Sprint class last night and hopefully the calories I burned made up for the Chinese food calories I consumed after class.

Driving to work this morning the thing that just made my heart shatter was driving past a school with its flag flying at half staff. I am beyond belief that assault rifles are just out on the shelf for purchase, there needs to be change and yes I understand the right to bare arms but an assault rifle is not an "arm" as written in the constitution its simply, plainly a killing machine and the NRA has such deep pockets, I certainly hope and pray change comes - so many school shootings this year alone when will it stop, I will check out Everytown Ruth, change has to come from somehow.

Hello, I'm on day 2 of my first chemo cycle and walked 1 km this morning. Yesterday was a total wash - felt awful and slept through the day. But 1 chemo is done & I'm feeling better today.

love the xcountry ski pics. We snowboarded for a few years but I think I'd like to switch to x country. I'm a total chicken snowboarder.

Many many many years ago I was a border guard on the Cdn side and was appalled at the number of guns we would find (& seize) when just doing cursory checks. It's a totally different culture. Big hugs to all those for whom this shooting hits close to home. I was at uni when the Ecole Polytechnique attack happened in Canada and it was certainly something that jolted us (esp women as it was definitely a gender attack). It changed a lot of the dialogue around weapons in Canada though I fear lately we're losing ground as lots of reactionary ideas are gaining traction.

anyway. happy exercising everyone - let's keep huffing & puffing.

Got to 4 classes this week, slow yin, power yoga, vinyasa flow and pilates...which was good given our V'day dinner.

I had the scallops, my husband halibut...and then we switched plates!

Happy weekend to all...prayers for the folks in Florida. TT

Love all the snow pictures and TrmTab, your food looks delicious!

Lilac: Congratulations on getting the corporate job! What a fun time you had in Venice.

Moth: Yea! One treatment down! Glad you feeling better today.

Ruth: Thank-you for telling us about Everytown.org. I am just sickened by what has happened.

Hi Everybody. Walked/ran at the park today. It's 82 degrees! Temperature is already falling and tomorrow it will be rainy and in the 40s.

Hello, this is my first post here. I finished chemo and rads after BMX and decided it was time to get back into shape! My husband and I joined the YMCA and I am most interested in doing cardio. I met with a personal trainer who showed me how all the equipment works and some stretching with bands. My PS would prefer I limit upper body weights as she doesn't want me building the pec muscle, I have TEs. Looking forward to seeing what others are doing. I tried a yoga class that was supposed to be for "all levels" and man it was hard. Reminded me how rough this last year has been on my body and of why I hate yoga! I am not ready for group classes quite yet.

    Welcome, OCDAmy...all exercise counts here!

Knee replacement number two (left knee this time) is in the books, and I am out of the hospital and comfortable at home. Actually doing really well: everything seems easier than the first time, perhaps just because I know what to expect? PT starts next week but in the meantime I am exercising at home: leg lifts, walking with the walker, etc. Can't wait to be able to get back to outdoor activities!!!

    Hugs to all;

    Octogirl

Welcome, Amy! Take it one step at a time! Glad you are doing so well after your surgery, Octo!! I hanging out with the puppies and watching a show called "Homes By the Sea" on Netflix. It is as cold as can be again.....I will go to Zumba this evening and then crash. Too much emotional stuff going on (in the world, and some friends/family are having really difficult things going on), I am really tired today.

Enjoying everyone's pics. It's fun to vicariously travel (and eat) with everyone!

I can't remember what I have and have not posted but after my walk yesterday I looked at my Argus app where I track my walking and I had 148 minutes for the week week - ugh, 2 minutes short of the minimum! But not too bad considering how busy we have been at work. We met our deadline with much stress, but hopefully there will not be another rush like that in the near future.

OCDAmy, welcome and know that there are a lot of yoga classes available for cancer survivors - and probably free. Try googling it and I'll bet you'll find one. I took one and she was very cognizant of our lack of abilities and how to alter for that.

Ruth, thank you for the everytown site. Seeing the kid's postings on twitter, the cell phone videos in the school - what are we adults going to do? My son was 2 1/2 when Columbine happened, and I wondered what world I had brought him into. I'm sad to report nothing has changed in his 21 years of life. I am hoping this is the "Harvey Weinstein" event - that this finally breaks through and creates a sea change. Although if Sandy Hook didn't do it, then I am not that hopeful.

hi all and welcome OCDAmy. Hope one day you grow to love yoga. Ruth hated it at first, too.

((octo)) glad knee replacement surgery went well and you're comfy at home!

moth, one down! Good to move and get the chemo out of your system.

