Have a great staycation, TH! Stair routines are awesome. I should have done those instead of resting yesterday. There are stairs up and down the hill where I live, but I still have to get out.
I biked to a meeting this morning and will bike more to do errands now. My arm has recovered from tennis so may do some weights tonight.

Hello to all. Omg, Runnermum, you look so awesome! Huge congrats, love your F U attitude!
I am sorry, I have been laying low and not posting. I have catching up to do on all of your posts, but see everyone is busy and moving on. Good things are happening!
I've been kind of blue lately and not feeling chatty. Started tamoxifen, and that may be contributing to my mood, but there is a lot of "stuff" going on with many of the people in my life right now. A situation my sister is facing is so worrisome and seems insoluble. I won't go into it, but I'm sick about it.Anyway, back to workouts. I mentioned that my pool was throwing all of us lap swimmers out (so that they can make more money on renting to school teams, we think). That has happened, but I just joined a brand new gym with a pool. The pool is smaller, so feels a bit confining, but it's new and not at all bad. I may mosey over to some of the resistance machines eventually. They scare me a bit, but the nutritionist I saw last week is encouraging me to do some muscle building.
I swam not-quite-a-mile yesterday. A man I have been lap swimming with for decades stopped me mid lap to tell me his beloved daughter died last week. She had come down with a rare lung problem when she was still in high school. They fought it tooth and nail and she survived it for decades, but she finally lost her fight. I think she was only about 40 yrs old. It breaks my heart, he loved her so much.
I'm heading down to Charleston next week to see my mom, who turns 91 today! Meanwhile, gotta get my vegetable garden in this week. Hope you all have a lovely long Memorial Day weekend.

Hi, popping in to say that after my 3rd round of taxol last week I have been feeling a lot more like myself. Yesterday my fitbit recorded over 12k steps - a first in a very long time. HR is still wonky but finally the fatigue is lifting. I'm pulling out some free weights today to start a bit of a daily routine with those as well.
cheers everyone0 -
Sorry you've been feeling blue polli and glad you are feeling more like yourself moth.
I've been up in Reno, my new retirement community, getting my soon to be home condo repainted (interior). Painting is done and it looks beautiful so now we can move more stuff in! Yay! For exercise, I am swimming laps, and walking a lot. Lots of great trails around here....hubby is coming up for the Memorial Day weekend and we plan to go do some serious hiking (well as serious as it can be given that it has only been three months since my knee replacement) up at Tahoe this weekend. The forecast is a little iffy, but I won't let a little rain stop me!
Hope all have a good holiday weekend filled with time outdoors and movement!

Ruth ...I bet I know where you ladies made the stop for pie and I am jealous! 😊
2hobbies...this ND gal IS retiring in AZ, just for winter months and then come home to enjoy our beautiful summers here in ND/MN area. 😁
(Hugs) Poli
A crazy week with lots to do! So a good week to be taking it easy and letting my legs recover after half. Will get in a few runs this weekend at the lake. Tonight I will be volunteering at local food bank for a few hours so no run after work. 5 more days of work/ school...so ready for summer break!!

Hi All,
Just popping back in!!
Very busy with DD's sports and end-of-school-year activities!!! Basically behind in everything: dirty car, dirty house with my scary/gruesome nails in dire need of mani/pedi.
The only thing I'm keeping up with - are my workouts!!! But, I would rather be at the gym than almost anywhere else...(especially since I need to get away from my dirty house).
Egads - I LOVE the photo!!! Very nice!!!
HELLOS to everybody else (apologize - as I'm never good at keeping up with this thread - though you all are very inspiring!!)
Edited to ADD: Does anyone else here - get annoyed - when you come to a fitness class - on time. Only to have someone - come LATE and GET IN FRONT OF YOU and you can no longer see yourself in the mirror and/or it's harder to see the instructor. And, I'm forced to back up. Pisses me off - EVERY TIME.
This didn't happen much back when I was taking U-JAM. But, I find it happens with the harder classes - especially Turbo Kick. I honestly - don't mind - if someone comes late - but - DO NOT TAKE MY SPACE!!!!
Any suggestions??? This happened to me the other day and I was STEAMED!!!! (Maybe I should go to the "Steam Room for Anger" for this - LOL)

Runnermum, that's the way to do retirement! I'd love to be a snowbird.
Poli, hang in there. An interesting thing about going through breast cancer was that I found I could not handle every day stresses anymore. I used to be so strong and now any other problems, like your sister's, and I'm just a mess. Hang in there and I hope days get brighter soon.
I walked 31 minutes this morning at the lake and did my counter push-ups, planks and squats.

