Octo, I'm sure you are onto something. There is nothing more wearing the chronic pain.

Holy Cow, Jo. You are amazing!

Wow Jo you are amazing. Octo the chronic pain is debilitating I'm so glad you are doing so well.

Tonight on FB one of my local gym friends posted a Go Fund Me for a young mother who has a 7 month old who was just diagnosed to BC, was breast feeding and thought it was a blocked milk duct but of course she won the BC lottery, this young mother has decided to go to Mexico for "alternate" treatment, I know a lot of good stuff happens in TIjuana but an awful lot of scams happen too, I just pray that she gets the treatment she needs.

    Did Sprint tonight.

    Love all the pics!

Jo, you are my hero! Just exhausting reading what you do.

Cheryl, let's hope for the placebo effect to kick in if nothing else. Or the healing power of the Tijuana sun. Glad you are recovered enough for Sprint.

    Salsa last night.

Flagging up interesting, detailed recent evidence based research on how diet, nutrition and physical activity affect breast cancer risk: https://wcrf.org/dietandcancer/breast-cancer

Lovely photos of Tahoe Octo. Jo you are a well trained runner and your body highly fit to take it. I'm a level 4 cancer rehab exercise specialist (adding so you know I'm not talking out my ass). I learned and recommend to all clients not to exercise the day of chemo and 24 hours after due to your immune system taking such a hit and to allow said immune system to return for this minimum amount of time, without bodily stress. I'm sure whatever you do will be right for you, just saying. Cheryl, as we know, for younger women, time is of the essence. To me this is a sad situation and indicative of living in a society without national healthcare.

Tai chi class earlier, Pilates at the spa at 3pm and tonight BodyBalance and Pilates.

lilacblue- I checked with my MO about running the day after chemo and he did not have a problem with it. I'm an occupational therapist, so, I. I do understand where you're coming from. I appreciate the feedback very much.. And if I'm not up to it then I just won't run. But the steroids tend to leave me Hyper for about 48 hours after chemo. So it's either running or cleaning my house. And if I have a choice between the two I'll choose running over house work any day.

Everybody is so amazing on this site. We all do what we have to do to get through this BC nightmare. I'm so impressed with the women who just keep pushing.

May is Huntington's Disease Awareness Month. One of our Walking Women (the lady in the white hat) lost her first husband and daughter to this horrible, horrible disease.....and now her son has been diagnosed. She brought us all tee shirts and asked that we walk in solidarity with her and the cause that means so much to her. We stopped by a local car dealership which sponsors a HUNTINGTON'S 5K WALK/RUN in the fall and had our picture taken by the convertible they will raffle off as part of the day's fundraising.

Oh Ruth, how cool is that photo -wow! Jo, I her ya on the steroids and if your MO is fine with it - yeah, do it. We have more who read this thread than post. To be honest, it's not the norm to run a 10k race the day after a 6th and final round of chemo. Is because people are unmotivated, unfit? No, it's because the majority are exhausted and burned out, physically and mentally by active treatment, and very few (such as yourself) are able to stick with it and keep up the pace of training. We do what get's us through this, that is true and wish the best outcome for you. Off to BB & Pilates...enjoy your evening everyone!

Nice work & nice pics ladies! Still can't get over how lovely those lilacs were, now a cool car, looks like fun Ruth! Jo - you're awesome, like I've said before, the only exercise I got during chemo was to raise a fork to my mouth while lounging on a couch! Dancing....love your emoji!!....have you actually used that move on any late arrivals yet? There is a certain member at my gym who is notorious for taking up multiple machines by hanging his drippy sweat towels over them and not wiping down after (the guy is an all round jerk and has apparently has caused many a ruckus with peeps. I can see why!) A can of whoop-ass is in order, so I might use your move lol.

Just wasn't feeling it today (no reason), dumbell sumo squats, dumbbell lunge, barbell suitcase deadlift,(all 50 lbs) leg press (240 lbs) hip ab (130 lbs)& hip add (190 lbs). 20 mins cardio arc trainer strength 10. Cut out early. No pistol squats, save them for another day. I hate when I'm not feeling it!

Lilacblue, thanks for that link. I posted a link on another thread that is along that line, but about a woman surviving long and well after a terrible prognosis: http://www.14news.com/story/38301478/woman-battles... . Really interesting.

I'm trying to get ready for my flight to see my mom. Running way late. I spent a good 2 hours today on the phone with the IRS - mostly on hold - trying to iron out a problem my tax preparer caused. No exercise for me today, but I had a wonderful swim yesterday.

    Have a good day, everyone!

Had my lumpectomy surgery on April 30 2018 and started rads today. My breast is still sore and I don't want to do heavy exercise. Do you have any suggestions for exercise that you can do at home? I have weights and want to lose 15 lbs.

egads-you use some serious weights. When, I used to participate in exercise classes I always stood in the back. I'm so uncoordinated I didn't want others to see.

