Mother Cabrini...brings back bittersweet memories. Many years ago, my grandmother fell and broker her hip. They took her to Cabrini Hospital here in NYC. When we went to visit her, as little kids we got very bored, and I'm sure they didn't want us in the hosiptal very long...noisy, rambunctuous kids. So we went "exploring" and found the chapel attached to the hospital. They have the remains of Mother Cabrini interred there. As I remember it, and this just MIGHT be embellished by a little kids' memory, she's laid to rest inside the altar which has a glass side. That was my first experience with the term "blessed relic."
Only a few years later, my grandmother had a stroke the day before Christmas and died the day after Christmas...at Cabrini Hospital. So it's tied to a rather sad experience in my life.

Ok, I must look up mother Cabrini. Sounds like a great story...great LIFE!
I'm glad you're laughing Laura...it is good for the soul!..... I have always been painfully honest. Yes, I had 12 yrs catholic ed...BUT...I remember very little of any biblical stuff. Yeah great education it was/is just time to do all this ya know? So, yes, I have to laugh at my ignorance too....I don't mean it in THAT much of a self deprecating way- just....like I tell all my trainees at work....There are no stupid questions! But if they crack you up eVEN better! and I will laugh too! LOL
Ya know part of what spurred me onto all this quest to be a better Catholic) too....My last serious boyfriend(we split about 2.5 yrs ago). He was very spiritual......basically attended Baptist svces at the big First Baptist downtown Dallas. He grew up Episcopalean and his sister, asst DA for whichever county Austin is in still VERY Episcopalean. We dated about a year. His mom and twin bro had both died in the 6 mos before we met...His mum and Dad were both military and the mum was a nurse(like me!). Anyhoo. Loved his family, they loved me...I loved him. When we split, it was tough and mostly his doing...BUT he claimed....and despite the fact it sounded lame at the time......difference in religion...was a big problem for him. As time has passed I have decided it IS/would have likely been a problem for me as well.
My own mother was actually Presbyterian, raised us all Ctaholic, attended mass w/ us, sent us to Catholic schools, etc. Eventually she converted...like a few days before she died. Loved her so much and I canNOT imagine doing something similar...BUT it was SUCH a different time. They married in 1943. A bout a year and a half after mum died my Dad remarried a Widow lady from church and it was THE best thing for so many reasons but I guess what was SO incredibly obvious to me was the shared faith(but life experiences TOO) truly gave their marriage what was probably lacking in my own parents. Ok, sorry to drone on here............POINT of this story: I decided I didn't know NEAR enough about my own faith and vowed to do something about it. I think I've said this before...I truly feel a debt of gratitude to Caholicism...How many 44 yr old women(who already had birthed and raised 5 kids-TEN years prior) would have gone thru w/ having a baby? Actually we know many...BUT I know at the time and for my mum it was horrifyingly embarressing! ). And really probably cramped her style but she did the best she could and I know my feet probably never hit the ground w/ all the older siblings and same aged nieces and nephews of the first 2 sisters. Ok, enough about ME!
Angel....THANK you.....We have not yet done Deuteronomy......I don't think......pretty sure I didn't miss it....I know we've not done Genesis. We get VERY in depth. BUT, it was VERY important to me to have a legit class taught from Catholic perspective....and I'm definitely getting my money's worth...I JUST have to put more IN! and I will.
First, Thank you God for letting me sleep until after 5am! ahhhh.....
Oh yeah...about the NYC hospitals.....do any of you by chance watch Showtime Nurse Jackie? I LOVE that series.....It is wrong in many ways- basically she is an addicted nurse BUT it is SO well done. Edie Falco is phenomenal and she is Catholic, they have the greatest chapel.....Ok, sorry, digressing here!
From daily Catholic Bible: St Agostina Pietrantoni
" We will lie down for such a long time after death that it is worthwhile to keep standing while we are alive. let us work now; one day we will rest"
Sheesh! How's that for work ethic? Maybe that's where it comes from! Guess it's still ok to keep holy the sabbath?
From Saints a year in Faith and art: St serapius: Mercedarian Martyr: Born at london, som of noble captain, at the court of Henry II. his life was adventurous, participated in the Crusades, survived a shipwreck, was taken hostage. made his living serving princes and kings until he met Pter Nolasco in 1221. Joined the order of Our Lady of the Ransom and workd vigorously to obtain release of many Christian slaves and to spread the values of the order. Tortured and killed at Algeria in 1240. Canonized in 1625 depicted in the white habit of the Merecdarians, tied to the scaffold. Invoked against arthritis.
Serapius is of latin Origin, by way of the Egyptian, and means "sun".
So there ya go ladies. Have a phenomenal Saturday. Need to bolt, new yard guy today takes cash only and I have none and sun is UP....Get to practice my spanish skills too!
vaya con dios! gracias Agatha y Peregrine! continua por favor!

I just did a search for Frances Cabrini and there's a picture of the altar...just the way I remembered it (and we're going back like 50 years in my memory).
Continuing the novena...St. Peregrine, please intercede on behalf of our special intentions...and for all at bc.org. Amen.

