bareclaw - have I already asked where you are in Colorado. I'm in Denver

Karen, yes I live just northwest of Wash Park. From your posts I’m guessing you work at South HS some days? We should meet up for a walk around the park

Spent a drizzly but lovely day in NYC yesterday with DS2 and his friend. The boys took me to brunch, and we walked the highline, a surprisingly wonderful oasis from the hectic city. It is a greenway built on an old elevated railway track, so you are away from the traffic, and it is planted with flowers, trees and bushes. Just wonderful. Then, considering the weather, we stopped into a local bar and watched the Celtics beat the Cavs. Got calls from the other 2 kids, so it was a wonderful Mother's day.

Bare - not at South, but I've been covering at East this semester 2 days/week. I'm a float SP so I cover all ove the district...Yes, I'd love to meet and walk around the park. Crazy weather we've had today...sun, hail, rain and sun again!!

Had time for a short run- 2.25 miles- today.

Subbed today; I'm still rather sentimental about the end of the school year, even though I'm just a sub. I've gotten to know this year's 8th graders pretty well (when they were in 6th grade I did a stint with them for a teacher who had surgery & last year I did that long term gig with them), so will miss them.
I went to yoga tonight. It's the last week with that yoga teacher, who is retiring, so I am being sentimental about that too.

went for a walk around the neighborhood with hubby after dinner today. Not too long but just enough to feel like real exercise. It feels good to be doing evening walks and waving at the neighbors while it is still cool enough to enjoy it...

Egads, that is some serious lifting (not to mention all that cardio)!
I did these footwork drills for about half an hour, 40 seconds work, 10 seconds rest.

Wow, you gals are awesome! I'd probably trip and break my neck doing those footwork drills. As far as lifting weights, just WOW!

Heidi - the footwork vid looks like so much more fun than cardio machines (so boring), I'm going to give it a try tonight! What I liked is the low impact edge it has (as compared to running) along with definite strength gains to the legs because of the body weight lift on every 'bounce'. Looks like it's another way to beat the hell out of tamox leg cramps. Thanks for posting!
BucsGirl - when I started 3.5 years ago I couldn't manage one lousy body weight squat and had to tie a band around my knees to keep from toppling over lol! I started upper and lower lifting with cans of peas. The first session with 5 lb weights almost put me in traction. The surgery, LE risk and tamox has made this a slooooooow exercise journey. All I can say is that it CAN be done as long as it's very slow and steady. Can't recommend it enough, the biggest gain is to your self esteem...makes ya' feel badass. Especially when you're twice the age of everyone in the weight room, and one of the few females there. Grab yourself some cans of peas, they're not just for cooking...they feed your soul lol!
As for the footwork, I hear ya BucsGirl, I promise both you and Heidi to send a pic when I end up in a footwork tangled mess! LOL!

LOL!
I went to Zumba & Bone Builders today & will go back for Pound tonight.
Yes, it is a slower slog back to 'normal' than any of us would like (and it should be slow, as to not make things worse). I started just doing the arm movements with no weights at all before I grabbed the can of peas.....although I gravitated toward cream of mushroom soup myself.....which no doubt explains why I need to be on a perpetual diet.

Alrighty then... I'll need to pull out that old can of peas. Honestly, I have been such a klutz after my L5S1 surgery. Maybe this is what I need to strengthen all those muscles. The elliptical activity has helped a lot, but I need more. It has been a slow and very hard process trying to lose the weight I gained during treatment. I've only been on tamoxifen for a little over a year. I'm hungry all the time. Does the hunger ever stop? LOL!
Thanks for making me laugh!

You gals are ALL awesome! Great job to all!!
Heidi...Going to check out that footwork still AFTER the half this weekend!
EGADS...what a machine! So awesome! I do need to start adding more weight sessions. I tend to stick to body weight strengthening exercises and yoga. But we do have a weight bench in garage...maybe DH will help me!
I did my Monday night yoga class last night and ran 4 miles tonight and did 30 min of recovery yoga at home after. I feel crazy this week...it's a busy week. DH is out of town so doing the single parent gig and feeling crazy from tapering. It could be a very long week!