Took off yesterday afternoon to take mom to follow-up doc apt (she is doing really well). Then had some time to burn before evening plans so hit the bargain book store and browsed a while. Picked up two items, an old MZB paperback and a CD of even older recordings by Django Reinhart and Stéphane Grappelli. Then met a friend for dinner and a show: Davina and The Vagabonds at the Stoughton Opera House. Fabulous! Need to get a few things done before noon then will hit the gym. I have today off from mom duties so will spend some time sweating. TTYL, meanwhile, enjoy some DATV.

Woohoo my skis work so much better! Up till now I have left their care to DH even though he’s not that interested in cross-country anymore. Today I went to the sport store and asked how to revive my old skis because this late in the sason I wasn’t interested in buying new ones. First sales guy wasn’t helpful and then disappeared, but (bad me) I pulled the C-card on the second (younger) sales guy, and he helped me pick out what I needed. Bought slide wax remover and new liquid slide wax, used them, and am very happy with the result :) Only ”problem” is I met so many chatty neighbors on the tracks that it was a lot of stop and go instead of one intense ski. Still got a pretty good workout :)

Today we walked the dogs 1.25 mi. Not far, but hilly.

Today I did 15 min on the cycle machine where you can lean back and not use your arms (I don't know what it's called) and then30 min on the the treadmill set at 3 with .5 incline for 1.5 miles. I think that's a good place to start and work up from there. There was a Zumba class this morning so I watched for a bit to see how hard it is and I think I can do it so will give that a try.

Yes, good wax is so important, Tessu! I always carry some in my bag. The worst is when wet snow sticks to the bottom of your skis and then....well, it's not much fun. Gorgeous picture of all the snow!!!

I love, love, love the music of Django Reinhart and Stéphane Grappelli, Badger. There is a terrific group based in the Seattle area called Pearl Django who are keeping this heritage going. Worth seeking out.

I am grounded until I get my car back from the body shop. Or at least I am on weekends. I am off for a run in the rain in a bit. I did see some very early daffodils and snow drops yesterday in my travels to and from the dentist, so spring really is on its way.

This could be a good weekend for Pass 1 through Form 1040 Scared

On the exercise front, I will say that you get a lot more exercise when forced to bus and hoof it! No need for an extra walk recently. - Claire

Tessu, so what time is that picture taken? I expect so far north there is barely much daylight.

Big puffy snowflakes as we speak. Went for a walk at the lake and ran twice to get in some HIIT and bone strengthening. Turns out, Its way harder running in heavy boots than running shoes - go figure! 45 active minutes added to my total today.

Saw this article today that strength training may be more important than cardio.http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/2017/11/01/strength-training-not-cardio-helps-prevent-cancer-study_a_23263859/

    Beautiful picture, Tessu.

    Welcome back, Kiki.

The cold I had a couple weeks ago, that never quite went away, has turned into a sinus infection. I slept until 9 am, dragged myself out to yoga, came home & slept the rest of the afternoon and am thinking of heading off to bed again at 8 pm. My steps for the day will be in the giant sloth range!!! Sad

We are expecting snow later tonight......maybe a couple inches, maybe more. Stay tuned!

90 mins @gym this afternoon. 45 TM, 30 weights/strength, 15 yoga stretch ahhh. And yes I did wear yoga pants but they're black bootcut pants, very modest, very comfy, and moisture-wicking. Here's for fun -

Why Yoga Pants Are Bad for Women

Honor Jones, New York Times, SPORTING, FEB. 17, 2018

It's a new year and I've got a new gym membership. I went the other morning. It was 8 degrees outside. And every woman in there was wearing skintight, Saran-wrap-thin yoga pants. Many were dressed in the latest fashion — leggings with patterns of translucent mesh cut out of them, like sporty doilies. "Finally," these women must have thought, "pants that properly ventilate my outer calves without letting a single molecule of air reach anywhere else below my belly button."

Don't get me wrong. I have yoga pants — three pairs. But for some reason none of them cover my ankles, and as I said, it was 8 degrees outside. So I wore sweatpants.

I got on the elliptical. A few women gave me funny looks. Maybe they felt sorry for me, or maybe they were concerned that my loose pants were going to get tangled in the machine's gears. Men didn't look at me at all.

At this moment of cultural crisis, when the injustices and indignities of female life have suddenly become news, an important question hit me: Whatever happened to sweatpants?

Remember sweatpants? Women used to wear them, not so long ago. You probably still have a pair, in velour or terry cloth, with the name of a college or sports team emblazoned down the leg.

No one looks good in sweatpants. But that's not the point. They're basically just towels with waistbands. They exist for two activities: lounging and exercising — two activities that you used to be able to do without looking like a model in a P90X infomercial. …

Deep-sea divers need skintight polymer pants; so do Olympic speedskaters. The rest of us could use some breathing room. So step into some slouchy pants with me. We don't have to look quite so good when we're just trying to look a little better.

OCDAmy, were you on the recumbent bicycle? I can'e get the hand of that one.

