting!  Wow!  All the feelings and emotions of hatred everyone has just looking at him.   He looks completely bored with the whole process.  He had told the cops that first saw him that he was the "joker".... so the hair is red.

Prosecuter is asking for more time?  So not charged with 1st degree murder yet?   More time for WHAT???  Sorry, but most of us are just livid.

Watch them claim prejudicial pre-trial publicity, and even mental problems.  I don't think they will EVER find an impartial juror that does not think him guilty.  He should just plead guilty to all counts... Why does HE have any rights?  His took his victims rights away.

Chevy:  Everyone is entitled to fair treatment in the court system...regardless of their crime.  God forbid his rights are violated in some manner and he is set free...this has actually happened in the past.  In our local town in Florida, this guy was running a meth lab and the police broke in and searched it without a warrant.  He was set free and never did one day of jail time.  The insanity plea will definitely be used...there is no other defense. The only hope for a defense is to get him locked up in a mental institution for life...like John Hinkley who shot and wounded President Regan.  I personally think he knew exactly what he was doing...I hope Colorado has the death penalty.  A friend of mine mentioned that Friday was the first day of Ramadan...this is why the police wanted those computers...there could be a terrorist connection.  That would certainly put to rest any pleas of insanity.  They want more time to search those computers and stuff they got from his apartment.  He went to great lengths to try and insure that his computers would be destroyed..no reason for that unless he was trying to hide something or protect someone.  It was by the grace of God that no one entered that apartment of his...many more would have been killed.  The courts can take all the time they need...just fry him in the end!

I know....I know....  Everything you say is right... I think they want to make sure there was pre-meditation.  And the death penalty is alive and well here... but they were talking about all the "criteria" that has to be in place before they ask for that.  We are all going to pay to take care of this "person".... I only pray that he will "be taken care of" .....  one way or another....

For the President to say that "our hearts are with the victims, not the shooter" helps a little.... I remember my Mom being so upset when anything tragic would happen.... I think those feelings just come with age....

How is your eye?  Maybe it "just happened" and it wouldn't again, with the same Doc...but I would be afraid too!

Carole!  Glad your Mom is doing well!  I know that makes you feel better.........  Have a fun vacation!

I'm chiming in here too on the shooter.  I think for the sake of all the families who lost loved ones and or had injuries ----  whatever is done, it needs to be handled so that this person is eligible for the maximum punishment period....whatever that might be in the state of Colorado.  I personally feel for the most part anyone who willfully injures or kills someone who is minding their own business may not be judged mentally ill, but they aren't really in their right mind.  It to me is not a logical, sane act --- to kill anyone and to try to "get" as many as you can.  It can not be rational thinking............so it is up to others to determine if their is evidence of a deranged, diseased mind.  Some times people are judged sane because the law is worded in such a way that it is possible.  I think it is semantics though..........it is not normal for people to kill other people.

Anyway....I'm home and waiting for it to cool so i can go out and fill the pool for Billy.  Also will give the dogs fresh cold water.  It has been about 105 most of the day.  Very distressing.  Several more days of it too.

Hope you all stay well and have a wonderful evening.  See you all later.

    Hugs, Jackie

Tonight I'm tired.  A "nice" kind of tired.  This morning I walked 3.22 miles, up and down some hills on a nearby secondary highway.  Then this afternoon dh and I ventured out in the kayaks again.  My arms and shoulders got a good workout with the paddling.  You would have gotten a laugh at the scene we made getting out of the kayaks.  We both rolled over and fell into the water!

A nice breeze made the day pleasant.  We left the camper open all day and then closed up late this afternoon and turned on the A/C.

Jackie, I sure hope south IL gets some relief soon with this dry hot weather.

Mommarch, cheers for a different more reliable vehicle.

Kaara, I'll bet you're going to have a ball with your women friends.

Chevy, what is green chili?  You sound like a good cook.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful evening.

Carole, basically, Green Chili is made using those roasted green chili's you can get at the farmers markets, usually the Anaheim.  Or you can "roast" your own by laying them under the broiler, turning, until the skin blisters, then peeling off the skin.  I just lay mine across the gass burners on the stove, to blacken the skin.

OR you can buy the green chili's in a can!  I just use mild (not the hot), and add a diced jalapeno if you want it hotter.  The chili is just made by frying diced garlic in a little oil, then onions, peeled tomatoes, a diced green bell pepper, water, chicken flavoring, and the green chili's.  Simmer for an hour or more, thicken with a little flour & water.  Most real Mexican food is made with tender pork.... but I make the vegetarian style, with the chicken broth.

And it's good smothering a bean burrito or make Huevos Rancheros.  A warm flour tortilla, with an egg and re-fried beans, and lots of cheese on top....Ha!

And your Kayaking mishap........ It's so much fun when you can do something like that, and laugh about it!  I love that!  I'm like Kaara, I think that would be my normal mode of dis-embarking!..... And landing with the kayak on top of me!