I have 3 events this week. Plus assorted other things I need to get done. So considering 3.5 miles of walking plus weights/crunches today a triumph. Still feeling Saturday's Metric Century. I have to get in some major riding over the next several weeks, so I am prepared for the Seattle-to-Portland.
By then, I should be svelte and fit. Or at least that's the plan.
Glorious here, so really enjoyed my time outside today. - Claire

Go, go, go Claire! I have no doubt you'll be fit enough. Did 62km during spring break, so still have a ways to go to 62 miles for a metric century, not to speak of a double century in miles. Egads, that picture looks like me when trying to do pushups.
On Tamox, my onc agreed yesterday to a dose reduction (5mg daily from 10) as my endometrium is thickening. Hopefully this will stop it.
Last night was time for salsa.

Heidi, sorry to hear about the change in your endometrial lining. I'm curious about how they found the thickening? Would you be able to share? Hope that the dosage adjustment helps.
At the breast surgeon as we speak, getting results of annual MRI.

Finally spring! Here's the Walking Women this morning.
I just got back from a graduation ceremony. I used to teach special education kids and some of my more involved kids take a wonderful transition program after high school (they are eligible until the age of 21). Three kids from my last class have completed the program so they had a lunch and little ceremony to which I was invited. So sweet, I love those kids!
I will probably go to Strength and then on to a Guided Relaxation class (which I really love because you just lay there in the dark, listen to music, and don't do anything ).

Ruth- I didn't know you taught special education! I worked for our county school for 13 years in the special education program. Did you ever have a student with Angelman syndrome?

Ruth, the graduation sounds great, and how great that WWW can finally walk with sunglasses and without heavy sweaters! :-)
I swam for an hour today, which I really needed to do to lower my stress. I am stressed right now because I am in the process of moving: trying to empty our house to sale as we downsize in retirement. So, today I started packing boxes of stuff I want to take with us when we move. It's a lot of physical work!

I was behind on my exercise for the week since we had four rainy days. I had the day off so I made up some minutes with a walk around the lake, so I guess I joined Ruths Wednesday Walkers remotely. Had an eye dr appointment and then did an hour and 15 minutes of mowing the tall grass, which was quite a chore. It was a beautiful but warm day. Sitting on the deck as we speak trying out my new contacts. i5 feels like they are a kot better but it could just be that leaves suddenly are popping out so everything looks so beautiful!
Falconer, hope all is well with the MRI. Heidi I had the endometrial thickening too. Treat one thing and cause another issue.
Egads, you make me laugh almost every post!

Good walking day - 4 15 - 20 minutes walk. I was downtown at our admin bldg helping with SW/SP interviews. A few very outstanding candidates. Then I had an interview for a position in one of the bldgs that I've been covering. Don't think I will take it, but stay where I'm at.
Varga - a few years ago, there was a student at one of my schools with Angelman Syndrome. My original training is in Developmental Disabilities. 40+ years working with sped. I've been in schools with self-contained classroom for students with severe cognitive disabilities as well as working with students with learning disabilities. I always have a place in my heart for the students with significant special needs as that is where I started my career.
After tomorrow only 2 more weeks!! I really have a case of end of the year itis!!!
Tomorrow I have my end of year evaluation with my supervisor. I have most of it down, but need to finish my self appraisal tomorrow morning.
Sweet dreams.

Varga, I had one student officially diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome & a couple others who, in retrospect, very possibly could have been. When I started out way back in 1975, they didn't have all the diagnostic tools/knowledge etc. that they do today.
I didn't do that good at Guided Meditation tonight because my stomach kept growling!!!

I've been reading along but not exercising....DD should be finishing her undergrad this week. (Triple major) Her roomate moved out without cleaning, and she's been trying to finish her research. I have been hauling books and such out of her apt 30 mi away. I've realized that her moving home is going to be more stressful for me than I thought. I like tidy, she doesnt . As soon as graduation is over on sunday it's back to the gym for me, for stress reduction! My body is so sore from lifting boxes!
School is in session until the end of june, and I have a total end of the year itis!

