    happy birthday ruth!

Sue, check out the femara thread. Also the thriving on AI thread. I've shared some of my attempts to deal with SE s

Falconer, you got it worse than we did. Our snow as done by mid afternoon on friday. I Drove to SUNY poly for a robotics tournament yesterday and it was blue sky the entire way there and back today. It was hard to believe that a year ago I went to a robotics tournament hours away just a week and a half post UMX! I need to remember all the things I did then when I do not feel strong!

I wish DH would do WW with me pat. We both have ALOT of weight to lose.

    Have a good week everyone!

I went to Reset Yoga this afternoon & then walked around the track for awhile. It's raining right now and forecast is still saying 'winter storm'. Since I am supposed to sub tomorrow, I am hoping it either doesn't materialize or is so bad by morning that they cancel school! The thought of driving through a storm on a layer of ice does not thrill me.......

Runners, I'm not sure if we will go to the game or not. I have jury duty on Thursday. If the trial doesn't get cancelled, I could be stuck at the courthouse all day. I don't suppose they would excuse me for a basketball game. Loopy If we can come, I will send you a PM and let you know.

Nice photos Clare and Happy Birthday! Ruth, Happy Birthday to you! Welcome this thread Towardshealth and 32B! Falconer, enjoying The Heart of Yoga - thank you for the recommendation - excellent book. badger, you deserve a day of rest. 32B, liked this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUWmpIpJ1nk clip of Miranda Esmonde-White discussing her bc recovery experience, especially the depression she experienced and how she overcame it.

Our snow has been all washed away from the rain over the weekend and now water pressure turned way down due to issues of burst pipes in Kent - ugh. DH flew back from working in US (KC,MO) for a week on Saturday and not feeling very well. He is experiencing is unpleasant side effects from his pace maker, swollen left hand, plus ankles & feet. He did have a cardio consult before his trip to US and investigations will be carried out soon to adjust pace maker & med. I'm here with a fan heater at my feet blowing - pulling together a lesson plan for Pink Pilates in a few hours, so I'd better get moving, plus my dribble shower, can't wait.

Have a good start to the week everyone!

    BodyBalance tonight.

Belated Happy Birthday, Claire and Ruth! Love all the pics, snow and sand galore.

32B, yes, it's very important to exercise the arms. In the beginning I took long walks in the morning for my lower body and arm exercises in the evening for my upper body.

2Fun, a robotics tournament sounds so futuristic. That must be something to watch.

Lilacblue, hope DH feels better soon and they find out what the problem is and fix it quickly. Sending hugs.

A little off topic here but am trying to put my thoughts together regarding weight loss and maintenance. This is a neverending goal for all of us and is actually not as simple as calories in, calories out. From my reading of the scientific literature, I've come to the conclusion that the best way to go about it is through a combination of fasting and time-restricted eating. Prolonged fasting though is very difficult for most people (including me!) and riskier as well. So I would pay attention instead to when I eat, which ideally should be when insulin is lowest and sensitivity to insulin highest, which is in the morning. I was once fasting for 17 hours daily but would start eating at noon. I lost weight at first but slowly started gaining. Changed strategies. I've been fasting daily for some years now for a 12 to 13 hour window at night. But have been gaining weight since Thanksgiving so I want to change strategies again to that 17 hour fast but have an eating window from 7 am to 2 pm, except if I go to an evening class where I'll allow myself another 2- 3 hours of eating...or maybe not. More on early time restricted feeding below, for the first time a study in humans:

    https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/01/170106113820.htm

This early timing of eating (since we are talking about humans now) makes sense not just for weight loss but for lifespan where insulin resistance is positively associated with breast cancer and all cause mortality.

Did a muddy walk along the lake with DD and DH yesterday. Doing weights today.

LilacBlue, yes that video is so inspirational! Great to see someone on the other side of it with almost full range of motion back.

Heidihill, I've been reading The Whole Foods diet by John Mackey et. al. They've been talking a bit about how healthy eating can reduce breast cancer risk. I didn't know insulin was related too. Interesting.

Walked 2.5 miles yesterday and kept up with my arm stretches. Did some leg stretches this morning for the first time since my surgery 3 weeks ago and woo am I tight! Can't forget about the lower body while I'm babying the upper!

The classical stretch routines I do are also Miranda Esmonde White - isn't she great? I feel so good when I do these 22 minute routines on a regular basis, I dvr them so I can do them whenever the mood strikes.

After the storm that will not leave, I woke up to an inch of snow this morning. And another storm predicted for Wednesday. Just crazy weather!

32B, I have full range of motion back and that was including the frozen shoulder from diep surgery. I think you are doing great for 3 weeks out, you are gonna get it all back and more. HeidiHill, you are onto it, good plan on limiting the eating window coupled with fasting. You know for DH, writing is on the wall it's his heart, not cancer rearing it's ugly head again, that will take him out - thanks for your hugs! Hang in there Pat.

Hey ladies! I am 3 months post DIEP and I really need to get my exercise in. Started chemo 2/23 (4xTC) and I want to do everything I can to be my best me-- for today and the many tomorrows to come. I used to run (in 2015 and 2016) and I definitely want to get back on the pavement. I'm hoping this group will help me stay motivated.

    Welcome, Faith!

Lilac, I hope they can get DH's medications figured out ASAP!