I got to the Y today. Did 60 minutes on the treadmill, and I am getting closer to my 4.0 mph pre-surgery pace. Then did 30 minutes of resistance band exercises. GOsh I am tired! Im off week, so I am going to prioritize exercise. ( I like that PRIORITIZE EXERCISE)

2Fun, no BodyCombat? badger, I like a bit of compression yet know how comfortable sweats are as I wear them all the time at home. Tessu, like the atmospheric photo. Hope you feel better Ruth. We had one quick snow day and nothing more this year. Reading Sunday papers and going google about my Hotpoint dryer that is showing f 10 code. I remember the days when a Kenmore from Sears would last a lifetime!

    Pilates this morning.

Lilac, so true. Our 7 year old Samsung refrigerator recently stopped working. They guy who came out to fix it couldn't find parts. They don't even make parts for a 7 year old refrigerator! The OK news is he was able to get it going, but I know next time it goes dead, I have to buy a new one.

Hope you feel better, Ruth. There's nothing worse than sinus headaches and sinus infections.

Badger that's hilarious. I sometimes feel I am the only one out exercising who isn't concerned about her fashion.

Watched a Netflix doc last night I enjoyed: In Defense of Food. I found it very motivating to keep on track with the healthy eating. I also enjoyed his "Cooked" series (Michael Pollan). Which led to my morning activity which was working on my habit tracking/bullet journaling this morning. Getting ready to make a nice organic chicken soup for this wintry day, and I'll see what the day looks like for exercise.

I was going to go to Zumba this morning (Day 4 of this chemo cycle) but we got a dump of snow, the roads are iffy, there's a spun out car near one of my highway exits and I decided that's too much stress. I will walk in the snow instead and dance around the living room instead :)

When we bought this 1960s house it came with a 1980s Maytag washer & dryer. We've done a couple minor repairs on them (mostly dryer drum maintenance) but they're going strong. I don't want to think about having to replace them. Speed Queen was going to be my choice if we had replace, as they were still making non electronic direct drive basic machines (they also supply workhorse laundromat machines) but I just heard that that's over now & the 2018 Speed Queens are not the same anymore :( whaaaaaaaa.

Gorgeous day in Denver today - currently 66 and tomorrow snow and 29. Heading out for a nice long walk as soon as I finish this post.

Today is one month since Mom passed away. Went to the grave site with DH. It is just surreal.

Hope to be back tonight. Karen

Welcome back Kiki. OCDamy yes it's the recumbent bik, I can't tell you how many hours I spent on one of those after my surgery, I missed the group fitness room so I used to sit on that and pedal away and watch the classes and that's when the gym I belonged to was introducing Body Combat I used to watch and think I could never do that but I sure prove don't myself wrong as over the years I've come to love that class.

Ruth I hope you are feeling better, thinking of all my BCO travel buddies today as now I can know exactly what is happening at the Dayton 500 and see you Ruth up in the winners podium. Also for those who went to San Diego can any of you remember if there was a fridge in the room at the Wyndham? I am going to be staying there in June as its the hotel that is associated with the big LM event that will be at the Convention Center but one of the main events is that we are going to be doing Body Combat on the flight deck of the Midway for me the most exciting part is the young man who I take Sprint and Grit with is going to be on stage so I am very excited for him but I want to be able to keep snacks and milk but I can't remember if we had fridges in our room.

Lilac I feel your pain, my fridge has been leaking and I was sure it was time to start looking for a new one but I fired up Google and they said it may just be an adjustment so I pulled it out gave it a bit of a bash around and hopefully, fingers crossed, I may have fixed it as almost 24 hours with no leak but like I say, fingers crossed.

Octo glad all went well and you are on the road to recovery.

    Tessu once again stunning photo.

Got up this morning and went to Body Pump class and yesterdaydid Body Combat.

Ruth I watched Homes by the Sea and really enjoyed it right now I'm binging on Bondi Rescue and reliving my girlhood days on that beach

I'm 99% sure there are fridges in the room, Cheryl.

I was thinking of us at Daytona too when I watched news clips of the race & that steep, steep curve as they go around.

I am still under the weather. I won't get my steps in and I don't even care! I took one of the nighttime cold medicines last night, and too add insult to injury, I semi-woke up and decided to go sit in the recliner. Without turning on the light, I wandered out into the living room, sat down (hard), missed the recliner, and bonked the back on my head on a bookcase. REALLY???!!! So now I have a very tender back of my head to go along with the very tender sinuses in the front. Good Grief! I felt like I was in an episode of I Love Lucy!

Frigid in Denver today...high teens and a dusting of snow....more snow to come tonight (it looks like is starting to accumulate) and even colder tomorrow. Walked with DH this afternoon...wonder if we'll walk after dinner. We need to snow, so I shouldn't complain, but I prefer the sun shining, especially when its so cold.