Falconer, I had some bleeding so they did a transvaginal ultrasound. 2fun, can't imagine how much work that must be to do a triple major.
Ruth, you guys look so cool!
Rainy day so I jogged 40 minutes from room to room, disposing of and putting things away and doing laundry.

No exercise yesterday except the 12,000 steps I got in during work, getting ready for and hosting my end of the school year party. 10 days of work/school left!! Today I will run 3 miles tonight and tomorrow will go pick up my race packet!
I signed up for a race series yesterday...commited to running 2 more half marathons this year.. In addition to the one on Sat I will run 1 in Sept and 1 in Oct. The Sept half is where our camper is and the Oct one is in town. There is a very cool jacket for those who finish all 3!
Ruth our dear friends have a son with CP, from a severe seizure he had when he was under a year old. Last year he "graduated" from high school. His parents threw him a huge grad party and there were so many there. It was awesome! This year he attends that same transition program in our school system. His family calls it college and he gets so excited when we talk to him about going to college. We have known him since he was about 5 yrs old. He is an amazing kid!

Big day yesterday but not workout-based. Went to Idaho Falls for initial consult with radiation oncologist to set up next steps with radiation. I will need 30 sessions (was hoping for 25) since tumor was large and nodes involved. But hey, one more chemo and moving on to next steps. Feeling the cumulative fatigue of the DD AC and 3 of 4 DD TPH, but still getting out. A 2-hour ride on Tuesday with a dear friend in a gorgeous place; I am learning to be ok with not being as strong as BBC (before breast cancer), but if I continue to work hard, that "beast" strength will return. Here's a photo of her- like riding in a postcard!
Thanks everyone for your input on heart rate and exercise intensity. I had my followup echo on Monday, and the LVEF was the same. Actually, the initial one was given as a range: 60-65%, and the second one as a single #: 65%, so I may have expanded my LVEF. Doubtful over AC and subsequent Herceptin, and they were from 2 different hospitals, but it's good confirmation that I am doing something right. Off to the gym as soon as I finish this update.
Octogirl I really appreciate the insight into your knee replacements. I have decided that I will decide by August 1 whether to get it replaced in October or next April. Not sure I can emotionally handle even another 6-8 weeks on the bench, but sure would be nice to ski hard at least part of this winter, not to mention work (as a ski guide and avalanche instructor).
I love that you ladies are counting your steps and acknowledging how much damn work it is to do house and yard work. Expands the often-narrow concept of being physically active and "working out."

Karen and Ruth- my girl has Angelman Syndrome! When she was diagnosed I think there were only about 1800 diagnosed cases in the US and Europe. Now you both know what a joy she is and how precious the laughter is. She is a total deletion walks with assistance but not too long distance can feed herself but not allowed to because she's a silent aspirator (for Mother' Day we ended up at urgent care...pneumonia again) she loves life and keeps me simple! Now you girks know whyI get so many steps...lol between her busy self and the grandkids I'm always moving.
Special Ed staff ROCK!!!

Hi All-
I have been lurking without posting, and want to let you know you all inspire me! In an effort to keep myself accountable I will be posting my exercise. Have been not doing too much since surgery in November and have put on 8 lbs. RO said it is probably not the tamoxifen but possibly due to lack of estrogen from oophorectomy. They never told me that would happen! Anyway, I am a runner battling knee and back issues which I am addressing, so trying short runs mixed with bicycling.
So today because it was raining I worked out inside - a 45 minute bosu ball workout with weights (love the bosu), and a 45 minute runners yoga followed by foam rolling and rumble rolling. I feel really good and am glad I did it. I am also logging my food/exercise into Myfitnesspal which syncs to my Garmin Connect to further keep myself accountable. Looking forward to dropping those 8 lbs before it turns int o 10 lbs.
Now that I have gone public with my intentions, I hope i have really good follow through!

Only 2 more weeks!!! I had my end of year evaluation and it went well. WE have 5 indicators to meet...I got one Distinguished and the others were Effective (and one was partly Distinguish, but can't get in between scores). We also have 2 growth objectives- one Effective and the other Distinguished. So quite proud of myself and pleased with my EOY evaluation. I interviewed for the other position yesterday, but I've decided to stay in my current position. I know its where I belong. Will tell the school tomorrow.
