Just found out I start chemo next week so not sure what I'll be able to do. I'm hoping to at least keep walking.

Moth, hopefully they will give you meds to help you through. Ice maybe for hands, feet and mouth sores.

I have heard drinking tons of water can help with the toxic effects. One good thing about triple negative is after you get through the first 5 years NED your odds are really good you'll never see it again.

Just popping in here for a sec :) Walked with snow shoes through the woods this time for an hour and a half. Lovely despite the cloudy sky, and a bit rougher than on the flat lake. A bit surprised my phone step app registered less than 4000 steps - but I still count it as a good workout because I got winded on the uphills and was completely woofed out when we got back! Tomorrow we head 340km further north to Saariselkä in ”real Lapland”; where we are now is only at the southern edge.

Wishing everybody an active and happy weekend!

A friend of my son posted something the other day that I thought was a great idea. At New Years, she made herself a handwritten chart, for things she wanted to do in the new year, and titled it habits habits habits. On the left were things like 8 hours sleep, in bed by ten, exercise, steps, read, meditate, etc. Then she had boxes to the right of each category for each day of the month (she doubled up the month days so they would fit on an 8x11 notebook sheet). Then she color coded things, for example >8 hours sleep was green, 7-8 yellow, 6-7 orange, <6 red. After one month she looks at her chart and can see where she needs to work on things (only 2 nights getting to bed by 10 for January). I thought this is a wonderful idea, and I'm going to try it. You can put exercise, diet, and mind goals on it. Of course, in my over compensating way, I'm thinking a spreadsheet, but then realized a piece of paper and some colored pencils will probably get me there a lot faster! And I don't have to start on the 1st of the month, I can start any day I want to! I just need to do it!

Been to the gym a couple of times this week, need to work classical stretch back into my schedule as it keeps me limber and balanced. Busy day today, 1 yr old birthday party this afternoon, and then concert tonight Petes Posse, a traditional music group from Vermont, with Pete Sutherland previously of Metamora fame.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Pat, that's a great idea!

Snow came through mid-week. Thurs morning, started the coffee then did 30 mins Shovel & Sculpt. Came in to a warm house and fresh coffee. Just got the sidewalk and left the driveway for DH. We got maybe 5 inches so good I got out before the plow came through and left 4 feet of hard-packed snow at the end of the driveway. Nice neighbor with a snowblower came over to help - yay! Would've taken him a long time with a shovel.

More snow Fri so did the same boogie, got to work and put in a few hours then headed to mom's for LTC ins eval. Nurse came right on time at 11. We chatted a while, I provided coffee, medical records & info. Mom slept through the whole interview. Could not get her to wake up. Nurse left, mom woke up. Coincidence? Hmmm. Hung out a while then came home to finish the last 100 pp of Code Girls (good book) which was due today.

Sat did errands early then headed up to mom's for usual noon visit. Watched the Olympics for a while in the pub then headed home. Stopped for beef soup bones which I roasted and are now simmering for stock. I have DH's Jan end-of-month bookwork to do plus our tax organizer but don't feel like doing anything tonight!

Pat that is a great idea. Badger quite a coincidence that your Mom slept through her evaluation, hmmmmm. tessu looking forward to your photos from up north.

Body Combat for me this morning. I somehow pulled my sciatic nerve earlier this week, the pain in my butt is almost gone but goodness the nagging pain behind my knee is driving me absolutely insane, if I did any more stretching you'd have to call me Gumby!!!

    Gumby's school of yoga. Lol!

Have to pre-lose pounds for a trip to Paris this week to meet up with my sibs. I just have to keep walking until the kilos are killed. DD and DH are on separate skiing trips.

Workouts with the bosu and dumbells yesterday. Tango tonight unless I'm too tired from Zumba.