The day is starting off beautifully! xoxoxoox

Well I'm off to my adventure on the other side of the mountain today...joining my girlfriends for a few days of fun!  The sun is shining right now and I hope it stays that way...don't want to drive on the mountain roads in stormy weather:(  The home I'm going to is beautiful but waaaay back in the woods (think witness protection) and hard to find.  I'll need to leave a marked trail to get out of there.  Even my GPS doesn't work that far in.  I don't know how they ever found this place, and I'm amazed that they love it so much because they are such sociable people...always having parties and going places.  They don't stay the entire summer like we do...they come and go for a few weeks at a time.  The little town nearby, Highlands, is very quaint and has a lot of nice little shops to explore, so I'm sure we'll do that one day, and probably eat out most of the time.

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

Kaara......hope you have a really great time.  I love those secluded out of the way places.  One of the reasons we chose our house, though  it is not all that hard as the one you are going too.....but since our road is how one of the houses at the bottom access their driveway....people often mistake that the road keeps going a lot farther on.  After a big curve......and about a block farther, there is our house.  There is one more house past us, but they have a turn around drive-way there as the road ends.

Anyway....please have fun for me because I'll be here baking in the 107 degree heat.  Yikes.....sure hoping for rain on Thursday and if lucky, Friday too.  It is way too hot and dry and we will continue to see things in our yard that do not belong...like the long gray snake I saw slithering around by our deck yesterday.   Zowie, enough is enough.

Hope you all have a great Tuesday.

Kaara, that is too funny, about the finding the place and finding your way out.  When we bought our first property hear at the Davis Mt. Resort we had to hang reflection tape from trees to mark our way back on the road.

Carol your kyacking sounds like when hubby first taught me how to ice skate, so much fun and so many laughs.

Chevy, your green chilli sounds wonderful, I make green chicken enchilads, but I buy my sauce.  Bet yours is yummy.

Jackie hope you all get a break soon, my Mom (87) lives in southern Iowa and they have had 105 also.

We bought the car and got home today around 6:00PM.  It is nice, it got 39 MPG Now just got to pay for it.  Payments are a little more than we wanted, but we can have it refinanced in 6 months to a year.  Learned one thing about paying cash for everything, you have no credit when you need it. Just the gas mileage with the miles I drive to work will be like a raise.

My sister is out of ICU as of the weekend and may get to go home by Thursday just depends.

I am beat and need to get to bed.  Happy thoughts to all.  Rosie is doing much better, she still has some air on her back side, but her butt is going down.

    Take Care

Maybe that's what's wrong with me!!!  I have too much air in my back-side too... And my butt!  Maybe I should wrap those places with something tight like remember when we had to stop nursing, and we wound those cotton diapers around our chests, to keep the milk from coming in?   Wink

No kidding, mommarch, I'm glad little Rosie is better.

We went on a short drive up to the mountains yesterday, and it wasn't quite as hot...But going back home, and on the highway, it felt like driving in a furnace.  The thermometer on our back patio said 110 at 3:30...  So thankful we have a swamp-cooler.... And we keep changing the water, filling it with cool water from the hose!   Lacee just hangs out in the house, except when we are outdoors in the mornings and late afternoons.

Jackie!  You saw a snake?  Maybe it's even too hot for him!  Going to Super Walmart this morning, and then share a snack!  It's nice just to get out everyday, and go somewhere else where it's cool.  Have a cool one gals.....

Morning.  Those dogs look like they are so comfy.  Yesterday I did part of my outside chores....then came in for a bit, cooled a little ( not too much for fear I wouldn't want to go back out ) and then finished.  Sorry....I put a picture in that ended up too big --- so took it out....that's my deletion.

Oh how I'd love to drive something that got decent mileage.  My car gets ( when it's really tuned up well ) about 18 in town....maybe 21 on the highway.  Still, I will hate it when I have to "lose" it to something else if we still live here.....out in the country.  We are a little over 1/2 mile from the highway and I have been able so far to go where I needed......and even drive into town to feed the feral cats and pick up groceries for a couple of people who couldn't even make it out of their driveway.

So glad to hear Rosie is doing better.  Hopefully she will mend well with a little more patience.

Chevy....too funny about the the air in the backside.  Haven't seen any more snakes since Monday and praying I don't.  I'm not necessarily afraid of them...... I just would rather not have to " deal " with them too much.  We do have four around  that are poisonous -- Managua ( sp? ) Copperhead, Cottonmouth,& Water Moccasin. The last one actually stays right around the lake.....we are too far away for them to come though there are a couple of ravines ( they can stay a little wet at times ) that feed the lake.  Anyway.....this one I saw was not one of them.

The upside to this heat.....we did not get the predicted deluge of bugs.  I only saw four ticks this yr.  So far, for living so close to the lake ( big water source for eggs ) we haven't had mosquitoes either.  I guess in this heat.....if they don't get a "meal" right away....they just dry up or something.  Our big problem was the over-abundance of fleas which we are still fighting like deverything.  Our yard is not too bad.....but no fences so of course, the dogs get outside of the treated area.

Hope you all have a fantastic day.  I'll be checking in after work.

    Hugs, Jackie