Well, Runner & I both had storm days and it is still snowing here. I cleaned the house this morning & took a nap this afternoon. I had planned to go to Zumba & Yoga tonight but everything is closed so I'll go down in the basement and do a DVD and/or the treadmill.

*back to report that I did a 45 minute toning DVD & 30 minutes on the treadmill.

crazy windy today so I wimped out and didn’t walk after work. I think the news this morning said 20 to 40 mph. Good thing no snow Currently wind are only 13mph and feels like 21 outside.

DD sent me pictures from the field trip she went with her students...Mt Hermon in northern Israel. On a sled with a student, with huskies and on a snowmobile. She said she misses the snow. Don’t know if I should hope for snow when where is here end of month! Nope, let the snow stay in the mountains. The distance doesn’t seem as far when she sends pictures.

    Stay warm and safe

    Enjoying everybody’s photos :):):)

Husband took me with him to a conference last week, so I had fun sightseeing and walked 15,000 - 19,000 steps a day for three days. But am now off the exercise wagon again, did nothing for two days, so will have to kick my own b*tt today. Back pain/sciatica acting up big time, also muscles hurt (apparently not from statins, because I quit them over a week ago). Nights are the worst; days are bearable with pain meds if there is something to distract me, but when I’m supposed to shut the book (or whatever) and ”just sleep”, I can’t. Cross fingers I can get out for even a walk around the block today - the sunshine looks so pretty, and the birds are singing (I know because I filled the feeder yesterday), and Nature heals my soul :)

Wow, Tessu, beautiful pictures! Have you ever tried taking an over the counter sleep aid for those nights? A friend of mine recommended Unisom and it works well for me.

It snowed all day & night yesterday so we've got lots of snow out there. I am subbing again today. School is starting 2 hours late, and I'm hoping that DH will take me because the roads aren't cleared off yet, and there is a layer of ice under the snow as well. Not fun for driving. I will go to Pound tonight.

    Tessu, what beautiful pictures!

I'm feeling a bit of tingling in my arm today, so gonna take it easy on that side just in case. Did some light stretching this morning. Snow is all gone here. Temperature in the mid 30's. I'll go for a mile walk later today.

Yikes, TT. I think you picked the wrong island for a vacation! Loopy

Runners, we are going to try to get over to the basketball game Thursday. Since we play the late game, we should be able to make it even if I am picked for a jury (unless they sequestor me or something). I will send you a PM.

    Welcome Faith!

    TT...hope the snow misses you!!

    Beautiful pictures Tessu!

Our treadmill is still broke and 7 inches of new, heavy, wet, snow on the ground and ice under that so I went to the indoor hockey arena and ran my 3 miles indoors. Snow day yesterday so unexpected day off.

Have 5 on the schedule for tomorrow but achilles is still sore so may to back off on that. A little frustrated with my foot!

Ruth I sent you a PM back!

Walked a brisk mile today, and have been most days. Know I need to do a better variety of exercise, but I only enjoy walking lately. This thread reminds me that it does us a world of good to keep moving, so thank you all.

Jane Brody, health writer for the NYTimes wrote this one:

Jane Brody's Personal Secrets to Lasting Weight Loss

    https://nyti.ms/2Fj0HOc

Anyway, the article struck a cord.

We have another snow day, so I'll be hitting the treadmill later after shoveling. Kiki, I wish I could go out for a walk. Great you're doing it. I'll be watching new episodes of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy " and dreaming of summer.

    Tessu,what beautiful pictures.

LB, hope your DH is feeling better. Glad you're enjoying ❤️ Of yoga.

The snow wasn't supposed to start her in Massachusetts until this afternoon, but it's already coming down, so I don't know how much exercise I'll be able to get in today. Did some good arm stretching just now, but I'll have to do another round later to at least keep the blood flowing.

According to the step counter on my phone that I just started using, I walked 2.4 miles yesterday. Not too shabby.

We are on the edge of the Nor'easter here, so lots of rain, snow flurries...general sogginess. So today I'm doing free weights and stretching on breaks from my deskwork.

I subbed today (I don't usually sub Wednesdays because it interferes with my Walking Women, but it was for a good friend whose elderly mother just passed away), and went to Zumba tonight. Lots of new songs, so I was pretty lost for much of the class!

ruthbru and snickersmom: Thank you. I’ve been taking melatonin regularly since chemo. I do have prescription sleeping pills, and prescription heavy duty pain meds, but take them rarely. I am so afraid of becoming tolerant to them (so they wouldn’t work anymore) or addicted, even though my Pain Clinic doc has reassured me for years that she won’t let that happen. Major sleep problem is that any pain pills I’ve tried don’t last all the way through the night. I’ll live :)

Tessu - Vienna! What a beautiful city, and such friendly people, we very much enjoyed our visit there.

DH and I joined weight watchers (well, he rejoined as he is/was a lifetime member), so now we are trying to be conscious of what goes in our mouths - it worked really well for him a couple of years ago, so I'm hoping it will work for both of us, and it's much easier together!

Stormy here yesterday, but the day before went on a lovely hike with some friends around a pond.

The litigants settled out of court, so no jury duty for me today. I went to Pound and Bone Builders and now have a list of errands to get to. Runnermum and I are doing something fun tonight. Our town's high school basketball teams play each other in the opening round of the State Tournament. Since we are both going to the game, we are going to meet up in real life. Very fun! Happy