No exercise for me today. Today is the first day I'm going to skip running or walking. Extremely low energy level. I even left work early which is something I never do. Today I developed severe foot cramping and. joint pain. Maybe later I'll feel like doing some upper body exercises. Right now my body is just craving rest. So I will read others exercise posts and get inspired for another day.

jo6359, some days are just like that. Take care.

Wow! Just wow at all you amazing women!! Kicking cancer ass daily! Beautiful pictures and lovely quotes. It all makes such a difference in my daily life to read each post!
I have been busy with grandkids this week. Had the to little ones 2 days and got alot of moving and shaking whIle they are here!. Delivered Meals on Wheels 3 days. ( we do an apartment building with 3 floors lots of walking there ) I am keeping up with all my LE stretches and adding some squats and lunges. I'm anxious to get my "bye bye, flying squirrel or whatever you want to call them" arms back I shape. Before the LE I could use 15 pound weights for my arm work out. Now it's recommend to use 2lb and my arms are a little mushy. I am still lifting my girl (116 pound) but very cautious with the right side. I think my work week hussle total is about 119,876 steps and there's one day left in the challenge. This might me my biggest week yet.
To all those struggling with emotions..Lifting you up and sending peaceful thoughts.

Yesterday - 3 sets 15 reps: wide stance sumo squats 50 lbs, dumbbell squat 50 lbs, static lunges 50 lbs, Bulgarian lunge 50 lbs, leg press 235 lbs, cable cross over 25 lbs, dumbbell row 25 lbs, bicep. Barbell curls 30lbs, bent over row 30 lbs, side planks.
Last but not least, 1 hysterically funny attempt and failure at pistol squats, body weight. I Best be practicing this at home to prevent injury...to my self confidence! Pooped, so cardio was 30 mins dreadmill (thanks Ruth for ‘dreadmill’, love it!
Moth - 3rd taxol and 12k steps, pulling out weights?!? You’ve outdone us by a mile! You’re awesome!
Jo6359 - smart to listen to your body, I take my bad days off too. Rest is just as important...balance!
Poli - so sorry for your troubles, our thoughts are with you. Enjoy your long weekend, and a big happy bday to your mom!
Twohobbies- that’s a well used kitchen!
Octo - get some pics to post on your Tahoe hike please, and enjoy!
Dancing - you’re not alone. There’s a gal at my gym that was bench pressing as I approached the cable machine. She literally hollered at me ‘I’m using that!!!’ I replied ‘you’re not at the moment!!!’ Supersets aren’t something to do when the gym is crowded, yelling isn’t either. Don’t even get me going on the ones that don’t wipe off their pools of sweat from machines!! Grrrrrrrrr! Hear ya!
Varga - that’s some step number woot! Way to go!
Dang ladies, we got it goin’ on!

Egads!! - That's crazy!!! People can be SO weird!!! I'm glad you stood up to that woman!!! Sheesh!!!
And - don't get me going about pistol squats - I tried those the other day - just very sad and not happening!!! I have a longgg way to go before I get one of them!!! I just have a hard time getting into that position - HAHA!!! But - my goal is to be able to do them!!!
And, more vent on the group class situation, I think I need to fluff myself up somehow and be more aware of those people - before they squeeze in front and expect me to back up for *them*!! I can understand being late!! I've been late many times - but - I go to the BACK of the room. Would never dream of forcing my way in there in front of people!! Just steams me up and takes away from the wonderful workout high...

Dancing - you could diplomatically and firmly say ‘excuse me but you’re blocking my view’ or talk to the instructor and ask that she/he announce to late arrivals to move to the back. Otherwise, do this:
A disgruntled face paints a thousand words.
Pistol squats, I’m starting this at home, exactly@goal is to do them!, hope this helps, looks doable:

Egads!! - I LOVE your post!!! I'm going to get on this!!! I have been trying harder these days - to set boundaries!!! LOL!!!!
Message to ---> Pistol squats ---> It's Game On!!
BTW - anybody have advice on doing Tuck-Jumps?? Doing those in my "Insanity" class and want to figure out a way to get better at them - as I don't get too far off the ground for some reason!!! I find them to be harder than burpees!! And, I like doing burpees!!! (seriously do like them!!)