Like Badger, shovel and sculpt has been my main exercise this week. We've had snow every other day I think all week. This morning we have more, so my exercise plan is in place! Yesterday we only had an inch so I didn't shovel but instead went for a walk at the lake. Tessu, I wished I had snowshoes to try, and walking in the snow is definitely a harder workout than our apps or fitbits understand. I walked 41 minutes and was so tired I slept in a full hour.

Trmtab, one to two minutes of running a day helps prevent bone loss. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/07/170718084535.htmI I hate running and it hurts my hip but I can do one or two minutes during a walk. At my two year bone scan, my hip had improved, but I still had a slight loss in the spine. Then I went home and read that the spine has different kinds of bone tissue that don't respond as well to exercise. Anyway I was fairly pleased with that result, so keep exercising. BTW, another study has shown that calcium supplements are not preventing bone loss in bc survivors. Some people say we need vitamin K with it.

Welcome indiahood. You sound like me, in that I need something more active than yoga. Last weekend I turned on some Zumba youtube videos and danced. Remember that you body is taking a beating duringn chemo, so do what you can. Moth, I'm going to check out Marlon and Alejandro

Pat there is something called "bullet journaling" which I am working on adopting. Google it and you'll get all kinds of idea. I have been tracking my food and weight in a journal for years. Seeing some of the bullet journals, I decided to add more to it, and make it more "fun" and colorful. In the past I've used various food apps, and I've used Excel, but then I keep coming back to the paper journal. I do still like to track my exercise in Argus, so I will probably keep that up because then I can see the time. steps and miles.

Hi All, yesterday I did Early Bird Yoga and 30 minutes on the Dreadmill. Not sure what's up for today. Every week I take a notebook page and make two columns. One column is for aerobic exercise, the other is for toning. My goal is to get 4 hours of each during the week. I block off the hours in 15 minute increments and check them off as I get them. The 30 minutes of the treadmill would check off two aerobic boxes, the hour of yoga would check off two or three toning boxes (depending on how strenuous it was). I go Monday to Sunday so I have time to make up on the weekend if I am too busy during the week. I like 'gimmicks', so it works well for me.

hi all, we had more snow overnight. DH leaves early on Sun so this time he got the sidewalk and most of the driveway then headed out for work. I did the snowplow leavings at the end of the driveway once they came through. How can 2 inches of snow turn into 2 feet of "smeg" (as DH calls it eew). I call it guano but it's the same concept. 30 mins hard work @Shovel & Sculpt. Must do bookwork today and need to hit the gym, haven't been in too long.

Two hobbies, I had not heard of bullet journaling. In the process of reading up on it, I found what I was describing, google habit tracking, it is kind of like a subset of bullet journaling. Ruth, your visual for exercise every week is very similar. I'm going to try to make a habit tracker up for me today, and see how I do. Some things I do are not daily things (like strength training), so I think I will leave those off the chart, and just include things I want to try to do every day (steps, active minutes, etc.) along with personal enrichment things and diet things. Gotta go find my colored pencils!

Some classical stretch yesterday, and heading to the gym today. Rainy day here, but better than snow!

Twohobbies your bone health link is interesting. My osteopenia is in my hips not spine, so maybe I can fix it a bit? Because of degenerative disease in my neck and back, I had to give up jogging over a decade ago, and have gotten shooting pains whenever I’ve tried off/on over the years. But one to two minutes? That makes me want to try it again.

Pat01 yes go try out Bullet Journals! I just started about a month ago as a memory aid, but added a color system to show when I’ve exercised, done something cultural, done crafts, tried something new to me, etc — I love it! A good place to start is simply www.bulletjournal.com, also YouTube videos by Jessica from @howtoadhd

Still on winter vacation, now in ”real Lapland”, the farthest north I’ve ever been :) Too windy for the skiing we planned, so we took a dogsled safari instead; afterwards I took a brisk walk for almost an hour for exercise. Going to pull out my resistence band in a minute to do some muscle work before dinner.

    Wishing everybody a happy day!