Ruth- I love the pictures of your group.

Unfortunately I did receive some disappointing news this afternoon. I had my annual physical yesterday. My primary notified my oncologist that my WBC went from 3.8 to 1.3. In 11 days. My MO immediately started antibiotics for the next 9 days. I know several of the women on these threads had neutropenia and some were even hospitalized. How can I avoid that?

Hi all, Ginger, sorry for the loss of your MIL. Cheryl, how's the back? jo359, where are you in FL?

mysunshine has challenged me to see who can lose 10 lbs (I need to lose 15!) by the end of July so that should motivate me to keep moving. Rained all day here, again, so just did a DVD this morning and getting ready do another shortly although now the sky is blue outside but find the noseeums come out evenings so I'll just stay indoors.

    Night sculpted friends.

Nonomimi - Cardio is the starting point. Nothing crazy fast, walking, treadmill or elliptical. Classes (yoga, Zumba) are great too. If it's weights you want I'd YouTube search for beginners body weight workouts for survivors, and progress from there. Best to take it reaaaaallly slow (body weight, 1 to 2 lb lifts) so not to risk LE. Also consult with your MO before starting to see how far/fast you can take it.... 80% of your maintained weight is what you eat, although exercise is essential. Take a close look at your diet and then get moving...you'll get there!

Edited to add: Nonomimi - check out this vid....I used it when I started and liked it. Hope you do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4pY_qhSy2o

For those interested I've started a Paleo thread, (hunter gatherer) weight loss and exercise support. All cave people welcome :)

Jo - sorry about your results! Keep us posted!

Nonomimi, if you're looking for just cardio, here's one to try, a walking workout from Jane Fonda.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UabUNrjSE4

Poliwogli, I also tried anti-angiogenic foods some time back but am not sure it's the antiangiogenetic or the antiinflammatory nature of the foods that is beneficial. Exercise training is angiogenic so it's a bit confusing. Glad Harvard is studying it.

Jo, there is not much you can do to prevent neutropenia. Nor do they really know how exercise affects white blood counts. I've read lower counts after exercise may just be because cells are hiding out in places where they might be needed to fight an infection or pathogen since they usually come back to normal levels. I had chemo-induced febrile neutropenia several times (with high fever) and had to take antibiotics too.

Jogged barefoot at home and did a kettlebell workout.

Welcome Nonomimi, walking is very good. There are lots of good exercise DVDs to do at home. I like Denise Austin especially. Also you can check out utube. Just type in what kind of exercise you are looking for and it will appear. If you like to dance, Marshall Fitness is a blast. I did lots of lower body exercise when recovering from a lumpectomy and when I added upper body back in, first I just did the moves with no weights, and then went to soup cans, and very, very slowly added the very lightest weights and worked my way up slowly from there to where I wanted to be. As far as weight loss goes, if you have a fitbit, you can decide log how much weight you want to lose, how fast you want to loose it, and if you record your food, it will tell you what balance of food and movement you need to meet your goals. It is pretty cool.

Jo, I had Neulasta shots so didn't deal with low WBC. Can you get them retroactively? Or once things are back in the normal range, could you have one after your next chemo?

Patoo, my friend, who winters in Florida, so attracts the Noseeums, that she can hardly leave her house! They bite her even during the day. Horrible little buggers.

I am up early doing research on a little vacation that is (all of the sudden) almost here. We are going to Springfield, Illinois to see all the Abraham Lincoln sites. I've been there before, but DH and the friends we are going with have not....hence, I am the designated Tour Guide. In awhile, I will be off to Pound and Bone Builders. DS is out of town with work today so this afternoon I will pick up the puppies, take them for a walk and maybe have them 'help' me with some yard work. My Book Club meets tonight so I better sign off and get back to my research. Happy Thursday!!

    Thanks for the kind words.

I am in bed today with a fever, sore throat and body aches. Head was splitting yesterday and I took excedrin migraine medicine that a friend had. I didn’t read the ingredients before taking it. The NSAID component kicked up my hives and the caffeine kept me up all night as I never have caffeine. It did help the headache and bring down the fever though.

Karen- those are some cool pieces of family history you uncovered. I have recently started watching the Crown on Netflix and am so intrigued by the story of the royal family. Not sure how much of it is pure fiction.

Hoping to be back to exercising soon. Keep up all the great work

Nonomimi you've been given great advice, I started back just doing recumbent bike. Ginger hope you feel better, I personally think poor Princess Margaret got the shaft by the family, heaven forbid she fell in love with a Peter Townsend horror of horrors a divorced man and after the debarcle with her uncle and Wallis Simpson her romance was quashed supposedly by the Queen, she went on to marry and have children and then divorced and then she spent most of the rest her life partying it up in Mustique smoking and drinking. Ruth have you seen Denise Austins daughter is now with her doing her workouts, I saw them on the Silver Sneakers site, shes just as cute as her Mom. I know you'll put together a fantastic mini vacation, you're a great travel planner.

