Finally catching up after two weeks of incessant activity, which includes having my skis, poles, boots and bicycle bag stolen from my car. Seems this area is the most recent place for the Seattle drug gangs to roam (they move from town to town). I am not thrilled that they have been using our parking lot to shoot up either.

So off to REI later for a hat, goggles and gloves. I have old skis and will replace the stolen ones when I drive to the Methow Valley on Thursday.

I would be a spineless 300' couch potato if I had to depend on a treadmill for exercise!! I go out, even if it means getting soaked to the skin. I won't do black ice, and I won't do -20F. But almost anything else. (I have been wet quite a bit recently.)

Love the pictures, Ruth. I think the mountain is the one I drove around several times when I was in Phoenix 15 months ago. My business partner is there this weekend on a contract work assignment. Love the mountain picture, Heidihill!!! Venice is on my bucket list, and winter is probably better than the summer head.  Oddly enough, I had two college courses on the art and mercantile history. You can thank them for double-entry bookkeeping.

Tessu....snowshoeing is much more strenuous than walking, so look at it that way. At least 600 calories per hour vs. something like 250 for walking. Did you notice that you were very warm and sweaty in cold weather?? That should tell you something. My fitness tracker significantly underreports the amount of burn while I am skiing.

Off to take care of a work assignment and get some ski items. Happy, happy weekend! - Claire

Lilac, Happy Anniversary! Hope you have a lovely trip.

Ruth- thanks for the Netflix recommendations.

Claire, that is awful about your gear being stolen. Ugh.

    Yoga class this morning. 🙏🏻

Ruth I think we received around 3 inches. We shoveled too and it definitely wasn't enough to make it worth firing up the snowblower for.

Claire..big difference between Seattle winters and ND winters. So it's a good thing you don't have to live in ND during the winter, isn't it! We can't get thru the winter without utilizing some indoor fitness options. I have the proper gear and will run outside to about 15* most winters. This winter is a little different since I just finished active cancer treatment, I have been sticking to my treadmill more. Running outside in temps below 15* requires extra layers and I just feel too bundled up. We invested in a quality treadmill several years ago so I could safely run year round. I slipped on ice one winter wearing my yak trax on a run and broke my elbow in 2 spots. I tend to do more cross training during our winter months as the treadmill does get tedious but not much I can do when you need to get a run in and you have a wind chill factor of -36* and a wind speed of 28 mph like today! Sorry about your ski equipment! The skiing sounds lovely...we have a trip planned to Big Sky in March!

I grew up in Vermont, so suspect I know a thing or 2 about winter. I remember walking from our daily barn back to the house when something like -15F. Agree though, that no real winters here in the Puget Sound area, but they do get them further inland. But nothing like Northern New England or North Dakota. I was born when it was -20F if that tells you anything.

REI turned into a furniture store, so a walk in the rain for nothing. I will need to plan a trip into Seattle for the hat, gloves and goggles.

As far as exercising in the cold goes, I have had a few memorable experiences, the last of which was getting hypothermic skiing on the back side of the mountain when the temps were in the single digits. I realized I needed to keep moving or I'd freeze to death and made it down just fine. Was glad to have my friend Amanda with me. I went out again skiing the next day.

It's just damp here so think I will eat a bit of the rest of the Christmas Pudding. It keeps beautifully and will be wonderful with my Afternoon Tea. - Claire

Claire, that's awful about stolen gear. Will yr car ins cover the loss?

Nice visit with mom. We had planned lunch & bookstore but postponed due to snow. So I brought a sub san and some dill pickle potato chips to split. Yummy with chocolate milk!

Hit the gym on the way home @60 mins - 30 TM, 20 weights, 10 yoga stretch. I'm ignoring the sidewalk until 2moro morning as we may get another couple inches of snow.

Falconer, the only way I can abide the TM is with music. Also, I walk, very fast sometimes, but don't run on it. My balance isn't good enough and I'm afraid I'd wind up ass over teakettle.