You ladies amaze me! I am beginning think your day has more hours than mine! We had one pretty day so I took advantage of it! I took my grandson outside to play. I got it lots of walking in the sunshine a welcome change. I got one of those fit boards. We will see if it was a waste if money. I get a few minutes each day on it. The highlight of my Sunday so far is showering without an audience or interruption! I could get use to that! My girl slept from 9:30 last night until 8:30 this morning. How nice it was not to be awakened at 1 am! Fingers crossed that we are back on track.

Here's a picture of the cutest fireman you will ever see!

Vargadoll that is the cutest firemen!

There you go, Pat. There are lots of good ideas for setting them up. What I have added besides my exercise, water, and food is just general things that make life better- fun things I want to do, my favorite sayings, goals, and even a task reminder (call the vet, schedule dentist appointment, pick up the cleaning). I bought a pretty notebook and a nice pen to go with it, and I already had colored pencils and highlighters. It's fun.. I think you'll enjoy it.

Tessu, I have always wanted to dogsled. That is one of those things that is on my bucket list.

My husband ended up doing the driveway but I dug out the deck for our dog with the shovel. Then we went to eat Mexican food for lunch. We had to pick up my son's glasses at the mall, so we walked 20 minutes after that. Then when I got home, feeling guilty about the Mexican food, I walked outside 15 more minutes.

Something to add to my journal- only one sinful meal out per week!.

Ok I said I was going to join you all to keep myself going but I've keep going but not posted. So here goes,

Last wednesday SNOWBOARDING 3 hours (then 3 hours on the couch recovering). It was worth it, an overnight snowfall of 50cm/20 inches!

    Thursday dog walk 1 hour

Friday dog walk 1.5 hour (Friday night fever and ER as still on chemo)

Saturday, 1/2 hour dog walk, anemic

Sunday, today, 1 hour dog walk getting better after eating red meat. ;-)

Tomorrow, off for some RnR in Palm Springs. I'll play tennis everyday, hope I have the energy to play like I like to play, wish me luck.

    Cheers,

    Laurie indahood

    Welcome, Indahood!

Yes, that is one cute fireboy!! So sweet, Varga!

Tessu, I've always wanted to visit there. It looks so beautiful! And there's a Finnish yoga teacher who does a retreat up in those parts. I'll have to look up the spelling of his name. I took a class here in the US ten years ago with him and it was great.

I had a long weekend of wonderful professional development- a workshop on Restorative Justices. What a beautiful thing! They've proven to reduce detention and suspension in schools by adopting that model. The retreat was at a Quaker Retreat Center- my two older kids have gone to the youth programs for years- so now it was my turn. During my free time yesterday I did yoga for an hour and took a long walk- beautiful rolling countryside. This morning I taught a mixed level yoga class, so not much yoga for me while teaching.

    Have a great week everyone!!

Laurie, remember you can slow down a little if you need to Heart

    Falconer, your retreat sounds wonderful!

The fun thing I did for myself today was to go shopping. One the stylists at salon I go to and her mother opened a little boutique (primarily because they love to buy clothes and jewelry themselves), their grand opening was this weekend. I bought a couple pair of patterned yoga/exercise leggings (like patoo & I bought in Florida) and a couple of darling, very age inappropriate outfits! I will have to sub forever just so I will have a place to wear the cute clothes I love to buy!!! My house was so dusty & dirty that I was forced into a cleaning mode when I got home. After that, I did a couple miles on the treadmill just for the steps.

I am enjoying the Olympics. Amazing stories, amazing athletes from all countries!

Somehow I managed to tweak my back this weekend...not what I wanted to do just before my next knee replacement surgery! (right knee this time) So, I mostly rested it; it does feel a lot better this evening.

Since the big surgery day is Tuesday, I am thinking I will swim tomorrow, even if back not 100%: as then I will have to be 'dry' until scar fully heals. And then: lots more walking in my future! Yay!

Please think positive thoughts for me that right knee replacement will go as well as left did. Thanks, all!

I'm exercising by watching the onympics. We have several home town Olympians participating, and one the goes to school.with my son, so I have been keeping my fingers crossed for them.