Last night did RPM and then some upper body work as I've noticed I'm getting flappy arms!!!! I went to the gym very late and found I had the place virtually to myself then you won't believe this one - my back is almost healed, then this morning I reached over to put my empty tea cup on the bedside table and my back went riiiiiippppppp ughhhh I am so mad at myself so I crawled out of bed took two Aleve got an ice pack on it and will start all over again!!!!!

Heidihill, thanks for posting that Jane Fonda video. I clicked on the link, thought wth, might as well do this, and now between that & my morning dog walk I'm already at almost 6K. She's funny & that was fast & pretty painless. I might try adding hand weights to it later. (& I can't wait for the return of Grace & Frankie.....)

    and feel better Ginger.

I did 45 minutes of lap swim today and after lunch I am going back to sorting and packing for my move.

I'm officially on summer vacation. Actually tomorrow is the last day for staff, but since I don't work Friday, today is my last day. Don't have to worry about work till August 13th. I have two SP interns next week and meeting one on Monday and the other before the end of the month. I like meeting my interns before the start of the school year.

Looking for me time and time to putter in the house. No shortage of things to do. Going for a walk shortly.

Karen, congrats on your last day. I will be in the same frame of mind on June 22!

My adult in age only children are messing up my exercise schedule. 3 nights this week I was ready to go to exercise class and they called and were stranded across town , sick etc. That is the only thing I hate about being a mom!

I also found out the YMCA on my side of town is closing for the summer to renovate (I do not think they are really renovating) because they said they are only going to be open in the mornings for retired adult services because of declining use of the facility. I wrote to them and told them that the reason the numbers are declining is because they have eliminated all of their afternoon and evening classes. Everyone ha moved to other clubs. Argh, I have been a member for 22 years, and it is frustrating that the 2 other locations are a 30 min drive away! I guess i need to come up with a plan now!

Happy vacation Karen.  2FUN I'm sorry about your gym, the Y near me has turned into a morning gym with packed classes and hardly anyone at night, last night when I was there using the bike it was like it was my own personal club, besides my gym membership I have Les Mills On Demand you can download a free account for 10 days, it's 12.99 a month I use it mostly for RPM and Sh'bam but it has most of their programs .  Octo thanks I have been babying the back all day, icing and putting Emugel on every 2 hours or so and it feels much better.

Tonight was Sprint followed by Haagen Das Rum Raisin ice cream, no wonder I never lose weight Loopy

Well, a sad day as I just left the last pilates class...my yoga/body balance/core/pilates studio as decided to drop pilates...ugh! The old owner is the pilates teacher and the new owner is the core teacher...and the new owner doesn't think core and pilates are styles that should be practiced together???

Oh well, I did go to 5 classes this week, Vinyasa, basic yoga, yin yoga, power yoga and then pilates.

After two weeks at the family beach cottage, it was good to get back into the swing of normal.

Below is a celebration lunch we had for mom...who turned 83 last week...followed by a pic of me and my mother on the back deck of the cottage.

Have a good weekend everyone. TT

So sweet! Happy Birthday, Mom of Trm!!! No place around here is offering pilates at the moment either. Boo Hoo! Denise Austin does have some good pilates DVDs so I hang out with her to do pilates every so often.

I did a quick ab workout this morning and have been making phone calls, running errands, and 'shop until you drop' activities ever since. Busy and productive day.I may or may not do something else of the 'formal exercise' mode once I put stuff away.

Poliwogli, that link of the woman who was cured via anti-angiogenic foods was interesting and like HeidiHill, I too am glad Harvard are looking into it. Welcome Nonomimi and good that you have some answers. Ginger, hope you feel a whole lot better today, you too Cheryl. TrmTab, nice photo of you with your mother and yum! This week I've been taking almost 4000mg of potassium (along with usual magnesium supplements) daily and my leg cramps/spasms have abated. Today was a 4 class day (2 BB, Pilates, tai chi) and this is when my right leg would kick off and cease up. Have a good start to the weekend everyone!

Hi ladies- I had my final TPH (final!!!!) on Wednesday so today is the bad day. Feeling achy and tired, although the Claritin does help. We just got back from a fabulous week on the way to a wedding in Flagstaff last Sunday, and rode mountain bikes along the way there and back again. Great riding outside Cedar City, Utah (in photo), and then we spent 3 nights on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, riding some of the AZT and the Rainbow Rim trail. Then a bit of riding outside Flag at the wedding, and a cool loop around Navajo Lake on the way home.

What a relief to think that, at the end of my 3 weeks of recovery, there will be NO chemo, only herceptin and perjeta. What a long strange trip its been...

A Ha!!! Phyllis posted about our challenge to see which one of us could loose 10 pounds by the end of July! She al posted that she was going to exercise. However, she did NOT post that she had to eat up the two half gallons of ice cream!!! We decided to do this as we met for breakfast and were eating French Toast this week!

    We will succeed!