Did an hour on the treadmill today 3.5 miles. As far as calories I am going to try and stick to 1200 a day. I need to se progress on a weekly basis to make my goal. After that I am going to about 1700 to maintain.

I remember, Badger, seeing some of your treadmill playlists on earlier posts! "Ass over teakettle" is a new one for me though and had me laughing aloud. Thanks for the morning chuckle.

We are getting your midwestern snow & icy mix today so it's the treadmill for me this morning before I consume my weight in Stromboli at this evening's Super Bowl party.

Well that was not very smart. After two days of no exercise, my sore shoulder was finally starting to get better. But the city finally put ski tracks on the lake, and I could not resist. Went out for an hour of relaxed-pace skiing, and tried to use my left arm only for balance. But my mind kept wandering, and I kept forgetting to favor my left side. So ouch ouch ouch now. But oh it was so heavenly to ski again! First time this winter (I don’t have arm strength to use the forest tracks, which have been open for over a month; I only ski on the lake ice). I know nothing’s broken, and yes I have adequate pain meds, but I hate this reminder that my body isn’t as young/strong as I want it to be!

My son has been gently nudging me since Christmas to go back to the gym for strength training. His wife is doing her fellowship at NIH, and her research field is breast cancer. Here is my son's nudge message from yesterday. "Heard this fun fact the other day: 2-3 hours per week of moderate exercise reduces risk of breast cancer recurrence and all-cause mortality by 40-67%. Just thought you'd find it interesting!"

I love that boy! And I'm going to the gym this week

    Smile

    Happy super bowl sunday everyone.

Claire yes I got hot and sweaty snowshoeing even the first time, when it was -19C. Good that it is more strenuous than walking. I need that!

Badger so glad to hear that your mom is settling in with AL and doing better so you don’t have to worry so much! Stress is not good for anybody.

((tessu)) I too love the snow and understand the pull. It's good at any age to not resist the urge to move!

Saw dog & human tracks in the snow so cleared the sidewalk last night, and glad I did. Got to go out in the snow :-) and it made for lighter work this morning clearing the overnight accumulation. DH tackled the driveway & snowplow guano.

Home health nurse just called. Can do mom's PT/OT eval this aft so headed up in a while. Happy for a weekend appt. I've taken a lot of time off work recently, and while we have a generous leave policy, it's not unlimited and I need to save time in Oct for vacay. !! Will pack gymbag and stop on way home if time allows.

Tessu hope your shoulder is ok!

Falconer have a good run! When is your 5k?

Ran 4 miles this morning, walked a quick warm up and cool down. And of course did my core strength work.

Has anyone here tried acupuncture? I have an appt tomorrow. Was told by another bc survivor it helps her joint pain and stiffness.. I have been more stiff since finishing chemo. Noticed it about 2 wks post final chemo treatment. It's better but still have it...not sure if I had it prior to dx and just thinking about it more now. Started Tamoxifen a month ago and wondering if it could be from that as well? Also hoping it will help these God awful hot flashes!

Off to cook for the Super Bowl! And prepare myself for the This Is Us Episode that will follow!

Another busy workweek and just trying to fit something in. I managed one walk, upper body weights, and one stair climbing session. Yesterday I walked at the outlet mall which is huge and one long hallway. Today I see shovel and sculpt in my future.

Runnermum exercising is what helped my post chemo issues so I think since you are active, it will dissipate. I am a believer in ginger too.

Falconer if you did not see Bloodline, I thourougly enjoyed that Netflix series. Tessu, I think we have a lot in common-I have riskedhurting myself in order to enjoy an activity. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesnt. Pat, its great to have your son coaching! You know he loves you.

Ok off to shovel. Its still snowing but need to pick up RX and any last requests for Superbowl food.

Pat, what a good son, who loves you so.

Runnermum, it's the Earth Day 5k! April 22, I think.

I did run a 5k outside today; there is a nice loop that has two good hills. Just starting to snow now...

18 degrees and no sun at almost noon - need to make myself bundle up and go for a walk....so far really haven't accomplished much except the grocery store. Its the first Sunday in a long time that I don't have anything to do or anywhere to be...weird....