Ruth, I like your idea of crossing off when you get to 4 hours. I used to aim for 3.5 per week, and I'm still not there yet. I've gotta get serious about at least 1/2 hour per day.

    Thanks for inspiring me everyone!

Yesterday we got a few inches of snow and was around 10 degrees. Today most of the snow melted off the streets and was in the high 30s. Tomorrow back to the 20s. Gotta love winter in Denver. This was a good walking week-end. Hit 15K+ both days.

Back to the grind tomorrow. Currently I'm covering a traditional high school and a charter middle/high - both for maternity leaves and both 2 days/week. Most of my career has been in elementary, but last year and this years, I've been doing more secondary and I really enjoy it. I'll be a the traditional high school through winter break an the other school through April. I also two testing as needed, so its never boring!!!

2Fun, what sports are they in? Tell us how they do. Very neat!

Octo, thinking of you. Those last days before a surgery are the worst, I think. You just want to get it over with and start the healing/rehab process. You will do well because you have the right mental attitude! Heart

Karen, when I was in college, I worked at a camp for special needs kids. Everybody wanted to work with the little kids, so another first year counselor and I were assigned to the older girls cabin. I fell in love with that age group and never looked back.

I am signing off so that I can run around in a circle until I get 100 more steps for the day.......

    Hi back at you, Falconer

Hey there Ruthbru, slowed down today. Still a bit anemic so that seems to keep me in check. Went walking with my 2 dogs and a friend and found it taxing so I left my active dog out and came back with Rosie, my Terrier. So my posted exercise today is 1/2 hour walk.

I'm excited to play tennis but I'm with a group of 4 other girls so there will be much opportunity to opt out too.

Indahood, if you can snowboard for 3 hours, tennis should not be a problem. Way to go! Not that I snowboard, but I did try learning it eons ago. Maybe it is time to try it again.

Octogirl, sending lots of positivity your way for a successful replacement. Cheryl, hope that nerve is no longer acting up.

    Yay, Karen, on 2 x 15K!

Twohobbies, good link. Tessu, maybe if you do a 20 second run first and slowly build up, your neck won't be in shock. Or ask your doctor or PT what you can do to prepare your neck.

I missed Zumba (they changed times on me) so ran on the treadmill and did strength training on the Swiss ball and machines.

Thanks for the bullet journal links. Yesterday was my first day with my chart, and only had one red square and a couple of yellows. Now to continue trying to get green squares. I do like the visual, and coloring in the boxes satisfies my inner picasso.

    Cute as a button fireman!

Octo, good luck on surgery tomorrow.

Did both gym and classical stretch yesterday.

Hi Everyone! I've been MIA bc I had a bad case of bronchitis. Went to the doctor several times - even had a chest xray and thankful there was no pneumonia. It takes up to 3 weeks to completely heal and I needed the full 3 weeks. Much better now. My chest still hurts from coughing so much but I know that with time it will heal. Dh said it was the sickest he has seen me since getting sick during chemo (in hospital 3 days, blood transfusions). So thankful I'm doing well now!

Needless to say, no exercise for 3 weeks. Today I walked in the house and it felt good to move. I'm taking it slow and easy bc I don't want to relapse. I know that with time my strength and endurance will return.

Dh and started binge watching the show "Homeland." We have watched many, many episodes which equals too much time sitting on my butt. But while I was sick I was thankful to have something entertaining to watch.

My cousin's daughter is in the Olympics on the Biathlon team. Her name is Emily Dreissigacker. Her sister Hannah was on the same team for the last Olympics. It's the only winter Olympic sport that no American (male or female) has ever received a metal. Be sure to cheer Emily and her teammates on! FYI: My cousin (his mother and my mother were twins) was in 1972 Olympics in rowing, his wife (and her sister) was in the the 1980 and 1984 Olympics in rowing. Somehow my side of the family didn't get the competitive gene! Happy