Dancing - Game on!! Tucks - it's a matter of strength, progression and form, here's a link (Hope it's not too beginner for you) don't miss the first vid:

Sending you a hug, Poli.
Jo, rest, it will make you stronger in the end.
Runner, were you thinking Tower City? (for others, it's a little town on the highway with a restaurant that serves great pie and other baked goods.)
Great memes, everyone. I find the ones who hog the front row are usually very tall and/or fling themselves around so much that you can't consistently see the instructor no matter where you stand. GRRRR!
I was back to my subbing job today, and a haircut after school and went to yoga. Tomorrow is the last day of school here. WhooHoo!
Great job, everyone!!!!!

Still busy with PT and packing for our move. I’m taking several plants with me so I’ve been digging them out for transplanting up at the cabin. (I planted all of them when I moved here so I don’t mind taking some of them - the new renters can plant their own stuff.). We also painted two walls of the cabin master bedroom this week. We’re getting new carpet installed next week, so it seemed like a good time to paint since we didn’t have to worry about drips on the old carpet. Getting a very overdue hair cut and color today!

Congrats on the move, Mary. To be their full-time I am sure will be delightful.
I'm wishing I was a teacher now as you all discuss when summer vacation starts!
Did a couple of hours of weeding and planting - the weeding always gets my squats in! Then I mowed the lawn front and back 1 hours 15 minutes. It was 89 and sticky but I wanted to get it done rather than do half today and half tomorrow, since it is set to be 90 tomorrow and 94 on Sunday. We didn't get much time to work up to that!

I subbed in PE today (the state baseball tournament is going on and the real teacher is a coach). Since it was the last day, and shortened classes, the other PE teacher & I combined classes and took the kids for a walk each period. Fun, but HOT as it is about 90 degrees (luckily I knew the plan ahead of time and was dressed appropriately in shorts, a tee shirt, tennis shoes and sun glasses). By the time I got home, my Fitbit had registered 18,000 steps!!!! I don't feel at all bad about skipping my exercise class and going to first a graduation party and from there to a 60th birthday party (and I won't feel bad about eating some of the goodies either). Tomorrow I will be in the flower planting business. No rest for the wicked!

Hoping to get lots of walking in this week-end in spite of the heat. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 90s. Plan on just hanging out this week-end....then the last week of school!!!
Enjoy the long week-end. Karen

I've been catching up on several pages of posts. Love reading all the interweaving threads and stories. You all are so inspiring!
So, Octogirl, do you find swimming helps with your knees? Did you swim while recovering from surgery? To me, swimming is very soothing for aches, pains and fatigue.
Wonderland, the bird nest pic is so sweet! I love your gecko painting, too.
Pat01, isn't the High Line wonderful? It's good to see cities reclaim some of those old rail lines for parks. By the time I moved to NYC, those rail lines were defunct. But I always hoped to see trains back up there on that track weaving between buildings over the crowded streets. That must have been some sight! The park is fantastic, though. If you make it back in the summer, look for the popsicle vendors.
Thank you all for the hugs and caring... and birthday wishes for my mom. I woke up at 4:30 and started fretting, now here I am writing at 6 am. TwoHobbies, you are so right. There is only so much you can deal with at once. We're healing and need to self protect more. I've stepped back from my volunteer work for that very reason.
I had a great swim yesterday, and feel my mojo coming back. The new pool is working out well. Several friends from the other pool are there now, so it's been fun to meet up with them again.
Have a good weekend!

poli, swimming is great for my knees! It feels good and is low impact. At first the breast stroke/frog kick combo (which I prefer to freestyle crawl because of an old shoulder injury that never quite healed right) felt strange because of the sideways movement, but now it feels fine. I wasn't able to get in water right away after surgery, however: because of the risk of infection I had to stay dry (no pools, no hot tubs, no ocean) until scars were completely healed, which took about about two months each time.
All good now though, and I swam laps yesterday. Today hubby and I are going for a hike.
Glad swimming is helping your mojo, and hope all have a fun and active weekend!

Hubby and I didn't make it to Tahoe today as it is still raining, though much more lightly than yesterday. Maybe tomorrow! In the meantime, we went for a hike at our local arboretum, which was beautiful, even in the rain. I am happy to say that I had NO knee pain at all, even on the steeper slopes and stairs. Here are a few pics from the top of the hill, looking southwest and then north....

Beautiful, Octo. Glad your knees are doing so well!
Holy Cow, did I work today! I was out early flower shopping and planted/planted/planted until 4:30, after which I picked up branches, pulled weeds etc. until 6:30 . After a very cold shower & a quick bite to eat, I did an hour long Denise Austin Pilates DVD. I should sleep well tonight!