Hi Ladies...sadly the only Catholic hospital left in NYC is St. Vincent's downtown in the village (BTW do you all realize we are the largest charitable organization in the world....outside of the US gov't?) St. Vincent's does wonderful work with AIDS patients. Cardinal O'Connor used to visit that hospital monthly, at night, quietly, ministering to the AID's patients...
But another thing...I must share with you this novena that should have been started yesterday to end on the 22nd which is the feast of Jesus Christ the King! Perhaps you might consider adding it to your daily prayers until then??
The Novena in Honor of Jesus as True King
Recite One Our Father, One Hail Mary and One Glory Be
O Lord our God, You alone are the Most Holy King and Ruler of all nations. We pray to You, Lord, in the great expectation of receiving from You, O Divine King, mercy, peace, justice and all good things. Protect, O Lord our King, our families and the land of our birth. Guard us we pray Most Faithful One. Protect us from our enemies and from Your Just Judgment. Forgive us, O Sovereign King, our sins against you.
Jesus, You are a King of Mercy. We have deserved Your Just Judgment. Have mercy on us, Lord, and forgive us. We trust in Your Great Mercy. O most awe-inspiring King, we bow before You and pray; May Your Reign, Your Kingdom, be recognized on earth.
Amen.

Secular report: Because I have not yet done my daily saintly duties! Not sure Edie Falco had cancer....I just know she's a great actress, unsure about her health?....she plays an addicted nurse who is married and having an affair w/ a pharmacist she works w/ who supplied her habit in 'Nurse Jackie' on showtime and the character Nurse Jackie is Catholic and works in a Catholic hospital in NYC....One thing she always says is: "Make me good God, but not yet"....I heard the NY nurses assn was all up in arms.....as if the show might imply NYC nurses are addicts..............puhlease!......ok, sorry ladies......love, prayers and continuing the novenas for CTK, Peregrine and of course to Agatha.0

Hi ladies! I have a question that I'm not sure has been addressed here because I haven't taken the time yet to go through all of the posts. (So much to read on this site!!)
For those of you who don't wear wigs, what do you wear to cover your head to attend Mass? A nice hat? A scarf?
I tried a mantilla but it just doesn't seem to sit right without hair to pin it to or even with a scarf underneath.
I usually have no problem going out in public with my nearly bald head and little gray antennas sticking up, but church seems to stress me out a bit trying to find something appropriate to wear.
I'm at the point of wearing the same thing every weekend because it's what seems to go most with the black hat I bought. It would be nice to wear something else without having to invest a ton of money in different hats!
Any ideas?
Thanks!!

Marie, I didn't have to go thru this....I am sorry you are...BUT I was watching a movie last pm called Grey Gardens w/ Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. Drew Barrymore's character lost her hair and she started wearing these scarves, some were kinda fabulous, some she looks kinda muslim, but check out when she ties them in back and fixed this sort of jeweled clip thingie.
http://www.hbo.com/films/greygardens/index.html
Just an idea! It was actually a pretty good flick, check it out if you have HBO!
OK, so I am here to report that Nov 15th per my Saints, a Year in Faith and Art book is:
St Albert the Great: Bishop and Doctor of the Church. Born into a noble family in Swabia(Germany) in 1206. Entered the Dominican order at padua when he was seventeen. He taught at Hildesheim, Regensburg and Cologne before teaching theology at Paris. Provincial prior bewtween 1254 and 1257, three years later he was elected bishop of Regensburg. Died in 1280. beatified in 1622, canonized in1931. Protector: Scientists, students of natural sciences, and naturalists. Albert is of German origin and means "all clear". It can also be a diminutive of Adalbert, which means "of clear nobility."
And from the Daily Catholic bible...a quote from........St Albert the Great!
" To forgive those who have injured us in our body, our reputation, our goods, is more advantageous to us than to cross the seas to venerate the sepulchre of the Lord."

This is for lovemyfailysomuch...
Heavenly Father,
I call on you right now in a special way. It is through your power that she was created. Every breath she takes, every morning she wakes, and every moment of every hour, she lives under Your power.
Father, we ask You now to touch her with that same power, For if you created her from nothing, You can certainly recreate her. Fill her with the healing power of Your Spirit. Cast out anything that should not be in her. Mend what is broken. Root out any unproductive cells. Rebuild damaged areas. relieve her of her pain.
Let the warmth of Your healing love pass through her body to make new any areas of concern. Let her body function the way you created it to function.
And Father, restore her to full health in mind and body so that she may serve You the rest of her life.
Amen
Prayers for all of you tonight, dear sisters...

Hi Estepp!
I've never like crowded places, so when I would attend the Novus Ordo mass, I would either sit at the back of the church or stand in the vestibule, especially in flu season.... and that was way before I even had cancer! lol
Now I attend the traditional Latin Mass instead. There's no hand-shaking or hand holding like they have during the Our Father in the Novus Ordo. So, I don't have to worry so much about picking up germs off of someone else's hand.
Your oncologist probably would have hated me. If my oncologist told me that about it being a cesspool, I would have asked him if he meant it was like his lobby. I think I'm more likely to pick up some cruddy cold or flu in the waiting room of the doctors office than anywhere else! lol It amazes me sometimes that with the kind of money some doctors make that their waiting rooms are so tiny and cramped.