Not sure if I'm going to watch the Super Bowl - DH an I often watch for 1/2 time and the commercials but he just said he'd rather watch a good movie together - sounds good to me - making chicken wings and potato knishes - good finger food no matter what we watch.

Ladies, here is something to think about. Some of us on this thread take an annual Road Trip. This fall we went to Daytona Beach for Trip #7 and next fall we are planning a trip to Nashville. Anyone who would like to come is invited. The only requirements are that you have to like to laugh, eat, move, and are flexible about sleeping arrangements, sharing bathrooms, schedules etc. etc. (we have so much room & whoever comes has to fit into it!).

Here's the information. You don't have to decide right now, but if you would like to be on our group email list to stay up with our plans, PM me with your 'real' name and email address. I imagine we would want a 'who's coming for sure' list out by sometime this summer in case we want to get tickets to shows etc. ahead of time.

    What? 2018 BCO Road Trip

    When? October 9-15

Details: October 9-12, we'll spend 4 nights in Nashville (at the Wyndham, thanks to patoo who is sharing her timeshare with us), and October 13-14, we'll 2 nights in the mountains (thanks to hbcheryl, we will be at her friend's Bed and Breakfast in Mount Eagle, 90 miles from Nashville). Home again on the 15th.

Why? Because it is really, really fun to meet up in person; and there's lots of interesting things to see and do in the Nashville area!

Zumba this morning with one of my fave instructors. She uses such good music. And today there was an instructor in training there too who led us in a couple routines and that's always fun to have a new face.

Along with being very cold, North Dakota is beautiful in it's own way. Here is a picture taken at the Frontier Village (tourist stop) on the outskirts of my town (before the latest snow). Yes, that is a giant buffalo. We are the home of the National Buffalo Museum and have a herd who summer in fields below the museum and village.

Pat, I am going to put that info from your son on the wall to remind me that I need to exercise even when I do not feel like it! My friend had a note inside her fridge so that when sh opened the fridge she saw "Eat Well!" before she dove into the goodies!

I have been aerobic shopping. I hate shopping and DD got 3 papers accepted for conferences. Pretty good for an undergrad! She has a hard time getting around, so I told her I would get some suits, jackets etc and then she can try them on. I had the darnedest time trying to find a white blouse and black shoes. All the stores have limited in store offerings and the first presentation is in less than 10 days. I put on 8K steps in 4 hours at the big mall! Back to the real exercise after work routine for me tomorrow!

I wish I could join you all in Nashville, but i will be working! Bummer. Maybe another time!

Claire, sorry for the stolen gear. Badger, your mom is indeed a lucky one. Vargadoll, thanks for the Zumba links.

Thanks so much for the congrats on our 20 years this Wednesday. Longest that I've ever been married, lol. Anyway Pink Pilates this morning with one lovely member offering me this link: http://www.elle.com/beauty/health-fitness/how-to/a27390/how-to-work-out-without-getting-out-of-bed/ as a national BC charity here offers it on their website for women to do after surgery. Snowed here this am and now clear skies and snow all melted. Have a good start to the week everyone.

My pool is closed for the entire week, so I went on treadmill today. My right leg and hip joint seem weak, probably from AI drugs. It doesn't hurt so I hope doing a week of treadmill will be ok.

My weight is decreasing yeah! Another 10 pounds would be great.

Yay! Hit 10,000 plus steps today. I usually get at least 5,000 just from walking around at work and then I walked with a friend after school to get the rest. I think about 2 miles. Reading all the elderly parent stories makes me sad, yet touched. My own mother is 81 and I am getting glimpses of future heartache. Plus I reallly need to pin her down on a will, her wishes, etc. Just really hard to start the conversation.

Hi Peregrine lady, nice to see you again! I see you're taking liquid Tam. What's the difference, aside from not swallowing a pill?

Meow, great job with your goals!

Only got fifteen minutes of a run on the treadmill yesterday before supper.