Apple...what an interesting idea. My given names aren't all that special (Nancy Patricia), but I took Agnes for my confirmation name because my teacher that year was Sr. Agnes Bernard, and she was a doll. She was very sweet and good to the children in my class. At the time, my parish had us make our confirmation about a month after our first communion. Really, 2nd graders making their Confirmation. We hardly knew anything about our faith!
Anyway, it was a bit later I found out St. Agnes was the patron of virgins, lol. I don't want to tell you how many guys thought that was a challenge especially for them.
Continuing the novena...St. Peregrine, we ask that you intercede for our intentions. Amen.

Hi all!
My name is the Gaelic interpretation of Helen....after St. Helen's husband died she committed herself to a life of prayer and works of mercy.....sometimes I feel that is what I will have to do, too!
Before the night is over....can I repost the prayer that was given to St. Gertrude on this her feast day!
A Prayer to Free 1000 Souls from Purgatory
Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that the following prayer
would release 1000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said.
The prayer was later extended to include living sinners as well:
"Eternal Father, I offer thee the Most Precious Blood
of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said
throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in
Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the
universal Church, those in my own home and within my family.
Amen"
God Bless!
Angel!

Love my family......................FEEL the love and prayers! we got ya sister! and are here for ya! Keep us in the loop!
OK ladies! drumroll please.............. I return to work today....was originally to be 8 hr nl shift BUT got a phone call I need to do annual employee health check which is basically a TB skin test...read 48 hrs later as negative........................so I'm going in for the health check, may see if I can sit in a no pt area and go thru 2 mos of e-mail.....I did NOT check it from home.....TOO much! Then I'm coming home to do thank you's, work out and might go for mani/pedi. Have a meeting to go in for tomorrow and Thurs(as long as no TB...lol!) I should be resuming in staffing.
Yesterday bought the ten commandments deluxe version w/ Charleton Heston. It also includes a silent version from the 20's? Haven't opened yet....best thing? I used a Barnes and Noble gift card that was almost the exact amt! Really looking forward to watching......eeks this must be the 40 yr old version of trying to Cliff notes study for the CBS test....actually I may not watch til the wkend.
Ok ladies.....I MUST find a productive means to channel my energies....................I almost popped a gasket when I heard the new screening guidelines last PM.....................I WANT other women to have the same benefits I had! Early detection saved me at age 41 and 43...I never had anything to see or feel but it was real................and because of the miracle of modern technology and God working thru other mens minds, hands, etc I liberated myself of what could have been Sooo much more grave. Yes there was anxiety but is that a reason to withhold diagnostics or treatment? Unfortunately I was watching NBC news when I heard it which further p*&%ed me off! The whole comment from Brian Williams about "this will certainly be perceived by some as 'rationing'" because it IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plain and simple................Oh ladies, I digress to keep from having a stroke...............
sigh.................prayers now..............redirect myself.............
Yesterday was Saint Margaret of Scotland....sorry I missed it
Nov 17th: saint Elizabeth of Hungary(from Saints: a year in faith andArt)
Queen, daughter of Andrew II of Hungary. Born in 1207, educated as Thuringian princess. Married the landgrave Louis IV in 1221, mother of 3 children. Famously generous in her care for the poor and sick, most of all after the death of her husband when she entered the Franciscan tertiaries. Died at 24 and was canonized in 1235. protector of bakers. 'Elizabeth' is of Hebrew origin and means "God is abundance"
WOW!!!! all that before she was even 24! wow, wow, wow!
A quote from her! From Daily Catholic Bible: " As in heaven Your will, Father, is punctually performed, so may it be done on earth by all creatures, particularly in me and by me."
Thank you God, for easing my anger. Thank you for interceding....more like INTERCEPTING! In my own life and sparing me. Thank you for your PERFECT timing and for the true MIRACLES of modern technology that could potentially be squelched and witheld! Thank you St Agatha and St Peregrine for watching over us and please watch especially over love my family while she waits......help w/ her anxiety.
Amen,
Ladies, have a wonderful Tuesday!

Good morning sisters in Faith,
I am feeling much better thank you and Thank You Lord!! Pet Scan Thursday so no carbs tomorrow, hard. Going to see Gynecologist in a bit to discuss upcoming oophorectomy. Getting this done after Dbl Msx and before RADS. What a schedule!
Lovemy family, I am praying for you. Do not Worry! In Matthew states (can't remember exactly) Let God handle this and it will be okay. I'm not worrying about Thursday's PET scan..it's all in HIS hands.
Jennifer: That quote came from a booklet my DD gave me from the Sacred Heart of Jesus ministries. You sure know a lot! Thank you for all the incredible historic info. I also love Nurse Jackie..crazy show but addictive!
Today's Catholic Devotion- The Courage To Witness the Faith
"This is how he died, leaving in his death a model of courage and unforgettable example of virtue not only for the young but for the whole nation." 2 Maccabees 6:31
St.Peregrine, continue your intercessory prayer in Jesus we pray.
Have a blessed week everyone!
